First time here. My wife and I walked in, during a week day no less, and was seated at a booth right away. The restaurant is very clean and appealing, our booth was right next to their windows so there was plenty to see. Our server, Gretchen, was very nice and served us quickly with drinks. I ordered just drip coffee but my wife had the Chai Latte, which smelled heavenly and she said it tasted delicious. I ordered the short stack of Lemon Blueberry pancakes with a side of their Honey Smoked Bacon (3 pieces) and my wife had the Simple Serve French toast, also with a side of bacon. The first star was lost when our server came out with our food only to discover that she had put in an order for just regular pancakes, as she "claimed" not to have heard me say lemon blueberry (but ironically she heard me ask for the short stack of pancakes). So then I had to wait another 6-7 minutes for my correct order to come out. When the pancakes did come out the pancakes were absolutely delicious. My wife said her French toast was delicious as well. The second lost star falls with the bacon. I was disappointed in the bacon however as it didn't have hardly any flavor whatsoever; I mean when you order bacon you want a little fat, a little salt...something. First of all - use Yelp Waitlist for this location because they're very popular! I didn't do that but even the wait was totally worth it. The Banana Nutella crepe was really good! It comes with two crepes, Nutella drizzle, powdered sugar, sliced bananas, and walnuts. It's not too sweet so you're not over powered but still very good. The garlic parsley fries were pretty good too! The garlic taste was subtle, the cheese on top added to the flavor, good crunch to the fries but not overly fried. The diner burger was really really good! I knew it came with two patties but I didn't know how filling it would be! Totally worth the price. And the salt & vinegar cracklins? Never had them before but they were a great surprise. I love salt and vinegar chips and these were so good I want the recipe! I'm usually not full from meals I order but this was such a good bang for your buck but really great type of meal that I would definitely go again. If you're able to catch it, I was able to order the Blue Diamond seasonal mimosa. The sugar on the rim was tasty and the berry taste was subtle which is great because I'm not a berry lover but it was really good. The only downside was the honey biscuit. My girlfriend was looking for a more toasted less doughy bite. And it was kind of doughy but the honey glaze was still pretty good. Our waitress did a great job for all 6 of us. The manager not so good. She actually had the nerve to tell us we need to leave soon as they have a 90 minute time limit on customer stays. It took about 1/2 an hour to order and get our food. That means we had 60 minutes to eat and visit with our group-we get together once a month for a breakfast club. There was a table next to us that would have seated 6 people, and as we left there was only a family of 3 waiting to be seated. This place has to work on service, quality, and consistency. I reserved a table for 1 through yelp and was 64th in line. I showed up an hour early to check in right away. For over an hour, the app wouldn't refresh; it never showed that I checked in. The seating system is bizarre and unreliable. A guy next to me was 77th in line and his family of 3 were seated 30 minutes before me. How is that even possible or logical? The hosts are not friendly because they are always telling upset people that their wait is still NOT over. This place is ridiculously busy. I gave it two stars because the food is great. The BEST breakfast place in the area, by far. I will continually recommend this place. I have never had a bad experience here. Let's start at the beginning (shall we)... personally, I like the fact they leave troughs of water and coffee on the table throughout the experience. It makes it super easy and convenient when people need refills. Next, the service. Although busy, I never once felt rushed. The wait staff is polite and offers recommendations. Every person I have encountered there has been pleasant which is impressive because this place is constantly busy. Now, I'll address the ONLY downside... which is the wait. I suggest coming around open. I feel like the general wait time here is 20-45 minutes. However, you can use the YELP app to put your name in. Is the food worth the wait? Absolutely. Overall, my favorite place. The food is fabulous and well cooked. Many options for foodies of all kinds. Many drink options including specialty coffee drinks and alcoholic beverages. There are always lines at this place so I thought we should try it. It was a winner! You can use yelp to skip the line and show up when it's your turn. We used this and only had a 10 minute wait once we checked in at the restaurant. They have a full coffee bar, lattes, espresso, etc., if you need a coffee while you wait. I had the Berries Wild pancakes. For a dollar less, you can get the short stack, which is what I had. The short stack had three large pancakes covered with fresh berries. Delicious! I could not finish them even though they were very good. I also had a side of the hickory smoked bacon. Three slices of thick-cut bacon which had a really good flavor, but was a little tough due to being cooked ahead of time. My daughter had scrambled eggs with bacon, biscuit and crispy potatoes. The potatoes were good but might have been better with less seasoning. I'm looking forward to a return visit. read more

If I would've written this a couple of years ago...This would be very different. This has a great atmosphere. Great "looking" place. However the quality has decreased dramatically. The wait staff alone was worth going for. The food was outstanding. It was a long wait but worth it. Last couple of times going to this place...UGH. The waitstaff with the personality is GONE, the food quality seems like it's being made by someone who is reading a recipe or someone hired some cooks with no culinary pride to deliver some once fantastic recipes. You wouldn't notice the difference if you've never eaten here before a few years ago. A little sad to see a place like this lose it's luster. Also a ton of traffic here so they've probably become spoiled with too much business?? I dunno...Just bad service today, the square potatoes were D-RY! The waiter had the presence of a bus boy who may have been forced to be a waiter today??? Finally! A place that knows how to do pumpkin pancakes. So many places that I've tried just taste like spices and/or are dry, but at Buttermilk, they definitely taste like pumpkin and are so light and fluffy. Only negative is that it they cover it heavily with a cream cheese topping which is tasty, but very sweet. I'd get it on the side if I ever ordered it again. Conversely, I did get one of their pumpkin biscuits to go - really delicious, but did not taste like pumpkin. I was a little bit underwhelmed by the cold brew. It wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. I'd stick to the regular coffee or lattes. The corned beef hash (that I've had before at the naperville location) was delicious. It's the kind of corned beef you'd have on St. Patrick's Day, clearly homemade. My eggs were pretty undercooked though. I ordered over medium and some of the whites were still translucent. But overall it's pretty good. Just fair warning that prices are on the higher end. However, their portions are generous and I usually have enough leftovers for at least one other meal. read more

Went here for breakfast around 9:30 on a Saturday morning. They said 45 minutes but 10 minutes later our table was ready, surprised for a party of 7!! I had an amazing skillet with ham, bacon, scrambled eggs and potatoes. My husband had an omelette and my daughter had a ginormous waffle. All of us took doggie bags home. I had a wonderful experience with the location in Naperville. Used online waiting when we went to visit family in Geneva which was awesome. The service was ok. It was busy which I expected. Wasn't a problem. My nephew had a server drop a tray of food on his lap. Which she apologized but not overly concerned. He picked up the tab for the whole table ($125.00 bill) and the server never comped him for his meal. I thought that was very rude service. We just left Buttermilk Restaurant in Geneva and celebrated our 51st anniversary with a wonderful breakfast. We had the biscuits for the 1st (but not last time), fluffy pancakes, wonderful side of ham. , a skillet with so much meat. We couldn't finish it all. It was all delicious! We loved the little things most restaurants don't do, like a coffee craft on the table, a water carafe as well, hot syrup, a wonderful, mixed jam, and comfortable seating. Last but last but not least our server Jill was fantastic. She kept checking on us asking if we needed anything else and was so attentive and explained so many things to us about the menu.
