Let's start with the burnt ends and work our way down. Succulent is an adjective I haven't used in a while. For a place named Burnt End BBQ I had high expectations and they were met. I didn't even want to put any sauce on them because they were so tasty. The ribs were were a standard affair of smokey goodness, soft, tender meat, also good. The pulled pork was moist (a word I hate using but reserve for bbq reviews) and flavorful. The sides oh, the sides. The sides are like creating the crowd in any sports video game, more work than it's worth but still has to be done. We had the mac and cheese, which was shells and cheese, nothing to write home about but the beans were very interesting, they weren't the standard brown sugar affair I'm use to, that gets lost on the palate along with all the bbq sauce that's been consumed but rather more of a chili concoction that I found pleasantly surprising and a nice break from the sauce. Corn bread was good but the honey butter put it over the top, nothing unusual there. The sauces, I don't know what array of sauces they have but there were two on the table, a sweet spicy one that at once was sweet and than immediately spicy, nothing to bridge the gap and definitely not my favorite. The other was their standard affair, basic sauce. Pretty good. All this to say, it's worth a shot if you're in the area and I will be back. We loved Burnt End BBQ but in the past 4 months it has been such a disappointment each time that we've given them another chance. We kept hoping that it was just a fluke that the meat was just too fatty. But we give up - they have lost our business. We had to have the meat replaced 3 times in a row and excuses were made that "that's the way burnt ends are". Well, no, it isn't because we used to get pieces in burnt ends that were like brisket with a LITTLE bit of fat but NOT ALL fat. During the past 4 months, we got more pieces that were pure fat with just a sliver - and I mean sliver - of meat in each bite. A couple of times, we both had diarrhea from too much fat. We've given up on Burnt End BBQ. Too bad because I loved their Burnt End Bowl. Just not going to fight the battle to get a decent meal. Our usual spot for BBQ was closed today. Family recommended this place for burnt ends as in the old days we all Went to Sneads! As previous reviews stated, the fries are extremely salty. One must taste them prior to placing salt on them if at all. We ordered one pound of burnt ends. We received multiple 'FAT' pieces in that pound and believe you me my husband likes the fatty pieces but even he thought there' was more then necessary. They have a smoky flavor to them, a nice smoke ring but slightly tasteless unless you add a sauce to them. A good burnt end should not need sauce is our motto. Nine year old Grandson wanted burnt ends so he searched yelp and chose this one over two others that were closer to us. I am happy to report he made a great choice! We both had the burnt ends. Very solid BBQ joint in the KC metro. While certainly not the best in the metro, it can definitely hold its own. The inside is nice. There are a couple of TV's and screens that has the menu. You order first, pay, then you get a number stand which you place on your table so that the workers can identify your order and bring it out to you. The staff was pleasant so that's a bonus. I got the KC Restaurant Week special that consisted of Burnt Ends, Chicken, 2 sides (I got beans and fries), and a cookie. The burnt ends are nice and smoky. They are fatty though but I personally like that part. The chicken was okay. Personally, I never get chicken at BBQ places but it came with the platter. Best part was the skin to be honest. The fries and beans were solid. They have I believe 7 different kinds of sauces so you don't have to get trapped using only one style of sauce. Personally, I loved the Bold and Thick the best. I am a huge fan of barbecue having been born and raised in Kansas City. Everybody does everything a little bit different but specific places definitely have their skill set. By the name I figured my best bet would be to get their burnt ends. I got a pound of burnt ends and multiple sides because I have never been here before and I wanted to have a good idea of what was good. Everything was delicious with the exception of the beans that were SO thick with sauce the beans weren't even a part of that party, I'd pass on them next time. That whole thing was a little strange. I saw this restaurant was an upcoming participant in the "Kansas City Restaurant Week" so I decided to get a head start. The folks behind the counter were very friendly and referred to me by name (which they conveniently wrote on my plate). I ordered burnt ends, brisket and smoked wings. They sliced each right in front of me and dropped the wings in the fryer while I watched. Everything was done perfectly. The brisket was exceptional (and I've lots of practice eating brisket). They had a large number of sauces and sides. The restaurant was bright and clean, and had several TVs for sports fans. They had an array of local and domestic beers in the cooler. The grits and corn bake were really good. The meat was really good as well, but the "burnt ends" were not what I really think of as burnt ends, just meat that had been cubed and slightly charred. I feel like I am about to commit blasphemy...but this is the best damn BBQ in the KC metro area according to us and our dog! We have tried a majority of the "good/recommended" BBQ joints all over KC and this one comes out on top every time. Super consistent with their meats, great flavor, plethora of sauce choices, multiple side options and dishes. It's a win-win. I have had most of their meets, burnt ends (best in the city hands down), ribs, ham, turkey, pulled pork. All of their meats rock my world. As do their sides-their beans are at the top of my list as well. Although Joe's and Crazy Good Eats beans may be a tad better. Their ribs fall off the bone, I realize everyone thinks Joes and other places do as well but the last few times we had Joes ribs (our 2nd fav BBQ) they were tough. They offer a loyalty type program, you get a punch for every visit after a certain # of visits you get a free sandwich. If you join their email club you get a free sandwich and other surprises (I just received a $10 off coupon!) They have daily specials (Fridays are $1 beers) I think these change periodically so I am not going to write them all down. When you walk in you are greeted with 3 vertical TV's that display menu items. They have these things called "BBQ bowls" OMGSH yum! I can't eat the cornbread but the rest if a great way to try multiple meats and sides. You then go to a counter, order, she/he hands you a receipt of sorts and you walk down to pay at a separate cashier. Just like Joe's really. I live in Texas and I am a bar-b-q fanatic. I own a smoker and I visit barbq places in Tx and during my business trips to Kansas. The burnt ends at this rest are my new #1. The bark was thick, tasty and the meat super juicy. I also had the Ribs and they were good too however the burnt ends were so amazing that my senses could not think about anything else. To their credit the Turkey was fantastic- good thing because the veggies consisted of one gigantic piece of broccoli 2 huge chunks of onion and bell pepper. We were driving around down south and decided it would be a perfect time to try some place we've never been. The Man is always in the mood for BBQ and I needed a new place to mix it up a bit... Thanks to other Yelpers for identifying this little BBQ diamond in the rough! After a lot of hemming and hawing over the menu, yelper suggestions, and addressing my own idiosyncrasies I settled on the smoked turkey ruben. The Man did a 2 meat plate with baby back ribs and burnt ends. We both ordered the onion straws and The Man also got cheesy corn. The onion straws were perfect! They were well seasoned and they give you a ton of them. The smoked turkey ruben was so moist and flavorful I could hardly believe it! Turkey has a tendency to get dry but not the case with this sandwich. Plus I really enjoyed the slaw they put on in place of sauerkraut. The Man was in smoky heaven and seriously impressed with his ribs and burnt ends. He insisted on me trying both and I have to agree...compliments to the chef were in order! I am not a fan of burnt ends due to their generally significant level of marbling but I can definitely see snagging at least a couple from The Man next time we visit. You immediately get the beautiful flavor of smoke and meat when you bite into the burnt end. I was also told they do not 'manufacture' burnt ends. They are the real deal from the tip. I say good on them and keep up the excellent work. As for the ribs, they also had excellent flavor, were cooked properly - providing a perfect bite, and the serving size was good. This was my first time eating here. In a city full of BBQ options, it's easy to get in a rut and stick with the places that get a lot of hype. I'm glad that I ventured out of my comfort zone and found this gem of a restaurant in Overland Park. Burnt End BBQ is a fast casual joint with an easy going feel about it. The decor is a bit rustic and a bit modern. It's clean, well lit and spacious. People aren't stacked on top of each other, even at full capacity. On my maiden voyage, I chose to go with a 2 meat, 2 side bowl that consisted of Burnt ends, Competition sliced brisket, corn bread, fries and Mac-N-Cheese. Sooooo much food for around $10 bucks! The sides were delightful. The corn bread wasn't dry. The brisket had a real nice smoke ring with just enough bark and moistness to appease the most discerning palate. The true star of the show was the Burnt Ends. They were absolutely the best I've had in KC. They were very soft, moist and extremely flavorful! The sauces were great too, however I found that I didn't need them on any of the meats and only used them with my French fries. Two sauces really stood out for me. I couldn't get enough of the Thick n Bold or the Fire Sauces. The entire time I was eating, I kept thinking to myself "Why aren't more people talking about this place?" Stopped here on a late Saturday afternoon. The restaurant is very trendy, cute for what I consider "fast food BBQ". But..that's just it. My mind keeps reminding me that fast food & BBQ shouldn't mix. When I think of BBQ, I think of a biiiig smoker outside of a dingy restaurant that's making killer homemade hot sausage, fall apart tender brisket, pork, & ribs. I ordered the burnt end bowl. The burnt ends were tender & the beans had a nice smoky flavor. But, it was obviously cooked a while before it was plated & I didn't feel like I was eating something prepared just for me. Tried BEBBQ the other day with some co-workers. I usually hit Joe's, Jack Stack, but I have also tried several lesser known spots. This caught my eye and was close to our office. First, it's really clean inside. They have some outdoor seating, but they were set for 2. We pulled up a 3rd chair but it's not really set up for 4 or more outside. I just happened to be there on one of the nicest days of the year, Monday, Sept. 10th - outdoor seating not a big deal soon. Our party ordered the half chicken, a burnt end mac and cheese bowl, and 1/4 pound brisket and 1/4 pound burnt ends. Plus some smoked wings. Sauces were all on the side at a self serve station. Wings were very good. Crispy and plump. No skinny wings here. Some ranch on the side is a nice complement. Burnt ends were very good. Tender, moist, and smoky. The brisket was just okay - too thin which is a bit of an issue for me. Thin brisket usually means it's lost moisture and seized up. The other dishes looked pretty tasty and the bowls are a good idea if you don't mind all of your food in one dish. Overall, I was satisfied, but hope to try a fresher brisket next time.
