Butcher Bar is the bomb! Let me reiterate that this place has some of the best tasting barbecue meats and side dishes that I have consumed in a long time. I am currently having dinner somewhere else and would have gone to Butcher Bar if I had the energy to go to Astoria Queens at this hour!-lol. That is a true testament to exactly how fantastic the food is.... I went there recently to have some of their famous Double Smoked Beef Burnt Ends. When I arrived, the lovely Bartender Julian informed me that they were sold out of Burnt Ends for the evening....I thought "Oh No! What am I going to do without being able to order and eat Burnt Ends?-lol I had to think fast, so Julian recommended Smoked Pulled Pork. Wow, the Smoked Pulled Pork consisted of juicy succulent pork meat smothered in a mesmerizing barbecue sauce!!!! I licked my lips and fingers several times as I ate..... When you check in on Yelp, your side order is free! I had Cornbread w/ Honey Butter...it was hot and fluffy. Oh the creamy, sweet honey butter.....Julian was also kind enough to bless me with a slice of their Grand Mas Cake which was drizzled in Caramel Sauce!!! I enjoyed every bite! I just want to thank Julian for being so gracious, kind and hospitable. He was working hard behind the bar!!! How I wish there was a Butcher Bar in Brooklyn! We came her on a Saturday afternoon many but around 5pm there was no wait . We had the mac and cheese appetizer which was delicious!!! And we had the queso which was blah (so-so) . The drinks were superb I had the berry good time and my fiancé had the Texas cooler. I had a bacon burger which arrived to me without bacon after informing the Waitress she apologized and gave me the option of getting a whole new burger which would take 20 min or a side of bacon which will take 5 mins of course I chose the side of bacon but by the time it came out I was over it I could barely fit the bacon in the burger my bread started getting soggy. My fiancé had the 50/50 burger he said he liked it he also said that the beans and coleslaw were good. When we arrived the presented the waitress that we checked in through yelp and got a free side we each checked it so we each got a free side however on the bill only one came off, but to rectify the situation the waitress gave us two free moonshine shots valued at 7$ each so we didn't make a big deal for the 4.99 that the fries cost. Such a great small restaurant in Astoria! The employees here look so happy and are the nicest workers I've ever encountered! The music was great, loud enough to jam low enough to listen to my boyfriend. The beef platter was amazing loved how they didn't put sauce on it and I was able to do that myself. I'm absolutely obsessed with their brussel sprouts it was sooo delicious I must learn the recipe!!! I however am giving it a 4 star because while the steak was soft and easy to cut into it had no seasoning and lacked flavor. For 30 dollars I would expect it to be super flavorful and juicy. The key lime pie was just pudding with graham crackers on it too. I will still be coming back however because those burnt beef ends were fire ! read more

Ordered the hard pink lemonade and Dulce Vida margarita which just so happens to be my favorite tequila. We went overboard with the food though...our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. 2 orders of scrambled eggs with burnt ends, one with mild cheddar cheese. They both came with home fries, salad and toast. Thennnnnn we ordered a side of pancakes, another order of meat candy, & corn bread with honey butter. FYI the brunch entrees comes with a free mimosa, coffee, tea, juice and other options I can't remember. Read the brunch menu I added. Went here on a rainy Wednesday with our Boston terrier after a vet appointment and was craving for some brisket, knowing that this place is close by, we decided to just eat here. Went to the hostess and asked her if its OK to have our dog with us, she said it's fine as long as she stays on the floor which is fine ofcourse. My wife went to the restroom and then this bald guy went to our table yelling at me that dogs are not allowed in the establishment choosing to de-escalate it old ok, let me just wait for my wife. He told me that I NEED get out, I said fine. Was not in the mood to eat there anymore after what happened, but then he decided to yell at us telling us that "we should know better" and "dogs are illegal inside a restaurant" like really? We just asked your hostess if we can go in with our dog. At this point my wife was panicking to find our service dog certificate, but i decided to just let it go.Pour your anger towards your hostess for letting us in not to customers who asked permission in the first place He proceeded to yell at us like we did a crime or something, jesus, a little hospitality would go a long way, let us know in a nice way and it wouldn't be an issue. I wanted to order another portion but we had already ordered our entrees. I ordered the platter of 1/4 of burnt ends and 1/4 brisket. It came with pickles, cole slaw, 2 pcs of corn bread and side of chouce. I choose the string beans with bacon and onions. It was amazing but a little small for the price. My friend had the regular burger (can't remember the name) she said it was one of the best she has tasted. We both had the mixed berry drink which was AMAZING!!! Then we ordered the grandma's apple cake. It was warm and gooey but nothing I would order again. I haven't been back here for a while and last night we walk over, because I didn't want to drive to Jackson Hole. We got a seat right away and a good separation in between tables, our server was very nice. We just wanted a nice burger and a beer and that was it. The place smells so good I couldn't wait to get my food. we order a Mac & Cheese and Smoked Burger, side of fries, because the burgers don't come with any, one soda and one beer thats it $57.67 $10 bucks tip $ 67.67 here how it when, $4.99 for a draft soda, $5.00 for cold fried in a appetizer plate another $7.00 for a draft beer. Burgers were $18.00 bucks each. Well ....$17.99. They use that meat that grass feed beef and leave a dry taste in your mouth, so I really didn't enjoy as much as I thought I would. I ask for no coleslaw, got it on my burger. The meat had a dry taste to it I didn't like that at all. I don't like to return food back. We waited a while for the burgers and they were cold., so was the fries so that was disappointing. They have great appetizers and I had a few before, but we just wanted a nice burger. My friend like his burger, but we both agree we liked Jackson Hole much better. I don't understand why it was so dry tasting we were hungry and it was 7-8pm so we just ate and left. I don't think I will be returning to this place any more. I just feel the prices are high for what it is. Came here for some dinner on a beautiful weekend day. The streets were crowded and the place was popping, but we were able to be seated (3) right away without a reservation. We all ordered some cocktails, I had the Austin Martini which was delicious. My friends loved their margaritas. We each ordered the meat tray. My boyfriend and I shared one, but also with an order of pork belly and it was just enough food for us. The burnt ends were by far the best part of the dish. Their mac and cheese is also crazy delicious. The cole slaw left a little to be desired, and the pork belly was just okay. My husband and I came here on a Friday night and surprisingly, it wasn't too packed. There's a parking lot a block away which is convenient given how quickly the parking can fill up around the area. We were able to be seated right away and the service was quick and excellent. We ordered a beer each and they were out in what felt like 2 minutes. We ordered the Meat Candy, or burnt ends, which is their specialty-- very tender, lots of flavor, and definitely worth it. My husband ordered the St Louis-style ribs which he said were pretty okay & could have been meatier. I've eaten there 5 or 6 times over the years, and while it never blew me away as being incredible bbq, it was decent enough to return now and then, though overpriced. Tonight, we ordered on Seamless. The food was embarrassingly bad. Dry, old brisket with no flavor (at around $36/lb!!) Pulled pork tasted like it came out of yesterday's refrigerator. Fried pickles were dry and leathery. Fries were cold and soggy. Burnt ends were not bad. They literally served us over $100 of inedible food, most of which went into the trash. Guys, come on. Be better. The menu had lots of choices including meat platters, salads, and burgers/sandwiches. My friends and I decided to split the platter which came with choice of three meats (we did pulled pork, pulled chicken and beef brisket) and three sides (chose Mac & cheese, cheese fries and bacon Brussels sprouts). The BBQ Chicken butcher bowl was delicious, exceeded what I was expecting. Flavors hit all the taste buds. The sweet tea tasted like sweet tea...the end. And for dessert the banana pudding was out so it had to be good; but the lady called me to switch to either bread pudding or the apple cake. I asked what the bread pudding tasted like because I didn't know and she said I'll put both in there and you can try it out. I know, I know, I am rating Butcher Bar only 3 stars, while it is a decent option all I can say is that once you've had the likes of Hometown and Fette Sau or Mighty Quin's, this one just doesn't compete. The House Dry Rubbed Ribs, had a nice flavor and while the meat came off the bones with ease, they were on the dry side. The Gimme The Beef platter included brisket and burnt ends. Again the brisket was kind of dry and definitely needed some sauce to make it more enjoyable. The absolute star were the burnt ends, they were juicy and tender and just delicious. Something else to note, was that the meats were missing that smokiness that you get from other BBQ joints. Both dishes were served with coleslaw (a bit too wet and mushy), pickles, cornbread (kind of dense and bready) and choice of side. The sides were great, the mac & cheese was creamy and wonderful; the Brussels Sprouts with bacon were very tasty. The apple cake offered to us at the end of the meal was actually fantastic; light and delicious. Also from the options that i had the food was so fresh and i was content with the fact there was delicious BBQ nearby. Food is terrible, the brisket looks and tastes like it's made in a crockpot, no bark at all the brisket is brown? Dry no smoke ring. I don't think they actually smoke anything or else there would be some type of bbq taste or look but nothing. Very disappointing you want actual smoke house bbq go somewhere else. What happened? Did I miss something? I used to frequent this place all the time with my friends and family when I lived in Astoria. The meat was tender and juicy, the side dishes were always hard to pick because they were THAT good. After craving Butcher Bar while in town after a long stretch away (due to the pandemic), I stopped by and had pulled chicken with a few sides. The chicken, unfortunately, was unbelievably dry and full of pink pieces :( I tried but ultimately decided I couldn't eat it. And the side of beets -- anise, in southern food??? Say what?? That was such an odd surprise and didn't make me feel that Southern homecookin' feel I had in previous visits. Anyhow, after coming here to see if I missed something, I'm even more disappointed to see the response by management to some of their paying customers. I didn't expect a comp on my meal (didn't ask for one and didn't get it) even though I didn't really touch my food, but now I see why it wasn't even offered ... the staff probably deals with toxic management who would be off-with-their-heads if they did. 2 stars for the really nice servers, but since it doesn't look like my returning would matter, no need to then. I ordered up the Monster - a sizable sandwich filled with 1/2 pulled pork 1/2 brisket...all nomlicious! The bbq sauce was great, the meat was plentiful, with plenty of side/condiments (slaw, onions, pickles, the works). I also ordered a side of cornbread, which wasn't too shabby - a little bit moist (for it not being of the more-pudding-type variety), but still very tasty. Butcher Bar was pretty underwhelming. It looked so good with it being so busy, smelling so good, and being pretty high rated on Yelp. But my experience here was pretty bad.... First it took forever for them to simply just take people's names down for reservations. Me and my boyfriend were waiting in line just to put our names down for 10-20 minutes. While the manager was yelling at her workers and the environment just seemed so poorly managed and stressful. They did want to make sure they could seat us as it was 2 hours before close so I thought that was considerate. But they would not give us a time of how long the wait would be. When we finally sat down after waiting for about 45 minutes, were weren't given any utensils or glasses of water. I was slightly dying because I was so thirsty and had to ask the waiter for water. We ordered porky's platter and dry rubbed beef ribs. Unfortunately, we could not get the raved for "burnt ends" because it was sold out. I also got a side of regular fries and brussel sprouts. The two things I liked most was the brussel sprouts and the pork belly (only some pieces I really liked) Everything else was kind of dry and pretty bland and super disappointing. I didn't even like the simple fresh-cut fries because it was so tasteless and SO NOT FRESH (it was cold and soggy). The thing that really ticked me off was that the manager decided to seat us but then right when it was 11 (closing) they shut the lights off for the outdoor seating even though there were multiple groups of people in the middle of there meals. I thought that was so rude because we literally just got our food 10 minutes before. Most restaurants have a specific time that they will close the kitchen (like 30-45 minutes before) so that they will not have to do this to people. But, at the very least a waiter should just tell us that they are closing and need us to leave instead of passive aggressively telling us to leave by shutting the light off. read more
