I'm new to the Twin Cities area and was seeking out a chill place to get beer on a Friday evening after the work week. Busters could not have been a better place to do that. I like Buster's, and I'll go there again and again. I have friends in the neighborhood, and the place does a good job with beer. But even three stars seems generous to me because I am underwhelmed by the food. I am amazed that people rave about the fries and chips here. I've had the chips at Buster's probably a dozen times. They were overcooked 11 of those 12 times. That's no lie. Well actually, I can't say how many times for sure I've had chips there--at least ten times--but I can say with certainty that I've had good chips there ONCE. Look, people, frying things is not hard, and if you really want to get it right you can! The thing you fry should not be browned 'til it's bitter, nor should it be greazy or limp. This is remedial cooking! Get the temperature right, keep your oil clean, and don't keep stuff in there too long. It's not hard. And the turnover of cooks at this place is not bad. There is no excuse for them overcooking these chips 90% of the time. Either they don't care, or they think overcooked chips are good. As for the fries, I'd say about the same thing. There are plenty of places in Minneapolis (Barbette, for example) where they know how to make fries. But Buster's fries are overcooked, limp, greazy, wet brown things. Again, if you are a restaurant and want to make good fries, it is easily doable. You have everything you need. You just have to want it. As for the rest of the food at Buster's, it's okay bar food. Things tend to be greasy, but it isn't a nightmare. I can get a good walleye sandwich there almost any time, long as I ignore the "tomato" if it's between October and June. The staff are mostly very nice. I feel sorry to be rough on the place, because it is a comfortable, happy, friendly, neighborhood pub. I only wish I had a similar place in my neighborhood on the other side of town. But you know, if you do a half-assed job frying things, then I assume everything else you do food-wise is a little half-assed too. If Mike is working, ask him about the photos on the south wall of the mural that used to adorn the same wall when this place was the naugahyde-boothed Lake Inn. In conclusion, I enjoy going to Buster's but I don't go out of my way for the food. And they do have a good beer list. They really have it together, beer-wise. read more

I love this place! I know it's only a burger place but it's the only place I eat burgers. The bison burger is what's up!

This is a pretty nice chill bar. The atmosphere was really good. The staff were really nice and welcoming. I order the steak sandwich with the house chip, was really delicious. I definitely would recommend that meal. I love it. Plus I seen the bar on food network dines dive and drives, and guy was not lying that sandwich was great. This spot has a gorgeous interior with plenty of booth and bar space. The menu is unique and the service was fast and friendly. Meal prices are around $12-14. I got the veggie Mac and cheese panini and my dining partner got the kielbasa muscles. Fully recommend this spot for their ambience, service, and food. read more

This is my neighborhood bar. I'm not going to lie, when I was looking at houses in this area one of the criteria I had (of many) was walking proximity to Busters. I scored with a decent 4 1/2 blocks away! Beer selection is phenomenal but they have some very underrated food as well. As a staple I usually get the homemade chips or the Magic Hat #9 battered Onion Rings (a cross section of my arteries could confirm this). Nothing better than some salty/fried goodness paired with some Hoppy greatness to wash it down. The Bison burger is great. Not in the mood for a burger, try a sandwich or a pizza (I'm a big fan of the Murphy's stout braised beef sandwich). Come for the beer, stay for the grub. read more

Yahoo - they've reopened! A lightening strike caused a fire that closed this neighborhood gem down for a year. It is finally reopened [July 2014] and is exactly the same. They have an excellent array of tap beers (domestic, imported, and local), prices are great, food is awesome. Go! You won't be disappointed. read more

Two words: Curry Mussels. Okay, two more words: sourdough bread. Seriously, I didn't know what to expect of this place - and even less so when I saw it from the outside - but I'd perused the menu prior to showing up for happy hour with a friend and the curry mussels stood out to me. We ordered our Minnesota beers (many of which are on tap during HH) and decided to split the $10 "small plate"...which was in no way small and perfect for sharing. The heaping bowl of mussels and absolutely addicting curry broth made our eyes light up and we nearly fought over the last piece of sourdough to sop up that delicious broth. Fortunately, the waiter came by and asked if we wanted more bread. I almost cut him off, my "YES PLEASE" response was so immediate. I never did bother to check the bill and see if we were charged extra or anything - but it was worth it. Without extra bread, we'd be eating it like soup - or straight up lapping it out of the bowl with our tongues. Did I mention the curry mussels? What else can I say about this place...seems like a local joint (despite the fact that it had closed for awhile and only somewhat recently reopened) and the menu is mostly run-of-the-mill but with a few surprises (like the curry mussels or the bison burger, for example). One oddity was the Elian Gonzalez sandwich. It's a Cuban, so I get it, but none of the other menu items are named after anybody...they're all exactly what you'd expect! Curry Mussels! Bison Burger! So why try to be clever (or maybe offensive? I don't even know) with this particular sandwich? Just my two cents! Overall, I know I'll be back. For the mussels. read more

Can a person get a lager in this place or not? :) The place is clean, and THAT is the best thing about this place. the food is OK, but everything here is pricey for what you get. Yes, they have lots of beers to choose from, but again, the price is high and 99% of the beers are ales. Sorry, but there is more to beer than an ale. This place is amazing for beer, but not necessarily for food...depends on what you get. I'm not at all a fan of their wings or burgers. Booorrrrring! The calamari used to be good, but now they changed their batter and it's not crispy enough. The mussels with salmon are amazing though! First time in MN and I yelped it and this place came up and I'm here ready to eat- I will most definitely come back! Service was great- from, seating, to waitress (Erin) recommending beer and food! The draft beer list is amazing for a 18 ish table restaurant bar with a bar area! 0ver 30 craft beers on tap. They have happy hr and MN beers are $2 off ( I started with the Fulton 300) thumbs up. And they have beer flights! They were featured on Diners, drive-in and dives. I had their signature Steak sandwich on a fluffy bun from the local bakery next door. Delicious. I really like Buster's for the various reasons others have stated. Great beer choices, good food, and a great neighborhood spot. Great happy hour specials. I can't even remember what I had, but it cost $3 and it wasn't Miller Lite (not that there's anything wrong with that). Bottom line, check it out.. Misses the 4th star for what seems to be constant sub par service. I gave them the benefit of the doubt while they were still "new" but it still always seems slow, and a little less than friendly. Today, we ordered the normally tasty calamari. The three of us all thought it tasted horrible-overcooked, and the breading was nonexistent. We brought this to our server's attention. I know our delivery was a little off (we are passive-aggressive Minnesotans), but even though we said "This is doesn't taste right and we'd like to send it back and get something else" the server just kind of stood there waiting for us to explain ourselves more. She never apologized and after about a minute of awkward banter, she did return it and we got a yummy basket of chips/salsa/guacamole. But, I think if diners are at all unhappy with their food, you should work to fix the problem and not make the diners feel awkward and bad for bringing it up in the first place! read more

Went here five years ago and vowed to not return. It's in the neighborhood so a month ago I returned and everything was amazing. Went back tonight and again I'm vowing not to return. Fantastic bison burger made with bits of bacon in it topped with blue cheese. One of the best burgers I have ever had. Local bakery buns. Awesome sweet potato fries. Very generous portions. Great atmosphere. Clean and not too loud. FANTASTIC Staff! Our waitress was very helpful in ordering, friendly, and patient as we changed our minds a few times. Great neighborhood pub! So glad we tried it. Their burgers are awesome and their beer list is equally if not more impressive. I had the the bison burger with sweet potato fries and would absolutely get both again. Tip: ask for the pickle aioli on the side! They blend the bison meat with bacon, and it is incredible without the aioli. It is also incredible with the aioli, but nice to have the option if you are a meat lover like me :) My boyfriend ordered the Gyro burger and that was also delicious. I honestly don't think you can go wrong any of their burgers or sandwiches. I don't understand why this place doesn't get more hype in the Twin Cities burger arena, but I'm okay with that. This place has such an awesome beer menu, it is quite impressive. The beers are great and they have good descriptions so you know what to expect. The food is also great for this being a pretty casual place. The wings are fantastic and they have some really great pizzas and salads. I'd recommend and frequent this place often! read more

Yummy. Went to Busters last Thursday and had just about the best bison burger I've had to date. It was super juicy, yet crisp on the outside. How do they get that yummy crustiness? Also, the french silk pie? Do not go home without having a slice. It's devilishly good. And, um... the beer selection is pretty killer. read more

Oh Buster's how I love you so. If you are looking for a burger/beer joint with fabulous food and a huge selection of brews, stop right now, you've found it! I've loved Buster's since the first time I went there, crazily, looking for fish and chips. Hah!!! The joke was on me. The waitress talked me into a burger and I've never looked back. Now I get the Buster Burger, warm, moist, tasty, yum. Try the chips with homemade onion dip, OMG it's soooo good. Try a new beer. Excellent, extensive beer selection. Food is consistently above average for pub food or really good, depending on how hungry you are and/or how many beers you've had. Space is pretty cramped, though. Very packed about two-thirds of the time we've tried to eat there. But overall, great place, especially for lunch or a drink while biking or playing around at nearby lakes Nokomis and Hiawatha. read more

I happened to be driving home during lunch and saw this place and decided to stop. I had the Walleye Ruben. It was really good, but too much bread so I removed the top of the sandwich and ate it open faced. I ordered Onion rings with the sandwich. They were sweet and good but too greasy.
