    Pork Gisantes Thursday Special

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside dining was a good experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Friend was craving for the oxtail soup so this is where we ended up. The Kalbi fried rice tasted even better and the portion was even more. My friend's reaction was "Wow!" We both enjoyed our meals. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Went a little earlier to beat the lunch-hour crowd. Sure enough the tables were filling up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was a sign on the wall by our booth that stated a time limit. I can't remember what it said though.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I usually order takeout, so this day was a nice change of pace. Service inside was just as cordial and polite as the window help.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Kapiolani Coffee Shop is definitely a place you should try! It's family friendly, and simple set up inside with amazing food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My ohana came here after the zoo and everything we tried was so ono! The loco moco was flavorful, the garlic chicken was fried just right, the tonkatsu curry was the best I have ever had, the teri beef was good, and the oxtail soup was fantastic! We will definitely come back. I also had a cup of the chicken papaya broth and it was sooo good. They serve the ginger on the side so you can add it yourself to the soup, which I loved because I like a lot of ginger and my keiki and husband just like a little so we could each make it the way we wanted it. We came in mid afternoon and didn't have to wait at all, but I have driven by here a lot in the morning/around meal times and have seen a line waiting at the door so you may have to wait depending on when you come-but it is worth it!

My Curry Katsu chicken was greattt! Service was fast and the staff know their customers by name. My first time ever and it was amazing. I'll return when family says.

First time here located in the Waimalu Shopping Center, was a hot Saturday afternoon 1:30 pm. Wanted a place to sit in a/c. comfort. Lots of places to eat in the center.Got seated & May was our server. We chose a Cheeseburger Deluxe , side of French fries & a Fried Saimin. May was friendly& had to come back a second time, cuz we couldn't decide. The food arrived in a timely manner& it was all so delicious! Sitting down in a cool restaurant, made the lunch really nice. Having May being very nice& her partner server, Jackie was a treat to have excellent customer service! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside of the restaurant is simple, but clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will return on our shopping trips ! Reasonable & good hearty food! Thank you!

Had breakfast to day at Kapiolani Coffee Shop. The service was excellent. I ordered bacon and egg with toast. . Bacon medium and eggs over easy. The cook did it perfectly. The toast was the exception. it was under done. Otherwise a perfect meal. Enjoy

First time eating at Kapiolani Coffee Shop in a long time, and it did not disappoint. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place has such a local, laid-back ambiance that really gives you that classic Hawaii comfort feel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came in for a family breakfast this morning and were seated right away, which was a great start. The service was super quick -- our food came out in less than 10 minutes after ordering, which was impressive, especially during breakfast hours. Everything felt smooth, easy, and welcoming. Definitely a solid spot if you're looking for a relaxed, local-style breakfast experience.

I always come for the oxtail soup here. It's my very favorite place to get the Chinese style version! Simmered with star anise and tangerine peel, flavored heavily with Chinese parsley and peanuts. Shoyu and grated ginger provided on the side. Mostly order for takeout so I can head back into town before traffic builds up tho have eaten here in the dining room on occasion. Very old school; greasy spoon joint; very come as you are. On takeout I love how the counter person always packs my order so well. And always get extra grated ginger (well worth the slight upcharge). Order then walk over to Palama Market for a "few extras". Take out order always quick and ready when I return. Located in Waimalu Shopping Center strip mall sharing parking with many other eateries. Parking always full yet always someone leaving. Patience is a virtue. And good food which touches the soul is worth the small wait!

My husband had the oxtail soup, I had chicken katsu with fried noodles and side order scoop rice. My husband always gets the soup. I have yet to find my go to meal there although I really did enjoy the noodles and the ladies were very nice.

Delicious and perfectly warm soup for the rainy weather we have been having! Not a BYOB establishment. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Family oriented environment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Would come here for family dinner again, not too loud[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This place will always be a staple for myself and my family. The oxtail soup is still the best on the island. Yes it's close to $30, but the flavor is unmatched. Still cheaper to buy it than make it at home + labor. And for $8 to get a burger and some fries? Timeless classics. The burgers here are so simple and just bring you back to small kid time. I will always make the drive to come out here whenever I'm craving.

A staple for oxtail soup! I usually get the oxtail soup with rice, but I tried the saimin version and I loved it. There's ginger shoyu sauce for more flavor, but I usually add a ton of tabasco lol. The noodles weren't overcooked and the oxtail was so tender. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Aunties serving us was great and the place was small and cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The parking lot can get super full though

Double cheese burger…read moredeluxe with dirty sauce The Grilled Apostle: 6/10 Ordered the double cheeseburger deluxe with dirty sauce from Forty Niner Restaurant. It looked huge and inviting. The burger itself tasted good as it was cooked with bread mixed in it to make it soft but once you started eating it, the burger fell apart. The bun was thin so it was messy as the sauce and burger started falling out and you needed a lot of napkins. Some people like it messy but it's not my thing. The onions and pickles were a perfect match. Too much American cheese. ________________________________________________ The Premium Purists: 5/10 I was looking forward to trying the burger at Forty Niners and hoped it would be an old fashioned/traditional style deluxe burger. It definitely had the look and right toppings but the patty was a little disappointing. After my first two bites the patties crumbled into pieces and the texture seemed off. It was too mushy and lacked good beef flavor. After learning they mix breadcrumbs in their burger patty, I think the patties I got were not mixed well and the ratio of beef and breadcrumb was off. That is probably why the texture was off, it lacked beef flavor, and crumbled. I would honestly give it another try and go with a single patty. ________________________________________________ The stack analyst: 7/10 Tried the double cheeseburger(dirty style) at 49ers and it was delicious. The fried pickles were the highlight for me. I love fried pickles and they worked really well on the burger. They also didn't hold back on the caramelized onions, which added flavor. The burger had four slices of cheese, so it was definitely rich. The patty had a nice sear on the outside, it did fall apart though. I would've liked a little more salt, but I know that comes down to preference. Bun was nothing special, just your standard setup, but it got the job done. I'd definitely come back and order it again! ________________________________________________ Double stack daddy: 6/10 The burger had a solid foundation, but it was missing flavor and could've used more seasoning. The biggest downside was the bun--it fell apart after the first bite, making the rest of the meal messy. Not a bad burger, but it didn't stand out, and there's definitely room for improvement. ________________________________________________ Bruddah big buns: 4/10 Da patty was mushy. ________________________________________________ Captain messy hands, keeper of the drip: 8/10

Two of us ordered from week 3 - Chicken cutlets with mushroom and gravy. Comes with soup or salad and a fountain soda. I had the Kalua pork veg soup, which was tasty, but the Kalua pork should have been cut into shorter shreds for ease of eating. Soup had a wonderful smoky flavor and aroma. Daughter had the salad, was delicious as always with mixed greens, tomato, and good dressing. Can't go wrong. We were both bowled over by how nice and crunchy/crispy the breading on the chicken cutlet was and how tender the chicken was. Mushrooms really added umami flavor. BCD nailed it with this dish! Hubby had French toast and he enjoyed it. you order two of the weekly specials you get a choice of desserts - BCD signature bread pudding or the brownie pie ala mode. We choose the brownie pie and we're so impressed by how amazing it looked - Anela made it beautiful - and how awesome it tasted. Decadent chewy fudge brownie, Dave's vanilla bean ice cream, whipped cream, all drizzled with chocolate syrup and dusted with powdered sugar. This was to die for! Highly recommend it and the chicken cutlet. Only complaint was the music was so loud it was difficult to talk to the others at our table and to hear our server. Would have given this dining experience 5 stars if the music wasn't so loud it was hurting my ears from the moment we walked in.

Both pies tasted ok, nothing special. The banana cream had a few slices of real banana, which was nice. The pie crust was on the thick side and tasted pretty dry. It wasn't the best banana cream pie I've had .The custard pie was meh, didn't have a real good custardy taste and the crust was the same as the banana cream. I saw a news story on the wall that the owner had worked at Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles. We've been to Roscoe's and this place's chicken was much better. The skin was perfectly crisp and the honey butter sauce was only slightly sweet which added a bit of flavor but did not overwhelm you with sweetness. My kids ate up the chicken meat and I was happy to enjoy the crisp chicken skin by itself. My wife also really enjoyed the waffles and found them to be quite flavorful, again preferring them over what you would get at Roscoe's.
