I've been going for a 30 minute walk every morning to get my day started. It's the only way I've found to calm my self destructive internal monologue. Everyday is a beautiful struggle. Today I stopped in at Padoca Bakery to grab an iced americano, as I'm trying a different local coffee shop everyday. There were 3 employees in this tiny space, and it was inspirational watching them flow. I wish you could have seen it. Watching them utilize this small space together felt like watching the 2014 San Antonio Spurs play basketball. Playing together as a unit, making the right play just off instinct. The iced americano took 4 minutes from ordering to in my hand, and was a solid 8/10. These morning coffee walks, just being outside and around people, really help me realize that everything is okay. They help keep the intrusive thoughts of "what am I doing with my life" and "Okay you did a good job on that, but what's next?" at bay. It's okay to just be in the moment and enjoy life a bit. I absolutely love their cakes! I ordered my civil ceremony cake from Padoca and it was perfect from start to finish. What really stood out was how many ways I could personalize it--flavor, cake shape, size, color, and decorations. It truly felt custom without being overwhelming. It was a bit cold, but otherwise a solid product. For the size and overall quality, this did feel overpriced, but I guess this is what you get from a boutique bakery cafe in the UES. Last week we ordered a six-inch Orange Olive Oil Pink Sprinkle Cake with vanilla mascarpone filling and vanilla buttercream icing--and it looked great but was the worst-tasting cake I or my partner, whose birthday it was, had ever eaten. We have had traditional Greek olive oil cake from an esteemed Greek restaurant in Manhattan, which was dry and flakey, and we were expecting something like that. But this cake was the heaviest and densest cake ever. I picked it up at 3:30, and we ate it at 9pm, so it had plenty of time to come to room temperature. It basically was almost dripping olive oil, and that is what you tasted: olive oil, no orange. The buttercream was basically butter--also very, very dense and heavy. Oddly, this place refers to their cakes as being "light"; that is not even remotely our experience. Unfortunately, our digestions were also thrown for a loop, or a lead weight, so to speak, so the negative effects went beyond just taste and texture for several days. Judging by the other reviews, I just have to assume that there is a subset of people in New York who love very heavy, dense, and oily cake. I am not in that club. read more

You place your customizable order on their website and then can send a separate email with any specific instructions, such as what you'd like for an inscription and any notes about delivery. I did local delivery, which is $20. They were very quick to confirm the details from my first email. On the day of, I was able to track delivery, which I appreciated. The cake looked great and tasted even better! I had ordered a small pink sprinkle celebration sheet cake with vanilla cake and silky Biscoff cookie butter filling/vanilla buttercream. The cake was moist and flavorful, with the cookie butter filling tasting mostly like caramel. It was a thick cake, so I'd recommend leaving it at room temperature for the full suggested two hours before serving. I highly recommend Padoca Bakery for any of your bakery needs! The coffee was clearly burnt, but the latte had a spoiled flavor to it. New location for this bakery. It used to be on 1st Ave and was closed down during the pandemic. The new place is a very cute cafe style with outdoor seating. It's close to the bus stop on 67th St. I got the vegan apple cider donut. It's actually pretty good for vegan (speaking as someone who isn't vegan). A little bit oily though and I usually like it more firm. This is more cake-y. Good with tea. I'll have to try the other baked goods and sandwiches. Extra star goes to the cafe ambiance. Looks like a great place to enjoy coffee and pastries if you can get an outdoor seating. It's about 2 small tables outside, so it fills up quickly in the morning. My coworker is in LOVE with this cake and only in vanilla. I think it's the mascarpone. I love the shape and the way the colorful sprinkles and decorated. It's very expensive for a small cake but we have a loyal customer. You can add on candles and utensils to help bring this along to any picnic. Great upscale treat! I absolutely love this place. They have the best coffee on the UES. The PDQs are amazing. I get them fresh and also their frozen cook-at-home bags...my kids love them so they are a real life saver when out of breakfast ideas! Inside the shop, there are only two small tables for 2 to sit at and it can get pretty crowded easily. The ambiance is very bright and cheery though which makes the waiting a pleasant experience.
