We have become a fan of Burmese food, most especially the palata with chicken curry dipping sauce, so naturally we ordered that. Although the bread had the look and consistency we would expect, the curry was not as flavorful as we have had at other restaurants, so that was a disappointment. We had the mango salad, which I thought was okay, and not as sweet as I expected. My husband ordered the Burma House noodles with chicken, and it was tasty, a bit like Pad Thai. Great great great Burmese food! We have come here twice already! The first time it was just me and my husband and our kid and the second time we came here with friends. Both times the food was delicious. The service can be slow sometimes especially because they get a LOT of take out orders (may be grub hub or DoorDash). The first time around our food was delayed a lot but we were patient since it's a new restaurant and we saw a lot of orders being prepared for to-go orders. Eventually our food did come and it was pretty good. The service team was very nice too and attended to us as they could. The second time around we ordered the samosas and we found a hair in there. We sent it back and they got us a fresh plate. Things happen, I understand and overall we really liked the fish curry, veg fried rice, tea salad and mixed veg tofu that we got. The good: This is a delicious restaurant! It surpassed my expectations. I made my birthday reservation here for a party of 12 people and it was easy to do by phone. I ordered 5 salads, two noodle dishes, the pork belly dish, a fish dish, a shrimp and eggplant dish, the palata appetizer (it's like roti prata) with curry (4 orders of it), and a few other dishes I cannot recall. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were all friendly, accommodating and helpful. Our waters were always full and the waiter even gave my baby a spoon to play with. I loved that they had so many salad options. I tried the ginger, rainbow, tea leaf, mango and tea leaf salad. The noodle and mango were my favorite but all salads were spectacular! They were so fresh, unique and scrumptious. The Thai basil eggplant with shrimp dish was my next favorite. It was saucy and fragrant. My mom thought the Burma noodle Dish was better than your average pad Thai. My entire family really enjoyed the meal. It cost over $400 for 10 adults but we had leftovers. I'll have to come back and try their appetizers. The menu had so many amazing options that included a lot of vegetarian options as well. The bad: The only item I ordered extra was the pork belly based on their recommendation but it was one of my less favorite dishes. It wasn't bad tasting but didn't stand out as much as the others. There was supposedly free ice cream for birthdays but we didn't redeem it and weren't offered jt at the end so we just passed because we were so full. The interesting: I called 7/11 to make reservations for 7/19. The person who answered the phone told me he'd recommend calling again the day before or a couple of days ahead to remind them. Came for the first time on a Saturday for group lunch- everyone loved the food & servers were all very attentive & friendly. Explained the dishes well, checked water constantly. The favorites among our group were the sesame chicken, garlic noodles, tea leaf salad and nan gyi thoke- also dessert was delicious! Food was fresh '& Tasty - not as strong in terms of flavors as perhaps some of our SE Asian friends prefer, but we get it, American palates require a little modification. After seeing all the wonderful Yelp reviews and knowing this place was so close to us, we came and tried it tonight for my parents anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint! The restaurant itself is super clean and cute and the service was super friendly. There were so many things we wanted to try but we started our first visit with the eggplant shrimp with garlic sauce, beef chow mein, chicken biryani and shrimp fried rice. The food came out very quickly and it was fresh and piping hot. Everything we ordered was delicious but my favorites were the biryani and the eggplant shrimp with garlic sauce. Loved my first experience with Burmese food at Burma Choice! I came on a Friday during lunch with a group of 8 from work. The staff was able to seat us outside, which was very nice! The wait staff was very attentive and took a lot of time to explain some of the dishes. We shared two Tea Leaf Salads for the table, which was just as good as my entre! Everything here is served "family style", but unfortunately no one in my group wanted to share! I ordered the Burma Choice Noodles with Tofu and it was delicious! Lots of flavor and not too oily. They have a pretty large dining space and even offer a few umbrella tables outside. I ordered the following to go: 1. Crispy pork 2. Samosas 3. Burmese chicken curry 4. Chicken garlic noods 5. Chicken coconut soup 6. Brown and white rice 7. Walnut shrimp 8. Deep Fried Calamari Total came out to $116. This fed 4 adults. We asked the waiter for recommendations and got the exact same dishes as the ones we ordered in the last Burmese restaurant we went to and hence I was forced to compare. The salt and pepper chicken was decent though very salty in some parts. The samosa soup was decent but the falafel left an odd slimy feeling on the tongue. Overall: go to this place!!!! Recommendations: Palata and rainbow salad When my wife found out about this place weeks ago she always mentioned it. We finally had a chance to go. We decided on lunch for Sunday. I thought it would be empty because we weee there early. I was wrong. There was 4 droops ahead of us and more that came after us. They have outdoor seating to accommodate guests with dogs. That is always nice. The decor was modern with an attempt to share Burmese culture. I really like the modern wood look of the bar and it's beer selections. Didn't understand the wreaths, it just looked out of place. Now the food: we ordered the Paleta which is basically Roti. I love roti, it came with a chicken curry as a dip. That curry was sweet. You could taste to coconut milk with it. We had a side of Paleta as well and it came with sugar. We also ordered the Burmese chicken curry. This curry was not overpowering as Indian or Thai. I really liked that. There was also large chunks of chicken versus small chunks and lots of sauce. This made the amount worth it. I saw many recommendations for the rainbow salad. So we gave it a try. This salad is basically a Burma version of a pad Thai. What I thought was so cool was that they asked if we wanted them to mix it. It was like table service. Oh, did I say it was delicious? If I didn't I will. Service was great. Wedged between a Tleaf and a Pizza My Heart is the inviting Burmese Choice. The plaza has a lot of foot traffic and other various establishments. We came for a late lunch on Sunday at 2pm. There are plenty of parking spots. Since it was the tail end of lunch, when we arrived, there was a decent amount of guests, but by the time we got our food, the crowd left and it was just us. The decor is modern and inviting, with warm lamp lights ahead and many green plants along the tables. There is a bar, but also plenty of tables so the establishment is overall roomy and spacious. Service was fast, they took our orders and put out our dishes in a timely manner. They also gave us a new cup since one of ours had something stuck to it. PALATA WITH CHICKEN CURRY: This is essentially fluffy and crispy roti bread that's quartered and served with a coconut chicken curry. There were eight pieces of roti in total. This is a good amount for two people. The roti was great, albeit a bit greasy to the touch. The curry was served in a little saucer, with a pieces of tender chicken in it. The curry amount itself was very little, we wished more was included as we ended up with more roti than curry. Nevertheless, this was an excellent dish to whet your appetite with. TEA LEAF SALAD: This was our first time having tea leaf salad and on initial impressions, it was very colorful and beautiful. It came in a curved bowl and the server tossed it for us. To describe the texture, it is quite crunchy since it's nut and chip heavy, resulting in a great mouthfeel. The fermented dressing really coats your mouth and comes off a bit greasy as well. I would say the fermented dressing is an acquired taste for the uninitiated, but I think with the right expectations most people would enjoy this, since it has a refreshing and salty flavor profile from your typical vinaigrette with an added hint of pungency from the fermentation. It's definitely unique and different from your usual salad, which is honestly a delight. This seems to be one of their signature dishes and I would definitely agree. This is a must-order here. FISH CHOWDER NOODLE SOUP (MOAT HINGAR): This is my first time having this dish and I have no standard baseline for this. With no expectations at all, when the soup arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by how colorful it is. The catfish noodle soup is accompanied by a separate plate of toppings. Although not mentioned in the menu, it also came with what I assume to be crispy lentils that are battered and deep fried. Trying those lentils alone, it tasted great and I thought it would be great topping for the soup. Unfortunately, I was quite let down with this dish overall as it became a soppy medley of vermicelli noodles, fish chunks and soggy lentils. The boiled eggs slices didn't help as it was super hard boiled (to the point that the yolk is grey) and it assisted with soaking up what little is left of the soup. The whole thing itself was pretty bland in taste and the texture was gloopy, chunky, slippery and slimy. Granted, I don't know what moat hingar is supposed to taste like, so perhaps this is how it's supposed to be. I assume it's the Burmese equivalent to Chinese congee, of which the latter I prefer a lot more of. I did not finish this dish and didn't bother to take it as leftovers. BURMA HOUSE NOODLE: This is a rice noodle with red bell peppers, onions, cabbage, and egg, with crushed peanuts and lemon on the side. This can be served with either tofu, chicken, beef or shrimp, with respecting price increase for choice of protein. The noodles were delicious. It was bright and tangy and the chicken was nicely velveteen and tender. This dish is reminiscent of Pad Thai, which makes sense. The portion of this dish is reasonable. Very hard to get wrong, but delicious nonetheless. BURMESE ICED MILK TEA: I was curious what this is and how this is different from a regular milk tea. Turns out, this is your normal milk tea but a stronger steep and with evaporated milk. I found it to be quite sweet. It does the job as a nice drink to have with your meal. The price is a little steep for this establishment and you can find other comparable Burmese places for a better price presumably. I assume you are really paying for the modern vibes of this place. For instance, the palata with curry is at best an $8-$9 appetizer but it's $13.99 -- and for such a small serving. The salad, I can see as $14 instead of $17.99. Overall, as someone who isn't familiar with Burmese cuisine, it seems that there are plenty of options that are pretty beginner-friendly (tea leaf salad, palata with curry, Burma house noodles). Although we only tried the one soup, it didn't leave us with a great impression and I am now wary of the soups. The other dishes were however quite good. While this place didn't strike the right price point for us, if money isn't an issue there are some great eats than can be found here. read more

We are very excited to have a Burmese restaurant here in South San Jose. Burma Choice opened June 1st in the Lucky's shopping center on Santa Teresa Boulevard. Because it's a large shopping center there is plenty of parking and a nice outdoor dining area with umbrellas. Today we tried the tea leaf salad, the coconut milk soup with chicken, the garlic noodles with shrimp, the garlic pork, steamed rice, and coconut jello dessert. The tea leaf salad was a delicious mix of crunchy and soft ingredients, and everything tasted fresh. My favorite was the coconut milk soup with chicken. The broth was so good that I saved the remaining portion to take home and enjoy later. The restaurant is nicely decorated and clean, and the employees are friendly and helpful. Looking forward to eating here again soon. They are giving 15% off to everyone until June 15th! read more

We were in the mood for Burmese food, but in a hurry so had take out. We ordered mango chicken, Burma curry eggplant and garlic noodles with chicken. Ready in 15min. Everything was nicely packed and secure. Portions were good. Mango chicken was very flavorful and tender. Glad this place uses chicken breasts (some restaurants go cheap and use chicken thighs or dark meat). The Burma curry eggplant was a new discovery for us. It's a stew-like slightly spicy thick broth with eggplants cooked in it. Goes well with rice if like mixing thick broth/gravy with rice, simple, filling and tasty. The garlic noodles with chicken (flat thoke noodles) were good, nothing spectacular but done well nonetheless, a bit oily for my taste. We will try their pumpkin stews next time. read more

Orders came out - coconut noodles soup and chicken dish for my friends and just a single serving of coconut rice for me! We sat for quite some time waiting for my dishes to come out...finally another server came up to us and noticed we had been waiting for a long time and said I'll check with your server. Jason comes back, I asked where are my orders? He seemed unaware of my orders- we had just had a conversation about it earlier. Am I suppose to eat coconut rice by itself only for lunch?! So he says you want the tofu, I say forget the tofu, just the coconut noodle soup. My soup - beautiful presentation, fresh ingredients. Large bowl of coconut chicken noodle soup and has more of a gravy like consistency. Side dish of fresh sliced onions, hard boiled egg, cilantro, and wontons- all were mixed into my soup. Not much chicken in the soup- I was searching for more pieces and flavor to me was slightly underwhelming- I added two tiny plates of chili paste to my soup for spice. I absolutely love to treat ourselves to Burma Choice. We were at this cozy little place only once and fell in love. We shared a tea leaf salad which was so delightful, crunchy and flavorful. Cassandra the owner is a true hostess and makes you feel so at home. We also loved the coconut rice (out-of-this-world) yumyness, accompanied by a flavorful curried chicken and walnut prawns. We were so satisfied we didn't even order desserts. The coconut rice was the sweet touch to this transporting meal. I felt as if I were in Burma, itself. I happened to visit during their grand opening, and we had a great experience so I'll be recommending Burma Choice to my friends! We were a group of 10 hungry people after an Ultimate frisbee tournament. June did a great job accommodating our surprise large party and all the food came out quickly. We got multiple tea leaf salads to share, and I tried the Burmese house curry with pork. The curry was delicious, although a bit pricey ($16.99). My friends got the Burmese house noodles and garlic noodles and those looked great as well. Portions are good and could be multiple meals for some. There was a bit of confusion with the bill because we wanted the bill to be split in half (5 people for each check), but we got 2 checks with each item's price split in half. LOL read more

We live less than a mile away so we're in trouble, this is really quite good. Burmese food is our jam, and this may be the best example in the South Bay. We were seated quickly for a Sunday lunch and the place was nearly packed. We had the tea leaf salad, nan gyi thoke (noodles) and black pepper beef, plus coconut rice and paratha on the side. It was all very good with a few quibbles: no option for cabbage with the salad, the hard boiled egg in the noodles was overcooked, and my beef was quite gristly. The taste of everything was excellent, though. I've never seen sugar served with paratha and now I rather wish I never knew how delicious it is. Our server was very friendly and gave great suggestions and background on the dishes (who knew that cabbage is not authentic?). Service was prompt despite the all-too-common understaffing nowadays. The interior is great, though the bar looks a bit lonely and probably will remain that way until their liquor license goes through.
