One of my favorite spots! Great service, creative cocktails, concise but well curated wine selections and awesome drafts and cans. Oh, and I didn't even mention the food yet. Two words, friggin delicious. The menu has something for everyone without overwhelming you with too many options. Make sure you try the cornbread -which arrives golden brown and delicious- and the spaghettini pasta with shrimp that has the most amazing depth of flavor from the pancetta and Calabrian chilies without overwhelming you with spice. Other dishes worth mentioning are the burrata, wings, pork chop, burger and all of the dips! The chefs are regularly innovating and updating the menu to highlight seasonal and local ingredients . The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and happy to help steer you in the right direction if needed. The ambiance is perfect for date nights or just meeting up with some friends for a bite. Food was great - however, the service was not. We ordered our food and a burger to go for when we leave. We asked for the arugula salad instead of fries as the side. We waited 25 minutes AFTER paying for the burger to come out of the kitchen - no one came to check on us until we had to flag the waitress down. When we got in the car, we saw that the burger came with fries, not the salad - therefore we were charged $14 for a salad we never got. Also, they offered us sparking water, which was a bottle of San Pelligrino which we accepted. However, it appeared on our bill - a charge of $8. For the future, they need to specify that this isn't free. read more

Very good service, OK food. The spicy whipped feta was fine - my mistake to order crackers and cheese since it was heavy and filled me before the rest of the meal came out. The mushroom toast was bland and a bit dry. The ricotta cavatelli was yummy, especially with the pieces of delicata squash. The brussels sprouts were undercooked, so they were too hard for my liking. The pork chop was cooked well (not dry) and served with charred greens and mashed potatoes. It was huge! Nothing wowed me, but everything was solid, so I'll go back since this place is local. read more

Outstanding delivery, one of the best we have had during the Pandemic. We have been wanting to grab some pickup from Buttonwood but kept putting it off -we were thrilled to see they are now offering Delivery. Having dined at Buttonwood pre pandemic I was familiar with their delicious food. I had never tried the BW Cheeseburger and thought having one delivered would not be the same - I was so pleased at how DELICIOUS it was. It arrived still hot, crispy bacon and crispy bun and was SO YUMMY I couldn't stop talking about it. I had been wanting the WB Cheese burger for months and it did not disappoint. We also got extra fries, cornbread (to die for) and the delicious Hudson Valley Duck Shepard's Pie. Everything was absolutely delicious, packaged perfectly and still HOT. Do yourself a favor and order Buttonwood to pick up or DELIVERY. We plan on doing this weekly now. read more

It was a comfortable place for a party of six! The vibe is upbeat and entertaining with friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff! Then we all loved our food - the quality was amazing and the execution was perfect ! Some highlights were the homemade chips with green goddess dip, the pea tendril risotto , the kale salad, the unique chicken wings, the pork chop and the burgers. Everyone was raving! I had the cucumber "mock tail" and the serving glass was beautiful - the combination was unique and so well balanced! (Others said their cocktails were extra delicious too) There is a nice attention to detail in the presentations and the staff presenting them ... Very entertaining ! Had a fantastic dinner tonight. I am embarrassed to say that I can't remember our servers name but she was phenomenal. We had delicious cocktails, fantastic Manhattan, and the Prosecco drink was delicious! The fig appetizer and the cornbread were a perfect start! I had the half chicken and my mouth was watering as soon as it was set down. It was perfectly cooked and all of the components of the dish were so complimentary. Fantastic restaurant that meats anybody's needs. Burger, pasta, fish or fried food all possibilities here. And don't forget fantastic starters and apps and dessert. Truly the entire menu works and fits even though there is no specific category that Buttonwood falls into. Big standouts were the cornbread, sea bass entree, and burger. Cornbread is a must. Tasted like a shortcake and was uniquely fit to get the corners that are always the best part. Sea bass just a thick cut and perfectly cooked fish. Crispy skin and chunks of bacon in the dish made for a savory bite each time. A bit healthier with tomatoes throughout the dish that added some pulp and acidity to each bite when combined. But overall just a great fish even without all the extra sides that are it a must. Burger was just great meat and perfectly cooked- enough said. Bun tasty and presentable and overall a big dish. Beer list changes a lot and unfortunately isn't kept up to date online. But no worries, they will always have a few good IPA and most seemed to be local northeast brews. Pricey on beer side but seemed curated. Dessert was fine and all the entrees and dishes were good in their own way. Service was quick and to the point and as descriptive as needed. Reservations probably preferred, but they did have a bar with about 15 seats that I could see as a good alternative for an impromptu dinner. But Buttonwood makes for a great dinner and should be on top dining lists for all in Newton. read more

This place was wonderful!! I've had this place pinned for a while and I finally bit the bullet and took my boyfriend. We got the the artichoke dip and ribs to start - they were delicious, ribs fell right off the bone and everything was seasoned to perfection. I got the chicken for dinner and my boyfriend got the pork chop. Portions are large and you'll have food to take home for left overs. All of the waiters and bussers were constantly checking in on us to make sure everything was okay. I felt so welcome here, this is a small business I truly stand for. We thought this place was great for what it was - casual but refined American dining. We went on the early side with a party of 6 including a four year old and a six year old - and honestly, the kids chicken fingers might have been the best thing we ate. My wife convinced me to go split-zees which I don't always love. She wanted mussels but I wasn't sold. But once I had them I was glad she did - they were hands-down the best mussels I have ever had. Plump, good flavor - just plain delicious. We also had the chorizo which was also tasty. Sides for the table were also solid. Solid beer and wine options. Overall this was a great spot and we will definitely be returning soon. The only downside I can find is that reservations are hard to come by! read more

SO to our server Josh for being so accommodating considering as a two top we ordered enough for a 6 top. We tried 9 dishes altogether. Although there was some things I would not order again I am glad I tried what I did. That is the purpose of going to an establishment like BW, isn't it? To learn and expand your palate to a degree not previously known. As for the interior as previously reviewed by a Robert D, it did not bother me to have wood panels lining the walls. Arent we here for the food, dude? Despite not being as intimate as some people think they are supposed to be, Buttonwood does a good job of spacing tables to where they maximize headcount and give guests enough room for private conversations. BW is cozy enough for me. If I wanted a highly private conversation I would just stay home. For anyone who is serious about food like myself, the highlight and only thing that is worth reviewing when you choose to eat out is the food and service. I could eat in a dark basement elbow to elbow with my table neighbors as long as the meal is worth the trip. PS: Who goes out to order chicken?! Our first, but not last, trip to Buttonwood. Delicious, socially distanced dinner at the bar. The Moto Guzzi #2 was a much-improved substitue for my usual Manhattan. We started with the spinach & artichoke dip with spicy crackers. and sampled the cornbread with the honey tabasco butter. OMG, you have to try this place. Buttonwood originally opened about 18 months ago and was great, but they had a kitchen fire and because of insurance shenanigans they were closed for almost a year. They just re-opened 2 weeks ago and the food is at least as good as a year ago, if not better. Buttonwood is famous for their spiced crispy pork ribs with a scorched pineapple relish and skillet cornbread with honey Tabasco butter, which are both excellent. Also incredible is their appetizer carrot salad which is flavored with some Middle Eastern spices (no clue what, but delicious). My husband is a big fan of the deviled ham salad snack dish, the Greek salad, and the moules frites. They also have a killer cheeseburger, as well as things like a tomahawk pork chop, a sirloin steak, and a whole roasted cauliflower head for vegetarians. You might hear the names of these dishes and think they sound pedestrian, but everything has a little twist to it, inventive and delicious. Not so avant garde that your family will rebel, but interesting enough to keep you coming back. Buttonwood has a full bar with interesting craft cocktails, a full wine list, and interesting beers on tap. They call themselves a 'neighborhood restaurant,' which must mean that you will want to go back often. That's certainly my take. Welcome back, Buttonwood! Pre pandemic we had been to Buttonwood several times and loved it... we decided to order take out last night and it was SO good!! Our favorites were the squid salad, beet salad, lamb chop and steak.. the meat was prepared to perfection, just as we ordered. We ordered cocktails The Old Fashioned and the Manhattan, delivered in bottles and served two drinks each. They tasted as good as if we were there at the bar! Which we haven't found to always be the case at some other restaurants... we're so excited to have another great option for takeout... note, they also had in/outdoor dinning, there were plenty of folks sitting outside when we arrived... oh, and the brownie for dessert topped off a great meal. read more

New to the neighborhood, I stumbled onto this place and it made quite the impression. Great, welcoming staff that made me feel at home by generously sharing some of their appetizers and desserts. The food was spot on. My husband had the skate and I had a simple yet delicious vegetarian dish. Dessert was a chocolate mouse and a well chosen (Toscanini's) ice cream scoop- compliments of the kitchen. Thanks for making my first meal in the area so memorable.
