This is my favorite breakfast place ever. The food is consistently good and everything I've had there is amazing. The French toast meals are all great. And the red rooster skillet is amazing. Also, always get the biscuit on the side. Service is fine, but nothing amazing. They are always packed so they don't have time to be very friendly and hang out at your table. To sum this up.... Don't waste your time and get better food at egg harbor or nosh!!!! I have tried to give buttermilk a shot several times but every time I do, there is some issue. A couple months back my family and I went for breakfast. It was busy, but not obsurd. We began to place our order the waitress snaps at one of the orders because we weren't allowed to make "custom" orders or make substitutions to menu items due to complaints of long food wait times. She wasn't even pleasant or nice about it. Not to mention the fact the person requested to take out an item from the simple omelet item, was due to an allergy. It wouldn't have been as bad if she wasn't so snappy and rude about the issue. Food came and it was Luke warm, not even hot. I could have gone into the kitchen and made all of our breakfasts quicker and better than what was brought out. Fast forward to this past Sunday... Went to have brunch with some friends. There were probably 30 people waiting outside so we knew we were in for a long wait. We asked what the wait time was to a woman who sounded like she had no clue what she was doing. She told us it was a 30 minute wait, my friend and I questioned her because of all the people standing but she assured us it was only 30 mins. After checking in at 35 mins, she looks at us like we are the biggest inconvenience for questioning our wait time, proceeds to count the names ahead of us in her shuffled papers, and tells us it's another 45 - hour wait!!! Are you kidding me?? I wouldn't waste your time waiting for food here. Yeah it's a cute place and has some decent items on the menu, but for the rudeness of the staff and the incorrect wait times I would just go somewhere else. We ended up getting seated at Nosh right away and had the best experience like always!!! Buttermilk will not last in Geneva, yeah they seem to be overly busy now but from the looks of aggravated people waiting I can't imagine they will be coming back nor will I. read more

This is probably my favorite breakfast spot in Illinois. The food was great, but the server is what made the experience worth wild. My server was Mariella and she made my fiancé and I feel like we were dining in the Ritz-Carlton. Not only did she consistently make sure that our coffee mugs were full, but after asking her suggestions on what to order, her response was out of this world. She gave us a couple options and asked what our tastebuds are like, and what she suggested was on point. In the end, I ordered the Alabama Hot Chicken Benny and it's become an addiction. I can honestly say that every time I visit my parents (over an hour away), this is my new GO-TO spot for breakfast and brunch. As in where I currently live, there isn't a place like this in my entire county! This is a great place to find a fun twist on your classic breakfast concepts. The food is always delicious and filling. I was really happy once they got their liquor license but I was a little disappointed by the Bloody Mary. It seems a little watered down, not something to write home about. The wait can be awful if you go at peak times but you can call ahead or use the No Wait App to get your name on the list before you get there. With the open concept and draw for groups, it can be pretty loud in there. Aside from that, the unique menu and specialty coffee bar are great draw-ins for any one looking for something different. I will give it another shot, but I had a Belgian Waffle and bacon. If you had blindfolded me and told me to guess what I was eating, I could not tell you. It was the blandest waffle ever. A place like this should have the tastiest batters. I am afraid to try pancakes now. the bacon was good--thick, tasty, fresh. the restaurant was so loud, even though I purposely picked an off time to go to avoid the crowd. I love this place! My boyfriend and I go for brunch and always leave happy. They have traditional dishes and some unique styles. Whether you want eggs, pancakes, or a stuffed breakfast biscuit, it all tastes great! They also have many choices for coffee and other beverages. While weekends are insanely crowded, week day mornings aren't bad at all! Some people may find this place a little pricey, but it get a large amount of food with each order. Table and chairs are very small. Seating is tight, which is not comfortable for many customers. Veggie omelet on mushy side and broccoli undercooked. My favorite breakfast place in Geneva. They have a menu that people appeals to those who are more adventurous as well as the people who just want a basic breakfast. The balance is great. I have yet to eat anything there that I didn't like. The only knock is the coffee. For a place that has an espresso machine, the coffee tastes like basic Folgers diner coffee. I don't know why so many breakfast places struggle to make great coffee. Maybe they keep it out too long? I'm not sure. I can get past the coffee though. read more

Only gave it 3 stars because from time of ordering our food til it came to the table it took just shy of a hr we noticed others sat down after us and received their meal, ate and left before we got ours. I was in line on the no wait app for 35 minutes. Our table became available and we were 5 minutes away. When we walked in the door they told us that they had to give our table away. Instead of having us be next in line since we had already waited, they made us go to the back of the line. Then had to wait another hour only to find out they forgot to put our name down again and had been waiting for nothing. The place has good food but the staff at the front desk needs a major attitude adjustment. I just had the feeling that we were not important to them because they knew someone else was going to hand them their money anyways. Don't think I will be going back here. We went there today at 8:45, I expected a crowd and there was. We were told the wait would be 10 minutes but it was more like 25. The space is very open a fresh but the acoustics are terrible! Lots of noise but you can't hear the person you are with. Our server admitted she didn't know the menu well yet, which may explain why my husbands order was wrong. Service was very slow and I practically had to beg for a second cup of coffee. Server seemed surprised that coffee mugs got refilled. My omelet was ok but nothing special, the hash browns are obviously frozen and baked, barely hot and not crispy. Toast was wRm, but but not toasted. My husband had the corned beef hash, it had very little meat. I hate to sound so picky but going out for breakfast is our favorite meal and it was very disappointing. My family has owned restaurants most of my life and it was hard to see people standing around and not really caring about service. read more

I said I wouldn't post on a place that just opened but I hope the owners actually read these. The menu looked interesting, it was very cute in there...little noisy that comes with the industrial design. My only complaint was our waitress. I know she was the problem because the people next to us had a waiter that was on top of it. The people next to us came after us, ordered after us and finished eating before us. Mostly because we NEVER got our food. I will give it another chance in a couple months but if I see that waitress coming to wait on us I'm asking for another table. I really hope this place makes it and I hope they get some people in there that can make it happen. Oh, and as far as Egg Harbor...their food and service is top notch. Why? We ordered 2 skillets to go (one with a side of pancakes, the other with a biscuit) and an extra biscuit on the side. When we got home there was no extra biscuit (which was an extra $2 charge) and they clearly charged us. There was NO syrup for my pancakes only butter and 4 things of jelly for the one biscuit. The Wilbur skillet had like 2 pieces of bacon and my chicken fried chicken skillet had no gravy or really anything the description said. Definitely sticking with Lumes. read more

First time seating at Buttermilk. Waitress very friendly and cordial. Ordered basic omelette, and my friend ordered eggs over medium. Omelette overcharged on our bill versus what was printed in the menu (not by much, but just the principal) and eggs were presented to our table as over easy and shown on receipt as over easy. Food quality was good. Environment was better than good. Nice place...we may try again as it may just be the "grand opening" jitters. When you deal with the unfriendly host at the front (yes, people are asking you how much longer for a table and that can be super annoying.... but after over an hour wait for a party of 3 we had to ask where we were on the list-please don't roll your eyes and tell me "your system went down but it should be another 20 mins". If your system went down, how can you magically tell me how much longer ), a server that barely said 10 words in the first 20 minutes of our experience and a busser who hovered over our table while we put our jackets on.....
