Exceptionally good dinner this visit. We arrived in there was a bit of a line, I asked how long of a wait for a table for two and the host said about 10 minutes. That was fine so as soon as we turned around to sit in the lobby, the guy called us and said he happened to find a table for two. So we were sat immediately. This is the busiest I've ever seen this restaurant. Pretty much every table, and they have lots of tables, was full. Braden was our server and he was at our table within five minutes. Considering how busy the place was, that was awesome. He took our drink orders asked if we actually knew what we wanted to eat, which we didn't, and so he went to get our drinks while we looked at the menu. What we ordered: 25 ounce Cadillac margarita Frolic in the sand Shots of tequila (Herradura) 20 ounce prime rib, medium rare Lobster tail Jacketed baked potato Sautéed mushrooms The food arrived quickly. The prime rib was perfect. Lobster, mushrooms. Everything was just so darn good. The star of the show was the server Braden. He was friendly and a little entertaining. Even though the place was super busy, he took the time to talk with us and make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our evening. I will definitely ask for him next time we come in here as he was that good. When the food and drinks are consistent, sometimes the only difference of a good visit versus an average visit is the server. He was perfect. I came here with a large group for my sister's birthday. She had been there many times with good luck, but I had never been there as most of us had not. I know things can go wrong occasionally, but this seemed to be a string of events. Once we ordered, it took a while to get food. I'm not complaining about this, we were a large party. When we did get our food, all of it was either wrong, cold, or undercooked. There were no wait staff around to tell, apparently they were short-staffed that night. I walked up and got the manager, who came back to the table to hear us out. They ended up comping all of the food and by the time we had gotten this far, it was already later in the evening and we just decided to salvage what we could. Some of the food was edible, so we did what we could. We kept waiting for someone to come around to clear dishes comma but we never saw anyone. There was an empty table between us and the next table over. There was an empty table between us and the next table over, and they had started stacking they're empty dishes on that empty table. We decided, we might as well do the same thing otherwise the dishes would stay put. By the end of the meal, the entire table was full of dishes. We ended up going somewhere else later that evening to actually get some food we could eat. I'm really sad that this meal went so poorly when we were trying to celebrate a birthday. We will never be going to this restaurant again. Additional after the fact, the sign outside that advertises the business has been broken for months. Nearly every other table was covered with dirty dishes, and behind the bar there were multiple tubs of dishes and trash visible on the floor. The bartender was very nice, but he was also acting as the manager for the night, which meant he was constantly being pulled away. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for it. The calamari was burned on the outside, mushy on the inside, and lacked flavor. The steak and avocado egg rolls were just okay--the filling was fine, but the sauce was overly salty. We also ordered the artichoke dip, which came with plenty of garlic bread, though it felt hastily thrown together. I ordered a prime rib around 7:00 p.m. and was told they were already out, which was surprising for a steakhouse at that hour. The final straw was the restroom. It smelled strongly like sewer, the toilet wouldn't flush because the lever didn't work, and the floor was filthy. It was honestly pretty disgusting. This place used to be a regular stop for me when visiting Reno, so it's really disappointing to see how far it's declined. Dang... this used to be a favorite place. I used to bring my friends here after today. I will never come back. The table was dirty. The floors were gross and dirty. The service was terrible, I saw my waiter twice. the Caesar salad which I should've taken a picture of was horrible, the cheese on it was hard. The cheese was brown. I couldn't eat it. Pretty good place! I went here with in-laws to celebrate their anniversary, and it was good! My mother in law said that she liked it here better than Texas Roadhouse, which is pretty amazing. If you follow my reviews you know I've been in a Birthday club with the same girls for 36 years. Tonite is the night to celebrate Patti's 60th. To be honest I haven't been to the Ruby River since the last Birthday party when Shannon turned 40 so it's been awhile. I had the garlic top sirloin, it was delicious and the meat melted into your mouth. I wish my onions could have been grilled longer and really my one piece of asparagus could have used a few more friends on my plate. Everyone enjoyed their food and service was excellent. We made a reservation for 8 and got seated right away. All of our dinners came out at the same time and for a table of 8 there were no issues other than more asparagus. The last time we were there you would throw the peanuts on the floor but it seems like they removed that type of atmosphere and the restaurant was going more for the classy steakhouse vibe. When we left there was a huge wait in the front! Glad we made a reservation. I highly advise it. Oh by the way they didn't include the gratitude for a large party and I thought that was extra nice. We decided to start date night here after several glowing recommendations. The atmosphere was much more casual than I anticipated, reminding me of some of my favorite local steakhouses in Texas. It was approachable and family friendly with western themed decor. We passed several tables where large gatherings were sat with multiple generations enjoying the space before we were led to a very private booth perfect for my fiancé and I. The menu was traditional steakhouse fare with several options that tempted me away from beef but the smell of steak from the kitchen prompted me towards a ribeye. The quality of the meat and size of the portions were both beyond expectations and our cooked to perfection. My only concern is that I don't live close enough to visit more regularly. read more

The food was good, we had steaks that were seasoned and cooked to the perfect temperature. The baked potatoes were fresh and hot. Bread was served with butter before the order was taken. I like the bread OK, wife said it not so good. The salad was fresh and the dressings were thick and tasty. Service was good the people working here make you feel like they appreciate you stopping here to a customer. The waiter checked on our table several times. I love this Steakhouse over any other steakhouse in Reno. It has a really homey feel to it, not a franchise. I always order the porterhouse. It is cooked exactly how you ask for it. Ok, this is our second time to try Ruby River. I wasn't impressed the first time but..... gotta give it a try again. Ruby River is a small chain restaurant and this is the only one in Nevada while there are others in Utah. Our server (her first night solo) did amazing!! Cannot remember her name, probably due to the darn good margarita! Ok, our orders were Chicken with a raspberry glaze. From what I was told it was very tasty, but the chicken breast l's were a bit dry. The rest of us ordered rare prime rib. Ok, this is a steakhouse, and you would think prime rib would be top notch (same as I had on my last visit) un fortunately the results were very similar. Three orders of prime rib, rare, two baked potatoes one rice. The rice was tasty and made correctly, and the huge stuffed baked potatoes were insane! They deep fry a crust on their bakers which takes it to anew level. Oh , yeah there was also prime rib. We were told prior to getting our meal that we were lucky that we got the last prime rib. Oh boy!!! I expected them not to be rare, but to my surprise they were served rare/medium but closer to rare, so good on them. The prime rib had shaved horseradish on them(nice touch), but all was lost once I dug in to my meal. I ordered a 16 oz rib and possibly took off five ounces of gristle. The Au Jus was ok, kind of missing the full taste it should have. The rest of the prime rib was not very tender as I would have expected. Ok, the meal was ok, just ok! After two attempts of exactly the same meal with the same results. I'll be heading through Utah this summer and not stopping at Ruby River. The drinks were great though! read more

Came here for a business dinner and it was my first visit to ruby river steakhouse. Let's start with the inside interior - it was pretty dim lighted w/ cowboy themed interior. Random cowboy boots everywhere, etc. Service (5/5) - I was with a big party of 10. Our server was very patient and was really helpful throughout our entire visit. She made sure we were all doing ok and if we needed anything/refilled our waters, etc. She even remembered our orders when the food came out. So Plus one star for... I forgot her name... Food (2-3/5) - I can't say it was terrible because it wasn't. I got the steak and ribs with mashed potatoes and broccoli. From another previous review, I was skeptical on ordering the broccoli but had enough liquid courage to order it anyways since I love broccoli. Ribs were dry and overcooked (see pic). Steak had a weird spongey taste to it, I'm not sure if it's because I haven't eaten out in awhile & make steak at home. But the meat tasted rubbery and spongey. It also lacked flavor. Mashed potatoes were creamy & thankfully my broccoli had no extra "protein". Overall, this restaurant is like a cowboy themed outback. Everyone else on my table seemed to enjoy their food and I probably just didn't order the right thing. But giving it 3 stars because it was a free meal and it wasn't too bad. Never thought I would try Ruby River but it was actually pretty good! A friend from out of town wanted to go, so we visited for an early dinner. The decor is indeed western themed with vintage cowboy boots everywhere and cozy, dimly-lit booths. We were sat right away and served a warm loaf of fresh bread with a ramekin of what sadly tasted like margarine instead of butter, and got our orders in. I had the 8oz ribeye which came out PERFECTLY medium and was melt in your mouth delicious! My sides were a garden salad which was okay, kind of frosty from the fridge, and a bowl of yummy French Onion soup with classic beefy broth and gooey cheese. My friend had the stuffed potato which was HUGE and she said it was good. Overall was impressed with the quality and prep of the meat and sides (except for the margarine and extra cold salad) and thought the service was great. Our server barely checked on us -- I had to ask for a second drink myself, and she didn't even bother asking if my husband wanted another. She also completely forgot his side dish, and by the time we realized she wasn't coming back, he was already over it and didn't even want to chase it down. She only had maybe two tables, yet I still had to get up and ask for our check... which meant interrupting her while she was sitting three tables away eating her own steak dinner with coworkers. We also had to listen to their gossip the whole time. Super unprofessional. The food was mediocre at best -- neither of us finished our meals and we didn't take leftovers. The floors were dirty and looked like they hadn't been maintained at all, even though there were plenty of employees hanging around the bar chatting instead of working. I've gotta admit, I am a sucker for a good cut of steak. But finding which one would satisfy my taste buds can be tougher than I thought. And when you're in Reno, you've got so many casinos offering screaming deals and specials on prime rib, filet mignon, and ribeye steaks, its hard to narrow down just one place. However, I took my chances trying out a place that only had 3.5 stars; this was none other than "Ruby River Steakhouse". Located directly on South Virginia St. and across the street from the "Peppermill" Hotel & Casino, Ruby River Steakhouse has been a long standing staple in the biggest little city in the world for several decades. This is their only Nevada location while they have 3 other locations in Utah; Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Provo. Since this was my very first time trying their food, I was hoping for a generous stick-to-your-ribs dinner that would leave me feeling full for the rest of the evening. I arrived here with my +1 at around 6:15pm during the late-afternoon/early evening of Saturday 7/1/2023. The parking lot is actually quite generous as they offer an abundance of spots available even during the busiest times. They do have very generous hours of operation being open Monday-Thursday from 4-9:30pm, Friday/Saturday from 4-10:30pm, and Sunday from 4-9pm. Reservations are not required. And from the time we entered until we were seated took less than 10 minutes; a very quick turnaround time on a busy Saturday evening. Upon entering, I loved the dark dim-lit ambiance that surrounds the entire building. Much of the decor has a prominent country/western theme to it including cowboy/cowgirl boots, a jukebox, and even signed guitars by country musicians. There are also other noticeable things including western attire (cowboy hats, lassos, spurs) and even a deer head taxidermy. This place also offers a full-on bar serving up a ton of cold beers on tap and mixed drinks. The overall look and feel of this place reminded me more of what I would see in Texas and not Nevada. As far as the menu goes, this place offers all the comfort classics. This includes appetizers including cheese fries, artichoke dip, egg rolls, and fried shrimp. They also offer a nice variety of salads, burgers, seafood, pasta, chicken, pork, and ribs. But the main reason why I wanted to come here is their steak. Here, you will find all the popular beef cuts; ribeye, New York, sirloin, porterhouse, filet mignon, and prime rib. After taking time what choice I wanted to make, I finally settled with a 6 oz. cut of the "Steak Oscar". This is a USDA choice top sirloin that is grilled to perfection and topped with crab, asparagus and their house-made béarnaise sauce. I chose a side of "Garlic Mashed Potatoes & White Gravy" and "Steamed Broccoli w/Garlic Butter". And to wash it down, I chose a large 22 oz. mug of Hefeweizen. My +1 went with a 10 oz. cut of their "Top Sirloin"; also with the mashed potatoes but a Caesar Salad. After placing our orders, everything arrived in a very timely manner; only 15 minutes. The entire presentation looked better than the pictures that I took. Probably because of this place being so dark, I didn't have the settings on my phone set correctly. As far as the steak itself, this tasted quite delicious; a little on the saltier side but it was cooked medium rare; just how I like it. The garlic mashed potatoes were amazing though but the white gravy too was quite a bit salty. I did like the steamed broccoli as the melted butter made this vegetable even something the kids would enjoy. Overall, the Steak Oscar itself was a 4.5 out of 5. All in all, "Ruby River Steakhouse" is an above average steakhouse that I highly recommend. It is no-frills meaning don't expect a white tablecloth. Even our server was in a tanktop and shorts (this was in early July) so rest assured that you can come here in a t-shirt and flip-flops. Best of all, this place is quite affordable; even with meat prices skyrocketing in 2023. I was amazed how this place has much lower prices than some of the more fancier steakhouses in Reno. With that said and done, I am giving Ruby River an above-average rating of four stars. read more
