It was my first time visiting Cafe 86 since I was getting my nails done next to their shop, and I really enjoyed the drink I ordered however their customer service can definitely use some improvement... I was the only customer in the store and two employees were working however the cashier seemed very frustrated when I was asking her questions about the drinks even though I specifically told her it was my first time there, and I wanted her feedback on some of the drinks so I would know which one to order.... I LOVE Cafe 86. I've ordered online, over the phone, and in person. I always get the same thing, because they're just THAT good. The ube truffles are absolutely to die for. Idk what kind of heart attack concoction is in there but OMG, absolutely delicious. Aside from the ube truffles, the ube flan cupcake is also quite good. The flan has a good taste and texture, as does the moist cupcake underneath. The ube truffles coated in Oreo really take the cake though! As far as drinks go, the hibiscus cooler and teas are good. If you love UBE, you need to go to Cafe 86! My niece first told me about this place and we went to the one in Pasadena, but today we went to the one in Chino Hills. We walked in right before they closed and the employee still served us! That was a big plus in my books! Usually people say, we're going to close but luckily she did because I spent quite a bit. If you need an ube fix, this is THE spot! You will be back again and again to try the different delicious treats. Come early because the truffles do sell out. Those are insanely addictive. It is a ube ball rolled in chocolate cookie crumbles. The ube leche is soaked in an ube "milk" that is soaked by ube cake. The upside down Halo is not for the faint of heart. It is like an ube milk shake with all the yummy goodies and vanilla ice cream. I recommend that for the hard core lovers. Something I will be getting again. 11/08/2019 After visiting the Marketplace, I saw that there is Cafe 86 nearby. I am wondering if they would have the same baked goods and still have some left. The location in Old Town Pasadena sell out in minutes. It is located at the far end of the plaza away from the corner where the traffic signal is for the intersection. I could not tell if there were stairs to the right so I went to the left to enter the door adjacent to the other businesses. The chalkboard on the wall to the left is a long list of drinks. I had to ask what the drinks are listed as monster after the name. I had to ask if the Thai tea is made with dairy. I am able to substitute it with almond milk or soy milk. I didn't ask if it was additional charge for the substitution. Knowing this already, I did not have high expectations for this drink. The girl asked if I wanted to add boba which I said yes. There is a check-in offer for hibiscus drink. The ube concha muffin looked really good for a snack. Which I thought it seemed moist but while eating it I was getting that dry mouth only milk can resolve. The Thai tea seemed ok but that boba was way over cooked. It was not chewy or bouncy at all like you would get with al dente noodles for pasta. These were the mmushy-est boba I have ever eaten. Besides being bland as other tea places cook it with brown sugar or honey. I am very disappointed with this location with the food quality, in this case, drink quality. If this is how they make the drinks and boba consistently, it is a huge let down and hope they do better with coffee drinks more than tea. The only bright thing is the hibiscus drink that didn't have much or very little sugar added. read more

I am in love with this place! As a side note, this is a truly small business - it provides quality products and welcoming service. I tried their iced coffee (because, basic) and it was so smooth and delicious. I didn't get a chance, but I will definitely try their baked items the next time I go. Bad customer service and they take your money but did not give the item that was ordered... We visited this location on 06/12/2022 and made 2 orders. The first order was ube monster, Uber bar, ube cupcake, ube bread pudding with ice cream. Then I decided to try the halo halo upside down. We went home and found out that bread pudding was missing, they only give the ice cream. I called immediately and asked for a refund, they assured me that I will be refunded. I told them I live 40-60 mins away and can't possibly drive back there to get the bread pudding. Today is 06/14/2022 and still no refund posted on my credit card despite their reassurance that the refund will be processed. It's just a dessert, but I don't appreciate being lied to. read more

Visited cafe 86 2 weeks ago, so glad they're open in this location during covid :'). The one I usually go to in pasadena is closed... Its also good that we have to order online through the website & pay online , so that theres no long lines and you can just pick up. They also allowed one customer per time to practice social distancing. I ordered my all time favorite , the ube monster & the truffles, I also tried their cheesecake but didn't get a picture of it. The ube truffles are sooo good , its more on the sweeter side but it pairs really well with the ube monster!! :) The cheesecake was really good too ! My boyfriend has been telling me about this place for a while and I finally had the opportunity to try it. This is a place that specialized in ube flavored desserts so you have to take a look if you are a fan of ube! Drinks: We ordered the ube monster mini (ube & oreo milkshake) which was delicious. It had a perfect milkshake consistency while still bringing out the richness of the ube flavor. It was my first ube-milkshake and will definitely go back for it. I got a hot cookie butter latte and this was the second time in the week that I had tried a cookie butter themed latte. This was also delicious, but I definitely gravitated towards the ube milkshake more. Desserts: Ube tiramisu $3.50 This was more of a cake with cream in layers than what I would personally consider a tiramisu. This was still light and fluffy which was delicious. However, a traditional tiramisu is made with lady fingers. It would be closer to a pudding than tiramisu for me. Ube flan cupcake $3.99 Their flan was not as creamy/milky as we would have liked and their cupcake was meh. A bit dry and needed some simple syrup to keep the moisture locked in. Ube crack cheesecake $3.99 The ube crack cheesecake was definitely on the heavier side. This was my boyfriends favorite and all the textures blended well - crunchy bottom with a creamy cheesecake. Their ube isn't too flavor forward but you can definitely taste it. These were the other items listed on the display case along with the pricing. While I did not try anything else and some items were sold out, I am sure I will be back to get more things including the ube butter bar. I made plans to catch up with a high school buddy here. I was pretty excited since the Yelp reviews were solid, but I wondered how they decided on the name since "86" is a very specific number. Anyhow, I really had to use the restroom right as I pulled into the parking lot, and I noticed that the bathroom walls were plastered with all sorts of automotive stickers. And then it clicked that "86" is in reference to the iconic AE86/hachi-roku. If you're a car person, I think you'll automatically enjoy and appreciate this place more! Anyhow, I got the Earl Grey Lavender tea and my heart was set on trying the Flan Ube cupcake. I thought the tea was really strong and both the flavors came through, which is great because Earl Grey can easily overpower the flavor of lavender. The cupcake was fine, but nothing mind-blowing. The cake part was moist but very dense, and I didn't think that it tasted like ube. I guess the flan was alright because I usually don't care for all the frosting that's loaded onto cupcakes anyway, but they didn't exactly go together in my opinion... so it tasted like having some unfrosted cake with flan. Kind of a gimmick, but something I had to try once in my life, haha. The parking and location was super easy. It's right off the 71 freeway and has its own huge parking lot. I liked the car theme and would come back to support and try other things from their menu. PSA: The toilet flushes by pulling the lever UP. An ube lover's dream! Yes, my dream. The only downfall of this place is having too many great options and making me want to come back to try the rest of the menu. We decided on an ube pop tart which had a flaky yet soft thick crust. The trés leches cake caught me by surprise! It was rich and moistened with all its ube gushy goodness. The cashews on top added the crunchy texture it needed to make this a 10/10. It was like graham crackers but... better?! We had a sea salt coffee and customized it to have a scoop of ube ice cream, as if we couldn't get enough. I went here to finish off my gift card after purchasing one in the Chula Vista location ($80 for $100 gift card, can't beat the deal!) This location is 100x better! I placed my order (albiet a bit large) and I was out of there in under 5 minutes. When it got busy, the guy up front asked staff for help (go teamwork, go!). The ube crack cheesecakes and tiramisus were a hit, and their hibiscus tea with calamansi juice is always delicious. Highly recommend this place to anyone that likes ube for dessert or likes trying fancy and not so fancy drinks. The hibiscus tea is SUPER refreshing on a hot day. I only wished I bought two for myself instead of just one. Staff is super friendly and know what they're doing. They are also observing social distancing between customers. I was jonesing for some desserts (darn time of month!) and I decided to cruise by Cafe 86 for some ube treats. The location was a bit hard to find - they didn't have their lights on signalling that they were open, so it felt kinda weird walking up to the entrance. Nevertheless, we got in and they seemed to not have too many things (we got there at 6:30 pm) and were able to order the following: - Milo Cupcake: we liked this, it was moist and the frosting tasted good. - Ube Leche Flan Cupcake - this was so-so, the cupcake was pretty dry. The flan was not as soft and seemed a bit rubbery. This could've been because it was also not freshly made and I got the second to last piece. - Ube Milk Tea - I really liked this, their boba was tasty and the flavour was really delicious. Sweet but not aggressively so. - Ube Tres Leches - the texture was great but it was overly sweet and flavoured. I prefer more natural tasting desserts, and unfortunately this one missed the mark a bit. I've had a lot of ube flavoured foods and they usually don't taste processed. Overall they were fine but probably nothing overly memorable. I probably wouldn't go back, but it's an option if I'm ever craving anything ube. I can not rave about this place enough. I've always seen it on Instagram and wasn't too impressed bc I wrote it off as "just another Ube place." Boy was I wrong! This place has the freshest and best tasting ube pastries and desserts I've ever tried. The first time I visited I freaked out and ordered way too much for one person. I got the Ube Flan cupcake, Ube tiramisu, Ube crinkle cookie, and the Ube butter bar. The flan cupcake definitely stole the show! The flan is so rich and custardy while the cupcake was extremely moist and chewy. They paired so well. The Ube crinkle cookies were also very good. I wasn't expecting much but they were so fresh. They were definitely the best crinkle cookies I've had to date. The Ube butter bar was honestly so good in flavor. It reminded me of Indian barfi and Greek baklava but Ube flavored. However, it's extremely flavorful and sweet. I could only have a few bites. The tiramisu on the other hand was not the best. It was good but I was underwhelmed in comparison to everything else this bakery had to offer. The seating area is actually extremely cute and cozy. There seemed to be a lot of students sitting around and studying. The workers were very sweet and accommodating. The only downside is that this bakery does close pretty early, 7:00. Dropped by Cafe86 on a weekend and was met with quite a line as expected. I was there mainly to grab some ube goodies for a friend's bridal shower so the wait was not an issue. We also tried a couple of the drinks -- I had the ube latte and my friend got the peach mango green tea with boba. Both drinks were pretty good and I'd definitely get the latte again. For the ube goods -- we got the ube flan and the ube cheesecakes. Now I was honestly more excited for the flan because I'm not a huge cheesecake fan, but surprise surprise, the cheesecake totally blew me away. It was sooo good and honestly so addicting! Now don't get me the wrong the ube flan was also good, but it just wasn't quite as good as the cheesecake. The flan is definitely the dessert to reach for if you want something not too sweet or heavy whereas the cheesecake is your sweet tooth calling out for something delicious. Prices are a bit steep overall, but the quality is good so fair trade I suppose. There is parking at this location with a parking lot present which is definitely convenient.
