Was so excited to see Burma Bites as a quick takeout option. I love Burmese Food and Burma Superstar. But man, was I disappointed! And so was hubby. I ended up throwing away most of my food. We got the Burmese Fried Chicken Sando, Salt & Pepper Garlic Fries, Regular Fries, Popcorn Chicken, and Coconut Rice (always gotta have me some). Hubby said the chicken sandwich could have been good, but it was really soggy. Granted, I live about 20 minutes away, so by the time i got home, the slaw had soaked through the bun. Perhaps this takeout/delivery place should take into consideration travel time, and put the slaw on the side. Next to the fries--very limp. Even if there was no travel time, they weren't cooked very crisply. The Salt & Pepper fries were nothing like the description online. They were supposed to be: "French fries tossed with fried garlic and our Burmese chili crunch.." There may have been a little garlic, but not much. There was NO Burmese chili crunch (which was the whole reason I ordered these). There were a few slivers of jalapeno. Sooooo disappointing! The popcorn chicken was flavorless, soggy, and in large pieces (popcorn indicates to me small bitesize pieces). The soggy could probably have been rectified by venting the takeout container. Only redeeming item was the coconut rice which I love, and it was yummy. Perhaps we just got the wrong items. Perhaps we live too far away to be getting takeout from here. Perhaps it was just poorly executed. At any rate, I cannot recommend Burma Bites. Next time, I will go for the real thing. read more

Such a delicious Burmese restaurant in the East Bay! A part of the Burma Superstar family, this hits the spot with the perfect spice level. We started with the tea leaf salad (the dressing was more rich than other Burmese restaurants but I wish they had more in the salad other than lettuce and tomatoes) & platha with curry (just fantastic, I could swim in the curry). Next, we got the garlic noodles (an absolute must - the little pieces of red onions and cucumbers gave it a pop of freshness), the string beans (hot take - honestly better than PF Chang's and Din Tai Fung) and an amazing basil spicy chicken (the highlight! the shining star!). There's no doubt I will try it again, and I will be bringing friends! *Gave it 4 stars only because this was take out and not dine-in, so can't opine on the dining experience! read more

A takeout version of Burma Superstar, only a few blocks away from their dine-in restaurant on Telegraph. The ordering and pick-up process is easy and seamless. I love that there's another way to have more Burma Superstar in my life. Their menu is still pretty extensive for a delivery-only space, and features many of their beloved dishes! Their BB Chicken Sando was delicious and so flavorful. It features mayo with lemongrass, ginger, and turmeric, a papaya cucumber slaw, and ale battered fried chicken on a Dutch Crunch roll. Burma Superstar does an incredible job pulling together a wide range of flavors, and they nailed it with this sandwich. I also ordered their iconic Tea Leaf salad. Another dish with many different components and flavors that all sing together. I loved it. read more

The parent store in the city has been a favorite for years so we thought it would be great to try the smaller store in Oakland. The flavors are great and the variety ensures there is something for everyone. No seating at the moment due to COVID but just get it for takeout. Slightly bummed my to go order was missing the salad which I paid for but it there are bigger things to worry about in life. read more

Ordered twice from Burma Bites. Both times the food has been ah-mazing and absolutely on point. I dare to say, I like Burma Bites more than Burma Superstar! Burma Bites menu is slightly different than Burma Superstar. Garlic Noodles is amazeballs and can be ordered from both the OG and Bites. Spicy Mango Wings and the Balachaung Steak Fries are great munchie items. I think they are new because I don't remember seeing it on the Superstar menu. Same goes for the LAMB Samusas, which is now my favorite version of the Samusas! The AR chicken sandwich (dry meh garlicy sandwich) and fried popcorn chicken were forgettable. If I were planning date night, I would recommend ordering the Burmese Beef Curry w/ Coconut Rice and the Garlic Noodles with Pork Belly. For appetizer, the Lamb Samusas and Tea Leaf Salad. And if you are allergic to greens, the Balachaung Steak Fries are good. And of course, Door Dash and Caviar was super fast and friendly as always! I loved this place so much more than I loved my last experience at Superstar! I went with the hubs and we ordered our food. I got fried chicken bites, gluten free, they came with an OK sauce and there were plenty of them! Loved it! My husband got fries with a sauce, shell fish, but he liked it. I was going to get a cider, but it cost $10! No thanks! The only issue was the rain and since the foods they have are finger foods, then it's not a destination for a meal. But if I'm ever in a pinch and need a nice tasty snack, I'll order. Now, if they could add this efficiency, ease, and tastiness to their restaurant, that would be a win for me! read more

I've been a fan of Burma Superstar for years. Thought I'd give Burma Bites a go (delivery due to a broken ankle) for myself and neighbor. The mini samosa's were very tasty with a perfect level of spice (and such a great size!). The Roti w sauce was a bit rubbery, but I still can never resist ordering roti. Green Beans bowl with coconut rice was very tasty, the level the beans were cooked left a delightful crunch to the beans...but I would have loved a bit more spicy factor. Now for the chicken curry bowl w coconut rice. Disappointing. I ordered "spicy", it wasn't at all. At least I have the spices and saracha to fix the utter blandness of the chicken at home. It was very moist, but no actual curry sauce to be seen. Unfortunately I found the entire bowl very bland, and will not order again. I do love the perfect cooked 3 pieces of broccoli in the bowls. Nice and crunchy, cooked to my loved level of doneness. For the price at Burma Bites, I think I would be better off sticking w Burma Star where I've loved every dish I've ordered. read more

First time trying Burmese food and happy we chose this place to be our first. We were on a time crunch so we decided to eat at this quick Togo location. Food came out within 15 minutes and service was great! Spicy noodles were very similar to pad Thai, it's consists of rice noodles, eggs, bell peppers, onion, green onion, topped with cabbage and peanuts 3/5 stars. I think the winner for me was definitely the ginger and chili pork with coconut rice 5/5 stars. Will have to come back and try their sit down restaurant next door when we are back in Berkeley! read more

We ordered online on a weekday for pickup. I had never been here before but had seen some pictures of noodles from here on Instagram so I had to check it out when I was in Oakland since I'm not from here. We ordered both the garlic noodles and the spicy noodles, both with shrimp but I honestly couldn't tell which was which because they weren't labeled. That's a big issue in my book because one dish was kind of on the bland side and the other was full of flavor but we didn't find either to be spicy. So now next time I go I won't know what to order because I don't want to order the bland dish by mistake. But the flavorful dish was awesome and I would eat that again any day. I'm assuming that the dish labeled as "spicy noodle" is the flavorful one, but again, I'm not 100% sure. read more

First time trying this place. We had a DoorDash delivery of 4 entrees: 2 orders of sesame chicken (not good), curry chicken (just ok) and garlic noodles (meh... I have definitely had better). The entrees came with rice and 3 pieces of broccoli for about $74.00, expensive for what we got. The sesame chicken was definitely not "lightly battered"-- if that's what you're expecting. It was over battered, over fried AND CHEWY! I had to spit a piece out into a napkin because it was not breaking down after being chewed for a normal amount of time. :( The noodles were meh and my partner liked his curry. My mom ate here last week with her friend. These are two ladies in their eighties. This is a to-go place only and my mom asked for cups of water. The response was they would only sell them PLASTIC water bottles! My mom then looked at the bill and each little plastic water bottle (some kind of generic brand, it was NOT Fiji) was $4 each!!!! We've never even paid $4 at the airport! What a rip off and totally taking advantage. So, we will never go back and I highly suggest putting pressure on this place and any others who don't give free water, sell PLASTIC water bottles (still!!!), and charge a whopping $4 for a bottle the likely paid 10 cents for. read more

The food came very well packaged, with the sauces packed separately. The tea leaf salad was exactly like the one from Burma Superstar. For those who haven't had the salad before, it comes with a very thick salad dressing. The salad itself is a mix of greens, lots of nuts, and a lemon wedge. The spicy shrimp is served on a flavorful sauce and steamed rice (I chose brown). The portions were very good, and I even saved the salad dressing and spicy shrimp sauce for other meals. Ordered door dash pickup 45 mins out, 25 mins they alerted ready for pickup. Disappointed they'd ask for pickup time if they ignore it. Called in and they offered to remake (not reheat!) the meal and I appreciate the effort to fix this. I like the ginger they added to the pork belly, that's different than SF's recipe. This place is a "take out" version of Burma superstar just a couple of doors down. I ordered a $16 bowl and a diet coke. My total came up to be approx $24. After i was rung up i asked the cashier again what my total is because she did not give me a receipt. She told me my total was actually $20. I then checked my bank account online and the transaction posted was $24. I asked the cashier why my bank charged me $24 instead of $20. Cashier could not explain why. I asked the cashier to void my original transaction and to ring me up again with a request of the receipt. We both realized the cashier automatically charged me with a tip included. Cashier also told me that the system automatically charges the tip "sometimes." If the cashier knew that, why did she not figure that out the 1st time i asked her why i was over charged on the 1st transaction. I dont mind giving a tip if i was given that option the 1st place. The cashier rung me up with not having to sign anything and no receipt given. I find it very suspect. I write this review to warn people out there. Ordered the togo today as my friend highly recommended the food to me the other day. I got Tea Leaf Salad, Burmese Beef and Mango chicken. The beef was so tender and the curry was not too watery but just the way how I like it. Never had any tea leaf salad before. A guy named Chris worked there recommended and actually it tasted very flavor and nutty. Not so bad. Mango chicken was decent. Overall, love the food there. I ordered the gluten free Burmese popcorn chicken and omg I enjoyed it so much :) There wasn't an ounce of fat on it but still had a delicious crunch to it. It felt way healthier than normal friend chicken. I ate the whole thing to myself but definitely could have shared it as an appetizer for 3 or 4 people. Provides an interesting twist on the fried chicken sandwich. It comes with a nice curry inspired sauce, with cabbage and carrot slaw with some mint leaves. Chicken was fried well, no overdone. Overall, very tasty, and just different enough to set it apart from all of the other fried chicken sandwich options in the area. I will say, though, that the add-on of fries was not worth it, for me. The fries were pretty generic, could have come out of the frozen section at the supermarket. I'd skip it, next time. read more

This spot was today's lunch pickup for my work-from-home day. A friend introduced me to Burma Superstar a few months ago, and this place is such a handy spot to do a quick lunch pickup/delivery. I was a little disappointed there were no options for me to get the Chicken with Fresh Mint dish that I love from Burma Superstar, so I decided to try something new and got the Tea Leaf Salad. I will say that I was a little worried that it would be too adventurous for me. I grew up in the Midwest, so the only spices I was raised on were garlic and ranch dressing. Burmese food has been really fun to explore and the flavors are amazing, but I wasn't sure how "fermented tea leaves" would go. Everyone is absolutely right, though. This salad is a certified banger. Just a simple 10/10. If you have any dietary restrictions, checkout the Burma Superstar website for their big online menu. They note which dishes come vegan, gluten-free, etc. and which ones are available with modifications upon request. read more
