The best breakfast I had for a long time! INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS!! I definitely want to go back!

Ordered: Merguez Sandwich (~$15) w Avocado (+$3): beef sausage, scrambled eggs, and Vermont cheddar cheese in homemade roll Aya's take: C&B is located right across the street from Tompkins Square Park and with an almost guaranteed line outside, you can't miss it! We decided to get breakfast sandwiches here and there were maybe 10 people ahead of us in line. We probably waited about 10-15 mins total which isn't bad at all. The Merguez Sandwich really hit the spot! The beef sausage was juicy, packed with smoky, savory, and slightly sweet seasonings, and paired deliciously with the eggs. It's such a heavy sandwich that I'm so glad I added avocado as it added a freshness and cut through some of that savoriness. The homemade roll is also great; it was crisp enough on the outside to hold everything together without overpowering the sandwich. There's no seating inside but they do have a few tables outside. Yes, the social media hype is (mostly) real. It is pretty damn good. Best part of the egg & cheese on a roll was the heavenly roll! And you must try the Cruffin (which is crossiant/muffin hybrid, filled with a chocolate/Nutella combo), but recommend taking it home and eating with cutlery, it's way too messy for eating in the park or on-the-go. There was a line of 6 people when I got here on a Saturday morning, shortly after it opened at 9am. I'm in a croissant phase right now so I came for that but decided to get their famed sandwiches when I noticed everyone before me got one. The croissant is sourdough but doesn't taste tangy or sour at all. It tastes like a standard croissant. The texture was where it shined - blistering exterior and airy interior. It was very satisfying that every bite was a stringy pull that swirled around. Also, very happy to report the Chorizo and Egg Sandwich I ordered was not messy to eat. Finally got to try c&b with a pretty minimal line for a Saturday! We were lucky enough to have a table open up while we waited too. Took a while to get the sandwich (Pig and Egg) but really enjoyed it. Eggs were super fluffy. Meat was good. This place is delicious. It's a little strange because of the way it's set up--the pastry case is to the left of entrance and where you order, so you can't really ponder the pastry choices for long, but that's okay--I'm sure that everything is great!! I got the pig and egg, my husband got the chorizo, egg, and cheese, and we split a strawberry-rhubarb filled donut. Every part of every bite was perfect. The bread was soft and fluffy, the eggs and pork belly were delightfully savory, drippy, and messy!! The doughnut had plenty of filling and flavor--it was sweet enough, but not enough to make the fruit flavor disappear. Just perfect! Also got a loaf of whole wheat sourdough (bonus points for the fact that they slice it) and a kouign aman - both great. They have a limited amount of outdoor shed seating, so we took our food to the park nearby. Have been dying to try this place for the longest time. First of all, people are sleeping on their coffee. Like it's so good, why does no one talk about it? The barista expertly crafted some beautiful latte art and the drink itself was a nice, smoothly blended experience. Great cappuccino, great job. BREAKFAST SANDWICH Alright, essentially if you're a meat eater there are 3 great options to choose from, one including African sausage which I was tied with for the chorizo. I chose the chorizo just to get a good baseline but DEF want to come back for the rest because this was so good. The bread had a nice crust to it compared to other breakfast sandwiches, that kind of satisfying rip you get with your teeth kind of bread. Not super soft/moist inside though. The eggs were fluffy and just the right amount of runny, homogeneous, soft, velvety - perfect. The chorizo was good, it had a little bit of heat running through it but nothing too powerful, and it wasn't super super juicy but def flavorful. Definitely one of the better breakfast sandwiches and would def come back. I think my preference lies in a little bit of softer bread, and juicier chorizo would make it EVEN better, but it still ranks as an great if not excellent choice for a breakfast sandwich that ain't no ordinary breakfast sandwich. Nice local spot right by Tompkins's, great place for a breakfast in the morning on weekends, gets pretty busy so come early if you don't want to wait. Nomz: My go to is the menemen with a side of avocado. It is a beautiful mix of eggs, tomatoes, peppers and spices that make it a magical bite - has a little kick to it - good sized portion. Nice touch to the side of avocado they add lime and a little olive oil maybe? Pastries: can't go wrong with any obviously, but I have a weak spot for the chocolate croissant Drinks: Bottled orange juice is my go to Service: Nice cashier, also calls out the orders after, bustling place. Ambiance: Inside are two little interconnected rooms. On the right there is a line to order your food and on the left you can see the pastries available, there's a record player spinning with some beats and a small waiting area with the coffee and fridge. I am a big fan of pork belly, so when I heard C&B does a pork belly + egg on a roll, I had to come check it out. The pork belly itself was so tender and juicy, it reminded me of Filipino style lechon kawali! The scrambled egg was really fluffy and creamy too and perfectly complemented the savory pork belly. The roll had nice crispy exterior and warm/fluffy interior. All three combined made for such a good sandwich! They also offer pastries like donuts and almond croissants, and they also offer coffee! Popped in randomly the other day while walking towards Tompkins Square Park. There was quite a decent line out the door, however it moved rather fast. I asked for a recommendation from the super pleasant gal taking orders and she suggested the Pork Belly & Egg on a roll. I went ahead with her recommendation and I've got to tell you, it was incredible! The pork belly was tender and juicy and the egg was as fluffy as I've ever had. Coffee is great, and the bread is great. This spot has become my regular visit during the week. My only complaint is their workflow. When it's even a little busy, the wait is extreme. Coupled with the very obvious preferential treatment to "friends and family" is quite irritating. I have waited 20 minutes for my coffee while someone they're familiar with walks in and orders at minute 19 and gets their latte before me. If it seems busy, be prepared to wait a long time until they change this mindset. read more

Today at around 12:55pm I and to order a sandwich. Afterwards the woman taking orders goes to a tray where a baked good is located, cuts it and then grabs it with her bear hands. I assumed she was going to take away the entire tray. She is joking about it with her other colleague as if this is ok. I tell her that is not ok. A few minutes later she is presumably going on her cigarette break and still takes orders with cigarette at hand. When she hands me my order I tell her that this isn't "cool" and that if I was her boss I would have fired her in the spot. She then hits me on my shoulder telling me I am not the boss. A lot of things about C & B are confusing to me. We went in at 8:15a because online it says they open at 8. They do not have hours on the door, but they did have a small sign inside saying 9-4 as the hours. (We did see this after ordering, but the cashier didn't turn us away so maybe the sign inside is incorrect?) We ordered the merguez sandwich. Nowhere on the menu inside doesn't mention there is any meat. We are both vegetarian so we never order beef sandwiches. We took our sandwich home and to our surprise it was a sausage sandwich. Upon looking at older menus on yelp, it does look like the sandwich used to have meat on it, but the current menu inside the store says it is just eggs and cheese. We are not picky so we just picked the sausage off and ate the sandwich and it was good, but we are just disappointed we paid $13 for a small sandwich that wasn't even what we wanted. read more

Perfect neighborhood shop for the efficiency and the offerings. I was told the focaccia was the best in the city. Big claim. Tbh I had the rosemary focaccia and it was later clarified the tomato one was the referenced type but I'll admit it was delicious and perfectly chewy. Got an oat latte too a few times here. All good. It's an efficient line that pushes you into the other room once you've ordered so you can drool at the pastries you didn't order and get out. C&B is everything a neighborhood breakfast/brunch bakery should be. I miss the pre-covid days when there was a tiny eat-in area but I can't begrudge them the kitchen/bakery expansion. My Vietnamese friend who is super-particular about her baguettes will only buy them here, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a baked good here that is less than stellar. The sandwiches are all amazing and so are the egg dishes. I strongly recommend the Cilbir. Ali, the proprietor, is a gem of a person and his staff are all amazing. Not sure if the set up has always been like this, but there's the actual cafe with the actual name, C&B, in the front and then there's the extension that used to be a laundromat! The laundromat is where you order and the other part is where they make the food. Opening time is around 9am so if you walk by earlier, you can't order but you get to see the preparation for the pastries and bread! I got the iced coffee with oat milk. It was fine. Nothing spectacular that would make me intentionally come back for it. I got the egg and chorizo sandwich. The bun was delicious with melted cheese on top. The eggs were salty in a good way.
