I used to eat here almost daily when I worked nearby. I really like their loco moco and mahi sandwich. Also like their chili and dinner in a dish on certain days of the week. Went to Cafe 100 for lunch and noticed the dining area is closed with plastic covering all their tables and benches so we had to eat our lunch in the car. They were slow compared to what I remember how they used to be during lunch time. Also noticed the big change regarding their prices which are lately much higher too. It was surprisingly expensive especially for this type of casual restaurant food and especially since I ate here almost daily before. I wouldn't be able to afford to eat here regularly with today's prices. It was closer to $60 for only 2 people. We had 2 loco moco plates and 3 sandwiches with 2 drinks. The loco mocos (more than $12 each) tasted good as I remembered and so was the mahi mahi sandwich (more than $8 each) but the teri beef sandwich ($6+) wasn't that great so we are probably not going to be ordering that one again the future. Couple weeks ago we got 2 loco mocos and 2 mahi mahi sandwiches with no drinks and it came out to around $45 with the tax for 2 people just for the food and no drinks to take out when they still hadn't opened their tables to dine in. This time we additionaly ordered a teri beef sandwich and 2 drinks one small and one large and it came out to another $12+ so around $58 with the tax. This is only for the food not including any tip. They have a tip jar at the order window. The staff is always pleasant and friendly here. Food came out reasonably quick and as always received piping hot. No complaints about freshness here. Except the food is really expensive these days so we are simply not able to frequent Cafe 100 as often as before. Cafe 100 may be really expensive today but is a much better alternative than going to Zippys for around the same price considering the food portion sizes and overall quality of food or more like Zippys lack of food quality with unacceptable wait times. There was a pact between the owners of Zippys and Cafe 100 that Zippys wouldn't come to Hilo but it looks like that changed but Cafe 100 food is way better and always served hot and fresh with no excuses and with no bad attitudes. read more

Haven't stopped in for a while, so made sure to stop by Cafe 100, famously known as the Home of The Loco Moco®, and it did not disappoint! As a longstanding member of the Hilo community, this cafe holds a special place, rooted in history since 1946 when it was founded as a tribute to the 100th Infantry Battalion. Gave in after a pause for a little while since I just had to satisfy my loco moco fix and still refuse to go back to Zippy's or Ken's after their last food fiascos. Got their double loco and at least this time it tasted closer to it's normal goodness but one side of BOTH HAMBURGER PATTIES were BURNT!!! THE BURNT SIDES ON BOTH PATTIES WERE FACING DOWN!!! The cook didn't think I wasn't going to notice??? They were more on the blackened side on each one of their sides and not just barely burnt. I was too hungry when I ate it at home and just ate the damn things. Like eating bbq meat burnt on the grill. Some people actually like eating burnt bbq meat. I just ate it didn't bother to call them because I was pretty disappointed and surprised at the same time and admit it still tasted good believe it or not and I actually ate the whole plate. This was the first time I ever got burnt loco moco from Cafe 100. LAST TIME IT JUST TASTED PLAIN BLAND BUT BUT AT LEAST IT WASN'T BURNT. The burnt loco tasted way better than the last time though. GOOD NEWS is at least you probably won't get salmonella eating here unlike at Zippy's. I will still eat their loco moco at least once in a while since it still tasted good even burnt. If I could have eaten there I would have definitely showed them the burnt patties and requested replacement food. read more

Loco Moco very good! NO ORANGE BANG NO MORE! Dinner in a Dish very good! French fries were stale! Loco moco was under 2 bucks a year ago and now its $2.75. Rated OK. Turnovers suck! Fried chicken is for dieters because they are so tiny with little meat on them. They are always closed on Sundays and holidays seems like they like to take off a lot and earn enough money as is. There always seem to be a line whenever I go there to buy some food. read more

Very rude. It's only 4pm and they turn people away. A gentleman came to the window with people in line and only wanted a drink but gave his spot to the next person. Visiting from Arizona. Came to the Hilo side to check out some sights and wanted to get some "grinds". I can't believe this was my third time to the island and only discovered this place now. Unbelievable prices, but more importantly, unbelievable food. Hopefully, I'll be able to come back again. read more

Kalua moco is da bomb. The pig was soooooo 'ono. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. And for under $5 how can you lose? Love Hilo.

It's a bit pricy but very delicious. The food is prepared fast so you can show up and be on your way.
