If you like Burma Superstar, you've GOT to try Burma Bites. I'm serious. I didn't go here for almost a year tbh, because I couldn't get away from Burma Superstar. Burma Bites is the fusion type of food you aren't scared to try things from. They have a platha quesadilla (I'll update my review when i find out the name)! They change their menu so check out the menu before you go if you really care. No joke I didn't take pictures because I ate it super fast. I ordered the Chicken Curry Bowl with coconut rice and it comes with steamed broccoli (that isn't steamed to death). I also ordered the platha and dip and it was 10/10. The platha was light and fresh. It's like a buttery tortilla if you aren't familiar, IMO. I will be back to try more stuff!

Burma Bites is such a sweet addition to the Temescal area in Oakland. I'm a huge fan of Burma Superstar and Burmese food, but now with baby in tow, I just don't have the time like I used to for sit-down meals that aren't pre-planned :) Burma Bites hits all the marks for the grab & go diner, or just one that may need outdoor seating with a stroller and eco-friendly to-go boxes just in case it's literally "go" time, ha. I love the Burma Bites vibe ~ Burmese street food mixed with the classics from Burma Superstar. And I hear there's a secret menu? Staff is super friendly and helpful, even though I couldn't stray too far from what I love and miss..the tea leaf salad. My husband was a bit more adventurous and ordered something unique and fun called the "Burmarito" which is Burmese curry braised beef brisket (cooked in a banana leaf) with Coconut Tea Leaf Rice, and a super yummy salsa/side dipping sauce wrapped in a tortilla. We also ordered a coconut curry chicken bowl with coconut rice to-go for later. No disappointments, everything hit the mark. There was a special going on if for mini samusas if you spent a specific amount ~ a super fun surprise to add to our spread. All in all, Burma Bites is perfect for those crunched on time but still want a quick meal that meets value with authenticity & flavor. I have my eye on a few other menu offerings like the Burmese Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Quesaplatha (similar to a quesadilla but using roti platha). Yum! Next time.

    Cute outdoor area too

I got the mango chicken rice bowl and it's a very clean delicious balanced healthy meal. Simple. I will be coming back to try all the other rice bowls. Service was so quick and they were kind. Also they have a lovely outdoor area.

My friend and I came here to celebrate her birthday and we didn't realize it was outdoor dining and take out only and it was a cold rainy day but luckily their outdoor dining was covered so we didn't get wet. We ordered the mango lassi, vegetable semusas, eggplant and tea leaf salad to share. All were tasty and delicious. Parking wasn't a problem and I was lucky to get a space near the post office. If I come here again, it will be on a warm day! Otherwise, since this is part of the Burma Superstar family, we'd head over to the indoor dining of Burma Superstar but I just read that the one 2 blocks away is temporarily closed.

    Quesaplatha Birria with consomme

Burma Bites is worth a try! I ordered the Quesaplatha Birria and Mini Potato Samusas! Highly recommended the Quesaplatha Birria! It's Griddled Indian flatbread with Oaxacan cheese and curried barbacoa. Served with burmese beef curry consomme. Loved the consomme! The Mini Potato Samusas was very good! Flaky indian pastry filled with peas and spiced potato, and served with a Cucumber Mint Raita. The cashier was very helpful, I believe his name was Fernando. Shout out to the cooks as well!

I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Burma Superstar…read more My nephew and I were running late and arrived around 2:20 PM--after the kitchen had technically closed. Instead of turning us away, the staff graciously seated us and welcomed us with genuine warmth and kindness. That level of hospitality is rare and deeply appreciated. Our server, Hameed, was absolutely wonderful--so patient, attentive, and gracious even though we arrived at such an inconvenient time. He made us feel completely welcome and never rushed us. The food, as always, was extraordinary. The Tea Leaf Salad and Samosas were exquisite--bright, complex, and perfectly balanced. This was my nephew's first time trying Burmese cuisine and he was completely blown away. For our mains, I had the Shredded Mint Chicken, which was fragrant, fresh, and packed with flavor. My nephew ordered the Chili Lamb, and he loved every bite--rich, savory, and beautifully spiced. It was one of those meals where every dish delights, and you leave already thinking about what you'll order next time. Burma Superstar has long been one of my favorite restaurants in Oakland, and experiences like this are exactly why. Exceptional food, exceptional hospitality, and a team that truly cares about their guests. I will continue to recommend Burma Superstar most highly to anyone looking for a memorable meal in the East Bay.

Things changed: more breading on the chicken (spicy crispy chicken) and reduced protein in some of the other dishes, too. But the flavors still hit and its popularity hasn't dimmed much on the nights I've gone over the last few years. I bought their cookbook years back but much of what I like isn't in it, so I keep coming back for the food and community vibes. There is a communal table, which I appreciate though I tend to sit at the bar when I go alone. It's worth it to get a view of what's happening all around you. The B S in Alameda doesn't have the same energy or coziness, but it is easier to access with safer parking (now windows broken there but I've had that here and been hassled walking to/from) and dramatically shorter waits. The diversity of the diners is much lower than this one though (Alameda is still mostly old white people) and the menu has more options here, so I'll continue to return again and again and recommend it to others ... and hope to not have to replace car windows.

I've never had Burmese food before and finally got to try them on this last visit. We ordered delivery from them. Even if they gave an estimated time of an hour wait, I don't think it even took 30 minutes, which was great! We ordered a good amount of things including the star of the show- laphet thoke, the tea leaf salad. I've never had this before but I will sure be dreaming about it until I return. It had the best flavor and a good amount of crunch. Did I mention the portion was big?! We also got a few entrees including Burmese style curry chicken, sesame chicken, and another chicken dish. Also, the second star of the show is their coconut rice. I've never had anything like it, the right amount of sweet with their savory dishes. Everything was so good and fresh and delicious. I really loved the interior design. Everything was clean and well put together. The restaurant had a smaller, cozy feeling but still felt spacious enough to sit down and enjoy a meal. My favorite parts were the cultural decorations and paintings throughout the restaurant. Little details like that made the experience feel more authentic. Even the cashier area was beautifully designed and added to the overall atmosphere. Customer Service - 5/5 The service was very good. The server was extremely welcoming and friendly -- I believe she might have been the owner. She greeted us with a beautiful smile and created a warm environment that made the whole dining experience even better. Small interactions like that make a restaurant feel more personal and memorable. Food - 5/5 Dish Ordered: Trei Chlaing Chein Kroeung (Pan Fried Catfish) 5/5 My first time trying Cambodian food, and honestly this was an amazing introduction to the cuisine. This was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. The fish was cooked perfectly -- crispy golden skin on the outside while staying incredibly tender and flavorful on the inside. The sauce was what brought everything together. It was light with the perfect consistency, not too thick and not too heavy. You could taste the lemon coming through, adding the right amount of freshness and kick. There was a little spice, but not the kind that takes over the dish. It created a wonderful balance where every flavor complemented each other. The combination of the fish, sauce, citrus, and seasoning was simple but executed perfectly. Every bite made me want to keep eating. It was honestly delicious. Would I Order Again: 100% Yes. This is easily a dish I would come back for. No surprise this restaurant was previously Michelin recommended -- you can taste the quality and care behind the cooking. Additional Comment: I've always struggled with the idea that eating healthy means sacrificing flavor. A lot of healthier foods like salads can sometimes feel unsatisfying, but this dish reminded me that food can be both healthy and incredibly delicious when done right. I have passed by this restaurant ever since I was young, and it's amazing to see that it's still here after all these years. Seeing a restaurant with food this good not filled with customers honestly feels like a shame. Great food deserves to be discovered, shared, and supported. From the welcoming service, beautiful cultural atmosphere, and unforgettable food, this was an incredible first experience with Cambodian cuisine. I will definitely be back. This is the kind of restaurant you hope stays around for many more years.

We were a group of 5, and after about a 20 min wait (pretty much par-for-the-course for a Saturday night), we were seated. They do have tables outside, but we were told that we couldn't start our meal outside and then move to a table indoors after one was available, so we waited. Oh well! As we waited, we noticed a steady stream of online orders, indicating this is a popular place with those in the neighborhood. We got a few beers while we waited for a table. They also have Thai iced teas/coffee/lemonade, and serve young coconuts with water. We got a bunch of appetizers to share and some entrees. We got the crispy rice pork salad, this is served with lettuce leaves and herbs and a wedge of lime. I loved this dish - the crispy rice and ground pork combination was balanced and the squeeze of lime juice made for a perfect bite wrapped in a lettuce leaf with mint and cilantro. Next was the Bird & Buffalo Chicken wings, perfectly crispy and tossed in salt and pepper. Good for folks who don't enjoy the spice. We also got the grilled pork spare ribs to share, which folks enjoyed. For entrees we had the drunken noodles with pork, green curry with rice and massaman curry with rice. I could have done with a spicier version of the green curry, but it was flavorful and satisfying. Overall, a solid spot for Thai food - we will be back to sample some of their other dishes too!
