Pierson, the pianist, asked my group to sing a song we requested because he was unsure of the lyrics, then the staff asked the group to sit down. Not sure if this place is catered to the older crowd or just not accustomed to having girls who like to have a good time, but I wouldn't come back here if you payed me. Staff 2.7/10. Food 6.7/10. Pianist 10/10.

The staff were very friendly so no issues there. We went in on a Friday at 6:00 pm and were the only ones dining. Shortly after one other couple came in. Not sure if it's this dead because summer is over or because it was a hot day but we were surprised how empty it was for a Friday evening. The menu itself isn't bad. No appetizers on the menu but a decent selection of entrees so no issues there. I order the NY strip with grilled Brussel sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes. I'll start with the positive - the steak was ordered medium-rare and it was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, there was just very very little flavor or seasoning to the steak - it wasn't bad but I wouldn't order it again. The Brussel sprouts were huge - and I expected they would be 'hard' in the center (as often happens with larger Brussel sprouts) but I was pleasantly surprised that they were perfectly cooked and tender. Unfortunately they were also very under seasoned. One of them had an oil or seasoning on it and it was delicious but the rest had none and lacked flavor. The garlic mashed potatoes were the highlight! Potato skins in them; nice rich and smooth texture and perfectly flavored. Best part of the meal! We also tried the steak tacos which had thin strips of steak in corn tortillas with corn, a sauce and cilantro and came with black beans and rice. The strips of steak were excellent - slightly charred (perfectly) on the outside and flavorful. The sauce had a wonderful flavor to it. The tortillas were very soft and moist. The tacos were very good. The black beans were black beans and the rice was rice - neither were bad and neither were great - no special flavor. Would we come back? If we were staying at the property again we might go back. The convenience is their main selling point. That said, Main Street in Fredericksburg with literally dozens of restaurants is only 3 minutes away. If The Club could 'up' their seasoning, they would certainly be worthy of 4 stars.

If you can peer past the vaguely positive and anodyne rosy reviews that seem to pop up with suspicious regularity, you'll start to see a disturbing pattern emerge for this restaurant. There are a number of very negative reviews for this restaurant, all centered around a common set of issues (in many cases these negative, yet fair, reviews seem to have been intentionally deep-sixed but you can still find them pretty quickly): 1. Cold, "space alien" style service, blank stares and odd awkward interaction from wait staff. 2. Argumentative unaccommodating waiter service when steak was inadequately prepared (this happens over and over in the reviews, even in many that strive to be positive). 3. A running theme of poor and haughty management (this is not a new concern but repeated over several cycles of managers but especially seems to focus on the most recent manager). 4. A startlingly high number of concerns about discriminatory behavior toward disabled individuals, minority families, and even veterans (in one case the treatment a disabled woman received was particularly shocking and egregious). 5. Food preparation that is mediocre at best and overpriced, (and easily sniffed out as such by a sophisticated dining crowd.) 5a. Wine and alcohol that is marked up far past reasonable levels. 6. A remarkable level of low popularity among even local reviewers. Huge red flag here. 6a Increasingly threadbare and shabby decor noted by many. 7. A deeply irrational and inexplicable anti-customer reservations policy that doesn't seem to comport with available wait staff, tables or kitchen capacity. The policy prevents anyone who knows each other or is distantly related to reserve split tables, even when no one desires to "sit together" and seems intentionally designed to be as off putting and asinine as possible. 8. A lack of responsiveness from restaurant management and ownership to poor reviews (strangely the restaurant used to promptly reply to negative reviews about 5 years ago, but this activity has markedly decreased-- and besides, most of the replies were stock canned responses without much in the way of apology or actually addressing concerns or demonstrating authentic empathy). In short there is something really wrong here: one or two negative reviews with an isolated complaint here and there is to be expected and perhaps at some level could be shrugged off by the owners. But when the same set of complaints legitimately surfaces repeatedly over a period of years, there's an endemic problem. The restaurant business is tough and relies mostly on word of mouth (even today). It also seems to be true that if a restaurant has "baked in" poor management practices and a shoddy customer service culture, it is remarkably difficult to turn it around. It usually requires a wholesale reset, a menu and pricing overhaul, and a fresh start with new staff who are onboard and "with the program" for treating customers with respect. If the restaurant owner is not an absentee landlord or even if he/she is, they should consider all three (and nota bene, this doesn't seem to be a problem that could be fixed with merely an early retirement for he of the man bun). Or perhaps the owners like it this way, which is even more troubling. read more

My husband got on the two-month-plus-long waiting list to take me to this place for my birthday and I was admittedly excited. At first, we were charmed. It was near the end of the meal that our waiter engaged the obviously intoxicated couple at the table right next to us in a big long discussion (that went on for our entire desert) of how much they cannot stand people with tattoos. He even went so far as to throw his own stepdaughters under the bus, commenting on their low intelligence for getting tattoos. Spoiler alert: I, like literally millions of other people, have a visible tattoo. It's also the year 2022 and being a bigot is kinda frowned upon. (Context: the lady at the table only started it because her husband spent half his meal checking me out and she was obviously jealous which is such a high school mean girl trick to pull. Her insecurity with her husband is her own problem, but the waiter didn't have to engage her just to suck up to make tips. Way to show you have zero self-respect there, Darren.) Have you ever gotten all dressed up for your birthday to go out and try to have a little fun -- despite your whole life falling apart in the previous year -- just to have your waiter openly judge you right next to your table as loud as he possibly can? It's such a wonderful dining experience. Even worse though, is the fact that I emailed the restaurant to explain what happened just in the hopes that someone else's birthday dinner at their restaurant wouldn't get ruined by its own unprofessional staff and they wrote back and basically said "sorry you perceived it that way" -- in other words, a backhanded non-apology, as if it's somehow my fault for overhearing their rude, stuck up waiter talk smack on other guests. Let me just tell you, it is so amazing to wait months to go to dinner, finally get there to celebrate after a year from hell, then pay good money for marked up wine, okay food, and ten minutes worth of bigoted insults at a place that obviously got so big for its own britches that it doesn't care even one tiny minuscule bit how its customers get treated just because they have a long wait list so they'll just get more. Snobby isn't even the word here. Seriously, does this restaurant have any self-awareness? It's like they don't even care if you KNOW they don't care how poorly you get treated there! I should've known when we showed up and the girl at the front desk was rude to someone who called on the phone, treating them like an idiot for not knowing they would need to make a reservation months in advance. I mean, get over yourselves already. You know what? I think I'd rather get all dressed up to go eat out of a dumpster behind a Whataburger, because at least the employees there would still find it within their working hearts to treat us like actual human beings instead of some of the mean, blackhearted third grade bullies trapped in adult bodies who work at Cabernet Grill. I wouldn't go back to this place if they straight up paid me to. read more

Chef Ross Burtwell has been at the forefront of Texas Culinary Food and Wine exploration, and the Hill Country is the beneficiary. Well ahead of his time with an all-Texas wine list for nearly 10 years, Chef Burtwell's menu at Cabernet Grill continues to reflect fresh, local, and delicious innovations. The daily menu is already a creative delight, and the additions of Foodie-Burg Tuesday, other local food-and-wine pairing events, or special occasion menus for New Years, just fantastic. And with Ms Elizabeth Rodriguez handling the wine program, you can count on the best guidance and presentation at your table. In fact I recommend you just let them roll with the wine pairings, their cellar is deep and broad with Texas vintages and producers, and is updated consistently. Atmosphere is Hill Country casual, grounds are beautiful. Noteworthy: by forbidding parties larger than 6 on weekends, your own dining experience will not be overwhelmed by large groups dominating the room, kitchen and service. If you get the idea that Chef Burtwell knows what he and his customers like, you're 100% correct. Chances are you'll become one, too. Chef Burtwell is a master of Southwest cuisine as well as a great purveyor of locally sourced gulf coast seafood, quail from Bandera, and locally fresh fare. Most dishes have a signature kick, so don't be shy about the standards, they are great! And don't miss the flight of Port with cheese and nuts as a finale. If anyone is considering dining at this establishment I highly encourage you to seek out the multiple negative reviews of how this establishment treated a young disabled woman. She drove from Dallas just to eat at this horrible place for her birthday and brought along her service animal. She had all the documentation for her service dog, but the manager told her he didn't believe she was really "disabled", and refused to seat her. The other patrons in the restaurant who witnessed this were horrified at her treatment, and several left scathing reviews and details of the encounter. There are a lot of examples of very RUDE and ridiculous behavior of their manager, not to mention their absurd policy of no parties over 6 people, even if willing to split into two tables. But, nothing tops the way they treated that lady on her birthday. I decided right then and there when I read that review, I would never support these ugly people. I instead had one of the best meals I've ever had at Otto's, and the service and kindness of their staff was second to none. This kind of behavior cannot be tolerated! There's way too many excellent restaurants in Fredericksburg to put up with their nonsense. My husband and I had a wonderful time during our short stay in Fredericksburg! This restaurant was highly recommend to me by a friend of a friend. I was on the fence because I wanted to check out some other eateries as well; however, we ran into Andrea on Main Street and she gave raving reviews which solidified our decision to go with our first choice. We made reservations for 8:00pm, arrived at 7:32pm and seated immediately! The property is absolutely gorgeous with lots of personal touches that center around wine. I loved the special with the pico and crab meat which came highly recommended by our awesome waiter Luis! I ordered the snapper with crab meat and three cheese grits and my husband ordered the pork loin with smashed sweet potatoes. We both enjoyed our selections. I'm so thankful I ran into Andrea at a local store and followed through with our original plans. The food was absolutely amazing and Luis service was impeccable. He was jovial and made us laugh. My husband and I spent our 48th Anniversary in your restaurant Tuesday night enjoying a wonderful meal ! We were visiting from Frierson, La. and had been told by a friend to be sure and visit your restaurant. Are we ever glad we did!!! It was a total delight!!! A beautiful atmosphere, delicious food and our waiter, Lucas, was very knowledgeable of the menu and perfectly charming as he visited with us and answered all our questions!! My husband had the snapper with lemon cream sauce and crab meat--- he is still talking about how perfectly it was cooked!!! I had the shrimp and it was scrumptious --- actually EVERYTHING we had was outstanding!!! It was truly a lovely evening and Lucas only added to the wonderful time we spent in your restaurant!! Beautiful setting. Right on Hwy16 so easy on and off hwy. For a Thursday eve,appeared to be completely full in main indoor dining area. Outside dining also had tables occupied. Service was excellent. Knowledge of menu items and beverageswas a plus. My guest was very empresses with her surf-n-turf and I enjoyed crab cakes. Extensive wine menu will allow any size party to enjoy a glass of his/her favorite. I chose pino grigio,but my guest really loved the strawberry martini. We decided to take home dessert. As crowded as the dining room was, I was amazed that we could talk across the table without having to read lips or yell at each other! Soft,cozy devour. Casual attire. Richard Brouillette was absolutely wonderful and made our entire dining experience unforgettable. They were booked for reservations the day of but said it was first come first serve for the patio. We got there right at 5 on Saturday. No wait and honestly the patio was super enjoyable. William took care of us and he was wonderful and very attentive the whole dining experience. We enjoyed the crab gratin for the appetizer... highly recommend not missing out on that one. For the entrees we enjoyed the filet mignon with cheese grits and a side of the Serrano Bernese sauce. The lobster topped chicken fried ribeye with the maple chipotle sweet potatoes as the side. Although a bit far from town, we found this restaurant to be well worth the trip. It is built on the site of an old cotton gin and, seen at night, is very attractive. The interior decorations are quite nice and creative. We found two items to be exceptional and they probably indicate that much of the menu would also be exceptional. We are crabcake lovers and order them just about any time we see them on a menu. These easily ranked in the top 10% of all those we have sampled. And how many times have you ordered green beans and loved them? These were not overcooked and were nicely seasoned with bacon. I think they were actually haricots verts, and very good. We recently took a weekend trip to Fredricksburg. Before we went, we found Cabernet Grill on the internet and the menu looked so good, we decided we needed to eat there both nights of our stay. And what a great choice it was!! The wine, appetizers, entrees, dessert and atmosphere were all amazing! Our waitress, Brittany, was the icing on the cake. We were placed in her section the first night and we requested her the next night. She was very informative about the menu, but above all, she was friendly and personable. What a great surprise to find this lovely restaurant away from the tourist Main Street. The setting is lovely and serene. The service is superb especially our waiter, Luis. His attention to detail was great without hovering. Now the food. The appetizers of butternut squash soup and bleu cheese roasted figs were fabulous! Saw the great reviews and tried the Cabernet Grill during a recent trip to Fredericksburg. This place was amazing and exceeded all expectations. Started with the Crabcakes, then had the butternut squash soup. Hubby had the fish and I had a filet. Seriously, this meal was perfect. No room for dessert. Our server (Joe I think) had a trainee with him, and they were warm, engaging, but did not smother us. Will go back again and again. My husband and I dined there recently and I had the Shrimp Scampi (with tarragon) and he had the snapper and both were excellent -- the shrimp were huge and the hint of tarragon added a nice flavor without being overpowering. The crab cake appetizers and crab meat au gratin were generous in their portions and also very tasty!! Service was great on timing from when we were seated and served our first drinks, appetizer & dinner was spread out perfect time apart (not too long but long enough to know everything was made to order). We celebrated our 50th anniversary at Cabernet Grill. The food and service was absolutely excellent. Brittany did an outstanding job taking care of us. She recommended spinach salad, warm bacon and goat cheese with toasted bread, 3 cheese grits, stir fry vegetables and a rib eye steak that was cooked to perfection. The meal was perfect! We took my mom here for her 80th birthday, and it could not have been better. Our waitress, Amy, was warm and friendly, and readily recommended her favorites without being pushy at all. And everything lived up to all the reviews I read about this place. I would highly recommend the sesame encrusted shrimp with cheese grits. Wow! The atmosphere is SO Fredericksburg! We made reservations for right after the shops were closed, and it was the perfect time. Our waiter (John, I believe) had a fun personality and great recommendations. Our group of friends had the strip steak, filet mignon, and coconut breaded shrimp as entrees. The sweet potatoes are so good! We enjoyed the wine and desserts as well. The icing on the cake was when our waiter went outside with us to take our picture. read more

This is our third night in Fredericksburg. Our first two meals were "ok." I told my family that I wanted a meal that made me say, "Oh wow!" with every bite. I was not disappointed! The meal and the service, provided by John, was excellent. The atmosphere was relaxing and inviting. The meal was beyond great! I was glad to see that such a nice restaurant exists in Fredericksburg. We also loved the chicken schnitzel, the burrata, and the black bean hummus--everything tasted fresh, generous, and thoughtfully prepared. The menu does an excellent job showcasing Texas comfort food with creative, seasonal touches. And dessert was unforgettable. The croissant bread pudding and blackberry crumble were absolutely incredible--rich, comforting, and generous enough to share, although I wouldn't blame anyone for keeping them all to themselves. The drinks and Texas wine selection were equally impressive, and the peach margarita is a must-try. What truly elevated the experience was the service. Our server was attentive, personable, and offered excellent recommendations without ever being intrusive. So wish they'd made that accommodation for me instead of trying to nickel and dime me. But the live music and dancing that followed helped me take my mind off it (and the sweet bartender who gave me warm lemon water for my stomach). The band was awesome and they played top 40 hits. After driving through the entry gate, I had mixed emotions. The entry road was not that well maintained, we passed several large parking lots that weren't really that well maintained either. There were some grape vines in view and they were in really poor shape, which made me question what the rest of the facility would be like. I am pleased to say that we were pleasantly surprised. The rest of the facility that we experienced was well maintained and pretty "cool". There was a really large grassy area accompanied by a covered Pavilion when you first walk in. We did not go into the Cottages that were for rent in the resort, but they looked cute from the outside. The restaurant decor was nice and the service was excellent. The food was good but not off the chain. The food was kind of "fusion" inspired and not your regular run-of-the-mill menu items, although there were a few of those, also. Most of the main entrees were a little bit pricey, in my opinion. We were there for lunch and so they did offer some lunch items but we opted for a main entree. The lunch options were more reasonably priced and consisted mostly of hamburgers, sandwiches, and salads. I opted for the Birria Beef Stroganoff (Yep, there's that "Fusion" thing). While it had good flavor, there was no "Stroganoff" component to it (that I could tell), other than a small dollop of sour cream that I discovered towards the end of my dish. It was more like Pasta Alfredo with Birria Beef on top. My wife had the BLT salad with the addition of grilled chicken. The dish was sort of anemic and lacked any creativity. In summary, I would go back, but would try some different menu items. Since we were there for lunch on a Friday there wasn't any other sort of entertainment other than the wine tasting room. We did notice that they have a comedy show and some live entertainment on weekend nights.

The atmosphere is definitely the highlight, and I'd come back to try something different on the menu.
