I went here to meet some friends on their way to a house birthday party. I like the set up inside. You can tell they have a very local client base that come there all the time. The bar is filled with a lot of TVs everywhere. Most people there were there watching the basketball games going on for March madness. I recently threw a surprise birthday party here. The owner Pat went out of his way to be accommodating in the planning process and our server Brooklyn was super attentive to the guests. This was an awesome venue and atmosphere-it felt relaxed and comfortable, fun and lively. Byrne's is a classic neighborhood bar! The wings are amazing! Classic mild buffalo sauce with ranch is all you need. They are perfectly crunchy on the outside without being dry inside. Their wraps are also delicious! The nachos are large and in one word, yummy! The staff is great. If you walk in expecting a resort or CM restaurant you'll probably leave a bad review. If you're a normal person with good taste and appreciate a local hangout where the quality is at a peak and restrooms aren't meant for socializing, come to Byrnes. Enjoy! read more

Went to Byrne's briefly last night with a lovely fellow yelper... I liked it right when we walked in because, as we discussed, it IS a pub, not just a bar that thinks its a pub (hey, they even have a license plate on the wall that reads, in abbreviated form, "Pog Mo Thon" - Gaelic for "kiss me arse," of course). This Irish themed pub is pretty cute - they even had a darts league (I think) going on in the other room. In terms of Irish pub paraphernalia, I almost think they coulda gone whole hog - maybe put some football or hurling scarves up, really dig into that working class/hooligan feel - because this place certainly isn't going for classy. It was about 11pm, and there were definitely some very drunk (most likely neighborhood regulars?) hanging out - ahhh, just like at MY neighborhood bar (shout out to O'Reilly's in Clintonville!). We each had a beer to end off the night, but the bartender was slightly pushy about us getting another (we didn't), and then proceded to ignore us when we tried pay our tab to leave. I don't blame him, I totally get it - this is a neighborhood bar. Locals get first dibs on service. It wouldn't stop me from coming back, but being in Grandview... I'll stop in if I'm around but won't go out of my way to get over there (wayyyyyyyy over in Grandview!). All in all, A-OK. read more

This is a great neighborhood pub! I wish it was closer to our neighborhood. They manage to get great Irish music all the time, not just for St. Patrick's day. They pour the best pints in town! Great neighborhood bar, relaxed feel, friendly people. The kind of place you can go by yourself, and you'll always feel welcomed. There's lots of reviews you can look at here, but here's my ideas on a few of the topics listed in other reviews below: 1. The staff: yeah, some are mean. But most of them are great! They are busy, busy, busy. Imagine if someone was screaming at you to get them a drink 40 hours a week! Would you always be all smiles and glitter? 2. The bathrooms: the women's bathrooms are just fine. I've never seen them dirty. I bet on St. Patrick's Day they get a little gross, but that's a special occurance. I know the guys have to pee next to a shower curtain. The girls don't, so don't worry about it. 3. The pizza: the best in Grandview, in my opinion. 4. The decor: you can't compare this pub to a chain establishment like Brazenhead or Claddagh- those places came out of a factory. Byrne's is the real thing. So real, in fact, that much of their stuff on the wall came from a private Irish-American clubhouse when it moved locations. Every picture has a story- take the time to look at a few of them: you'll be entertained. 5. The Guinness: some of the best in town. These guys actually know how to pour it right- they respect the Guinness, and you can tell. A disclaimer: Please don't use the word "paddy", as in "St. Paddy's Day". It just isn't nice. Great Irish pub... the only complaint I have is the quality of the restrooms, not that they are dirty because they are decently well kept, but they are small and I never seem to get the stalls to lock in the womens restroom. My family has frequented this bar even before I was of legal drinking age, so I'm happy to say this is the location I spent the night of my 21 birthday. Since then I've been visiting fairly often to check out a live band, or even just to hang out. I'm not sure why the bartenders are getting such bad reveiws eaither, I've never had a problem with any of them and they often are very interesting to talk to and discuss their lives with, when they arnt busy. When they are busy its impossible for them to be able to be the friendliest simply because they are constantly running back and forth making drinks for demanding customers... All in all I really love this place and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes a cold guiness poured correctly! read more

I've been to Byrne's quite a few times since it's in stumbling distance from my house. It's very much a "pub" in vibe and decor. The crowd is mostly in their late 30s and up, and I've always had a decent time here (old drunk locals are the best) and unlike most other bars in Grandview, this one is never completely dead, even on weekdays, which is groovy, because if you're not drinking with other people than you're just an alcoholic! Cheers! I've seen a few live acts here, and when there are bands performing the pretty spacious bar gets uncomfortably crowded. They also usually have a cover on these nights, and it's usually not worth it (drink prices aren't cheap, on top of that.) But all in all, a place worth stopping in for a pint! read more

Byrne's was a good discovery for me as somewhere new to hang out on the weekend in the Grandview area. It's a pretty small pub with the bar in one room and another room with tables, chairs and a stage where Bluegrass music takes place from 7-9pm every Friday. Fridays and Saturdays this place gets pretty packed, but always found the atmosphere comfortable and definitely very casual. Like Peter C. said, you'd never feel under-dressed or out of place here. They have a good draft beer selection and make a nice gin and tonic. My only beef is that I find the bartenders more dismissive than your average (and I alllllways tip well and am polite, which hasn't really ever proved effective for me), but it's not too bad. I like it because the crowd isn't overwhelmingly one age or persuasion, just a mix of pretty laid-back people. You might even catch Gramps jigging to the bluegrass alongside a 21 year old enthusiast. Another plus was that last time I was there, I went to the back area (where the bathrooms and several arcade games are) to use my phone and witnessed a stumblingly drunk couple try to sneak into the utility closet to bump uglies (It wouldn't have been pretty, trust me), only to have a slightly intimidating older staff member open the door and ask sternly, "What's going on here?" The lovestruck couple sloshed out of the room and the girl proceeded to accidentally slide into the splits on the floor at the same time she confessed she was just trying to have sex with her boyfriend's best friend. This didn't strike me as giving Byrne's a skanky characteristic, more like a charmingly normal occurrence. read more

A great local pub / dive in the very hip Grandview area of Columbus. Very nice staff who know how to pour a great Guinness. Very nice selection of beers. They have live music and that's always a treat. They serve Grandad's Pizza from their location next door. Absolutely delicious!!! read more

I'm a fan or Irish pubs but this one is off the mark despite some of the raving reviews, (I'm sure most of them by regulars). I've been here a few times, enough to finally judge this place as a no go for me. Management and bar staff absolutely do nothing about some of the annoying piss drunk customers (mostly regulars and old timers) who go around tables bother other patrons who don't even know them, with vulgarity and invasive talk, racist jokes, and all the typical drunk slandering. One guy who I'm told works there part time as a bouncer was going around during one of our visits, annoying other tables and butting in strangers conversations. Obviously nothing was done about that behavior. I guess if you tolerate drunk douchery by some regulars here then this spot might work for you. Otherwise, tons of other bars nearby where you don't have to deal with that while trying to enjoy a beer with friends. read more

Probably one of my favorite grandview bars. For one, I don't think I've ever had to pay a cover and they have live music more often than not. The patio is smaller than most bars, but it is open year round - they enclose it and there are heaters and tvs out there. Only downside is the patio can become a bit heavy on the smoking during the winter. My favorite part about Byrne's is it has this magical way of never seeming overly crowded, no matter how busy it is - and it will get quite busy on saturday nights. The music on stage is often irish or bluegrass and it a great way to relax from the weekend. Not to sound old - but it's never too loud that you can't still talk to your friends. Probably best categorized as a dive bar, but with all the perks of a popular bar. One of the great perks is Grandad's pizza which shares the building with Byrne's. You can order pizza at the bar and it will be 'delivered' to your table. Not 5-star pizza - unless you've had 5+ drinks though. Bathrooms are little sketchy with a shower curtain acting as a door inside the men's bathroom. read more

I know I've written 1-2 reviews about Bryne's, but somehow they are no longer here. I've visited Bryne's on various weekday and weekend nights and have always loved the location, atmosphere, employees, and patrons. They have various artists playing on different nights and we usually make it for the Bluegrass gigs, which get your feet tapping. They have a small window connecting Bryne's with Grandad's Pizza next door, what an awesome partnership as it is some of the best thin crust pizza in town. Now, Bryne's has their own menu with appetizers, salads, and sandwiches, so the pizza menu is very limited to about 5-6 different pizzas only. This time around we had the chicken sandwich, which was juicy and had the perfect seasoning! It was "heavy" on the bread, but still delicious. We also couldn't pass up a Grandad's pizza and had a 7" veggie and buffalo chicken. Although it takes longer than usually to get a pizza, it was quite tasty. The veggie pizza was a little light on the cheese, but it was still fantastic! For the first time we had the buffalo chicken pizza and WHOA, baby did it have a kick to it! Be prepared to have some beer to calm the taste buds so you can gobble the next piece down. It was yummy and would be on the docket to order again. The service is great! The place was packed on a Friday night and our server was able to keep track of us as we wandered, settled, wandered, and settled throughout the evening. She was on top of our drinks and food and made sure we were taken care of no matter where we were in the pub. Byrne's Pub is a great local establishment to Grandview and I would recommend it to anyone. read more

I have been to Byrnes roughly 10 times since moving to Columbus in 2015 and absolutely love coming here to drink when I am in the Grandview area. Everyone is friendly and it is a classic dive bar. This past Saturday was the first time I ever sat down and ate a meal of food. I got the French onion soup and the hot wings. The French onion soup was pretty bad, extremely salty and wasn't hot. The wings and service made up for it. I was surprised that they would be serving 50 cent wings on a Saturday. The wings aren't the biggest but were solid for the price. My friend also got a burger which he really enjoyed. The two servers who helped us were attentive and friendly. I would definitely dine here again. read more

The bar and music area are connected but separated by a divider so that people can enjoy the music on stage in relative isolation from the noise of the neighborhood bar. Meh, Byrne's Pub wasn't anything to write home about. I think I might be too young to appreciate a crowd that old and that into sports. I felt vaguely uncomfortable while sipping my beer and playing darts with my fellow drink companions. Looking around, everyone else was in sports related shirts, sweatshirts, and ball caps covering up their thinning hair. Great bar. I play darts here frequently in a league. Food is available, and I had the chicken sandwich. It was pretty tasty and affordable. Also, try the steak fries. Byrne's has live music, and there is often no cover. So, go check out some irish or bluegrass music. The interior is a little dark and dive-y, but I would say that is part of the charm. We happened upon this place while driving around town Saturday taking in the city and decided to stop in for a late lunch Saturday around 3pm. The menu isn't extensive but has all the bar food staples plus some healthy wrap options. We decided to split a veggie wrap and share the sauerkraut balls. (Yes, I know - weird combination.) The wrap was light and very fresh with a simple blend of lettuce, sprouts, tomatoes, cucumber and provolone cheese with a light dressing. The sauerkraut balls were very good. They were probably a bit too large in size, I think I would have preferred them to be more bite size but the wasabi dipping sauce was a very unique and tasty condiment! Overall, we had a good experience, it was fairly empty but looked like a place that could have a decent night crowd. read more

Come here on St. Patrick's Day, that is for sure! Since I don't live in Grandview anymore, I'm finding myself exploring and reacquainting with places I've never been but always heard about.... This is standard pub, dingy, dank, sweaty at times, serves Guinness of course and perfect for the local barfly. What I like about this place is that it has a genuine feel. It is not trying too hard like Fado's or is too hipster like Brazenhead. This place is the real deal and let's you be you while all the others around you drinking feel at home as well. I really enjoyed the live bagpipe music, Celtic band, and Irish music in a packed crowd under the tent. I'd come here again every year. read more

I went here on a beautiful, sunny evening to enjoy the patio and have some good pub grub. Really should have read the reviews first. I ordered a chili dog just for kicks, and it looked like a shrunken cocktail weenie on a mini stale no name bun, smothered in stale chili. My friend ordered a BLT slider that looked like some form of extraterrestrial bacon jerky. We shared the hummus which had no flavor at all, and was accompanied by stale pita and chunks of dried out cucumber. Clearly, this is a place to go to get really drunk, not to eat. The only way I can imagine the food to be edible is if the person consuming it is super inebriated. The server was so rude and abrupt that my friend and I actually burst out laughing. read more

Solid live music venue with friendly staff. There are other bars with bluegrass bands, but Byrne's is the stage of choice for the more traditional acts. The food can be hit and miss but the pizza from Grandad's next door is always a hit. They've also got free popcorn if you need something to nosh between beers. Byrne's Pub is a gem when you don't feel like going out, but would still like to throw back a few drafts with some friends. It's a very casual pub atmosphere with lots of neighborhood regulars. It's a relaxed environment which is perfect to go watch a sports event on TV and order Grandad's pizza next door. I'd be lying if I told you I don't show up to Byrne's in sweatpants every now and then, which is a compliment to any bar because it means I am comfortable there. I haven't been there for the bands yet but on Monday they host quiz night to test your trivia which is a good time. The bartenders and servers are always super friendly and bring another round. It's also a perfect pub: sufficiently dark lighting, friendly but not too friendly bar tenders that serve you quickly, and plenty of space to throw darts. Now - take all of that and throw it out the window on a Saturday night. Fridays aren't too bad, but Saturday night is usually crowded, hard to get a drink, and the crowd sucks. I must say I use to dislike Byrnes. It was grown on me a lot. I enjoy the Irish, Celtic bands that play there. If you get there early you're in good shape but on the weekends if you come late be prepared to stand and be crowded. The beer is Ok priced but the imported beer is a little pricy. I was drinking Smithwicks one night and next thing you know I had a $75.00 tab. NOT Cool. Can't forget about Joel (bartender) is one of the BEST bartenders at any bar I have ever been.
