This place used to be so good. I tried it again today. The current staff are either very rude or very apathetic. I ordered and got a complimentary glass of water, which I accidentally spilled and then I told the women who worked there, who made a huge deal about it saying "where the hell are my signs" and kept saying she had to "fix this problem". She told the other worker she had to "clean up this problem because if the lady comes out of the bathroom and slips then we are in big trouble". Not once did she acknowledge me and the fact that I was very apologetic for spilling a glass of water. So I had to listen to her talking to herself saying very loudly and irritated "I have to fix this problem" while I'm trying to enjoy my $12 vegetarian sandwich. Then as I'm finishing up the gentleman in front of me who had left, came back and said he spilled his entire iced tea when he left the restaurant and the workers were SO NICE to him, gave him another cup, as she is STILL talking about how she had to "fix this problem". So I support this place bc it's a small business in my community- but today i admit I was frustrated with the service. I typically order the croissant with bacon and cheese with avocado bc I don't eat eggs. And typically they allow the substitution no problem. However today they tell me we are out of croissants- and offer to put my sandwich in bread. No major problem, I'm flexible but then you go ahead and up charge me for the avocado- even when you didn't have supples to fulfill your own menu. It seems like some flexibility on the cafes part was needed. All in all the sandwich was blah- with sourdough. Very mediocre cafe in Downtown Gilroy. I was excited to give this place a try since it's a small local business with a nice location, but I wasn't impressed in the slightest. I'll start off with the good: pretty clean and nice space + decent service. I had a breakfast sandwich, yogurt parfait, and a latte. Both food and coffee were totally adequate, but I absolutely could've made each of those items better at home and saved some $$$. I might've eaten better breakfasts at hotels if I'm being honest. All in all, food is pretty underwhelming considering the price. Hope they can turn things around so I could possibly give them another try. read more

Lots of potential and disappointment. Woefully understaffed. Mgr sent workers home early. Our meals were late, missing items, and lackluster. The pastrami sandwich was bread, cheese and meat. No sauerkraut or coleslaw. Something resembling a vegetable was needed on the sandwich. The truffle egg salad was missing the truffle. And the salad. Just mayo and egg, with no attempt at seasoning or adding a crunch or color, like celery or apple. The management needs to learn customer service. I got the pastrami sandwich, now I realize I got it to go so that affects the freshness but I feel like I paid $14 for something I could slap together at home. Nothing memorable about it. HORRIBLE! I went in on a Thursday morning and there wasn't a single customer aside from myself. The two employees working at the time didn't acknowledge me, so I said hi. I stood there for a minute or two before the first employee finally asked what she could get for me. I ordered a latte, a hot chocolate and a chocolate croissant. At this time another customer walked in behind me. She must have been a regular because they greeted her in a friendly and welcoming manner. They also had her food ready for her upon arrival. The first employee took my debit card and put it in the card reader and then went off to make the drinks leaving my card in the card reader. The second employee went to take payment for the customer behind me and realized I still hadn't been given back my card at which time she handed it to me and apologized. My son and I went and sat down to wait. The first employee brought out the hot chocolate and the croissant. 1.) The hot chocolate way too hot for a child to drink 2.) it was over priced. I paid $4.19 for a 6 oz hot chocolate. Then 11 minutes later the first employee brought over my latte. I don't understand how it took her 11 minutes to make a latte. I used to be a barista and I can make a latte in 30 seconds. In addition to waiting far too long it tasted bad. At this point I just wanted to get out of there. My son and I agreed the staff wasn't very friendly and we felt unappreciated like it was an inconvenience for the staff to help us. They obviously had prep work to do and it felt like that was more of a priority to them. Bottom line: the staff is unfriendly, the food is mediocre and overpriced. Very poor quality and service. The food made by 2 girls was sloppy and old. It tasted horrible with absolutely no care for ingredients or its customers. I believe they wanted to close and leave so they tried to purposely make our food with not all of the ingredients as to leave early. When I asked for some condiments to complete the sandwich I received attitude. One of the workers had a ride waiting for her in the store where she made it obvious as she called him in front of us as she shut off the lights and music. My husband got the combo which added a small bag of chips and a soufflé cup (less than 1/4 cup) of potato salad...at an extra price of $4! The chocolate chip cookie was, as advertised, the best chocolate chip cookie in Gilroy. I love their tomato bisque! It is so delicious & it just hits the spot. Get the combo & pair it with their grilled cheese--super gooey and crunchy. This was the first place I've ever tried a tomato soup & to this day remains the best! I also enjoy their egg truffle sandwich & their chop chop salad. I work nearby and whenever I forget my lunch or don't wanna bring my own, I usually go here. It does get packed during lunch time & peak hours. Well now, here is a delightful little cafe! I had the good fortune to have been invited to The Bread Cafe to hear a Ukelele Christmas concert. It was such a delight to find that the place served outstanding food. A real treat. I enthusiastically recommend the house specialty which is sliced french bread toasted, spread with mascarpone and topped with a variety of fresh fruit. It is just out of the world! Looking around the room, everyone appeared to be quite happy with their choices. Even though the owner was present, I found the service to be painfully slow. I wanted to make a purchase after we ate, but the order line was just not moving so I had to forgo the purchase. I was disappointed about that. Rating for a to go order of their Cafe 152 Club sandwich on wheat. Needed to pickup a sandwich on our road trip, and their Cafe 152 Club was exactly what I needed. It is a club sandwich with two slices of bread (not three), which I appreciated as I find a third slice of bread takes away from the flavors inside. All of the ingredients tasted very fresh and of high quality, and the flavors blended perfectly together. If you're looking for a sandwich on the go, I'd definitely recommend this place. If you want to dine in, they had some tables in a very casual coffee-shop style environment....but I didn't pay much attention to the environment; I just got my sandwich and headed on out. read more

There was soggy bacon and really salty turkey in place of ham, and the hollandaise sauce wasn't as smooth as I'd prefer. Overall I will definitely come back again, enjoyed chatting with the staff and the location was bright and right off Monterey Street downtown and easy to find. The layout is good for the size. I originally came in for waffles, but they only serve it on the weekends. I asked what else was good, and the cashier let me know the chicken sandwich was popular with customers, so I went with that. The sandwich itself was pretty good, and the pickle on the side was also very yummy. I ordered a chai latte, but the cashier forgot I ordered that drink. I went up to ask for water with my coffee, but she didn't get the hint and directed me to a water container for customers to serve themselves. I reminded her that I had ordered a drink, and she made it right away. I did not ask for almond milk, which is fine with me that she substituted the regular for almond. When she brought me my drink, she said something like, "You wanted almond milk with that, right?" I told her it didn't matter, and accepted the drink. I feel like maybe it would have tasted better with the regular milk, but I wouldn't know unless I try it. The chai had a nice kick to it, but I feel some people might not be up for such strong flavors. Cafe 152 is a good spot for groups. I heard Tom Jones playing in the background, and a lot of the people were a little older. So maybe you can try this place with your parents or grandparents, or a small study group. My table was really wobbly, so be careful with your drinks! I have mixed feelings about my last visit, and want to go back on the weekend for some waffles. As a side, I chose a sesame pasta that included mushrooms. I didn't care for the sauce. The sandwich came with handmade chips, which tasted a bit over cooked for me. They offer a great variety.
