If you like Burma Superstar, you've GOT to try Burma Bites. I'm serious. I didn't go here for almost a year tbh, because I couldn't get away from Burma Superstar. Burma Bites is the fusion type of food you aren't scared to try things from. They have a platha quesadilla (I'll update my review when i find out the name)! They change their menu so check out the menu before you go if you really care. No joke I didn't take pictures because I ate it super fast. I ordered the Chicken Curry Bowl with coconut rice and it comes with steamed broccoli (that isn't steamed to death). I also ordered the platha and dip and it was 10/10. The platha was light and fresh. It's like a buttery tortilla if you aren't familiar, IMO. I will be back to try more stuff!

Burma Bites is such a sweet addition to the Temescal area in Oakland. I'm a huge fan of Burma Superstar and Burmese food, but now with baby in tow, I just don't have the time like I used to for sit-down meals that aren't pre-planned :) Burma Bites hits all the marks for the grab & go diner, or just one that may need outdoor seating with a stroller and eco-friendly to-go boxes just in case it's literally "go" time, ha. I love the Burma Bites vibe ~ Burmese street food mixed with the classics from Burma Superstar. And I hear there's a secret menu? Staff is super friendly and helpful, even though I couldn't stray too far from what I love and miss..the tea leaf salad. My husband was a bit more adventurous and ordered something unique and fun called the "Burmarito" which is Burmese curry braised beef brisket (cooked in a banana leaf) with Coconut Tea Leaf Rice, and a super yummy salsa/side dipping sauce wrapped in a tortilla. We also ordered a coconut curry chicken bowl with coconut rice to-go for later. No disappointments, everything hit the mark. There was a special going on if for mini samusas if you spent a specific amount ~ a super fun surprise to add to our spread. All in all, Burma Bites is perfect for those crunched on time but still want a quick meal that meets value with authenticity & flavor. I have my eye on a few other menu offerings like the Burmese Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Quesaplatha (similar to a quesadilla but using roti platha). Yum! Next time.

    Cute outdoor area too

I got the mango chicken rice bowl and it's a very clean delicious balanced healthy meal. Simple. I will be coming back to try all the other rice bowls. Service was so quick and they were kind. Also they have a lovely outdoor area.

My friend and I came here to celebrate her birthday and we didn't realize it was outdoor dining and take out only and it was a cold rainy day but luckily their outdoor dining was covered so we didn't get wet. We ordered the mango lassi, vegetable semusas, eggplant and tea leaf salad to share. All were tasty and delicious. Parking wasn't a problem and I was lucky to get a space near the post office. If I come here again, it will be on a warm day! Otherwise, since this is part of the Burma Superstar family, we'd head over to the indoor dining of Burma Superstar but I just read that the one 2 blocks away is temporarily closed.

    Quesaplatha Birria with consomme

Burma Bites is worth a try! I ordered the Quesaplatha Birria and Mini Potato Samusas! Highly recommended the Quesaplatha Birria! It's Griddled Indian flatbread with Oaxacan cheese and curried barbacoa. Served with burmese beef curry consomme. Loved the consomme! The Mini Potato Samusas was very good! Flaky indian pastry filled with peas and spiced potato, and served with a Cucumber Mint Raita. The cashier was very helpful, I believe his name was Fernando. Shout out to the cooks as well!

I'm so glad we did! We ordered the Original, Spicy Original, Honey Garlic, Gangnam Style, potstickers, and the Rose Ddeok-bokki. The Honey Garlic wings were hands down my favorite--they were perfectly crispy, flavorful, and had just the right balance of sweet and savory. The Original and Spicy Original were also really good, and the Gangnam Style didn't disappoint either. The only thing I wouldn't order again is the Rose Ddeok-bokki. It just wasn't for me. The only downside is the price. An 8-piece order of wings is about $18.00 before tip, which is definitely on the expensive side. That said, the quality of the food makes it worth treating yourself every now and then. The restaurant itself is really cute, with a few outdoor tables and a small bar ledge inside if you want to dine in. The customer service has always been friendly whenever I've visited. Just keep in mind that the food is made fresh, so it usually takes about 20-30 minutes. Don't go in super hungry unless you're okay with waiting, or better yet, place your order ahead of time and take it to go. Overall, this is a great spot if you're craving delicious Korean fried chicken. I'll definitely be back, especially for those Honey Garlic wings!

The bright red chicken comes in a box atop white bread and pickles. The crust (it broke off in chunks) was delicious and not too spicy, and the chicken fresh and tender. I also got a side of greens which was tasty and decent, though not a standout dish. I would definitely come here again.

No crispness, but more of a limp, soft exterior. 3. Their chicken, plus the friendly service saved the review from being 1 stars. Out of everything on my platter, it was the only thing that actually tasted fresh & not reheated. The skin was crispy with a juicy interior. It had a spicy kick to it that wasn't too overbearing. The fries were decent, but likely just some standard frozen fries. The ranch was also really good, but $.50 each small sized cup. My biggest gripe was the service and the state of the restaurant. In the booth we sat in there was an electrical outlet is hanging out of the wall and the booths are in need of cleaning. We had to use the bathroom, and the soap was out. The staff member brought a new one, but didn't know how to install it so it just sat on top of paper towels. Not a huge deal but bruh, figure it out. The guy was nice enough, but just sat and watched his phone when no one was at counter. There was also another guy, maybe from the kitchen (?) hanging out behind the counter sometimes as well. All while tables needed wiping, the bus tub was FULL with dishes, or either of them could have tried to get the soap installed. If there was no one at counter or food to cook it was stand around and stare at our phones. It's just sad Just a subpar experience for as much as food costs these days. The chicken doesn't need any sauce because it's perfectly tasty as it is. However the pesto sauce is delightful. I loved the pesto sauce and highly recommend it.
