Call it 3.5 Ate here on a Thursday evening. We sat outside as we decided to bring our dog with us. I love that it's an option and they are dog friendly. The server was great to our Boxer and brought over a dish of water right away. The server was great. It was really slow outside and we were one of just 3 tables, which may have something to do with it. However, our waters were refilled before they were emptied, she quickly cleaned up the table when my son dumped his lemonade, and she even offered us a free appetizer that we didn't know we were eligible for (based on a promotion they were running and the total from our bill). I think her name was Dina. She was great. The food, overall, was good. Overpriced, but good. I don't really mind paying a few dollars more if I'm getting quality. I had the farmhouse burger which was cooked spot on and was very flavorful. Not loaded down with sauces and junk. The tomatoes they put on it were soggy and mushy (now I'm being a little bit picky). My wife had the fish tacos and loved them. We also shared the beat and kale salad which was great. And the spinach dip is very good. It actually tastes like spinach, not cheese. The sweet potato fries were kind of soggy, which is unfortunate because they ones that were crispy were very tasty. It took a bit longer than I would have expected for our food to come out, which isn't a problem when you aren't in a hurry but it's worth noting because some people have an issue with this. And they definitely were not at capacity, so if the place is packed, I would be prepared. Also, not a fault of the restaurant itself, but the parking in Delray Marketplace is scarce and crowded if you are trying to actually park close to where you want to go. We went to Burt & Max's after meeting Burt in NY at the James Beard House. We loved the unique menu that it had with the short ribs, and other glutinous items that are usually part of a bar themed menu. Burt & Max's definitely has more of a casual feeling that is good for families, groups, and just overall comfortable. They have a woodfired oven which was pretty nice addition to the menu since many of the items could be made in the oven. We were seated right near the oven and the kitchen which normally I wouldn't enjoy, but I loved the view of all the food coming out and being able to see the inner workings of everything going on. Get the Heirloom Tomato & Local Burrata! This dish had the taste of summer in it! It was so refreshing. The texture of the burrata was perfect because it broke apart and released all the cream as soon as you cut into it. The balsamic glaze added exceptional flavor to the extremely fresh tomatoes. The tomatoes tasted as though they were hand picked off a tomato plant a second before they were served. Definitely a winning dish! If only words could describe the Onion Soup Dumplings. I love soup dumplings normally, but have never had fried ones, and especially onion ones! We were instructed by the waitress to make sure to put the whole dumpling in our mouth all at once, or otherwise we would end up losing all the soup. Glad we listened! The melted cheese and surrounding onion soup broth really soaked into each dumpling and gave it that extra added flavor. This dish was definitely a unique and different take on French onion soup because it turned French onion soup into individual bite size dumplings with all the same flavor as a whole French onion soup. This is definitely winner of all soup dumplings! The Short rib empanadas were very tasty and enjoyable, but not as unique and interesting as the other items we ordered. It is pretty rare to feel that empanadas are the less exciting item on the table, but all the other appetizers were just that good. They definitely had a good helping of short rib, and were definitely savory. The Slow Braised Beef Short Ribs were served with Whipped potatoes, bacon brussel sprouts, pearl onions, and wood roasted mushrooms, in a red wine mushroom jus. We had the red wine mushroom jus on the side because my fiancé is allergic to mushrooms. With or without the red wine mushroom jus, this dish was exceptional. The meat was extremely tender and shredded easily with a fork. The vegetables and the mashed potatoes were deliciously flavored. I loved the mushrooms in the sauce! I was happy that they were not pureed into a sauce, but actually were whole mushrooms to bite into. I am deprived of mushrooms because of my finance's allergy and we share all of our meals out. When I get to have mushrooms it is definitely a special occasion :) These ones were definitely great mushrooms! The Mahi Tacos 'A La Plancha were served with Salsa verde, aji crema, shredded cabbage, pickled onion, jalapeno and carrots, fire roasted salsa. These tacos were spicy and refreshing at the same time. The jalapeños, and pickled onion mix clashed in a good way because the spicy was mixed with a pickled flavor. The only negative to this dish was that we were dining as a group of 4 people, and they only brought 3 tacos to the table. The waitress should have warned us of this, and asked if we wanted to order one extra taco so we all could have one. After it arrived at the table we asked the waitress to put one more taco in so we all could enjoy. We were then left waiting for it to arrive at the table so we could all each the tacos together. Every item on the menu at Burt & Max's was mouth watering and made my eyes larger than my stomach. First experience here. Not impressed. Decor is nice. Menu is overpriced for what they offer and average quality. The lunch specials aren't really a special. $10.00 for a half chicken wrap with fries and a fountain drink. It wasn't even half a wrap. Felt bad for the older gentleman who ordered it. There charging $17 for a footlong beef hotdog. My burger was cooked as i ordered but kinda bland in flavor, not a quality beef. William our server was not attentitive at all. Took our order brought out drinks and never saw him again. Didn't even offer a refil on our tea. Brought our check while we still had food on our plates. If your in the plaza id go to Franks or Shulas even though Shulas is over priced for an average burger. Not worth making a trip for. I will not be back. read more

Burt & Max may never become as famous as Bert & Ernie, but there's a bright future ahead for this airy, attractive, new restaurant and it's inviting menu of tasty, comfort food. The feel of the place is Max's Grille "Light", a little more casual than their famous Mizner Park, Boca landmark. Dined here with the family this week and we all had a hard time deciding what to eat because everything looked so appealing. The burgers and thick steak fries are very good for that all-American meal. The bacon wrapped meatloaf is also a good hearty choice, especially with a side of their winning caramelized cauliflower. The wood roasted chicken wings in a honey ginger glaze were finger licking good. The only disappointment was the lump crab & edamame fried rice which came off rather dry. Other good looking small or large plates included grilled skirt steak, grilled jumbo shrimp, southern fried chicken and waffles and some interesting wood fired pizzas. There's a good sized bar with a Happy Hour, and a large outdoor patio for dining. There's not much restaurant competition yet near the new Delray Marketplace at W. Atlantic and Lyons: But I'm pretty confident, even when the competition arrives, Burt & Max's will remain a thriving area favorite. read more

Awesome! My boyfriend and sat down, next to the kitchen and so we had a great line of site for all the action. Apparently, one of the owners was in, "visiting" and so everyone was on pins & needles. Our waiter was training a new server, so we got the "two for one" deal, and both of them were terrific. The food, however, not so much. I ordered the cheeseburger, medium rare, and it came out well done. I didn't say anything, or send it back, because having been in this industry for well over twenty years, I knew what a stress it could very well cause to my server. However, after I picked up the second half of my cheeseburger, and found a long black hair, hiding beneath it, I did just that. The waiter, upon seeing the hair, seemed quite distressed, as did the fretting manager behind him. Nevertheless, they acted quickly, removing the offending dish, and immediately offering me a new one, which I declined politely. They then profusely apologized and said they would take it off the bill. Further more, they bought me another glass of the fabulous pino noir I was drinking. This was by far, above and beyond, the correct way to handle such an unpleasant situation, and I was greatly impressed. So much so, that we stayed, and ventured out to the patio, where it was "Cigar Night". There was a large party of nearly twenty people sitting at a table, and many others in groups of two, or more, were scattered about the bar, and surrounding tables. There was only one bartender, also attending to all the tables, thus doing two jobs, and I must tell you, very, very well. The large party was a group of rather obnoxious, and by this time, intoxicated individuals, whom I had watched for nearly ten minutes with disdain as they loudly disrupted the otherwise peaceful atmosphere. When at last, they decided to leave, the each insisted on "separate checks", which is for ANY server, seasoned, or not, an absolute nightmare. This bartender/server, however, managed, much to my amazement, to handle everything! Not only did she deal with and cash out, this group of drunks, but also took care of all the other tables, AND the people at her bar. She was a rockstar and ANY venue would be lucky to have her on their staff! I wish that I had the names of all the people above whom I've mentioned, but hopefully, if this review actually does find it's way back to upper management, I'm quite sure that they will immediately know of whom I speak. Made a reservation for 7:30 and was nervous about sitting outside so arrived at 6:30 to ask to be accommodated and they said would probably be a little after 7:30. 45 minutes later, nothing so we returned to ask for an update and received nothing. The 3rd person in our party then went up and then eventually said there are 5 more parties ahead of you which at 7:45 probably means another hour. After spending a week in Delray, every restaurant did a better job accommodating a reservation to sit outside. The wait was 45 minutes but within 10 minutes they sat us in the back where we could fit our stroller and. E out of the way. They catered to us with our son and we are so appreciative. Great food all around! Cornbread to start was fresh and warm -- a good butter to go along with the bread. For the entree got the half rack of ribs that came with macaroni and cheese. Both were delicious, but I really enjoyed the Mac and cheese. Made with a Mornay cheese sauce and topped with bread crumbs. Great service as well. A group of high school friends (all 50+) met at this restaurant on a Saturday night. Our reservation was for 8:30 p.m. When we arrived, it was raining heavily and our table wasn't ready because, although they were finished and had paid their bill, they were still seated, waiting out the rainstorm. Additionally, all who were seated at tables outside had to scramble to be seated inside when the weather turned. Acknowledging this, the manager apologized, explained and offered us a round of drinks to make up for the delay. We were finally seated at 3 two-tops pushed together. Had we known, we would have waited for a large round table in a booth, but we made do and noted to ask for it for the "next time." Our drink order was taken promptly. We then gave our order for appetizers and entrees. Two of the appetizers came out right away, followed about 10 minutes later for the balance. I waited for the other appetizers to appear to begin eating my soup. By then, it was cold. However, it was tasty (chicken barley vegetable). I must say that the seafood cipollini was excellent -- lovely red sauce and well done pasta -- and the serving was huge. Everyone else seemed pleased with his meal (fried chicken and broiled fish fillet are all I can recall). This place is not for me. I am too old, it was too late to eat and it is too noisy! Very underwhelming in general. Food was decent, but not extraordinary, and very overpriced. My cocktail (The Cure) was not the cure for anything--watery and unimpressive. Best thing at our table was the chicken and waffle, but could have used a small side veg for a little contrast to the fat and starch (greens, corn?). Then there was the terrible service--we only ordered entrees, no appetizers or desserts, and were there two hours....at 6 p.m. on a Tuesday night. Server never asked us if we wanted another round of drinks, he never came back to check on our food, and it took forever to get the check. And yeah, if you don't want to have dinner with the friendly flies, don't eat outside. A shame, since they have a nice patio, but it's pretty unbearable to be constantly swatting them away when you are trying to eat. So many people told me to try this place and I was so excited to finally go there.... The worst service ever! I couldn't believe how terrible this place was. It killed it for me. I absolutely love max's grille in mizner but Dennis max need to change management or something. The hostess was rude I waited forever for the waiter and he didn't bring our drinks until we were half way through our appetizer. Two use teas and two diet cokes- is that hard. Also you can forget about a refill on my ice tea. I got the chopped salad which was not made to my specifications and it was an infant sized portion of the one at max's grille. And to make it worse I was with coworkers so I didn't want to complain infrint of them. The service killed it - I shudder to think of returning. I had the South Western a Chicken Salad which was fine enough but a little pricy at $16. I also had a side of the Mac n Cheese which was fabulous. I did not have a reservation which I get it during pandemic times it's difficult as everyone is doing their best to maintain social distancing and etc.. but the hostess showed zero effort in getting us a table didn't even give me an option for a wait, when I asked her she then said Awee it will be about an hour or so as she stroked her hair and looked at me like I had 5 heads! I will def not recommend this restaurant neither will I be coming back due to the lack of professionalism a d effort I was offered a booth that had no space for the stroller when I specifically asked for a tbl with space for the stroller. Love this place, great atmosphere and smells like a camp fire. Inside and out dining service. Our waitress was very attentive and always had a smile. Let me start by saying I'm pregnant and very picky:) I will definitely be coming back. Food and service were great. To be honest my husband and I went there because I read online that they had French onion soup dumplings. There's a restaurant in Denver that had these and I love them so I went to the restaurant strictly for these. I must say after receiving them I was disappointed we did send them back but the rest of the food that we had made up for dumplings. We split The Mediterranean appetizer which had a great portion of different dips which were phenomenal. Then we split their classic mozzarella pizza. My husband and I were incredibly happy with the crust in the sauce. This will be satisfying my pizza cravings for sure I have to make mention of the incredible service. Jose was our server and we were incredibly impressed with how professional and courteous he was. I asked where the restroom was and he insisted on escorting me. You just don't find manners like that anymore. He checked on us multiple times and before leaving he was congratulating me because I am very clearly pregnant. I just went to Burt and Max tonight with an out of town guest. I was extremely disappointed with the service. I asked for a straw and didn't get it. I asked for sweetener for my ice tea and had to ask multiple times. I asked for a refill of my iced tea and didn't get it. I asked for ketchup for my burger and didn't get that either. I was very nice each time I asked for the above things. Then I said "excuse me" to the waitress to try to get the items (at that point my food was getting cold) and she was quite far away and she "yells ok ok you don't have to yell". Then the manager stops by to ask how everything was and I tell him I'm disappointed in the service and he wants to give me dessert. I tell him I don't eat dessert and so he quickly leaves after saying to me well you have the ice tea and ketchup now. Quite rude in my opinion! I know it's season now and restaurants are booming but for those of us who frequent your restaurant year round you should be cognizant how you treat customers. Burt and Max lost me as a customer tonight. When season ends, it is customers like me who support this restaurant and keep business running throughout the summer months. Found it amusing there is a review from someone else who had to deal with the flies inside. The food was mediocre. Three of us had Fish Tacos. The tortilla tasted stale. The fish was dry and bland. The presentation of the dish was nice but it made eating difficult. The tacos are messy and there is no room on the plate to deal with it. The best part of the dish was the sauce but it quickly overpowered everything else. One of our party had a chicken dish that was also dry, chewy and had to be sent back. The string beans were just really odd, just inedible. The Margarita looked good on the menu but when it arrived it tasted like your standard cheap margarita made with sour mix and not real limes. Over all I got the impression that the food was all frozen to start with then cooked way too fast leading to the bland taste and odd texture. Only one in our party of 6 enjoyed their meal. The staff and management did try their best to make it right and were very attentive so points for that. I'm putting it down to a bad night as they were packed. Would give them another shot but am cautious. read more
