The beef tallow angle is what drew me in, but the execution doesn't match the marketing. High-fructose corn syrup maple syrup and ketchup kind of defeat the purpose. You can't claim "no seed oils" "beef tallow" and then only halfway commit to ingredient quality. I guess I'll just bring my own maple syrup and ketchup next time. Food otherwise is great.

Went on a Thursday and got sat promptly. Biscuits were tasty and filling, cookie butter latte wasn't as sweet as expected, and Little Goats crepe was good but on the dry side could use a sauce of some sort.

Absolutely wonderful! First time at Buttermilk and I'd make it a staple visit if I lived closer to Geneva. Our hostess for breakfast was wonderful - kind, attentive, friendly and made me feel like I knew her for years (thanks Melissa!) So many breakfast options available, something for everyone to eat, and gluten free options! I settled for the mountain house skillet which was so good, probably the best skillet I've had in a long time. My husband had the classic eggs Benedict. Their homemade jam was excellent (comes free at the table) and lots of coffee and drink options. Their pancakes looked so good - definitely saving for next time. Highly recommend!

Went here for breakfast with a friend. There was no wait at 8:30am. They do have a separate GF menu however it is pretty limited. I ordered GF pancakes with bananas and crispy potatoes. The food was delicious and the service was very good.

Our wait time was about 5-10 mins so not too bad, our service was just decent he checked up on us and made sure we were taken care of. I got the B to the G with the E which was pretty good but it is very heavy for sure. My friend got a waffle with strawberries which was 16-17 dollars which I found insane. Considering it was one waffle and a handful of strawberries. I also got a brown sugar shaken espresso with vanilla cold foam which was pretty nice. I've been here before and I do like coming here the restaurant is pretty cute and the place is nicely decorated. I usually prefer the Geneva one since it's closer and in a better location. Overpriced sometimes but usually makes up for the price. 3.75/5

Buttermilk is a hot brunch spot, especially on the weekends, so be sure to arrive early or put your name on the online waitlist. Despite having to wait a bit out front, my family and I had a lovely time! The restaurant has an expansive menu as well as a separate vegan/gluten free menu. We tried a few omelets and the corned beef hash. A side biscuit is a MUST no matter what you order!! The restaurant was lively and full, but didn't feel too crowded. Our server, Gretchen, was the sweetest, and she was so helpful and attentive!!!!

Chilaquiles were so good and the chips stayed crisp

My return to Buttermilk was so much better. It's amazing how one different dish can change one's perspective. Service and atmosphere remained the same. This time around I had chilaquiles, one buttermilk biscuit, and one honey biscuit. The chilaquiles came big and hot with crispy chips tucked under two tender sunny side up eggs. You've got my attention when you serve up a dish with non soggy chips. This entree was savory and packed with flavor coming from the salsa, the chipotle crema, and pickled red onion. I also appreciated the generous amount of cheese given which slightly held everything together. I happily ate every filling bite and took the biscuits home for later. Both biscuits were different in flavor and texture. The buttermilk was sturdy with a crisp exterior and fairly dry on the inside. This type of biscuit is perfect candidate for breakfast sandwiches and will hold up to most moist ingredients. The honey was slightly sweet, moist, and slightly crumbly making a perfect choice to spread preserves or jam on!

First of all, best french toast I've ever had. The fruit sauce and toasted almonds were perfect, and the amount of sweetness was tasteful, not overpowering. The orange juice seemed to be fresh squeezed, if I understood the menu properly. The menu offering was extensive but not overwhelming. Prices are high - so if you're looking for a cheap diner, this is not it. I went with my toddler and got french toast, orange juice, and two sausage links for myself, and a kids combo plate for him. Our total came to $41 before tip, so I'm not sure I'll be back too often unless I have some cash burning a hole in my pocket. The service was prompt and polite! If money's not a concern, come to Buttermilk! If it is, just beware of ordering sides and drinks, they'll add up quick.

Love this place. Staff is awesome and the food is always great!!! Spacious location. Located Downtown Geneva so can take a walk afterwards.

The cutest spot!!!! So glad we stopped in for breakfast on our weekend away! Our waiter was so knowledgeable, kind and helpful! He directed us to the biscuits and boy was he right! He also checked on us just the right amount! I got a Benny that had pumpkin biscuits, apple cider glazed ham and a paprika cheddar hollandais....fantastic! My husband got the chorizo gravy and biscuits along with salt/vinegar cracklings- he wanted to buy just couldn't finish it all.

2/9/25 Been here several times and have always had a good experience. The dining area always clean. This time our server totally failed us. How could you have forgotten one coffee. We ordered one coffee and 2 meals. Basic!!!!! She didn't even remember what coffee I ordered! The place was not even busy! We even made it easy ordering everything at once. To me this is unacceptable. Retraining is definitely a must. As far as the food goes it was okay the bacon the was over cooked but everything else was good. I don't like leaving bad reviews but if you don't address the issue it will continue.

How to add name to waitlist?

On the day you plan to come in, go to their profile on yelp, and you will find the prompt to add your name to their waitlist

What is the minimum of people? Can 2 people go and get seated?

I was seated in a large, spacious booth as a party of two over the summer, so I believe the answer is yes

Are they still open for sit down dining?

    Yes they are

Is buttermilk open on memorial day?

Yes normal hours 7 to 2:30!

How would I use yelp to skip a wait in line? It was suggested in a review but I'm not seeing how I'd go about doing so.

I informed our server that I have celiac disease, and she was helpful in confirming that the cocktails were gluten-free. I ordered the Pineapple Express sangria, and it was absolutely delicious. When it comes to the food, most items on the menu can actually be made gluten-free, but they aren't marked on the menu and they do not offer a separate gluten-free menu. Our server did let us know right away that they were out of three of their entree items. For my meal, I started with the gluten-free soup which comes with gluten-free noodles, and it was really good. However, I didn't really like any of the remaining entrees they had left available, so I decided to order sides instead. The server mentioned that most of the sides are or can be made gluten-free. I chose the creamy mashed potatoes and the brussel sprouts, specifically requesting the sprouts without croutons. When the food arrived, the brussel sprouts unfortunately had croutons on them. I pointed it out to the server, and she immediately said she would have them remade for me. While I am very glad I caught the mistake before eating them, it is something to watch out for. Overall, the experience was mediocre.

They also changed up their cocktail menu, and we were super excited to see they had some new summer drinks. This is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants in the area. It's perfect for special occasions and date nights. The first two times we came we sat at the bar, but we came right when they opened and were able to be seated at a table. I love the candlesticks they have lit at the tables. There's a a view of the kitchen as well. To drink, I had the Dip in the Backyard Kiddie Pool (very refreshing) and Fresa Fresca (basically a strawberry margarita and it was super refreshing and tasted like strawberry juice). For dessert, we shared the oreo carjillo. It was pretty strong to me, but it definitely tasted like Oreos and milk! To eat as an appetizer, they gave us complimentary bread and butter and we ordered the sundried tomato oil to go along with it (a must). Their bread is so soft and fresh. We also got the bone marrow (forgot to get a photo), and it was some of the best we've had!! For our entrees, we got the two pasta dishes. They called them "small plates" but it was the perfect amount of food for us with our appetizers. I had the spicy carrot rigatoni pasta and it was super fresh. I love that they cooked the pasta al dente.

When we arrived at the table, there was an anniversary card from the staff. Nice touch! We were brought a loaf of the warm housemade bread with whipped butter to begin. Hubby ordered the Having a Moment bourbon cocktail, and I had the Honey Kiss vodka and elderflower cocktail. Love their creative cocktail list. Karen was a fabulous server, so attentive and friendly. The other staff was on top of everything from water being refilled to clearing dirty dishes and even fresh butter brought to the table when it was low. Our needs were met before we even needed to ask. Also, since Karen knew that we were splitting all the courses, she automatically had the food split between two plates. I liked that. We decided to split everything we ordered. We started with the smoked salmon deviled eggs which were creamy delicious, not to mention beautifully presented. Our second starter was the bone marrow with caramelized shallots. This dish was absolutely amazing. My only critique would be to put four pieces of bread on the plate went two people are sharing. Our next course was a salad and we went with the roasted beet salad with blue cheese and sunflower shoots dressed in a warm bacon vinaigrette. Bacon - need I say more? Our main course was the walleye with ricotta gnudi, fava beans, peas and wild mushrooms. So many flavors and textures going on. The fish was perfectly seared and moist. Delectable. We thought about dessert but we were so full from dinner that we passed. Karen wouldn't let us go without a complimentary dessert in honor of our anniversary to enjoy at home, their signature butterscotch pot de crème with sea salt caramel. The Graceful Ordinary certainly made our anniversary special with the anniversary card at the table, and the complementary dessert. If you're in the western Chicago burbs, I highly recommend checking this restaurant out.

The Birria egg rolls were a bit on the smaller side but made a big impression with its preparation. I've never had birria wrapped in anything as crispy as the wonton wrapper this was wrapped in. The birria was flavorful while being tender and not being too salty. The white cheddar and chihuahua cheese added a small amount of extra saltiness and a bit more fat, which matched well with the chipotle aiola. The duck poutine was incredibly flavorful, while sitting on the edge of potentially being too bold. The fries were incredibly crispy though there was quite a bit of gravy on the dish and the white cheddar cheese curds did a great job of keeping the entire dish hot throughout the meal, while adding a little bit of extra flavor. The bacon and onion added some umami though it almost made the dish a bit too salty and the duck confit added a nice protein element. Overall a little pricey, but given the more unique menu and quality of both the flavors and textures, it's worth the premium. So we had no choice but to put our empty plates on the table next to us - there truly wasn't any room and one guy giggled when I asked if he would take our appetizer plates. Our waitress came by shortly after and I said we asked for boxes and our plates to be cleared so we had room. She said she'd take care of it, which she did. After that, she was much less attentive.
