I'm sure the majority of folks dining at the Cactus Creek have a better than average experience by the 4 star reviews. My experience was quite different, we had a party of six celebrating a very special occasion. Thinking this Steakhouse is rated 4 stars we thought we couldn't go wrong, that was our first mistake. Of the first 5 salads brought out they had to take em back because of the 'off' odor. Our server explained that maybe it was the radishes (not what I would expect from a four star steakhouse). When the entrées came out three people had ordered filet mignon's, which I was told was very tasty. One of the patrons had ordered New York strip (three of us confirmed that) and was given and charged for a filet mignon rather than taking it back to the kitchen and giving the patron what they ordered. It was unfortunate, but the service in my opinion was not four-star they did check on us occasionally and kept the water glasses full and 'maybe' they even asked if everything was OK. Not wanting to spend $60 for a steak (I was a guest) I ordered the seafood roast. It turned out to be a very tasty bisque, but a tasty bowl of soup shouldn't cost $35.00. Give em try if you want to gamble on a great experience. My recommendation is to go to Western Steakhouse, enjoy the much better ambience, 120% better experience for maybe 10% more. You do you, all six of us know where we'll go next time. read more

I've had to work late, so I decided to come here for dinner. Been quite a while since I've been here but, when the kids are in town, they always wanna come here to celebrate. I made a last-minute reservation online. The nice thing about OpenTable through Yelp, there's a 15 minute window. For some reason the reservation system double booked me, but the hostess called me and verified that there was only one reservation. When I arrived, Kylie was the hostess, and she seated me hey Leo, where's Leo at? Thanks. I just wanna see if I can actually just let him have the rest of this on here. I don't know if I can tip off the gift card thing OK $17 to give to him OK it's OK. It's it's good if he's not around how about this tell him I don't have any cash on me and I'm gonna bring my kids immediately and got my Mai Tai going on. Now it is a traditional mai tai and I have to say it's perfect. David was the bartender, I had to ask his name. Because I wanted to make sure that I came in on the day he was working because of Mai Tai was so delicious . There was also some bread and butter brought to the table. After all the years of me complaining about the bread...Finally they got new bread... they make the bread themselves and it's delicious. It is served with three types of butter. The orange butter is definitely a roasted red pepper. The other ones I'm not sure other than herb butter. Really amazing the change. What I ordered: Mai Tai x 2 Special of the day. T-bone steak 60 ounce served with vegetables, fingerling potatoes, and a really nice mushroom sauce on top. The food arrived fairly quickly. The steak was cooked perfect and very delicious. I really like the mushroom sauce they put on top. Tender carrots, and broccolini. It really was a perfect number and Leo was my waiter and he is spot on. I always enjoy having him take care of me. Professional yet friendly. One aspect.. no. while looking at the wine list ...the Wine list change...no years listed... very important to know if you're spending high dollars on on a silver oak Cabernet, what year is because some of the years are not worth the listed price. So So just be aware and make sure you ask the waiter what the years of the wines are. Other than that, it was a perfect dinner. Great service. Great T-bone steak cooked perfect and delicious. And lastly, a generous cheesecake with fresh strawberries. And again, my wife and I shared mine, so she took hers to-go and we will have seconds tomorrow. Service - 5 stars; both Alexis, our waitress, and her assistant were perfect. Professional and nearby if we needed her but not intrusive. Price - $85 + generous tip. Reasonably priced. My wife had the pan roast, and I had the lamb chop special, which is not what I meant to get, as I really had my sights set on a ribeye steak. I'm happy with my choice, as the meal was delicious! Went in for dinner, we did have a reservation. We were greeted promptly and shown to our table quickly. Within just a few minutes our waitress Debra stopped by to introduce herself, take our drink order and let us know what the specials were. Debra was very sweet and attentive throughout the evening which was very much appreciated. We opted for the calamari special for an appetizer which was lightly breaded and perfectly cooked, the grilled lemon was a nice surprise. We split a bowl of lobster bisque, which had chunks of lobster and was tasty. For dinner my husband had the macadamia nut halibut which he said was excellent and fresh. I had the scallops which were really delicious, the only criticism I would have, would be the orzo medley that was served with my dinner. The mixture of flavors competed with the scallops, instead of complementing it. Next time I would opt for a side of asparagus or white rice. Had the best dinner last night at the steakhouse. First we started with a cocktail at the bar. David was our bartender. I had a Negroni. The first one was good but he told me he had a special recipe one so I had that for my second cocktail. It was even better than the first!! I highly recommend asked David for his special Negroni. DH had a Moscow mule which he enjoyed! Several people at the bar were eating a yummy looking Turkey dinner. I was tempted to get it but I had my heart set on a steak. For dinner I ordered the blackened Prime rib. It comes with 2 prawns and a yummy sauce. It also has an onion jam with slivers of Granny Smith apples and I think pea sprouts!! It was so good! Tho it was a bit salty for my tastes. I do expect that with anything that's blackened. I also got the French onion soup which was perfect!! Not over salty!! Done just right!! DH had the filet with asparagus. Also so delicious!! He ordered a pumpkin cheese cake. It wasn't on the menu but came with the Turkey dinner. I ordered a glass of the Segheso Zin. The good was the potato and the steaks were cooked correctly but the Filet was extremely tough and the New York tasted like the gas grill they cooked it on, French Onion soup was just so so. Waited 20 to 30 minutes to get second course and second drink. They did pull the Filet off the check. Service was just not good. Not a great way to spend a romantic dinner. First time eating here, hubby wanted to try it for his birthday. Despite having a reservation it took a few minutes to seat us, once sat we were brought waters and some bread rolls that came with a sundried tomato, pesto and whipped butters. The bread was okay but I've had better. We had our drink order taken and it seemed to take about 20 min to get drinks back to us. Our server then took the order for our appetizer which we ordered the jalapeno polenta pork belly, ( I was too excited and put my portion in a plate before taking pictures).I highly recommend the pork belly app. After about 30 min our server came back and took out entree order. We got a ribeye and filet with a side of mushrooms and garlic Parmesan steak fries. The steaks were juicy but I ordered the blasphemous mid well ( texture issues with me) it did come out more on the medium side which was okay as it wasn't too under done for my liking. The hubby enjoyed his filet which was mid rare and that too came out a bit underdone. The garlic parm fries were delicious. The ambiance has a native western decor style so it doesn't appear upscale but the taste of the food says otherwise. It would have been nice if the service was a bit better as they weren't that busy ( I may just be used to other places rushing to get custom and out) they def did not rush us here. All in all of most likely come back so I can try some other items on the menu. They also provided a free bday dessert for the hubby which was a marscopne cake that was light and fluffy but very dense and heavy at the same time. This was my first time dining at Cactus Creek. Actually it was my first time stepping foot into the Bonanza Casino. When we first stepped in it is an overwhelming smoky smelling casino. As we made our way back to the restaurant the sign was a bit confusing but we found it. We were about 15 early so we started at the bar. The bartender was friendly and served us quickly. The decor definitely fits the name as it has that Southwestern look and vibe. Lighting is not too bright but not too dark. You can easily read the menu. The food was great! We got the Calamari Steak to start and it was hot and tender. I ordered the top sirloin and got it "Oscar" style with asparagus, snow crab and a bernaise sauce. Cooked as I requested. Was very tender and delicious. We were towards the front of the restaurant so we could smell the smoke but eventually got used to it and it wasn't as strong. My suggestion if you are sensitive to the smell off cigarette smoke is to try a table towards the back. Might help. Overall the pricing was very reasonable for steakhouse. Happily visited the new Cactus Creek prime steakhouse tonight for a birthday. Was able to make a reservation on the Yelp app with ease. The restaurant is decorated nicely in a cave-like decor and all the tables are situated so that you have privacy and are not on top of other diners. Debra was our server and she did an excellent job. She was friendly and kind and explained all the specials of which we enjoyed two and kept us apprised of the status of our dinner as the evening progressed. We were served bread as we waited for our drinks and then our order was taken. We decided to try two of the specials, one was the crab stuffed sole and the other was the bourbon shrimp with mashed potato appetizer. Both were absolutely delicious and large in size. We all enjoyed salads, the Caesar salad, the wedge salad and the house salad. All were very ample portions. The vegetables were all fresh and crunchy. For dinner we tried the bearnaise covered blackened prime rib, the scallops and the crab stuffed sole. The prime rib might have been one of the best prime ribs I have ever tried. A generous 12 oz slab of meat smothered in bearnaise sauce and topped with two large shrimp. It was served with sliced zucchini and fresh vegetables. The scallops were quite nice sized. Sweet and delicious and cooked perfectly. The crab stuffed sole may have been the highlight. Delicious sole wrapped around a pile of succulent crab and drizzle of bearnaise sauce. Just amazing. As we were celebrating a birthday we were served homemade raspberry sorbet compliments of the chef. The atmosphere was wonderful, the server Debra was great and the food was absolutely flawless. As we left all the staff wished us Merry Christmas and a good night. A very friendly place which I know that I will return again. read more

We had a few gift cards that we had been given from friends. So we felt like we needed to use them because we had been holding onto them for a few years. Luckily we went in just before they went to a new system and were able to use them. The steakhouse is a standard casino steakhouse decor from the late 90's. Simple, not a lot fancy bling. Not a place to impress a new date, but more of a place to go and enjoy a classic steakhouse meal with friendly and attentive staff. For the food, we ordered up the crab cakes, escargot, caprese salad, steak diane and filet oscar style. Everything was on point and tasty. We of course ordered a little more than two people could eat, so we went home with a doggie bag. My wife really loved the crab cake and I was happy to give her my portion because I knew she wasn't gonna eat any of the escargot. A very enjoyable meal. They were crispy, juicy and warm. The spicy mango salsa makes all the difference. The macadamia crusted halibut did not disappoint. It was beautifully presented and full of yumminess. Love this place! Love the curving adobe walls with pole beams and "windows" that look " out " into the dark night. You see wolves howling at the moon, and dark villages against the desert landscapes. Beautiful! Haven't been here in years. It's the same yet different. No bow tied waiter joining you at the table, describing the delicacies that await. There is a slightly more casual feel. The service is still great, and the food incredible. I chose the Duckhirn Chardonnay and a side salad, which was so prettty with colorful radishes. The bread basket was a little...as my husband said "dry". My seafood pan roast, was wonderful with big chunks of salmon, lots of scallops and shrimp. Our first time here. One of the more affordable steak houses and we were pleasantly surprised. Had read reviews about smoke problems and since I'm sensitive to this was a little wary but I did not notice much smoke smells so maybe they've improved their ventilation. Started with a delicious Blanton's old fashioned served in a beautiful cut glass tumbler and a complimentary bread basket with 3 types of butter which was a nice touch. My husband had the Steak Diane and I had the Seafood pan roast. Dinners come with soup or salad-he had chicken noodle soup which he loved and I had the garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette which was very good. The Steak Diane was very tender with a flavorful sauce. The Seafood Pan Roast was good but the sauce was definitely on the sweet side-still enjoyable. Service was excellent from the whole staff. Cactus Creek was never really on my radar based on its location. My boss happened to have some gift cards so we gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and service. The menu is fairly typical for a steakhouse except for the prices which are more accessible. The wine list is also pretty decent with a mix of medium and higher level offerings priced under comparable restaurants. My meal was cooked as requested and our server was appropriately attentive. My only real complaint has to do with the casino that surrounds the restaurant. Like most casinos, it is a haven for chain smokers and, unfortunately, that smell wafts into the restaurant. If you can, get a table in the back of the dining room away from the entrance. read more
