Have now visited Burnt End BBQ enough times to establish a pretty solid review......and it's definitely a go. I always have to go with burnt ends of course, but I have tried their brisket and pulled pork and everything is good. Very good hand cut fries (a huge must for any BBQ in my book) and all the sides I have tried were good. They have a crazy amount of sauces to try and whether you're a sweet, smokey, or flaming hot type of person, you will find a sauce that is right for you. I would definitely consider Burnt Ends BBQ as a top 10 BBQ joints in the KC metro and that is saying a lot with the crazy amount of amazing places to choose from. I've been to KC Joes... I get it... I dig it. But who knew BBQ in a strip mall shopping center with Best Buy, Walmart etc in the burbs of KC would turn out serious BBQ? Staying nearby for biz. Checked it out once and loved the smoked turkey, really amazing by it self. But the burnt ends? Awe gawd... slap my grandma twice! The meat, the smoke, the fat, the caramelization of sugar salt, spices... so much flavor pack into those little half inch cubes of heaven. Ive only got it to go... perfect meal. Tonight saw some of the NBC Thursday night football bus crew getting it to munch on it in that palatial bus parked out back. You have to wonder, if these guys are here, that's sayin something right? This place is really really good! We went here on a whim when Joe's was closed on a Sunday. I made my own bowl of pork and burnt ends, mac and tomatoes and cucumber salad (put those on the side). The pork is amazing and moist! The burnt ends melt in your mouth and are perfectly balanced. The buffalo wings are smoked and a great slow even burn without being too vinegary. They have a large selection of different types of bbq sauce, most are towards the sweeter side of the spectrum. The spicy ones are delicious and worth a taste! The mac is pretty good, but is missing a little extra, like melted cheese on top or crumbs or extra cheese for texture. Everything else was definitely up to par! We ate out here as a belated Valentine's dinner date ... with our kids. The kiddie menus were affordable in a reasonable portion. For less than $6 bucks, they had a cheeseburger with mac and cheese on the side each. Their meal also came with soda and a cookie. My husband and I both opted for the Two Meats and Two Sides option. I got the burnt ends and smoked turkey, with coleslaw and potato salad on the side. The meal came with a slice of bread, too. At first I thought the serving was small but it turns out, it was just right for my kind of eating. We have a problem with writing down a tip right after you pay? It's common knowledge to tip. But what are we tipping on? That you took my order and told me to pay at the end of the line. Well the help did bring out our food in a timely fashion but after that no contact until we were finished with lunch. So basically they bring food and take your tray. It is like a cafeteria style service so if this helps. I did like the 1/2 chicken it was Hot and that's how you like to eat chicken. It had taste but not overbearing and the chicken peeled off the bone. The pit beans were pretty good and some shaved meat to make it extra chuncky. The cheese corn had no flavor and was bland it looked like it was going to be special but fell flat. The flame sauce was so sweet and then the HOT extra credit for this. This was during restaurant week 2016. I came here around 11:45am on a Saturday and there was a short line. Parking was plentiful and there shouldn't be issues with finding parking when it wasn't so cold. There was a door that read "In" and another that read "Out" once you go through the main doors. After that, there were three large flat screen TVs on the right side of the wall that displayed the menu. I ordered from the restaurant week menu which was a half slab of baby back ribs, two sides, and a beverage. I chose the hickory pit beans and the cheesy corn as my sides. In addition, I ordered a half pound of burnt ends ($8.49). I paid on the other side where the soda machines were. There was a lot of tables still available so I sat at one of the high tables near the window. The burnt ends came out first then the half slab of baby back ribs. The half slab of baby back ribs were just okay to me. A big part of it was so charred that I didn't bother eating it. The cheesy corn and hickory pit beans were both good. The burnt ends were not really moist to me and some pieces were more fatty than others. There were three different sauces on the table: Traditional Thick N Bold Sauce, Sweet Honey Glaze, and Spicy Southwest Sauce. I tried each one with the burnt ends. The Traditional Thick N Bold Sauce tasted sweeter to me than the Sweet Honey Glaze. The Spicy Southwest Sauce had a little spice on it, but I didn't think everything in the sauce was blended well with each other. I thought this place was just okay for BBQ. read more

The bbq here is probably better than most cities, but for Kansas City it's just fine. The sandwiches seem a bit expensive for the amount of meat they give and the meat tends to lean to the fatty side. I would advise to stay away from the flavorless onion straws but the fries are pretty solid. I do enjoy the array of styles of sauces that they have to offer. Cole slaw isn't bad, but it isn't the wow of Q39, more Jack's-lite. Smoke is the thing, and there's just not a very impressive Smokey taste to their brisket is you eat it straight. Yum! Vegan BBQ options! I'm so excited to have a new place to take my in-laws when they want bbq that has options for everyone. My husband and I both had the vegan bowl which has lightly fried bbq tofu, wild rice, and veggies. Other vegan options like the Beyond Burger and some delicious sounding sides are also available. Ahhmmaaazziinngg! I was visiting for work and went to Yelp to guide me to the best BBq nearby and they did NOT disappoint. The manager rang me up and helped me with some of his favorites. I went with the burnt ends and smoked sauasag combo. I also had their sweet and spicy slaw and seasonal grilles vegetable medley. Everything was fantastic with an awesome smokey flavor and that spicy slaw is a game changer. I will be back on my next visit to try some of their other offerrings. I like that they have a variety of house made local BBQ sauces. My favorite was the Original sauce. Their prices are pretty standard for what they provide and you will not leave hungry. Meat and sauces have and continue to be Amazing but sides have not always been their strong suit. Personally I want great sides but overall the superiority of the meat and sauce made up for the lesser quality of their Cole slaw and beans and both incarnations of their beans were good but what I'm here to rant on is this: They have taken away their platter and combo Now all items are ala cart. Come on owners you've clawed your way through the American Royal and kept your heads up during COVID and are expanding and you take away your best deal. Flew into KC for work this morning and our delightful bus driver at the airport asked us if we were here for the bbq. Yes please. He said we all had to have bunt ends "because that is where the flavor lives". So I I went in a search for the burnt ends and they just helped to be at a place named for them. The Tuesday special is the burnt end bowl. It's a lovely bowl of perfectly seasoned bbq baked beans. Topped with three little fried cornbread fritters, burnt ends and homemade onion straws. No fat in her pork sandwich. The burnt ends had to be good and they were. I ordered them in a bowl with corn bread, baked beans, etc. For those who don't mind mixed food, this is the way to roll. Although it came with sauce, there are seven+ sauces available to you and the spicy barbecue and honey barbecue were my favorites. The hottest one was a mustard-base, which isn't my kind of thing ... but it was impressively hot. The environment is more fast casual, so the quality of food outpaces the restaurant. My favorite part of the meal was the Baked Potatoes Salad!! If I could, I would order a tub filled of that baked potato salad. The flavors blended just perfectly, and the consistency was extremely smooth. My least favorite part of the meal was the cornbread. The cornbread was extremely dry and had no flavor to it. (Sorry, not sorry) The restaurant itself is clean and tidy and the staff at this specific location treats you with the upmost respect. The service was surprisingly fast considering how good the food was as well. So it's good for coming in to grab a quick meal, or to spend your time sitting down inhaling their great and fulfilling meals. Parking is sufficient as they have their own parking lot and the time period we went (5ish) wasn't too busy at all. Price point wasn't insane either for what you get. It's around $11 for a full meal that will leave your belly incredibly full. (You might as well unbutton those pants now and loosen that belt) I would highly recommend the burnt ends, obviously they got their name from this, and the pulled pork. The sides are just as good and I'd recommend the macaroni, coleslaw, or the chili cheese fries. The Texas toast is even some of the best toast I've ever had the pleasure of devouring. I ordered the Chipotle Chicken wings with Ranch and the half slab of St. Louis Ribs. My husband ordered the Mac Bowl. Let's start with the burnt ends and work our way down. Succulent is an adjective I haven't used in a while. For a place named Burnt End BBQ I had high expectations and they were met. I didn't even want to put any sauce on them because they were so tasty. The ribs were were a standard affair of smokey goodness, soft, tender meat, also good. The pulled pork was moist (a word I hate using but reserve for bbq reviews) and flavorful. The sides oh, the sides. The sides are like creating the crowd in any sports video game, more work than it's worth but still has to be done. We had the mac and cheese, which was shells and cheese, nothing to write home about but the beans were very interesting, they weren't the standard brown sugar affair I'm use to, that gets lost on the palate along with all the bbq sauce that's been consumed but rather more of a chili concoction that I found pleasantly surprising and a nice break from the sauce. Corn bread was good but the honey butter put it over the top, nothing unusual there. The sauces, I don't know what array of sauces they have but there were two on the table, a sweet spicy one that at once was sweet and than immediately spicy, nothing to bridge the gap and definitely not my favorite. The other was their standard affair, basic sauce. Pretty good. All this to say, it's worth a shot if you're in the area and I will be back. We kept hoping that it was just a fluke that the meat was just too fatty. But we give up - they have lost our business. Well, no, it isn't because we used to get pieces in burnt ends that were like brisket with a LITTLE bit of fat but NOT ALL fat. One must taste them prior to placing salt on them if at all. We ordered one pound of burnt ends. We received multiple 'FAT' pieces in that pound and believe you me my husband likes the fatty pieces but even he thought there' was more then necessary. They have a smoky flavor to them, a nice smoke ring but slightly tasteless unless you add a sauce to them. A good burnt end should not need sauce is our motto.
