Took my family, and we loved this place. Granted, they are Browns fans, but hey, we all don't make good choices, and this is about food. 1. They let you get nearly every dish half-portion for half-price. Glad to see 80s portion control is still alive somewhere. I mean, hey, we all don't need Cheesecake Factory epic portions. Smaller plates for lesser appetites? Huge plus. 2. In line with #1, my kids can eat 'adult' plates as they can get the smaller portion. Novel, huh? 3. Staff was great, fun conversation, and who knew we went to high school, in the 90s, down the street from one another. Now consider that street was an autobahn in Germany and viola, small world. In any event, wouldn't have know if the staff wasn't friendly and willing to talk to customers. 4. And the food was great. But my fingers are now tired of typing. 5. One star, you say? Perhaps it was the unpleasant, obese and drunken barfly who greeted us with a glazed-over "and you walked in even though the open light was off?", when the light was on (it was just after 9:00). Perhaps it was the server who acted as though she was working there against her will. Perhaps it is the Chuck E. Cheese-ish quality of the pizza or the cold wings. Perhaps it was the bartender that overcharged us for our beer and then shortchanged us upon payment. So many reasons to give this establishment a single star. I'll settle for this: Tucson simply deserves better. Any city does, really. But in a place as gastronomically diverse and pizza powered as the the Old Pueblo, I can't imagine how a place like this keeps the doors open. It lacked any redeeming qualities whatsoever. As someone who spent the first 30+ years of my life in Tucson this place, in the end, just left me sad. Do yourself a favor and eat at any one of the hundred plus pizzerias in town that actually care about what they do. read more

I went to BZ's tonight because of the great food reviews and a recommendation. When arriving at the bar, I was told they were short staffed and asked was that ok... fine...totally understand this is a problem everywhere. Ordered a Chianti and one of their signature pizzas. After about 50-55 minutes, a pizza was being delivered to me but it was the wrong pizza, not what I ordered. Ok, got a comp glass of wine and apologies. Another 35-40 minutes goes by... still no food and no management was ever to be seen or found to address issues. Basically the staff was on their own. Paid for a wine and left. Such a disappointing experience... really wished I could have given this place a great review... don't go unless you have tons of patience. A better experience at other restaurants is definitely out there. read more

Ok don't let the decor fool you into believing this is not a good restaurant...I was hesitant when I first walked in but glad we stayed. We had the bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers and lunch special (half salad and mini pizza). The caprese salad was fresh and I loved the pizza. The crust was cracker thin and had a nice light flavor. The texture is very appealing. The service was excellent as well! To top it all off they offered a military discount which was much appreciated! read more

Food, beer & service was great. We got the garlic knots, Gorgonzola salad, pepperoni pizza, & portobello ravioli. Loved the ravioli sauce (we were told most of their sauces are homemade), and plan to try the lobster ravioli on our next visit. The pizza crust was crispy but the inside was soft so would recommend requesting well done. Our son liked adding their ranch dressing to his pizza. read more

Great draft beer selection (30 taps) with quite a few local choices which is always nice to see. My wife got the half spinach salad and the white balsamic was INSANELY amazing. Service was on point which is a huge star getter for me. Since it was just my wife and I we didn't get a pizza this time around. I got the BZs dip sandwich and she got the meatball sub. Amoroso rolls are a nice touch and the 1.00 up charge for the curly fries over chips is totally worth it. And the sandwich was very good. I'm not a huge fan of green peppers but that is my fault, so no loss for them. Very good au jus, not just liquid salt like some places. read more

We ordered Fettuccine Alfredo, Spaghetti, and Garlic Knots for pickup. It was all really good, and the Fettuccine was fantastic. The garlic bread that came with it was also excellent. It was so good, a couple days later we got two orders of Fettuccine Alfredo. This time, it didn't appear to have any alfredo sauce on it. It was basically just Fettuccine and some parmesan. It was awful. The garlic bread was also really disappointing. We couldn't even taste the garlic. It's a shame because if they were consistent, this would have been our go to for Italian. read more

It was my first time to BZ's but I had gotten rave reviews from a coworker. So upon entering we were greeted by the owner right away. He was extremely friendly but super distracted....seemed he was the only server in the restaurant at 6:00 on a Tuesday night. There was a guy playing music which offered some entertainment. One TV for the restaurant. Huge bar with no liquor license. The menu was expansive. So many options. Seemed a bit overpriced but he assured us it is because all of the food is homemade and from scratch. Our table ordered the wings, the Brie, the antipasto salad, the chicken Parma, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken Alfredo. I thought the dressing for the antipasto was completely wrong as it was really very sweet and not at all savory. The wings were yummy. The chicken parm was good. The spaghetti sauce did seem to be homemade but lacked some spice. My son really enjoyed the Alfredo. Overall I will likely try this place again because I did get the sense the food was homemade and it was a local family business but next time we will stick to the pizza and probably order take out as I am not sure about coming back for environment or service. read more

Kitchen is being renovated and I was craving a simple spaghetti and meatball. As simple as that sounds - a GOOD plate of spaghetti and meatballs is not really as simple as that sounds. Hard to find just the right meatballs with just the right seasoning and softness. I was willing to drive more than 10 miles for this plate of comfort food but spent time researching and then couldn't believe this gem was right up the road! Great feel inside. Let me preface this by saying that my smartphone screen is getting nice and oily b/c I am writing this while finishing off my calzone...sans utensils. Bare handed like one giant glorious Hot Pocket. If only Hot Pockets actually tasted this good... Anyway, it was my first time to this restaurant, and it definitely won't be my last! Apparently this facility is new. The restaurant moved to this location a week or so ago, but the restaurant itself has been around for about 5 years. I have mixed feelings about finding out this news. Happy that I found a pizza/calzone joint that I will be a regular at, but sad that I have been missing out on their delicious food for the past 5 years. They are still putting the finishing touches on this place. I can't wait to go back when everything is 100% set! The bf and I were making it a Blockbuster, er...Netflix night. ;) We were in desperate need of take out. We each ordered a calzone. You select the fillings from a list. The bf got his with mushrooms, onions, and eggplant. I chose artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and pesto for mine. They came with a side of marinara sauce. I loved mine so much, I ate it without!! After visiting several east side pizza places over the last couple of weeks in our quest for a.) decent pizza, b.) with bar service and c.) a decent atmosphere where we felt encouraged to stay and enjoy the pizza rather than take it home to eat, my wife and I decided to visit BZ's last night. We were pleasantly surprised. We ordered what the restaurant calls "The Goodfella" ... The pizza was among the best we've had in Tucson. A good, thin crust, generous toppings and excellent sauce. My wife, not a beer drinker, decided to have a beer with the pizza. Unsure what to chose, our server offered her a small sample of one of the beers on tap. Outstanding! And, though the lighting at our table was too dim to read the menu without some effort, the atmosphere was otherwise very comfortable. It's difficult to rate the service. Any failing can probably be attributed to management rather than to our server ... who ran her buns off (and I mean she was literally running!) to take care of everyone in her section. The only thing that might have improved our servers performance would be perhaps one more server on duty. Was the service a little slow? Yes. We witnessed a table of customers leave after drinks but before they placed their order because of their own impatience. Was the service as good as it was humanly possible under the circumstances? Under the circumstances, I thought the service was as good as it could have possibly been ... and tipped accordingly (ie. more than I normally would). Will we go back? Definitely. The pizza was worth any small inconvenience that we might have experienced resulting from our server not being super-human, but doing everything humanly possible to accommodate her guests. read more

I had my doubts. I walked in with a craving for calzones. I ordered a mushroom, onion, and eggplant calzone. Probably one of the best calzone I had. The place looked like it should have had more people. Then I found out its only been open for a week. This place is probably not gonna be empty for long. I'll Def be there again I had it to go. I've been here a few times now and there just isn't a darn thing in the negative column to check off. The first time I went , I was over on the super East side of town and we (wife and I) were in the mood for wine Italian...but not just pizza and we wanted to take it home. This was, of course, B.C.V..(before corona virus) so we still had the option to dine I or take it with us. Now this part may not seem like much, but in so many instances,it can make or break a dining experience. Upon this particular visit, it was simply icing on the cake as the food spoke for itself. The service...just ridiculous. This gentleman may have been in his 30s or early 40s, the place was pretty busy and he and one waitress had the whole restaurant to themselves. If he'd taken twice as long and even forgotten something, I couldn't and wouldnt have called him on it. Instead he just decided to make everything happen. The poop was hitting the fan, but these two and the kitchen crew of 2 or three cooks were just killin it. I was easily persuaded into an appetizer of the homemade jalapeño poppers and I would be writing an entire different review a month from now had the barkeep NOT talked me into them. These were long and thin jalapeños w a little cream cheese and wrapped bacon. No breading or anything...just good old fashioned jalapeño poppers with some good heat. I also had some pizza that was pretty darn good and my wife had a spaghetti and meatballs that she liked a lot. She is a stickler for meatballs so if they lived up to her standards...that means a lot. At any rate, livin on the East side just got a little bette since I've discovered BZs. First time my husband and I ate at BZ Pizza & Italian Kitchen. We were socializing our dog at Petco and asked if this restaurant is dog friendly. The owner greeted us and said, "Of course!" and welcomed our large german shepherd into their outside patio. He quickly brought water for our dog and told us about their lunch special - 1/2 a salad & personal pizza. The portions are huge - 1/2 a salad is a large serving and the crust on the pizza is nice and thin. The pizza was delicious and we will definitely return. It is nice to find places that allow dogs because it can be hard to socialize dogs right now. Service was attentive and quick. read more

The portabella raviolis and garlic bread were so yummy! They come with white sauce but I asked for tomato sauce and they were very accommodating, substituting red sauce. Artichoke hearts were mixed in with the raviolis. There was a small band playing and they were really good and not too loud. read more

Food: This place is close to where we live and I'm so sad that we just now tried it!! I would drive further than the 10 minutes to get this good of pizza! This thin crust pizza ranks in my top 3 pizzas in Tucson. Fresh ingredients, crispy crust, amazing meats & baked to perfection. Amazing beer selection! Service: Amazing! They are so friendly here. Greeted promptly and taken to our booth. Waitress was very attentive and continually checking back to make sure food was good and to see if we needed anything else. Atmosphere: Family friendly. Great for date night, family nights out or a group gathering. Wide open spaces with booths, tables, big bar area as well as a little game area for the kiddos. Very clean and well put together. We have been to BZs a few times, now. I like to give a place a few tries before I make a strong review. Each time has been a 5 star experience! The first time, we ordered individual dishes. A couple times after that, we got the pizza. We have even ordered pizza for carry-out a couple times. The food is always delicious, the staff is friendly, and it is a very clean, fun atmosphere. We went here on a recomendation that was apparently based on their original location. We arrived to this run down looking place smelling delicious food. We were never greeted so after nearly 10 minutes we hunted down staff to inquire about seating. This guy had the audacity to ask us about reservations with 5 tables opened and mix matched old chairs. We were directed to a table that was in the back next to a rolling cart with coolers and other random crap on them. We were there for about 15 minutes and never received menus, nor were acknowledged so we finally decided to leave to the restaurant next door. read more
