This place had been on my list forever due to the great reviews! I think where I messed up was not ordering the food mentioned in the great reviews. Came in on a Tuesday and it was surprisngly busy for a weekday night. We were seated right away. We started with the Roti with Chicken Curry. It was absolutely delicious but the quantity was not enough to justify the price of $12.99. It's essentially one roti cut into 8 pieces with a small ramikan of chicken curry. I was sad at the quantity because this was probably my favorite part of the meal. For entrees, we ordered: Garlic Eggplant and Shrimp - I absolutely LOVED the flavor of this dish but they gave us about 5 pieces of shrimp TOTAL. It was such a rip off for $18.99! Burmese Chicken Curry - It was okay. Nothing to brag about. Tasted like your basic chicken curry Peppered Lamb - I wish we got beef for this one because the flavor was there but the lamb tasted a little strange to me. The portion of lamb on this one was great Overall it was good, but not great. Gave me nothing to talk about to friends. If I come back I'll try some of the stuff people recommend. read more

Came back again for an updated review! I came with a friend on a Wednesday evening and it was decently packed. Again, parking was easy since it's located in a small plaza and fhe store was also very clean and nicely decorated. - Spring Rolls: Not the spring rolls we expected. They were basically vegetarian egg rolls. The description didn't say it was fried, so we assumed it was the fresh spring rolls. The filling was decent, but it was quite wet, so it felt a bit squishy. 2/5. - Eggplant Shrimp with Garlic Sauce: A well-seasoned dish that looked delicious too. The only downside was that there were way more eggplant pieces than shrimp. 4/5. - Kebat Chicken: Decent dish that tasted just how it looked. The chicken was slightly on the drier side, but nothing too bad. I did wish the veggies were a little softer though. The overall seasoning was fine, but more on the saltier side in my opinion. 3.5/5. - Jasmine Rice: Basic rice, but it was more on the drier side. 4/5. - Sweet Black Sticky Rice: Pretty good dessert. My friend really liked the dish, but I thought the sticky rice was bland. We split the rice in half and there was steam, but the rice wasn't hot--kinda of interesting lol. Classic vanilla ice cream and the orange slices were very sweet and delicious. 4/5. Overall, the service was pretty good. I don't think our waitress was fluent in English, so the communication was a bit difficult when we ordered, but nothing bad. After we finished, she asked if we wanted dessert. We said yes and asked for the menu, but she came back with the menu and the check, which we were confused by since we were going to order more. This time I ordered the tea leaf salad. 3/5 for me. I prefer slightly sweet slightly tangy dressing. This dressing was plain in taste for me, like, well..., almost flavorless tea leaves. Good thing was it wasn't bitter. I also ordered the chicken kebat and the shrimp eggplant garlic. I rate the chicken kebat 4/5. It has a tomato dried curry seasoning taste. Thin small pieces of Chicken were really tender it's good if you like your entrees with flavor and not saucy. I like saucy so I prefer the Shan curry better (Shan curry sauce is delicious and protein can be changed to meats to tofu). The shrimp eggplant garlic 5/5. I'll order this again along with the Shan curry. As these are my fave dishes there so far. We'd been meaning to try this fairly popular new spot for a while, especially as we'd never tried Burmese food before. It's a sit down restaurant with a vibe that leans slightly more casual--good for going out with family or a casual date, but they won't be don't things like e.g. timing dishes by course or to be out together. We tried the samosas, nan gyi thoke, and the spicy chicken. The samosas and chicken were generally fine, but it's hard to be too mad at something deep fried. My family did find the chicken sickly sweet, but that's perhaps a matter of preference. The nan gyi thoke was a let down, we felt strongly that it could use more spice and fresher flavors (e.g. lime, cilantro, red onion) to punch it up. The noodles were rich and well coated in a savory sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed it and overall, the dish was similar to a pad thai. I came here with one other person on a weekend dinner and we were seated immediately inside. Food came out very fast (almost instantaneously) after ordering. Minimal interaction with the server, but they were overall friendly. Very comfortable seating inside. It is a bit dim, but not too dark. There are nice photos of (I believe) Myanmar on the walls. My daughter's friend is from Burma and she recommended we try Burma Choice. After reading fellow Yelp elite member, Danster L's review, I made it a point to visit. In a word... WOW! The restaurant was not busy when we arrived. Since we were not familiar with Burmese cuisine we took our time exploring the menu. There were a lot of choices and all sounded appetizing based on the description. There were a number of meat dishes as well as many vegetarian offerings. We decided to try a sampling of both. Our daughter's friend highly recommended the Tea Leaf Salad so we started with that. I love Crispy Pork Belly and Salt Pepper Calamari so that was a must try. Another favorite is Garlic Eggplant so we added that to the list. Since I have to have rice with practically every meal I ordered a side of Coconut Rice. The kitchen was surprisingly quick to respond and food started arriving at the table almost immediately. Each dish was distinctly flavorful and complimented each other. I had to consciously stop myself from overeating since I wanted to have room to sample dessert. For that we chose Dessert Palata which was slices of sweet roti with ice cream. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. We have found a new favorite place to gladly spend our hard earned money. I'm so glad this place opened up! San Jose needed a Burmese restaurant! The location is in a great shopping center across Oakridge Mall with enough parking. The staff is attentive and gave great suggestions. I came here with two other gals during dinner time. What we ordered: - Tea Leaf Salad, it was just just right for 3 people. - Spicy Crispy Chicken, probably my least favorite from what we ordered, it had too much breading and the sauce was more sweet than spicy, it was something that I still ate, but probably wouldn't order again. - Crispy Pork Belly, I could eat this whole plate! It was cut and sliced thin enough to get the outside crispy and juicy inside, the sauce it came with was like a sweet chili sauce but I liked dipping it in a chili sauce that looked like paste (you have to ask for it) - Coconut Noodle Soup with Chicken, so good! i know this place has a LOT of rave reviews but i think it's best to try this restaurant knowing that it is OK so you're not as disappointed as i was. I've never had a tea leaf salad before, but read all these singing yelp reviews so thought it was a safe bet to try. The server mixed it and it tasted very heavy in the dressing, too salty for my taste. it wasn't mixed fully, so maybe the first bites were all dressing... I couldn't eat it, even though we tried to mix it more thoroughly the heaviness was already too much. i told the server we didn't like it sadly & they took it away. the shan tofu was OK, the veggie roti was "ok" too, but, i've had better. the samosa soup was okay, perhaps the restaurant deserves 3 stars. but because of the awful customer service, and to balance out all the overly star-heavy reviews, i am going to leave 2 stars. i was willing to give the restaurant another try next time ordering entrees i was interested in if the appetizers and soup didn't already fill us up (would have liked to try the garlic eggplant, coconut rice, and pumpkin stew) except i will not be returning because the owner decided that just because my party didn't like the tea salad i should still pay for it even if i didn't eat it... "because it is one of the most popular dishes." they did try... by removing 50% of the salad price but i just felt that was in poor judgement - they were willing to lose a customer than to instead stand behind their other dishes but that's fine. I won't be returning; i would have rather spoken to the owner but he let the server explain his position again that the salad was made the way everyone else loves it... saying perhaps next time I should ask for the dressing on the side, but this should have been an option when the staff mixed it for us. still 50% off was better than nothing, in my honest opinion it was an overpriced meal for the experience. I have hesitated to post this review but with so many 5-stars i think it's fair to offer a balanced opinion so that others don't have the same expectations. also it would have been nice if the owner spoke to us directly instead of being no where to be found and leaving the message for the server to deliver. i am glad so many people support this restaurant and hope they continue to, but personally i won't be returning. and first timers should see both sides of the experience - again i was shocked by yelp on this one. read more

Highly recommend. We have tried this place but only delivered food. Food was exceptional then. We just tried dining at the restaurant and it was a great experience overall. We tried the tea salad, eggplant garlic, samosas, and chicken biryani. All were phenomenal. They also have the ultra hot hot sauce. Proceed with caution but it is good! Nice Burmese restaurant in a busy strip mall was a please a surprise for lunch! The place was clean and inviting either a friendly welcome. The menu is clear and descriptive and has a wide selection of both food and drinks. We started with the Tea Salad, which was tossed at the table and the sweet chili mango tofu. Both were large portions and very delicious. The tea salad had lots of different tastes and textures from the fermented tea dressing, crunch nuts and sesame seeds and fresh lettuce. The mango toffee was amazing! It was fried tofu, which sometimes is overcooked and dry, these were crispy on the outside and velvety soft on the inside with the sweet mango and chili sauce with a touch of spice. Will definitely order again. We were pretty full just from these two dishes (two of us) but got one entree and bowl of rice anyway. We thought we were getting a pumpkin curry but it ended up being more of a pumpkin vegetable stew (our fault), but it was delicious, just not spicy/curry-y as expecting, but warm and savory. The restaurant is clean and inviting and we were greeted right away. The menu had many options and all looked delicious. We decided on the rainbow salad and eggplant with shrimp.
