December 2025: i saw that they were selling sufganiyots during this month and i never had one before so i was intrigued. i only got two since i wasn't sure if i would like it or not and when i tried it, i knew i should have gotten more. if i were to compare it to something else, it would be similar to a jelly doughnut, EXCEPT SUFGANIYOTS ARE WAY BETTER! the sufganiyot was soft and not dry, it reminded me of a biscuit but soft and fluffy. and the inside had this, i believe a raspberry or strawberry jam that paired so well with the doughy exterior. it was also not too sweet, just how i like it!!!! this pastry was honestly one of the best things i've ever eaten, i'm not even exaggerating. IT WAS THAT GOOD. LIKE WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THIS?!?! UGH I WAS SO MAD because by the time i ate my sufganiyot, i was already at work, and i wasn't gonna be in the area until the new year, so i literally called the bakery a few days later asking them if they were still selling them after new years and they said the item will only be selling in december. NOOOOOOOOOOO, I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE END OF 2026 TO EAT THEM AGAIN??? lol, it's fine. i can wait. but yeah, when the holidays come around, go to By the Way Bakery, and don't sleep on these!!! February 2026: recently, i helped throw a going away party for a coworker at my job and i suggested that we get a cake from By the Way Bakery even though i never had any of their cakes before. but i've had a bunch of their other items so, i was certain that their cakes would be a hit too. so my coworker got their classic chocolate cake and honestly, i thought it way too sweet. like it definitely tasted good, don't get me wrong. but personally for me, it was quite rich and i had to drink water in between bites because of how chocolatey it was. everyone at my job enjoyed it though so i'm happy they were pleased with my recommendation.

    Gluten free Birthday Cake

Helene and her team were incredible! They went above and beyond to accommodate a birthday cake order outside their usual business hours, and truly made my day so special as a gluten-free girlie. My guests couldn't even tell the cake was gluten-free. I can't wait to come back and try more of their desserts and pastries because this cake was absolutely amazing.

We preordered a Vanilla Raspberry cake for our wedding day, and it was absolutely delicious! Their website preorder was easy to use, and they also made it easy for our friend to pick up for us. They packaged the cake for safe travel with a spacious box and bag. We also highly recommend the coconut crème cake. Definitely coming back!

For a gluten-free bakery, I actually enjoyed all the things I got ! VANILLA CREAM PUFF - really nice dusting of powdered sugar on top, soft pastry surrounding a nice silky cream inside. Really couldn't even tell that it was gluten free. This gets a 5/5 APPLE CRULLER - this felt a bit grainy/dry in texture as many gluten free desserts tend to be, but the apple flavor was fresh, fragrant, and the frosting was quite nice. You can tell this place focuses on quality ingredients and craftiness which helps a lot since a lot of gluten-free desserts in my experience just don't make the mark. I would definitely consider to this to my gluten-free friends and wouldn't mind going back to see what else I might find! The interior is also beautiful and quaint. No real place to sit. Service was kind.

I stopped by and picked up a mini chocolate bundt cake for my wife. She is very discerning, so I was ecstatic that she enjoyed it. Gluten-free products can be pricey, but this was reasonably priced considering the Upper East Side location

I'm always sure to pick up some allergen-free treats for family from here every time I head home! This place has ingredient lists for everything on their website and a great selection of fresh baked goods - a rare find when limiting certain common baking ingredients. While the baked goods speak for themselves, I've found it's easiest to get any specific questions answered online, as the staff can sometimes seem a bit preoccupied.

$6.50 each for Apple Cake and Pumpkin Bundt $6.00 for Lemon Poppy Seed
    Sheri S.

Nice, cute, but narrow bakery on the Upper West side. If you don't know what you are looking for, you can easily miss it. I love a good origin story. The one behind, By The Way Bakery, was quite interesting to me because it was founded by a former attorney turned Bakery owner and it was a very strategically planned business endeavor. On this particular day, I was specifically interested in the gluten free carrot cake. However, upon entry I was told that the carrot cakes are sold whole and not by the slice. That was disappointing news to me. So, I looked for alternative pastries that sparked my interest. Which, led me to choose, the Apple Cake and Pumpkin Bundt cake each for $6.50, and the Lemon Poppy Seed for $6.00. The surprise favorite was the Pumpkin Bundt. My hope is that they listen to customer requests and get the carrot cake in slices for easier purchase instead of having to buy a whole mini-cake.

Friedman's d/b/a Gayle's Broadway Rose where there are singing servers who are struggling actors/actresses attempting to get into the acting/stage/film industry while working in the food service restaurant business. I did not experience the singing servers during my patronized visit. Upon entering the Maître d' announced "right now, we're only seating at the bar counter not at tables," so why do I see patrons sitting at booth tables? Oh! It was somewhat busy but not at full capacity for full-on hustle bustle busy. Seating for one, please. Me, myself and I. Friedman's is located adjacent to Hotel Edison and restroom facility is in the hotel's lobby. Access to Hotel Edison's facility is limited as the hotel's staff will stop all who enter as I am not a hotel guest. I believe Friedman's is very overhype, and overrated. My male server/waiter calls all the female patrons "love" which does not bother me and does not irk me at all. But please do not call me "babe", "baby", "mamma" or "mommy" as these are too sexist, outdated and stereotype in some cultures/race directed at women. Friedman's is certainly a modern American luncheonette. No comment for alcohol as I not order any. There are no business cards for keepsake. Pastrami on rye $26.00 Mustard, pickle and vinegar chips The meat heavily embedded with a lot of white fat stretched and stuck together when bitten. The meat tasted very bland lacking flavor. The pastrami is NOT brined, seasoned certainly not smoked and not a hot sandwich. It is not cured pastrami. The mustard was mild spicy which gave the meat a zesty kick for aliveness, but very minimally applied. The pickle was average. The vinegar chips were very stale and harden. The rye bread was average with caraway seeds which was blah. I am uninterested in caraway seeds. Katz's Delicatessen continues to reign supreme in pastrami on rye as the meat is excessively abundant quantity piled high and very flavorful taste without the need of mustard or mayo condiment. I prefer this sandwich accompanied with fries like Katz's Delicatessen offers. At the bottom of the sales receipt there is a suggested gratuity in intervals of 20%, 22% and 25% where customers do not have to perform math calculation. I was able to obtain my sales receipt as keepsake.

Anyway, he rang something up again, which was fine but then he said something about refunding it, but the receipt he showed was for two sodas. A refund was unnecessary and nothing we asked for.
