I came here with a large group for my sister's birthday. She had been there many times with good luck, but I had never been there as most of us had not. I know things can go wrong occasionally, but this seemed to be a string of events. Once we ordered, it took a while to get food. I'm not complaining about this, we were a large party. When we did get our food, all of it was either wrong, cold, or undercooked. There were no wait staff around to tell, apparently they were short-staffed that night. I walked up and got the manager, who came back to the table to hear us out. They ended up comping all of the food and by the time we had gotten this far, it was already later in the evening and we just decided to salvage what we could. Some of the food was edible, so we did what we could. We kept waiting for someone to come around to clear dishes comma but we never saw anyone. There was an empty table between us and the next table over. There was an empty table between us and the next table over, and they had started stacking they're empty dishes on that empty table. We decided, we might as well do the same thing otherwise the dishes would stay put. By the end of the meal, the entire table was full of dishes. We ended up going somewhere else later that evening to actually get some food we could eat. I'm really sad that this meal went so poorly when we were trying to celebrate a birthday. We will never be going to this restaurant again. Additional after the fact, the sign outside that advertises the business has been broken for months. One would think that if you were a serious business that you would want to fix that. It reflects on your image. Exceptionally good dinner this visit. We arrived in there was a bit of a line, I asked how long of a wait for a table for two and the host said about 10 minutes. That was fine so as soon as we turned around to sit in the lobby, the guy called us and said he happened to find a table for two. So we were sat immediately. This is the busiest I've ever seen this restaurant. Pretty much every table, and they have lots of tables, was full. Braden was our server and he was at our table within five minutes. Considering how busy the place was, that was awesome. He took our drink orders asked if we actually knew what we wanted to eat, which we didn't, and so he went to get our drinks while we looked at the menu. What we ordered: 25 ounce Cadillac margarita Frolic in the sand Shots of tequila (Herradura) 20 ounce prime rib, medium rare Lobster tail Jacketed baked potato Sautéed mushrooms The food arrived quickly. I used to come to this place as a kid. It had really good food, a staple drink, and a pretty good ambiance. Today, I went and it was a completely different experience. Terrible, overseasoned, underdone food, jam packed with too much butter. There was pretty bad service, with no clearing of the table. I hadn't been to Ruby River in Reno for several years and decided to take a good friend there for what I expected would be a nice dinner. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. We both ordered the prime rib with baked potatoes. The salad arrived with brown, wilted lettuce that looked like it should never have been served. The baked potato was somehow even worse--it didn't even taste like a potato. I took one bite and pushed it aside. Then came the prime rib. It was so bad that I managed only two bites before giving up. The quality was nothing like I remembered, and neither of us could bring ourselves to eat it. After spending nearly $80, we walked out still hungry and ended up going somewhere else for dinner. We haven't been back here for quite awhile; trying out different establishments in Reno. Food still great and service good ! Sourdough to start. Today we got the 10oz Garlic butter Sirloin with asparagus and broccoli as sides (Yum) and 16oz Ribeye. I requested more garlic butter to put on my veggies; which to me made it pop. If you follow my reviews you know I've been in a Birthday club with the same girls for 36 years. Tonite is the night to celebrate Patti's 60th. To be honest I haven't been to the Ruby River since the last Birthday party when Shannon turned 40 so it's been awhile. I had the garlic top sirloin, it was delicious and the meat melted into your mouth. I wish my onions could have been grilled longer and really my one piece of asparagus could have used a few more friends on my plate. Everyone enjoyed their food and service was excellent. We made a reservation for 8 and got seated right away. All of our dinners came out at the same time and for a table of 8 there were no issues other than more asparagus. The last time we were there you would throw the peanuts on the floor but it seems like they removed that type of atmosphere and the restaurant was going more for the classy steakhouse vibe. When we left there was a huge wait in the front! Glad we made a reservation. I highly advise it. Oh by the way they didn't include the gratitude for a large party and I thought that was extra nice. Nearly every other table was covered with dirty dishes, and behind the bar there were multiple tubs of dishes and trash visible on the floor. The bartender was very nice, but he was also acting as the manager for the night, which meant he was constantly being pulled away. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for it. The calamari was burned on the outside, mushy on the inside, and lacked flavor. The steak and avocado egg rolls were just okay--the filling was fine, but the sauce was overly salty. We also ordered the artichoke dip, which came with plenty of garlic bread, though it felt hastily thrown together. I ordered a prime rib around 7:00 p.m. and was told they were already out, which was surprising for a steakhouse at that hour. The final straw was the restroom. It smelled strongly like sewer, the toilet wouldn't flush because the lever didn't work, and the floor was filthy. It was honestly pretty disgusting. This place used to be a regular stop for me when visiting Reno, so it's really disappointing to see how far it's declined. I hope management can get staffing, cleanliness, and food quality back to where they used to be. read more

I cannot wait to come back and visit Lily and hope I get her again as a waitress. This was my first time here and she made my visit so enjoyable. What an adorable waitress with good humor and positive energy. She had that sweet Texas charm and made sure I was taken care of. I could have stayed there all night eating and chatting with her as she checked on my table. I really enjoyed the dark, quiet, and intimate nature of the place filled with our voices as I asked her things about the menu. Overall the food was fiiire! Steaks seasoned to perfection, delicious soup, ranch, and sides, and pretty good prices. The ambience is lowkey and intimate and sometimes you want that when the workd is so loud and crazy. The food was good, we had steaks that were seasoned and cooked to the perfect temperature. The baked potatoes were fresh and hot. Bread was served with butter before the order was taken. I like the bread OK, wife said it not so good. The salad was fresh and the dressings were thick and tasty. I love this Steakhouse over any other steakhouse in Reno. It has a really homey feel to it, not a franchise. I always order the porterhouse. It is cooked exactly how you ask for it. Ok, this is our second time to try Ruby River. I wasn't impressed the first time but..... gotta give it a try again. Ruby River is a small chain restaurant and this is the only one in Nevada while there are others in Utah. Our server (her first night solo) did amazing!! Cannot remember her name, probably due to the darn good margarita! Ok, our orders were Chicken with a raspberry glaze. From what I was told it was very tasty, but the chicken breast l's were a bit dry. The rest of us ordered rare prime rib. Ok, this is a steakhouse, and you would think prime rib would be top notch (same as I had on my last visit) un fortunately the results were very similar. Three orders of prime rib, rare, two baked potatoes one rice. The rice was tasty and made correctly, and the huge stuffed baked potatoes were insane! They deep fry a crust on their bakers which takes it to anew level. Oh , yeah there was also prime rib. We were told prior to getting our meal that we were lucky that we got the last prime rib. Oh boy!!! I expected them not to be rare, but to my surprise they were served rare/medium but closer to rare, so good on them. The prime rib had shaved horseradish on them(nice touch), but all was lost once I dug in to my meal. I ordered a 16 oz rib and possibly took off five ounces of gristle. The Au Jus was ok, kind of missing the full taste it should have. The rest of the prime rib was not very tender as I would have expected. Ok, the meal was ok, just ok! After two attempts of exactly the same meal with the same results. I'll be heading through Utah this summer and not stopping at Ruby River. The drinks were great though! read more

Came here for a business dinner and it was my first visit to ruby river steakhouse. Let's start with the inside interior - it was pretty dim lighted w/ cowboy themed interior. Random cowboy boots everywhere, etc. Service (5/5) - I was with a big party of 10. Our server was very patient and was really helpful throughout our entire visit. She made sure we were all doing ok and if we needed anything/refilled our waters, etc. She even remembered our orders when the food came out. So Plus one star for... I forgot her name... Food (2-3/5) - I can't say it was terrible because it wasn't. I got the steak and ribs with mashed potatoes and broccoli. From another previous review, I was skeptical on ordering the broccoli but had enough liquid courage to order it anyways since I love broccoli. Ribs were dry and overcooked (see pic). Steak had a weird spongey taste to it, I'm not sure if it's because I haven't eaten out in awhile & make steak at home. But the meat tasted rubbery and spongey. It also lacked flavor. Mashed potatoes were creamy & thankfully my broccoli had no extra "protein". Overall, this restaurant is like a cowboy themed outback. Everyone else on my table seemed to enjoy their food and I probably just didn't order the right thing. But giving it 3 stars because it was a free meal and it wasn't too bad. Its a usual thing for my family and I to eat at ruby river while in town and have never had a bad experience. I must say we came about 6 months ago and noticed the food was disappointing but decided to give it another chance since its a regular thing for us to go there. Last night we went and were disappointed once again. The server was great but when ordered the jalapeño poppers they were frozen they replaced them with something else so that was ok. Then ordered a margarita and watched the bartender make it didnt even see her pour tequila in it and it just tasted like lime juice so that wasn't good. We then ordered our steaks and asked for them to be cooked medium and they were fully cooked. My husband didnt even get his salad until after he got his meal. This expirence was terrible. I hope after time I can bring myself to try once again to eat here but for now I think we need to find a new steakhouse. read more

We decided to start date night here after several glowing recommendations. The atmosphere was much more casual than I anticipated, reminding me of some of my favorite local steakhouses in Texas. It was approachable and family friendly with western themed decor. We passed several tables where large gatherings were sat with multiple generations enjoying the space before we were led to a very private booth perfect for my fiancé and I. The menu was traditional steakhouse fare with several options that tempted me away from beef but the smell of steak from the kitchen prompted me towards a ribeye. The quality of the meat and size of the portions were both beyond expectations and our cooked to perfection. My only concern is that I don't live close enough to visit more regularly. read more
