This is one of my favorite Cuban spots in forest hills. They are always playing good music in the background and the staff is always very friendly. I sat at the bar this time and was able to enjoy the company of Sebas who is an awesome bartender. He made me a mojito which is always a classic but not everyone knows how to make one; he made it perfectly. I also ordered their tostones rellenos which were super filling and delicious. It came with a chicken, shrimp, roja vieja and picadillo toston. Not sure which was was the tastiest since they were all so good. Tried their flan for the first time and it did not disappoint. My mother and I dined at Cabana located in Forest Hills, Queens for lunch. We'd actually dined on a Saturday afternoon in October and since the weather was gorgeous, we'd sat outside - which was pleasant. We'd ordered our usual since we'd dined here multiple times. For drinks, I'd ordered their red sangria, which was beyond excellent. I have to say Cabana has the most freshest and tasty sangrias, both red and white. I usually order by a glass as opposed to getting a pitcher. For appetizers, my mom and I ordered their crunchy chicken empanadas. Their empanadas are pretty big and I'd personally think one can fill you up nicely. I fancy everything about their chicken empanadas since the chicken is sautéed with Cuban spices and just so crunchy from the outside. Their yuca fritters are just equally delicious. For Entrée, we'd ordered a pot of chicken and rice that's just so classic, it's served with juicy cube chicken, fluffy yellow rice, tomato sauce, chicken broth, sofrito, and Cuban spices. We'd also ordered sweet plantains, which is a must when you visit a Cuban restaurant. The services was welcoming, pleasant and appreciative. Came here for the first time for lunch with 2 others. It's a mix of Cuban, Spanish and Mexican. 1st- Appet of Bocadillos - shrimp fritters, veggie fritters , empanadas , chicken wings. All amazing. Slightly spicy. Salmon -I was told was very good Pollo con Camarones with rice. Beautiful presentation. My daughter said the chicken was a little dry My Camarones Al Ajiello was amazing. The server told us the special of the evening is just the "calamari fries" then went around other tables introducing a whole list of specials including steak, salmon, etc. When confronted he just apologized and said he would take care of us next time (??). Which is a shame because the food is actually great! Bocadillo for two is a great appetizer platter, with the veggie fritters and empanadas being the highlight. Ropa Vieja is also very good. Came here on a rainy night with a friend. Asked if we could pick our seat since my friend is sound sensitive, and they were happily accommodating. The food was incredible. Everything from the drinks to the desserts to the quality of the steak was top-notch. I only noticed they had a bunch of Zagat plaques up on the wall after our meal , and that totally makes sense, because the food was truly high-quality. Our waitress was so kind and helpful too. This is the second time I've been here. Food is okay, but I would not go out of my way to come here. I've only come here on the weekends, when it is super packed. The tables are placed so close together. It feels like I am in Manhattan. I could literally hear what the tables next to us where saying. The service was fine. Waiters were very attentive. The food took a little too long to serve. My friend and I ordered a parrillada to share, tostones rellenos, and a aguacate salad. I was pleasantly surprised at how much salad they served. The parrillada was small, but delicious. It came with a side of rice and beans, which were excellent. I ordered a sangria, which I was not impressed with. I saw others ordering a mojito. I'm thinking that might be there go-to drink. I'll have to try it next time I come here. I took two stars off for the cramped table space and long wait time for food. Can't speak highly enough for this restaurant and the entire team behind it. Have been eating here for well over twenty years. It is my entire family's favorite restaurant. My family first started coming here when was in Manhattan and I was a child. Sadly both Manhattan locations closed, but we discovered that the same wonderful staff and chef are working at this location now. We come in regularly once a week to eat here. I suffer from many food allergies and limited diet and the team here are very accommodating. I don't bite my finger nails when I eat here worrying about improper attention to detail on my order-- this restaurant takes excellent care of everything. The food is prepared fresh and is excellent using fresh genuine ingredients. While many restaurants use short cuts and inauthentic ingredients I have never ever felt that way here. Their paella is one of my mother's favorite and highly recommend. Their coconut shrimp are also excellent !! The restaurant has a lively ambiance with festive decorations in the dining room and appealing music. Their mojitos are some of the best and hard to beat especially in United States! The entire staff is wonderful and warm-- it is like coming home and being with family when I eat here. I've driven and walked by this place many many times and today was the day I would finally eat in here!! We go here midday and the place was packed and busy. They have some outdoor seating but it was so hot we had to sit inside. We were seated right away however it took a while maybe 10 minutes for the waiter finally to come and take our orders. I ordered Pollo Al Ajillo, Marinated boneless chicken breast sautéed with garlic, white wine and fresh herbs. This is a very simple dish but it was amazing and the sauce was exceptionally delicious!!! The only bad part here is that there's only 1 bathroom which I find shocking. We came early Sunday afternoon no problem being seated, once seated we started with some drinks. I had the Pomegranate mojito hubby had the Watermelon mojito both very good decent amount of alcohol by the time we left had a nice buzz. We got an order of the Yuca fries to start, good yuca nice taste & not greasy which I really liked good w the garlic sauce. Main dish I had the Pollo al Ajillo, garlic chicken w rice & beans great tasting chicken went well w the rice & beans. Hubby had the Arroz con Pollo, very good nice & flavorful we added chorizo. For dessert Cafe con leche & a Tres leche cake which also comes w strawberry ice cream, very good ice cream , great tasting tres leche good together very sweet the tres leches the ice cream not as sweet. Location wise small, nice bright colors for the decor, smaller menu than I recall which is a good thing, good service & some decent music playing. Prices have certainly changed a bit on the high side , regular for now a days & they do give u decent portions so it's doable. I've always heard of Cabana, but never had the opportunity to check it out. After a day in Forest Hills, I found that it was the perfect opportunity to go with a few friends. Boy am I glad I finally got to go here! First, they have a cute little outdoor area for dining, it's small, but there are a few tables to enjoy a good meal out there. We did dine indoors and upon going in, we were asked for our vaccination card and our temperature was taken. Felt super comfortable with this all around. We we're there for a late lunch, and there weren't too many diners inside. We were given the opportunity to choose where in the restaurant we wanted to sit. We sat towards the front of the restaurant and it was perfect as we were the only ones in that area. The staff was SOOOOOOOO friendly! Our server wasn't pushy and gave us time to catch up and chat. But we were hungry (and thirsty so we had a round of white sangria which was super tasty!) so we put in an order of apps. I'm so upset I forgot to take pictures because the plating was gorgeous. Rather than breaking down each dish, I'm just gonna list everything we had. Just know that each plate was just as good as the next! By the end of this meal, I felt like I needed to be rolled out of the restaurant. We all shared the following: Apps - Tostones Rellenos (Fried green plantains with an assortment of filling) Marquitas (plantains thinly sliced and fried) Entree - Arroz con pollo Parrillada (an assortment of different meats) Our main entrees came with rice and beans and sweet plantains (my fav). Been coming here for more than 15 years. Maybe 20. We love the churrasco here and the shrimp with garlic sauce. Was surprised when I went for lunch This weekend and they no longer offer the lunch special anymore. I was CRYING. The churrasco on the lunch menu was the best deal ever. Smaller portion than the dinner menu but so worth it. Despite no lunch menu prices, I still ordered the churrasco with yellow rice and beans. $39 I have no idea how they make the yellow rice and beans taste so good. So flavorful. For the steak I always request for them to give me some of their homemade garlic sauce. Delicious combo. Ordered the white sangria and mojito as well. White sangria here is delicious. The mojito was a bit too strong for me. They removed the 10% pandemic fee so that's a plus but lunch still came out to $81 with tax and tip. read more

I was in the area last-night and we were hungry so I pulled out my trusty yelp bookmark to save the day , Who knows how long i have had this placed book marked, i rarely come to Queens . Cabana ? Is this the same Cabana that was once on Lexington and E 59th in the city ???? I loved that place , lets go here i geeked . Honestly I am giving this establishment 3 stars solely bases off the staff and service. The restaurant is dimly lit in the front however when you get to the back its bright and colorful , thats a plus. I think they were playing bachata because my friend couldn't stop dancing lol . They seated us quickly, Our host was friendly and insightful . Now on to the food . I ordered the mariquitas and guacamole which were pretty good . The garlic mojo is extremely pungent which I enjoyed but beware , thats REAL GARLIC BREATH ! So dont eat it if you're on a first date lol . We decided to order 2 special dishes that weren't on the menu . I mean he sold it to us , everything sounded so yummy ! Pan seared salmon in black rice accompanied by some sauce and seafood empanadas. Pernil with pico de gallo yellow rice ?? We were so ready to pig out . When we got our food it was beautifully plated , but one bite into my pernil and I was over it . Everything on my plate was salty . From the pico to the bean paste that was smeared under everything . I took a few bites but I couldn't get far , just over salted and not enough flavor . My friend had the salmon with black bean rice and some sauce - his dish also dame with 2 seafood stuffed empanadas. He only ate the salmon . I took a bite of his fish and it was cooked perfectly, unfortunately his food was salty as well . We just couldn't do it . We sat for another 30-40 mins chit chatting, 2 stepping to the music and then asked for the check . We ended up boxing everything to go but I gave my food to a homeless guy (hopefully he enjoyed it) So will I be coming back to Cabana ? Probably not but was it a terrible experience, absolutely not . We were recommended by friends and they told us everything Cabana serves is amazingly delicious. There are only 25 indoor seats available and the restaurant doesn't take reservations so we highly suggest to visit earlier to beat the crowd. We started our dinner with Mojito, BACCALAITOS (Crispy-golden salty codfish Cakes with avocado salsa) as appetizer and PARRILLDA (Mixed Grill Platter) as entree to share. The portion was great with reasonable price. The food was overall pretty decent, especially the steak and sausage in the grill platter. The steak was cooked perfectly in medium rare, tender and juicy. The sausage was well-seasoned and flavorful. First time I have been here. My wife has been here before. She said the food used to be better. It's just ok now. We ordered here as a stop to our reservation destination. We ordered tostones cups with ropa vieja. The meat was a little salty and not tasty (my wife makes very very good ropa vieja).Tostones were a bit soggy on the bottom. The plaintains were extra crisp though. We had a presidente beer and my wife ordered 2 malibu pineapples. We got the call from our reserved seat at another restaurant and had to take the calamari to go. I dug into it on the way there knowing calamari taste like the booth of a shoe when it's cold. It was war but it was disgusting. It has a soft outer coat and a very pungent odor. I threw it out. $15 wasted. Total: Drinks were $35 Food was $35 (2 appetizers) They also charge a 10% COVID surcharge (whatever that it but I understand...business are suffering). Covid restriction, minimal seatings. Came in here for the first time in ages. I used to come in with companions a decade ago and I wanted to see if it had changed. It was quiet for a Friday afternoon, which is never good for a restaurant. The workers looks stressed but still maintained a pleasant demeanor when having a conversation with customers. I was seated quickly and handed a menu promptly. This gave me hope that the food was still good since in slow places you may even have to wait 10 minutes to get a menu. I ordered the rum punch and the "la playa ensalada" which came with scallops, shrimp, avocado, mixed arugula greens and shredded cabbage. The rum punch was STRONG and the salad was absent of any mangos like stated in previous reviews. It was also topped with a pico de gallo like salsa and a lemon-vinaigrette dressing. The salad itself was very fresh and tasty, but the seafood seemed more on the salty side. However, the seafood was charred and when eaten with the salad, the vinaigrette blended in nicely. For $20 on a very day, you really can't go wrong. As for the drink, it wasn't the best tasting drink but if you were looking to get trashed fast, this is the one to order. I would still come back but next time I would stick to my usuals: Ropa vieja and classic mojito. read more

I didn't think parking was going to be horrendous on a Monday evening but I was wrong .. by a lot! Lol. But I'm not here to review the parking for Cabana, I'm here for the delicious food. And when I mean delicious, holy moly ... it was soooooo good. Ordered the paella marinera, paella valenciana, churrasco, mariquitas, maduros and flan. If you order the paella, just know one thing ... you will definitely have leftovers. I want to say that one order of paella will feed 4 people easily. The churrasco was cooked perfectly and the pickled onions was a great touch. The apps were great and the flan ... still thinking about it days later. The only negative thing to say about dinner was the 'passion fruit' sangria. It lacked the taste of passion fruit and was too similar to the white sangria.
