I come to the cape every year with my family and we heard the absolute best things about Butch's. We usually go to Strangers and Saints on our first night out but we heard that this restaurant was all the rage. It might even be our new favorite. My family ordered the deviled eggs, which I got to try and I ordered a cheeseburger with french fries. I had never heard of a restaurant using shredded cheese on a burger so that was a unique experience. It was still good though. I asked for my burger cooked rare and they did just that. The meat was seasoned pretty well and the french fries hit the spot. I ordered two diet cokes that went down FAST and really washed everything down. I was happy with the service and I love that it's an LGBTQ+ owned business. The history of the restaurant is really sweet and I've heard that the owners of the restaurant will even come out to say hi to you if you ask to meet them. Overall it was a great dining experience and I would love to try more items on the menu in the future. read more

We had a great birthday meal at Butch's Crown in the end of July! The salads were divine. The brussel sprout elote salad was super super flavorful and tasty. The chopped italian salad was also really good. We highly recommend the salads! Next we had sandwiches for our meal. The cod bahn mi was very light and refreshing. The burger was massive and also quite tasty. I had the chicken sandwich and it was very good but a little too spicy for me. All the sandwiches came w chips except the burger was served with good fries. For dessert we shared the praline sundae and peach and blackberry cobbler. Both were incredible. Great! Food is very good - the menu does not sound like all that much but every dish was a bit special. Ambiance - nice patio near center of Provincetown. They have an enclosed courtyard. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Prices were quite reasonable. And the cobbler was second only to Bill Neal's at Crooks Kitchen read more

Delicious food and fun entertainment (piano bar!) at Butch's. A welcome addition to PTown. The menu might appear simple but each item I've tried is surprisingly complex and delicious. Chef Kelly has reinvented several classic comfort foods, like an amazing fried chicken sandwich. I wish they'd let you swap chips for French fries on the sandwiches though, or at least be able to order them as a side dish, since they clearly make fries to serve with the burgers. Did brunch here last Sunday. I had the Hangover dish and the biscuit. Both are very delicious. The drag show was incredible!

Good. The avocado salad is the softest, gentlest way to have a salad. The artichoke hearts + feta: yummy. Nice menu. One strangeness: I ordered a cheeseburger. The burger itself was very good. But it arrived with cold, grated cheddar cheese on top. Cold cheese. I asked if they could melt the cheese - and with funny theater, they informed me after checking with the kitchen that they could not in fact melt the cheese. The kitchen turned me down on... melted cheese on top of a burger? It's not rationally a strange question for a guest to ask. It is what I'll remember, though. read more

As local summer residents, we are always excited to patronize a new dining establishment especially one that has a recognized chef. Last evening our table of six had the opportunity to dine at Butch's. As members of the James Beard Foundation, we anticipated the dining experience to be on par with other James Beard winner's venues. Regrettably, we could not have been more wrong. Service was solid, warranting the 2 * versus a 1* rating. Menu was unimpressive, lacking originality and void of any entrees. Lots of fried options and ordinary salads, uninspiring. Our group shared apps, ordered salads and sandwiches. Apps mediocre at best. Tater tots with caviar, a good sized portion of fried standard tater tots, but where is the caviar? Salads primarily contained overdressed iceberg lettuce. Sandwiches served with what appeared to be store bought bag chips. Cod banh mi was abysmal, primarily a far too large roll for the two small, thin pieces of fishy smelling and tasting cod. Crawfish salad was "wet", content insufficient for roll size. Salmon "Reuben", Bagel Hound everything bagel was the highlight of an otherwise lackluster sandwich. Significant opportunity for improvement exists at Butch's. Hopefully constructive feedback is welcomed and remedial action taken as the chef's achievement is applauded. read more

Butch's was the ideal place for a pre-show dinner our last day in Provincetown. A reservation was easily made online and when we arrived we noticed the attentiveness and care of the staff immediately. I chose Butch's because of the "vegetable forward" reference in other reviews. We'd had our fill of Italian American cuisine and Butch's offered an alternative. For three people, we selected ceviche (from a well conceived "raw" menu), smoked fish dip, elote + Brussels sprouts salad, and an entree each. This was nearly the perfect amount of food. The smoked fish dip, with its seemingly lightly fried saltines, was properly seasoned, gently smoky, and had a little zip to it. Everyone was quite pleased and eager for more. The salad was nearly perfect. Substantial enough for three people, but not weighty! The flavors of the main components came through cleanly and the dressing not too acidic (I would suggest serving with some lime wedges for those who want more). The ceviche was light and refreshing. The fish was cut the right size and the seasoning on point. A great "middle bite" between the openers and the mains. Well done! The mains, well, those landed with speed and flavor. My Chicago-style hot dog, which attracted me like a bee to pollen because of associations with summer and the shore, was perfectly cooked, served piled high with generous toppings of tomato, pickle, intensely colored relish, and peppers. The bun was both fluffy and slightly doughy -- as it should be! My partner's crawfish roll was intensely full of crawfish meat! Gloriously perched inside a crisply buttered and grilled bun, the crawfish was delicious and every bite a winner. Our friend's cod banh mi (my initial first choice) touched all the familiar banh mi notes, but with a little New England bass line. Throughout the meal, the staff at Butch's was attentive, friendly, and had great energy. The environment, next to an open patio, is fun and feels connected to the street and to the cabaret vibe. Back to staff: never did a finished plate linger on the table for too long. When we needed help, staff and management caught our look(s) like they had a preternatural sense of when they were needed. Really lovely team work! The dishes were delivered to the table quite quickly, which was appreciated ahead of the show and kept us on schedule enough to add in a dessert. However, on a normal night I would have only minor feedback that the pacing was too rapid between appetizers and mains. Very good experience at Butch's. Attentive staff, great fun menu, and excellent food that set the bar for dining quality on our trip. read more

My wife and I stopped by Butch today and had such an amazing experience. The owner had a rack of retro scratch and sniff stickers and I was picking some out for my kindergarten students (I'm a kindergarten teacher in a Texas public school). He gave more than double the stickers I picked out for free because he said he remembered how much he loved them as a kid himself. Then he gave me a big piggy sticker for every student in my class on top of that. His shop had such great merchandise in it and he was so kind; it's definitely a local business that gives back and anyone should feel good about supporting! read more

Five of us had dinner at Butch's last night. We easily got a table with no reservation for which we were grateful. We ordered the pimento and smoked fish appetizers which were both good. We also had the Brussel/elote salad which was outstanding. Then we had the crab claws which we couldn't eat because they were frozen. The sever was very nice and took them off our bill. I was torn between the burger and the chicken sandwich. The burger comes with fries but they don't melt the cheese on the burger. The chicken comes with chips and the chef will not substitute fries nor let you order them as a side. I asked the server and she said that the chef is very particular about how things are served. I can understand this in a fancy Michelin star rated restaurant, which this isn't. We are talking about a potato and a bit of melted cheese, not much more. My response is that I too am very particular as to where I eat and where I spend my money. In a place like Provincetown where good restaurants abound and where restaurants come and go I would be a little more accommodating. I finally opted for the chicken sandwich which was more breading than chicken and which came with very good potato chips. Three of my friends order the cod Bahn mi which they liked. One friend order the salmon Reuben which she found a little strange but enjoyed it overall. I was curious about the restaurant and I would have tried it sooner or later so I'm glad I went. However, it's a one and done for me. read more
