"If only the service was as good as the pizza..." That line was from a draft review two years ago that I am getting around to again today. The rest of this review is from today's poor experience and service at Cabby Shack. To add to that opening line. If only the service was as good as the buffalo chicken... Haven't gone here in a few years and now I know why. Couples seated after us got their check before we even got our meal. I finally flagged down another waiter and told him we ordered our food over 45 minutes ago. He let our waitress who disappeared know. She came to the table and assured that the kitchen was cooking our buffalo chicken. Last time I checked, buffalo chicken takes less than 5 minutes to fry. Why didn't the waitress just admit that she forgot about us? Why didn't she come over sooner on this hot day to see if we wanted more drinks? I know the kitchen might have (key word "MIGHT") forgotten the order. But if that were the case, it should have been obvious for her to check in with the kitchen after everyone else around us got their meals. Ever heard the saying: "you had one job...!" I just got back from Cabby Shack and was incredibly disappointed with the quality of the service. My party of 5 was told it would be a 20-30 minute wait. We gave our phone number per their request, and headed to a shop nearby. After 30 minutes, we returned and a place for us was not yet available. Before leaving for the shop we noticed there were several large tables available, and each of these tables were available upon our return. We figured there was just not enough staff to accommodate this number of tables. However, after 30-45 minutes of waiting inside, we noticed at least 6 staff members who had done nothing but wandering between tables. While waiting, 3 staff members clustered in front of us for at least 10 minutes asking questions like "do you know who's bussing tables?" After at least one hour of waiting (30 minutes outside at the restaurant and AT LEAST 30 minutes inside) I finally spoke to the hostess and she assured me that it would take only 5 minutes more and they were just waiting for our table to be bussed, and she would send over the bus girl immediately. We waited at least 20 minutes longer and saw the table go uncleaned while several staff members stood around doing nothing. Finally, I went up to the hostess and expressed my frustration over how several staff members were standing around doing nothing while we had been waiting an hour and a half for a table that was unoccupied. After complaining the second time, we were seated in about 5-10 minutes. Our service was fine once seated. The soda was watered down, but they replaced it upon request (it says this on the menu, but note that soda refills are not free). Also, the menu said my meal had a side dish, but they told me that was an error and they would not give me the side dish. Clam chowder was good, onion rings were good, the lobster roll's roll was the tiniest thing ever. Plenty of lobster, but the bun was definitely not adequate. While leaving we noticed a line filled with at least 30 people. In our section of the restaurant that contained about 10 tables, I counted 4 tables of 4 that were empty and clean. I'm a pretty patient person, and the lack of leadership and efficiency in this restaurant was annoying enough for me to type this review on my cell phone. read more

The service was so bad that I would never go back there. They sat us off to the room at the left of the door. There was such loud noise from numerous TVs that we could not hear each other at our table without shouting. It took a long time to get our lunch (over 30 min) and we watched as the waitress ran around and could not keep up with her area what so ever. Either she was new or the hostesses standing around should have jumped in to assist her. We did not reflect that on our tip. She clearly could not handle her job but the owner should have know this. She had two food checks for other tables all messed up and they were constantly calling her back to fix it. I got clam chowder which was without a doubt the worst glob of a gooey mess that I have ever seen. The expensive prices did not coincide with the service, over the top noise or quality of the food. There are numerous seafood places in that area, do yourself a favor and skip this one. I've been here a couple of times for their delicious clam chowder (yes, it really is the best!) and pretty view. I always get the same fried clam and fried scallop plate, and it's always yummy. I never finish it all because of the clam chowder beforehand! I docked a star because the last time I was there (last week) we sat inside, and there were flies everywhere. We were right by a window and there were about 4-5 flies crawling all over the window the whole time. We knew when our food came it would be a problem but there didn't seem to be any open tables so we didn't ask to move. No one wants to have multiple flies diving for their food while they're trying to enjoy a meal. read more

If this review were based solely on the Clam Chowder, it would be a 5 star. It's thick and rich with big pieces of clam and a wonderful flavor. However, there are other factors to consider. The pizza here is ok (bar pizza) and the night life is good. The drinks are good and it's a great spot to watch a game as there are numerous TV's. The outdoor deck is great in the summer as you are right on the water, though you may be more likely to have a view of a parking lot rather than the ocean. On Sundays this place fills with bikers, and their loud shitty bikes. They think they're cool because they have tattoos and goatees and it must make them feel good to be nomadic outlaws one day a week because the rest of the time they are doing things like delivering our mail or snaking our clogged drains. Save for their loud obnoxious demeanor, these chumps are harmless. I still want to kick over their bikes, though. read more

Ate here once, and went for the so called "nightlife" twice. Ate the Chowdah, which was a little salty at first, but definitely their specialty. Had other bowls in the area, and they don't hold a candle to this! A must have. Now, for the other two times.. Went in to watch game 7 of the Heat-Spurs. A group of us brought in a good 15 people, but the bar called last call at midnight, and had everyone vacated by 12:30. Ok, I get it. It's a Thursday night. Maybe they just don't stay open as late. So, asked if the place stayed open on Fridays and Saturdays longer. We were told yes, and that they would be open until around 1:30-2. Cool. Well, came back on Friday with even a bigger group of us (about 30-40) and guess what? Last call was at midnight and everyone had to be out by 12:30 again. LAME. I guess the place didn't want to make money? That and the fact that I sat there and watch a patron get overlooked 4 times when he tried to get a beer, and when he complained to managment, he was surrounded by 3 'bouncers' (and this guy was probably 5'5, and weighed 98 pounds fully clothed with a suit of armor) and escorted out of the place. When we arrived, we requested outdoor seating and were asked if we wanted top deck or bottom. We asked which one was more mellow and the hostess shrugged and so we rolled the dice and asked for the top floor. The hostess proceeded to walk us over to a table that was next to a dad with three of his kids, two of which spent most of the meal shrieking and unseated. Server was very nice, attentive. The drinks were tiny and we paid for a "floater" which sounded like it was supposed to be an extra shot. By the time we finished our drinks, I can promise you it was the only shot. Fried food was greasy (more than it should have been). Fish and chips were oily. We spent $99 and ate food off of paper plates. Disappointed. We won't be back, glad we crossed this one off of the bucket list, it had come highly recommended. It was overpriced for what it was. The service at the restaurant is poor and the food is sub par. I ordered a fish and chips and it took 25 minutes to come out. One fried fish took 25 minutes when it takes 4 minutes in a deep fryer. Asked to speak to the manager and he said that is a good ticket time. I work in a restaurant and 25 minutes for a fried dish is much too long especially when I am paying $25 for it. Fish was bland and the onion rings fall apart. Get a better management team that knows how to deal with these situations. That's their job. read more

The server did not take the order correctly. She brought us clam bellies rather than strips. The calamari that came with our order was predominantly tentacles. Very few calamari rings. We had to fill ourselves up with French fries in an effort to satisfy our hunger. We came to the restaurant last summer and had a fairly pleasant experience. Great location but less than average food. I ordered mussels; they were dry and over-cooked! The house salad had no flavor. Chicken tenders were too well-done. Fries had no flavor. The fish in the fish and chips was flaky and sweet, but that was the only high point. Our table overlooked the water - so gorgeous. On 7/28/2020 at 7pm - I walked up to the outdoor hostess station at the Cabby Shack to ask about seating for a party of 12. Immediately I was met with a roll of the eyes and a less than enthusiastic greeting. The manager beside her who looked equally disenchanted to see me, informed me that it would be at least a 20-30 minute wait and we would need to be split in two tables because it is "the law". I was fine with the wait, consider myself to be a law abiding person and understand that the pandemic has been a major stressor to the restaurant industry but come on folks, here is a party of (12) , two families trying to enjoy their vacation and drop over $500 at your place of business. Would it be too much trouble to perhaps even fake a smile and a professional welcome??? After thinking over the "welcome" I received , I could only imagine what the service would be like. I'm surprised by those giving this place 1-3 stars. I tried their famous clam chowdah. I have had it many other places, but I think this is the best. Then, I tried their creme brûlée. It was good, but it didn't make me forget about the chowdah. As far as the service goes, it was good. My waitress was attentive and friendly. The prices here are great and being a foodie, I'm known for splurging. There are also many restaurants nearby. You can see the Lobster Hut across the parking lot. It's also settled in a cute, historic part of Plymouth. As for somebody who brought their own diet drink just because this place only have diet Pepsi... This is normal. Many restaurants don't allow outside food or drinks to be brought in. Just order water or tea just this once. Any soda, regular or diet, isn't even healthy, anyway. I was debating between 4 and 5 stars and just went for the 5 because: -AMAZING roofdeck and view of Plymouth bay (especially on a lovely summer day) -AMAZING clam chowder (clam chowdah, if you will) -DELISH stuffed quahogs....I could probably eat 20 of these as my meal -Interesting nightlife I am a huge fan of roofdecks, and this one has a bar outside upstairs which alone earned it an extra star in my book. I went here this summer for the first time in a while to have a full meal (usually stop by for a drink when I'm in town). I took my boyfriend and he was SO happy with the meal. If you're visiting Plymouth, definitely add this place to your list if you want yummy seafood by the ocean. I think it gets busy during the summer so make sure you give yourself enough time. You have to fight eating your food through the flies. Windows wide open with no screens. Counted 7 at one time on the table in a landed position. Didn't count the ones hovering above us. STAY AWAY!! Went here on a slow monday night for a friends birthday. Our age group was mostly 19-26 but we did have along a few parents as well. There was about 10 of us all ordering a range of sodas/beer and burgers to fish plates. Nothing to crazy or intricate. SERVICE WAS AWFUL. Although the waitress was pleasant we literally waited 1 hour and 20 min for our dinner and our drinks were fairly hard for her to keep up with. We were absolutely starving. The food was descent but i begin to question if that is correct or if we were just famished. We saw tables of families all around us coming and leaving before we even had our food. As you approach the outside serving area this place looks fun, and for what it's worth it is. The upper deck seating is your best bet for a good view. The breading was horrible, flavor was off, and their Cajun andouille was crap. As a matter of fact, the calamari sat with me the rest of the night, and not in a good way. Stay away from it! On to dinner... I really wanted seafood, wring place for that, and wanted a mix of seafood. The menu didn't offer ANYTHING I really wanted. There were fried dishes, baked haddock, and some clam this and that, but no real sea food dish. At least no creativity to their menu, seafood, yeah okay, but no depth to the menu. I ordered fish n chips only because they had NO pasta dishes that night. Wait, pasta dishes are 60% of your menu. Exactly! Had the fish and skipped the chips. It was moist and somewhat good. The other dish we ordered was the scallop and bacon pizza, and I have to say it was pretty good. If you eat there go with the pizza. One last thing and I'll 86 this review. Their mixed drinks were weak and even with the addition of another shot it still stunk. Stick to beer or their $5 champaign split. In the end, if you want good food go elsewhere. I have to say that my expectations going into this place was pretty high. There was a lot of people there for a random Tuesday afternoon, it was right by the water and apparently this place was on FoodNetwork and Phantom Gourmet so I figured that maybe this place could have been top notch. We ordered the "lobster trap" which sounded awesome on the menu (it was a lobster quesadilla apparently) it was decent, but nothing I would crave the one hour drive for. We then got fried clams (just the strips apparently though) I love me some bellies in there to switch textures up a bit and there wasn't anything but a large heap of fried bits and very over cooked strips. The fries were soggy and the "tartar sauce" was basically 100% mayo with two specs of relish, not yum. Not one bit yum. There are 2 Cabbyshacks on Yelp, but I am reviewing this listing because it has more reviews. I brought a friend here recently who was visiting from out of town. We were able to eat outside on the patio and look at the ocean while we enjoyed our twin lobsters ($35) with fries and coleslaw. The lobsters were fresh and delicious and for that price, you can't go wrong! Our server charged an extra $5 because we shared the meal, which is fair, but he didn't tell us about the charge in advance. However, he was a great server, and we had a great experience. I took away a star and gave 4 (instead of 5) because of an encounter we had with a rude waitress when we arrived. My friend and I arrived and went out to the patio, where we found one empty high table. We asked a server (he ended up waiting on us) if we could pull out 2 chairs and sit there and he said it would be fine. After he walked away, a bitchy waitress came by and barked at us, asking if we were ordering any food. We told her yes, and she stomped away. A few minutes later, she walked out with our waiter and we heard her mutter some rude things about us to him, and he replied that he told us we could take that table. I watched this waitress with other customers and she did not seem like a pleasant person. If not for our run in with this cranky woman, I would have given 5 stars. read more

Im going middle of the road on this one which is pretty rare for me. Based on advertising and Phantom Gourmet review we decided seafood and atmosphere would suit our desire for the evening. I wont be long winded, but it was the wife and I, and our 7 & 5 year olds. No alcohol, we had seafood entrees and the kids had typical kid meals. All food was decent but nothing amazing. The chowder WAS pretty good... Two of our meals came with fries and having worked in restaurants i know a re-dropped fry when i eat it... These were no doubt old re-dropped fries. Portions were ok but not mind blowing (some places make up in quantity what they lack in quality) Bill was $70 so not TOO crazy for a family with 2 seafood entrees imo. We wouldnt steer AWAY from TCS next trip but we'd try other local places before returning. read more

I was toggling between a 2 and 3 star, but decided to go with a 3 because my food was good I'm visiting the area from Portland OR to spend time with close friends - many of which have also traveled from various parts of the States to be here. After a day out sight seeing, we were all very hungry and ready to sit down to a good meal. One of our friends is a native to the area and mentioned coming here since they serve dishes other than seafood, just in case someone in our group didn't want it. We all agreed that would be a good idea and headed over. We had a group of 10, and while we were seated fairly quickly, everything else service-wise was slow. Understandable if the place was completely swamped, but it wasn't. The waitress even mentioned to me that it wasn't busy tonight when she took our order. (Which took 10-15 minutes before she came to do so.) After we got our food, on more than one occasion we had to wave her over and/or call her out by name to get her attention when we needed something. She was either not paying attention or was busy chatting with people at the nearby bar counter. When it came time to pay, she brought our bill out in one big tab, having not asked us beforehand if we were all paying together or separate. We asked if she could split it up into separate tabs, and were told that because it was already printed out, she couldn't do that. To me that doesn't make sense - I've been to numerous restaurants before where friends and I were given a lumped together tab, and they all gladly took it back and split it up it when asked.) We also discovered upon looking over the tab that refills on the sodas were not free, which was never mentioned to us. My meal was good. I was originally going to get the lobster mac & cheese, but was lured in by the scallop and bacon pizza. It was very tasty - good flavor and the flavor and amount of sauce was nice, I would definitely order it again. Everyone else in the group was happy with their meals, too. So, other than the service issues, I was overall fairly pleased with my first visit here. I hope to be able to give it a second chance sometime to see if the service would be any better with a different waiter/waitress. read more

The fried food was dripping in grease so much so that every time I picked it up with my fork the coating came off. The chowder was the best and it always was but I ate one forth of my meal and had to stop. My friends and I came to the Cabby Shack today for lunch. Our waiter Jake came over and took our drink ordered. He brought them over and didn't say anything so we called him back to order appetizers. We don't see him again for 15 minutes when he brings over our apps. After a few minutes we get his attention again while he's standing with all the other staff talking by the bar. He took our order then when it came out we asked for more drinks and some pepper. He threw the pepper onto the table as well as my drink. The food was very good just awful service. read more

This place is worth the drive from Boston. It is right on the waterfront in Plymouth and they have a double decker porch with a Bar on the top level. They also have live entertainment in the evenings which is always great. They have lots of seafood on the menu which is great but they also serve many other things for those of you who do not like seafood. I highly recommend the crabcakes...when you there ask for shakka. It is a new drink on the market and they have it...it is amazing. read more

Place is a little on the expensive side but was to be expected (tourist town, seafood). Really wanted some fresh seafood and quality products but was let down! Food came out cold, old oil used to fry and pretty bland. Ended up sending food back for new plates - They did come out with better food (you could tell the oil was changed..I mean, night and day!) and they did make it right on the check by comping our drinks. This was a nice gesture but money wasn't totally the issue - wouldn't go back.
