First time attending this establishment. Its quite a place. I was here for a group event. You see, I am a volunteer for the Reno Rodeo. They call us "WRANGLERS." So, we had our Wrangler orientation event here with dinner, beers and lots of shared information. The upstairs was the perfect size for 120+ people. The owner, I think his name is JP, was really nice and gives a lot back to the Rodeo and the community as a whole. Solid guy , if I say so myself. Plus, he has a phenomenal mustache. I ordered the Big Ass Salad, which has been the BEST salad in Reno for decades, largely due to the homemade salad dressing which was fantastic! The salad was fine, but they CHANGED THE DRESSING :( It tasted like a cheap Italian dressing out of a bottle, not even Olive Garden bottled quality. I don't mind paying $17.00 for a salad with no protein (that's extra), but I do mind getting terrible salad dressing. Another Reno icon gone. I'll miss that salad. read more

What a surprise...really didn't expect such a great evening. While deciding where to eat, my wife saw this place has smoked prime rib. Now, she bought me a smoker a couple of years ago for 'my' birthday and continually asks me to put stuff in it. So not surprising that she targeted this place. I had her call ahead to make sure they had some medium rare Prime Rib and they did. When we arrived, it wasn't too busy. I asked for a booth and we were sat in the bar. Zack, the bar tender was our server. He greeted us immediately and took our drink orders. I did. I did ask him to head to the Cook and make sure he reserved a nice medium rare prime rib for me I went with the Cadillac margarita, and my wife challenged him to make something bubbly fruity with vodka. What we ordered: Cadillac Margarita Fruity bubbly drink Smoked prime rib with fries and salad Drunken ribeye fries, and soup It was nice that vegetables and potatoes were included with the steak. So many steak houses have these items to kind of Nick and Dime you. Soup and salad or pretty quick, also some nice warm Italian style bread. The salad came mixed with ranch dressing. The entrées were followed fairly quickly. And all I could say is wow! First off, the steaks were cooked perfectly. The prime rib was medium rare and a nice applewood smoky flavor. Since they cook the prime rib over 12 hours, I was a bit worried that it would be overly smoked. But it was not, and it was also extremely tender. I got some creamed horseradish and Ajou with mine. My wife's drunken ribeye was caramelized perfectly. The bourbon sauce was amazing. Both of the steaks came with french fries and vegetables. The vegetables were cooked nicely with a little snapped to them, but still cooked through. Now here's another thing that kind of shocked me. I do not like french fries that are coated with flour before they are cooked. This is how Pinocchio's cooks them. However, they were nice and crispy on the outside and cooked all the way through. Without a doubt, the best flour coated french fry that I've had in years. So to recap, great drinks, great food, great service, and the prices were very reasonable. Laughing at the menu they think their name was big in restaurant scene. Pinocchio was a fictional wooden boy who lied. This place is a lie about food and drinks. Waitress was wonderful and should work for a good restaurant. So much crap, dusty and cobwebs. I calculated 40 yard dumpster to clean up the inside. 1pm on a Saturday and there's 2 people in there, that should've been my que to turn and leave. We finally made it to Pinocchio's! It did not disappoint. I love the eclectic decor a mix of nostalgia and family photos adds character to this place. The decor and atmosphere were 5s. Service was a 4+. Problem was management's policy of only 1 check per group--difficult for 12 individual customers plus a 20% gratuity for a group. It took us longer to figure out who had what and what their total was than it took to eat. Food was okay-soup and salad were the big hits. I had the chicken scallopini served over pasta,. Food was reasonably priced and portions were good. Our waitress was great-no one waited for anything and dirty plates were quickly removed, a big plus in my book. Their desert list was good and they serve the local ice cream which many of us ordered. Would we come back? Probably not as a group but certainly individually. Never tried this place before, saw pictures on yelp and Google. So my husband and I decided to try it. It was quiet for a Saturday evening dinner. There were football games playing on the TVs in the bar area and we sat in a booth. There was a bar with casino games and high bar stools and tables. And lots of decorations hanging on the walls everywhere! We were greeted and seated promptly no waiting. My husband ordered the Cadillac margarita. It was made perfectly by the bartender/waiter. And I requested a drink not on the menu. Fruity, bubbly,with stoli vodka -bartender made it special for me...lol. I was great! We ordered the Smoked prime rib with fries,vegetables and salad, and the Drunken Spenser Steak with fries,vegetables and the soup The soup was a beef,bean and noodle soup. It was tasty, I almost ate it all but I didn't want to fill up. They served fresh warm bread and butter which was good. And Then the Prime ribs came...OMG! The Prime rib was cooked perfectly. Nice smoky flavor on the Smoked Prime rib. And the bourbon sauce was so delicious on the Drunken Spencer Steak...the fries were fresh and taste, the salad was ok could use like cherry tomatoes because the taco size tomato pieces where not very tasty. Pinocchio's is as LOCAL as you can get. What a staple here in the Reno/Northern Nevada area, and it's apparent when you look around the restaurant and you see many local businesses' vintage nooks and crannies, and even some influential global influences too. We haven't been to Pinocchio's in a long while, not since my a work event we had a few years back. So we opted to try it out again. Luckily, lunch menu options can be requested during dinner time, so I opted in for a chicken wrap, which was pretty good and flavorful. My husband's chicken tenders were straightforward, however, could have had a bit more flavor to pack into it. My water also tasted a bit off, it is in an older building - therefore, maybe it's the aging infrastructure and pipelines, but I couldn't quite look past it. The service was pretty good, we were sat, and met with some nice servers that were helpful. Overall, good atmosphere. Not sure who owns Pinocchio's now, but it was definitely better in the past. My second time here and disappointed. This time got the burger and no taste I guess no seasoning and had a stale taste. They charge extra for using a credit card. Also on there menu they state that they are very willing to accommodate. Not true they showed a sausage and meatball app with peppers onions I asked if they could make a sausage pepper and onion sandwich or hoagie they said that sounds good you can order the meatball and sausage and make your own sandwich. Everything from their salads to the pastas to main courses have been great. If you liked smoked flavor, their prime rib is the best I have ever had. We overheard the owner excusing himself from a conversation so he could go home because he needed to be back early in the morning to put the prime rib on the smoker. Now that's the real stuff. First time dining here with the family. Our waitress was great, but our dining experience could've been better. We waited quite awhile for our food. Maybe about 45mins to an hour before our food came out. Didn't even try to offer compensate for waiting so long. Luckily we ordered appetizers to hold us over. Also, their menu is limited now. We ordered: Calamari - Crispy and good, but I would be careful when eating it because when I tried to take bite hot oil spilled out and burned my hand. Firecracker wings - Really enjoyed these. Dip these bad boys in the buffalo sauce and no complaints! Drunken Spencer - My steak was cooked to a perfect medium. Still super juicy and moist. Wasn't too crazy about the veggies. Bourbon Street Sauté - My husband had this and was disappointed. I tried it myself and it was flavorless. It was supposed to have that cajun kick, but it lacked it any kind of seasoning big time. Bread Pudding - the redeeming factor in our meal. It was pretty good. House Salad - big portion. Lots of lettuce, barely any other toppings. Liked that feta cheese was in it because it gave different flavor profile. Clam Chowder - i wouldn't say its like your typical clam chowder. It tasted more like chicken noodle soup and not creamy at all, but I still enjoyed it. I would want to come back and give them another chance, but we'll see. Gayle and I had Lunch here yesterday with our friends Jim and Marti. The interior is fun with baseball caps hanging from the rafters and all sorts of tchotchkes on the wall. We were greeted and seated promptly in a comfortable booth in the main dining area. Pinocchio's also has a nice bar area with seating. Table service was attentive, informative, and efficient. The Italian-themed menu is of course heavy on the pizza and pasta, but there's also salads, sandwiches, desserts, and a Kid's menu. As for our choices, our groups menu experience was just OK. Actually, the clam chowder was excellent. Past that, Gayle's tacos where a little short on the shrimp and not very flavorful. My Turkey Ciabatta sandwich (late coming out) could have used a little extra kick as well, but I did eat it all. Looking over at Marti's plate, an grilled or lightly breaded chicken strips option would have been welcomed, as most of that choice was left on the table. Jim seemed to enjoy his chicken wings, and as is custom a to-go box was then in order. His side of onion rings was shared around the table to OK reviews. So that's 4 stars for the restaurant atmosphere and the service, and 3 Stars for the food. That rating might have gone up if I had decided to have a scoop of 1644 Tahoe Creamery Ice Cream or at least 3 of us went a different direction on the menu. Hmmm, it's been a while since I've eaten here and I don't remember what I had the last time but this time I was craving a salad. I called and ordered the Big Ass Salad with chicken for take-out. Eek, $17! After a few bites it turned into what was basically Subway sandwich ingredients topped with Italian dressing. There were about three mushrooms, three painfully stale croutons to be exact, cheap bleu cheese that tasted like feta, canned black olives, and a tiny chunk of grilled chicken, and shredded carrots. I was just at Whole Foods and could have made a better salad for this price. Yes, it was me decision to risk this order and I can't take my time or money back but come to think of it, I've never been happy with the quality of food at Pinnochio's and sadly regret choosing this restaurant. The 3 stars goes to the guy on the phone, he was nice. And I have to add that my photo probably looks pretty amazing but I take really good food pics. This place was quite a surprise! A friend suggested we meet for lunch. It doesn't look like much from the outside (it kind of looks like a movie theater). But the decor inside is so cute - lots of memorabilia, baseball hats on the ceiling, lots of wood. The food and the service is fantastic. My husband had the Frisco burger, and said it was one of the best burgers he's ever had. I had the Turkey ciabatta and could only eat half of it - it's huge!
