I absolutely love the staff and food at this fine establishment. When the waiters come over, they ask how your day was and are very energetic. That really makes a difference. The food is great, it really blends with the ambience of the outdoors. I finished the entire plate. I strongly recommend this restaurant.

3.5 stars - I have been here twice now once about a year ago and now present day... I think they lack consistency. The service was eh... I think they run quite short of staff judging my how many tables one server was servicing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is quite nice - I would request patio seating very nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] No specific water views though. The food was okay but for what you spend one expects a bit more. The pork chop was a bit dry. The fish was well prepared but over sauced. Dessert was very good - combined the flourless chocolate cake and to die for toffee with a scoop of vanilla ice cream now that is delicious! If your in the keys and want a nice meal it's a good option but prices are high

A sleeper hidden gem, in the Tranquility Bay resort. Outstanding food, romantic Florida ambiance, and top notch service combine at one of the best restaurants. We sat on the verandah, and had a magnificent dinner, after a long drive, down to Marathon. The pork chops were first rate. The fish was fresh, and perfectly prepared, and the shrimp, and scallops, were rich and buttery. They have a full bar, as well. Not a bad place, at all, for a mid-price resort in the keys!

Came here in vacation after driving from the Miami airport. The setting was really nice, and the food was great. Only one star knock are the prices (around $50 for a main dish). The bread is fresh and warm. I had the tuna special, which was good. For dessert I would recommend the TDF (basically a sticky toffee pudding made with dates). The frozen key lime pie wasn't that great. They also have a kids menu.

The Butterfly Cafe reminds me of something straight out of Sweet Magnolias - the vibe is very southern/relaxed. We had a wonderfully attentive hostess and server. I would go back for the Scallop Risotto again and again! Lovely presentation and phenomenal taste.

I very rarely give 5 star ratings but this restaurant exceeded all my expectations and more. Jasmine our server was the perfect host. All her recommendations were delicious. We had the crab cakes, so good. The seafood bake was bread sopping good; large shrimp and mahi mahi in a light cream sauce, served with buttery mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked asparagus. Did I mention the bread, warm crusty and Don't forget the TDF for dessert. It's a sticky toffee pudding with killer To Die For sauce. Love the chic beachy decor that is perfect for celebrating a special occasion or just for enjoying delicious food.

A peace of magic, is what I would call this place ! The ambiance of the butterfly cafe gives me an enchanted home in the islands. The exposed wood roof and the huge ceiling fans allow for this. In addition, the food was great too. The best part was the cheese bread. It was soft, warm and perfect for any dish that had sauce.

Cute restaurant on the premises of Tranquility Bay Resort, it was a short walk from our beach house and very convenient, the Staff was amazingly friendly and welcoming, the ambiance was chic and felt high end, buttttttt the food was NOT amazing, I was hoping for some amazing fish; I mean it is in Key West (fishermen's heaven) instead I was served definitely tasted likes a frozen fish pattie!!! I ordered the mahi mahi ($42) with veggies and mash potatoes which was very good but the fish was horrible!!! Tasteless and watery, very frozen like; the rest of my party agreed. We all ordered some type of fish dish over $30 dollars each and was very disappointed. The server was very nice and offered us another dish but it wasn't much to choose from so we just eat the veggies and left the fish! (Waste of Money) I would recommend if you are staying at the resort to eat from the Tiki Bar it was good!! If you want a nice dinner head on out to one of the locate restaurants.

It wasn't the best meal we've ever had, but it was definitely the best food we had during our trip. Our favorites were the conch fritters, which were delicious, and the Angus cheeseburger, which was honestly the best thing we ordered. The mussels were also excellent and full of flavor. The shrimp ceviche was decent, but it could have used a little more seasoning, citrus, or zest. It felt a bit dry and didn't have the bright, fresh flavor I was expecting. The seafood platter was the biggest disappointment, especially considering the price. The mahi was under seasoned, and the texture wasn't enjoyable. The crab cakes had a fishy taste, and while the scallops were just okay, the shrimp was actually very good. The sweet potato side was delicious, but overall the platter didn't feel like a good value for what was served. Overall, despite a few misses, this was still the best dining experience we had in the Keys. The service was good, and there were enough standout dishes that we'd come back. I'd recommend sticking with the conch fritters, mussels, Angus cheeseburger, and shrimp.

We got seated inside just as the sun was starting to set. Sadly all the guests that had finished eating right before us decided to walk over to the dock outside the restaurant which just so happened to be the exact viewing location for the sunset so we didn't get any really good photos of it bc there were so many people over there videoing it and taking photos. It was still nice scenery while we waited for our food though. I ordered ceviche to start us off as our appetizer and it was really good. My dinner was a pasta dish with shrimp and scallops. The sauce was supposed to be a white cream sauce but it was really runny. Even adding extra Parmesan cheese to it didn't help thicken it. It tasted ok. Not my best pick. I had a choice of soup or salad with it. I chose their she crab soup and I'm glad I did. It was great. Almost reminded me of homemade chicken and dumplings soup just with crab. I really liked it. I should have stopped with that and the ceviche. My husband got a grouper fish sandwich. He thought it was good but the prices were a bit high for what it was. His fish sandwich was $29. Although good, not worth $29. My pasta definitely not worth the $31. May be a bit of a tourist trap but the food was decent.

The service and food were both fantastic! While they focus on seafood, there is something for everyone on the menu, even your picky eaters. Fresh and very flavorful!! The fish dip, lobster/steak, chicken, key lime pie, and cheesecake are all highly recommended. Restrooms have AC and are clean (with mouthwash). It's legitimately one of the oldest continuously operating restaurants in the Florida Keys, which gives it a lot of built-in credibility before you even sit down. Walking up to it, you feel that history. The exterior, the gravel lot, the signage--it's pure roadside Keys. Inside, it leans into that "local bar meets tourist stop" vibe: long wooden bar, TVs, stickers everywhere, taps lined up. Then you open the menu and it pivots in every direction--New England chowder house, BBQ joint, burger shack, seafood spot. It's not clear what it wants to be, and that lack of focus carries straight through to the food. We started with both chowders. The clam chowder looks right at first glance, but the texture tells you everything--thick, almost gluey, clearly roux-heavy. The flavor leans aggressively fatty, closer to margarine than butter, with very little clam presence. No briny backbone, no pepper, no lift. We ended up dumping in black pepper and hot sauce just to make it remotely acceptable--but even then, that heavy fat note kept pushing through. Nothing about it reads as New England. The conch chowder fares a bit better. You can actually see a decent amount of conch, and there's a peppery edge that helps. But the broth is thin and lacks the chunky, stewed tomato depth you expect from a proper Keys-style conch chowder. After having it done right earlier at Key Largo Fisheries, the difference was obvious. Then there are the Texas Twinkies--and the photo really says it all. On paper, this should work: jalapeños wrapped in bacon, stuffed with brisket, pulled pork, cheeses, and sauce. In execution, it's just too much. Too much cream cheese, too many competing sauces, meats chopped into a soft, indistinct filling. It collapses into a heavy, muddy bite that feels more overwhelming than satisfying. Looking back at the menu, the simpler move--burger, ribs, even wings--probably would have been the right call. Instead, we ordered straight into the identity crisis. And that theory held up. We went back and grabbed a burger later--cooked a proper medium rare, with well-done, crispy fries--and it was easily the best thing we had from them. I wanted to like Herbie's. There's history, personality, and clearly a loyal following. But between the confused concept and uneven execution, the move here is simple: stick to the basics.

Baked Brie Provencale was tasty but a joke at $26. My wife loved her Chicken Parmesan. My son and I had Cowboy Ribeyes and while tasty, they were way too thin, maybe 3/4 inch and because of that, cooked more to medium than the requested medium rare. For $88 I'd have preferred a thicker steak with a smaller footprint. His wife's risotto with fresh catch of yellowtail snapper was very good. Lighting was weird and we were seating at the back in the service galley, which sucked. Our waiter, whose name escapes me, didn't seem to care about much of anything, For almost $600 for four people in the keys, I'd expect more.
