5 stars for service ! Our waiter was incredibly friendly and warming! 3 stars for food ... I was spoiled by Texas bbq and had an expectation with the burnt ends which is know as their best seller. Little did I expect the burnt ends to be dry and lack flavor. The brioche bun that came with it was lightly toasted. Cole slaw and pickles were great sides. The corn bread was a nice treat. My boyfriend had the 50/50 which we thought it was dry as well. So for both sandwiches we used their bbq sauce which we thought was delicious. Lastly, we finished with their apple cake in which most yelpers agree with that it was good. read more

This place caught me by surprise. After living in the south for many years I was skeptical of bbq in NY but this place is very solid. The burnt ends are literally like candy and are so good!! The butchers banh mi was really good too. Ribs were tasty, pulled chicken was flavorful, pulled pork wasn't too fatty, brisket was ok, but overall really good experience ordering from here. I recommend the sweet & spicy bbq over the original though both are good. Would order from here again! read more

We were craving BBQ and thought this would be the place to go--I got the half a rack of sauced ribs with mac and cheese as a side and he got the blue plate with brisket, fries, and mashed potatoes. He asked for some of the fatty brisket, but the waitress said they only served lean brisket (which is unfortunately if you wanted to have a choice). We then thought about getting something else--the waitress suggested the burnt ends because that's what they are known for. She said she could provide them as in an appetizer size. The burnt ends were worth it. I would say though out of both of our meals, I would come back for the fries and mac and cheese--not the meat. I wonder if I asked for dry ribs, I would have had a different experience--the sauce was salty and did not go well with the ribs. read more

My BF and i ordered the Butcher's Platter and Buffalo wings for an appetizer. Brisket and pulled pork were good. Buffalo wings were excellent just enough heat "for me." Mac was pretty to look at. A popular and crowded spot on weekends and most weekday nights, but rightfully so. Not much room to wait though. Indoor decor is appropriate for the bbq/bar scene. Came here a couple of times and ordered the platter, which is very filling (I always need to bring home the leftovers no matter how hungry I arrive). Warning: if you come here with a Groupon, you cant order the ribs or steak entrees (or the pork platter since it has ribs in it). Well, technically you CAN order them but it just wouldnt count toward the Groupon amount. Just a fyi read more

There is nothing better in Astoria in this type of food. Not sure if anything on the menu comes close to the burnt ends. They are amazing and addictive. I live the brisket as well and whenever I am on diet I would go for the chicken, but the burnt ends are very likely one of the best meats in Astoria, and this includes gems from Souvlaki to Halal to Kebabs on Steinway. Can't recommend this more ! read more

The staff is friendly, and attentive. The menu prices, are very reasonable. It wasn't crowded, and I got my food kinda fast. The Meat Candy Burnt Ends are a popular choice for appetizer. It definitely tasted better with the sauce. I was suprised at how good the creamy Mac & Cheese were. It was on point. The Smoked BBQ sandwich was very good as well. read more

3.5 stars. Good BBQ and good service, though nothing really stood out for me here. I came by on a Sunday night with friends, and it was a nice dinner out. -House Dry Rubbed Ribs: the famous Sauced Ribs were already sold out when we came around Sunday 6pm so we decided to try the dry rub instead. Meat was smoky and tender, but definitely needed additional sauce on the side to kick it up a notch. -Animal Burger: juicy and tasty, but not memorable in flavor. In a week's time, I probably wouldn't be able to describe the burger to you...but I can say that the sauce in it was delicious! The menu mentioned that this burger is "Always cooked Medium Well", but we had the option to cook it differently if we liked. -Smoked and Fried Wings (with Sweet & Spicy Sauce): the smoked and fried combo sounded amazing on the menu, but tasted like solid, average wings in reality. I couldn't really taste the "smokiness" in them. -Sides: Mac and cheese was rich and creamy and the coleslaw/pickles was a light and refreshing side to pair with all the meat. If you order the cornbread as a side, it's sooooo much softer and more moist than the cornbread that comes with the Butcher's Platter (they're probably the leftover edges). Loved the honey butter as well. Staff here was very friendly and offered a complimentary warm apple cake at the end of our meal. It's practically cornbread once again, but topped with powdered sugar and a drizzle of apple syrup. Nice sweet way to end the meal. read more

Came here for dinner last night and it was only ok. Service was a little slow but it was obvious there was only one waitress for the entire restaurant for about an hour. Eventually another showed up. I got the sauced ribs which were pretty blah. The bbq sauce was nothing special. The fried pickles were good but a bit over breaded. The Brussels sprouts were absolutely amazing though like I would go back just to get them. They were so good read more

Great draft selection. During brunch happy hour, ALL their draft beers are $6. We ordered 1/2 lb of burnt ends with a side of fries and salad. The burnt ends were delicious with a perfect balance of lean and fat. The texture was very soft. It was probably marinated prior. I'd day skip the fries and salad. The fries were extremely salty. The side salad was just a waste of money. I really enjoyed the bbq with beer. Service was very friendly. They have nice outdoor seating. read more

Came to Butcher Bar again after a few months and holy crap everything we ordered was absolutely FANTASTIC!!!! Burn ends delicious! The pork belly was cooked to perfection. For 2 large appetites we got the butcher's platter (includes 3 meats) + 2 extra meats and side of corn sticks/bread. -grilled chicken: surprisingly very very good! a lot of flavor. would actually recommend. -brisket: alright. I ordered take out last weekend and was charged on my card for $77 despite the bill coming out to be $69. Not sure if the numbers were punched in wrong or what happened. I was also missing something within my order and was told that they would make adjustment to the order and refund me the amount that night, but nothing has come through yet. My first time in person here; my sister and i came with a local friend and a guest from the UK. It was a day of firsts for him, from cornbread to fried pickles. Our British friend was enamored with the BBQ aioli and wistfully hoped it was available for retail (alas!) Our server Christine was absolutely WONDERFUL! Incredibly personable (and funny!), answering questions and making our visit that much more memorable. The food was great (fried chicken too!), and Christine very kindly comped us mini shots of apple cinnamon moonshine - the shot glasses as mementos since our friend couldn't take any sauce with him. I've been living in Astoria for years now, and finally decided to eat at this supposed neighborhood staple. We visited after the dinner rush in a weeknight, and I noticed that our waitress had a friend come into the restaurant, which normally would not be anything to write about. However, after our waitress "took" our order (i.e. tried to memorise it), she then proceeded to have a lengthy conversation with her friend as she was putting our order into the register. So of course, our order came out wrong! She messed up our drink order, forgot to add the extra honey butter for our cornbread, completely forgot an entire entree, and put in the wrong order for ribs. She was completely unapologetic about it, and even had a bad attitude when we pointed out what was missing. Oh, and these ribs... apparently the "Fall of the Bone" St. Louis-style ribs are nothing more than the dry-rub ribs with BBQ sauce poured on top. Anyone with an inkling of barbecue knowledge knows that St. Louis-style ribs are supposed to be finished on the grill with sauce, and not just have the sauce simply poured on the top afterwards. And they certainly were not falling off the bone at all! Horrible waitress and bad bbq ribs. At least the mac & cheese and garlic broccoli were decent - hence 2 stars... read more

I want to like the place, but the brisket and ribs just not pleasing hungry palate, brisket was bland and the ribs was dry! came here on a Friday night w group of 5, wait was long and my friend insisted on waiting, so by the time we got the table 40 minutes later, everybody was starving, and we ordered whole bunch of varieties, my whiskey based drinks were so water down that i can barely taste the whiskey in it, the place is loud, service is brief, we had to hail our servers over couple of times, the only think i remember was decent was the bacon we ordered, that was crispy and delicious! read more

Alert, check the comments of the owner for the reviews tagged as 1 star. It will warn you not to eat here cause if you have a bad experience, the owners are unapologetics. The management here is terrible. I would post my certificate for service dog here but due to privacy purposes, I won't because if you see Kathy's comments to 1 star reviews, she never apologizes and even threatens customers by doing a PM. Look, your husband is rude and looks like you are too now it says a lot about you and it seems like your server who welcomed us is only as stressed for having to work for you guys. Looking at her face when we left being caught offguard not knowing protocols is a reflection of your management. Also, Kathy I think you shouldn't be out here on yelp trying to fight people who gives you feedback, it's meant for you and your team to improve. So take people's comment (good or bad) as a review of your business and not your personality because giving people bad attitude ends up becoming an attack on you and your husband's personality. You win the most unwelcoming and rudest owners. We ordered here several times cause we just like eating brisket and we have no choice when we crave so we order your dry briskets. Also who is this Nicole H who seems to have the same experience as ours and you are also fighting with for receiving a 1 and assuming my husband's girlfriend? Silly Kathy. Really expected this place to be great based on the 4 star rating with over 1,900 reviews plus the hype it was getting from friends that picked it....but it fell short. For starters, the beer I ordered was no longer being served (but was one of the 10 being advertised), the food took almost an hour to come out (the place was probably 1/4 filled. Not busy at all), AND when the food finally did come the order was wrong. So needless to say I was not too happy with the first impression. -Smoke House BBQ Burger: 3/5, it was alright. The burger itself was like any other burger with bbq sauce on it. I've gotten burgers before with pulled brisket or pork on top so I was excited thinking this was the same, it was not. Instead it was two slices of very mediocre brisket slapped on top of the burger. This was my mistake as I thought it would be pulled not sliced. -Beef Brisket: 2/5, honestly shocked at how underwhelming the brisket was here. Very dry, with not much flavor. -Mac & Cheese: 4/5, thankfully this was great and saved the meal. For $6 I had high hopes which were met by this side. Great flavor. Overall, had I gone into this place not knowing about all the hype and hearing everyone rave about it I would've thought it was just another BBQ joint. After eating here though I personally feel that I would not return. The food and the experience were both subpar and I've definitely had much better BBQ food at other spots. Still glad I gave this place a shot though. read more

Why Butcher bar?! I tried you again a couple weeks ago after a very very long time trying you the first time (first time was bad). This time it was amazing. The burnt ends were just as described and the portions were smaller but not nearly as bad as the first time. It was all amazing BUT I ordered nearly the same thing again recently and the burnt ends were inedible (incredibly dry and over cooked not like the amazing tender flavorful time before). I literally had to spit it out. I can't risk spending all of the money to get delivery to have two of the three times I order from you be so inconsistent and a waste of money. No more delivery for me, if I ever try again it will be in the restaurant where I can easily return inedible food. read more

SAVED MY FRIENDSGIVING! These guys truly are wonderful. I had the pleasure of speaking with one of the girls , I believe she may be the owner or manager, but she helped me plan for a short notice catering of 15 people . Meet the Business Owner: Kathy C.

After several years of teaching young children, I became aware of how many of them were obese and their health was being effected directly from their food intake. Next came "Food Inc." This was the starting point for a journey that has culminated into Butcher Bar. My partners and I wanted to know where our food was coming from. How it was farmed and grown. The idea of an animal's rights became important. No not Orwell's "Animal farm," but a respect for animals that give their lives to feed us. Pasteur raised and fed what nature intended them to eat. We want to know what exactly goes into our food. How it was produced and how it's cooked. You should too!

No... we only have pulled pork and pork ribs for take out. Roast pig is for catering orders only and starts at $500 for a roast suckling pig roasted in our oven. We offer rotisserie pigs and pigs done in a “Caja de China” but both of those options…

The meat here is really tender and the sides absolutely slap. Even if you're coming here with a vegetarian there are solid options - the mac and cheese and cole slaw are my favorites. Also I never thought I'd be okay with paying $7 for pickles but the half sours here absolutely slap. Last time I went here I had the ribs which were huge and tender, and the jalapeno cheddar sausage that I def didn't need but it was so, so good. If you're coming here to watch a popular game, get here early to snag a spot.
