Since we were passing by and totally new to the town and surrounding, we just google/yelp but we are so glad that we picked this one over others. The owner/barista was incredibly kind and welcoming. We both have specific dietary preferences and usually prefer drinks with very low sugar. She took the time to listen carefully and recommended something that would suit our taste. I honestly couldn't believe how perfectly she balanced the drink--it had just the right flavor with minimal sugar, exactly the way we like it. What really stood out was her hospitality. The shop itself was neat, organized, and very clean, which immediately made the experience feel comfortable. When she handed us our coffees, she made sure to check that everything was according to our taste and preference. That personal touch meant a lot. Their **menu also looked very unique**, with some really interesting drink options that you don't usually see at typical coffee places. If we ever drive through that route again, we will absolutely make it a point to stop at **Coffee Kitchen**. I truly feel the town is lucky to have small businesses and people like this who care so much about their customers. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

It's a gorgeous marriage between a croissant and a butter roll seasoned with just the right amount of salt. As I was leaving, the owner gave me a bag of salt bread croutons dusted with cinnamon sugar. The sweet potato brioche loaf was pretty solid, too. Pass on the matcha cookie. I was bummed that the coffee bingsu is no longer a menu item.

Hunt for the best blueberry donut continued…read more Helen's has got a decent fan base so I went in search of the best blueberry donut. I tried them in the past apparently because I have photos associated to that visit (even bought a dozen). I obviously didn't remember until I started writing this review. First the location is pretty easy to reach. Small strip mall store front off Portland Ave. I walked in and there were two people ahead of me but no seating and hardly room to view the selection. There is a plastic COVID screen still up and pictures of people who have stolen from them. The selection of donuts is decent and apparently on the weekends there are speciality fritters. The owner operators are kind and so helpful (high praises!). I ordered one blueberry donut and one banana fritter. Both appeared to be well cooked and scrumptious. However, each of the donuts were over fried and tasted like old grease. The blueberry cake was full of blueberries but no real blueberry taste. The fritter was soaked in grease and no banana flavor. Sadly this is not on my list to try again.

Five stars hands-down I went to the dentist this morning right up the street and told them they need to start coming here and getting their donuts stop going to high large corporate chains when they buy donuts for their staff.

He happens to need things that are lower in sugar content and we tried to order a strawberry mango smoothie. The employee Jonah was absolutely unprofessional, he took our order and he asked if I wanted a lid for my ice cream and I said yes. When it came time for my fiancé to order he ordered a strawberry mango smoothie which we had just seen another customer have made by another employee. Jonah flat out refused to make the item saying that they could not and also did not give me a lid on my ice cream or a spoon when finished with payment. I had to ask for a lid and realized that I did not have a spoon at this point either and his attitude got even worse and more unprofessional. Both of us felt extremely uncomfortable with the way this employee was conducting himself and did not feel safe in this particular location at time of service. We will not be returning here anytime soon and corporate needs to take a real review of how this location is doing and do something about the customer service and quality control issues. Simply put our special anniversary date was ruined by the incompetence of an unhappy employee who did not want to serve customers.

There's also another Marvel location in Auburn. Ironically, this is across the street from Saar's, another large international market. I made the trek back on 3/1/25. I was very impressed with the organized, well stocked variety of goods. I've become quite fascinated with international and ethnic centric markets. It was quite enjoyable slowly wandering each aisle. I ended up focusing on breads, kvass, smoked and canned meats, cheeses, soup bases, ajvar, chocolates, and biscuits....before I knew it my cart was getting a bit full! Pro tip: bring a cooler to keep your perishables safe on lengthy treks. There are comparable but smaller shops in North Seattle, Shoreline, Lynnwood, and Everett. But if you're in Tacoma/South Sound, this is a great detour for Eastern European groceries and culinary fans!
