Very cute place. Food is average. That said the fries are really good. The sandwich I ordered had bacon that was barely cooked. Be sure to ask for crispy bacon if that is your preference. Love this place, but the last two times we have went, the floors and seats were quite dirty. Service was also very mediocre. This last waitress seemed like we were bugging here every time we asked for something which was not often. She was not at all helpful when we asked whether a dish had nuts in it. We went on a Monday morning at about 10:30 and had to wait 30 minutes for a table but it was DEFINITELY worth it! Best breakfast food around, and the best pancakes I've ever had! We made our third visit today and it was the same old problems: below average food served by disinterested and incompetent servers. Today's breakfast was almost identical to the first visits in April and May where we waited 5 minutes for our initial cup of coffee, were given food that was not cooked to order, and were not given all of our condiments. When we went looking for our waitress today to get syrup for our pancakes we found her in the back eating. Like I said, this was the third bad experience so we have given up. Geneva has two great diners (The Geneva Diner and State Street Diner) plus Nosh and Egg Harbor for more creative offerings - and all four places have a long history of getting it right - so don't waste your time with this place. read more

Tough to rate this place since the food was easily 4 star and our server was great, but everything before sitting down was ridiculous. Sure it was busy, but on beautiful fall weekends, the older host/manager shouldn't act as unbelievably rude as she was and as if she was doing us a favor by letting people patronize their place. We were told a 40 minute wait for four which was absolutely fine, then our folks left so we changed the reservation to 2 people. The hostess responded when asked how the wait would be for two that its 5 minutes. I was clearly happy and said that was great since we'd rather not wait 40 minutes. Older hostess just smiled and gave me the buzzer thing. 5 minutes went by, then 10, 15, 20, and at 25 I asked if its possible we missed a buzz...she laughed at me and said no. Then we hit the 40 minute mark and I went in to ask what was going on, a different younger host said there were 6 tables ahead of us. I was baffled since I was told 5 minutes. Then the older hostess came back and tried to tell me she said it would be 5 minutes less than 40 minutes and not in 5 minutes with a pretty rude tone. When in the history of dining would a host communicate a waiting time in such a ridiculous manner after I clearly expressed happiness that we would be waiting 5 minutes instead of 40...and then be rude about it? Probably should mention there were at least 5 different groups waiting outside and all where telling their ridiculous story about the rude hostess. There is lots of good food everywhere so there was nothing earth shattering here to make us come back and deal with that circus again. read more

Good opening Buttermilk! We all enjoyed our meals, ranging from various pancake creations, to a lunch selection (an inventive take on fried chicken). Buttermilk has risen to the top of the Fox Valley breakfast list! I have been a few times now and I can't say enough about how incredible the food is. The portions are huge (who doesn't like leftovers?!) and the food is so good it'll make you want to lick the plate (you might not have leftovers after you taste the first bite)! Buttermilk is a fabulous healthy alternative to normally very typically unhealthy breakfast food. Their service is excellent and the online check in application, 'nowait helps to speed up the long wait times, especially on Sunday mornings. Keep in mind that reviews are very subjective, that is why their average reviews are only 3.4, which is ridiculous. Being a restaurant manager I am often more critical than the average restaurant goer but that comes with the territory. I personally loved this place, you can use a no wait app to dramatically cut down the wait, ours was 45 minutes, when were seated within 10 once we arrived, it even tells you how many parties are ahead of you. I liked the modern decor, the wood floor was a nice touch. Being a Holiday, I understood that "A" service should not be the expectation, for this reason, "B" service was acceptable, the server was attentive and friendly, but was definitely affected by the volume, she forgot to properly introduce herself and did not mention the specials, but she did check back after we received the meal. Now let's get to the best part, the main reason why I am giving this place 5 stars, the food, wow it was delicious, even my health conscious Quinoa Parfait was amazing, it featured local honey, Quinoa, sunflower kernels, blackberries, sliced almonds, and a mint infused Greek yogurt, delicious. My wife's Mexican Omelet for which she was able to substitute a Chicken Chorizo for the pork was good, nice texture and flavor. Lastly my daughter's Strawberry and Creme Crepes were fantastic. If you go make sure that you have one of their blended coffee drinks, the Toffee nut was tasty. Their prices were very reasonable, especially due to the quality. Give yourself a favor and give Buttermilk a try, I think you will really enjoy the experience. read more

Although the service can be slow at times (only because it gets so busy), this place is wonderful! My kids absolutely love it and so do I. We often go every weekend! I have been here on multiple occasions the food is always good and the service is always nice. However the wait in certain days is unreasonable. The main hostice in the fron is rude and does a good job on letting you think the wait is hopeless. Buttermilk is a great restaurant. When me and my family got there, there was a big line! The person at the desk said it was an hour wait. So when it was finally an hour, we started ordering. I understand this is a new place, however they have no understanding of how to accommodate a large group. After waiting an hour for a table, a member of our group asked why don't they push a couple open tables together. Novel concept that they never thought of! Next, it took a good 15 minutes to get our drinks and we waited quite some time go our food and when it did come out quite a bit of the order was missing. I had an omelet which was good, and not over stuffed with cheese. The breakfast potatoes were very good as were the pancakes. I hope they are able work out the kinks and timing. read more

I am disappointed. The restaurant looks fresh and hip, but there wasn't anything special about the place. The waitress was inattentive at best and the food was ok. I feel I could've gotten something just as tasty for a better price at Colonial or IHOP. I ordered a toasted almond latte but was brought a vanilla latte twice by two different people before I got what I ordered. The biscuits people have raved about never made it to our table so we didn't get to try those. My tres leches French toast was ok. I ordered my bacon extra crispy and it wasn't. Our waitress didn't try to get me the right latte the first or second time, and was nowhere to be found when we were wondering about our biscuits. I didn't even bother bringing up the bacon. I might try this place one more time if that's where others want to go, but I'm not making it a point to go again. I'll stick with Colonial or Nosh. read more

The food is outstanding and the Pottery Barn like atmosphere is very warm and inviting. However after being there a few times, I do not like the manager at the front host stand. After watching her several times while waiting for a table she is demeaning the way she talks to guests. Saying 'wow, that long for a table' is a very common response to say when finding out what a wait time is. But the lady with the short black hair is just plain RUDE. She always responds....'Its BUTTERMILK', what do you expect. Not...I know its long but its worth it. Its not the Crown Plaza. Its a wonderful addition to a midwest town that people love to gather to. She thinks she owns the place and really rubs people the wrong way unless you are in her inner circle. read more

My family ate there for Easter today. It was great. Way better than other local restaurants of the same type, in my opinion. The whole family commented on how good it was. We finally tried this place even though it's been open for a while . It is always so crowded on weekends and holidays it's just impossible so we didn't bother until we decided to try it on a weekday. First, The good: food was mostly fine, our server was great and very attentive. I had the corned beef hash and eggs. They make their own hash and it was some of the best I've had. The rest was ok, nothing special about eggs and bacon. Now the "not so good ": the place is noisy with terrible acoustics. The prices are about 50% more than comparable brunch places nearby. Most places; you want a basic eggs, bacon and pancakes, no problem; but here everything is an add-on for extra $. My wife had gluten-free pancakes, and they were practically inedible; dry and falling apart. To be fair GF pancakes are never like the real thing, but she ended up leaving these mostly uneaten. So in summary we have no reason to go back when there are plenty of places nearby with food just as good at a more reasonable price and nicer setting. read more

Our family dines here often, and never have we had such poor service. Our server named Marco was awful! First, he screwed up my hot chocolate, brought me a marshmallow hot chocolate which I never asked for. He did bring me a new one fairly quickly; however, he screwed up my breakfast order! I ordered a special, Peach French toast. It came with almonds and I specifically told him I did not want them. I don't care for any kind of nuts, so I always ask to hold off on them. He served me my breakfast and when my husband and I said something to him, he told me that it's pecans, and that I didn't ask for them to be removed. I kept my dish and just scraped them off, but on the way out I asked to see the menu again to make sure that I knew what I read. Sure enough, he was WRONG! He lied, got my drink and meal wrong and tried to cover it up. Management told me that he's new, so they have to retrain him. That is very unacceptable, and frustrating! They need to do better! We left him a nice tip, but now I regret it as I thought that the management would actually do something about it! read more

Have been to this place 4-5 times and each time it gets better and better. the service on day one was typical of any new restaurant. but it's obvious they are working through the kinks and figuring it out. The service has been excellent the last few times, and the food has yet to disappoint. The space is fun and vibrant and you feel the freshness of everything they produce.
