This place has been on the list of places I've been wanting to go for the longest time. I finally got to go today. It was pretty slow in there earlier today. I was able to look at the menu on my own pace so I wasn't rushed. Most of the workers did let me know that if I do have any questions or anything feel free to ask. Up side down halo halo is very good, maybe less or nothing at all of the honey oats cereal, made it too sweet. No shaved ice like the normal halo halo, but instead they use like a icy ube flavor soft serve. Since there is no shave ice. It melts super fast. Good flavor overall. Cafe 86 Service & Ambiance: The cafe dining area is very spacious with tall ceilings to enhance a spacious appearance. The main wall sports a cool wood plank, blank, and brick wall decor for clean look. Overall it's a nice industrial look with lots of neutral colors. The staff was very friendly and got our drinks to us quickly. Cafe 86 drinks, desserts, etc: The Ube Madeleine was yum and aesthetically pleasing. Something to order again and again for ube peeps The halo halo was fantastic. I appreciate the generous ube ice cream scoop but especially the think and tasty slab of leche flan at the top. Frosted flakes is makes the halo halo crunchier and adds just enough sugar to enhance the flavor. Overall, all the ingredients were fresh and the portions were perfect for the serving cup. If i wasn't full af from dinner, I would have sampled/taken down more ube desserts. I'm looking forward to rocking more ube desserts on the upcoming visits, but that's another ube tale. Ok, this place has gone downhill. I love their Ube treats, but I came here today to order literally a coffee and a concha and I waited at the counter for 5 min with no one coming to help. Finally, some random person that I thought was a customer got up and told the people in the back that there was a line developing. She then proceeded to take my order. After she took my order, she got the concha and then sat back down where she was earlier. I was waiting for my coffee and they didn't call my name, so I asked them and they weren't even making it. Then they started telling another customer to make the coffee as iced, even though I specifically said hot, so I interrupted them before they made the wrong thing. Then, they gave me this tiny coffee, even though the many times I've been here, the medium coffee was medium, not an espresso size cup. Ugh, I keep coming back for the pastries, but I don't understand why they are so disorganized here. All the white, the girl that clearly helped ring up my order was just chit chatting the whole time as if she wasn't supposed to be working that day. Cafe 86 lives up to its name as being the dessert shop with every Ube dessert you can imagine getting. I stop by this shop frequently as their desserts and drinks make it an ideal shop to find exotic foods to try out. I decided to get their "Halo-Halo" which consist of shaved ice and LOTS of different toppings. It was aesthetically pleasing and had so much things on it that it would the reason I would come back again and again. Their egg pudding is so good, I would choose any desserts they have during that day that has egg pudding in it. Their desserts change daily so be sure to CHECK THEIR IG ACCOUNT for what desserts they are going to sell that day. Their atmosphere was nice, it had a modern yet cozy look to all of their tables and furniture. They hanged lights in the ceiling and it stood out to me as it gives the cafe a more elegant look. What I love about this place is from the moment you walk in you are greeted by their chalkboard map and the mini trooper up front. As you look around you see the counter filled with with all the UBE yumminess. The decor is rustic utilizing old style wooden crates filled with old school stuff. Brick and wood for the walls. A smooth edgers plank of wood for the window counter flanked by a pair of comfy mid-like leather couches on the elevated TREX deck for an rooftop Ube Leche Flan cupcake was yummy - you must sit or bite the cupcake from top to bottom to get the full mouth taste and feel. Every time I crave ube I come here because they always deliver. Cafe 86 is a quiet and quaint little place that serves bomb Filipino teas, drinks and pastries. Most of their drinks are caffeinated so I can't have much but boooy are they delicious. They're not too sweet either which is a plus since every tea shop pours loads of sugar in their drinks making them gross. I've pretty much tried all of the items on their menu and honestly, I recommend them all. There's nothing on their menu I don't like. I needed a coffee shop to meet a friend that was relatively in the middle for both of us, would have good drinks and treats, and a good amount of seating. Cafe 86 delivered even more than I was hoping for. Let's start with the drinks. While I met with my friend, I enjoyed a hot cookie butter latte that had both the coffee taste and cookie butter taste come through well. On my way out, I opted for the yelp check-in offer of the hibiscus cooler (that requires a purchase of a baked treat) which was equally sweet and tart and very refreshing. I wasn't in the mood for an afternoon treat, but chose to take a few home for dessert that night. I couldn't resist the ube cupcake topped with flan for myself as it looked too enticing to pass up. The cupcake was denser than I was expecting, but I liked it better that way, and the flan on top was caramel-y, creamy, and a nice contrast to the cupcake. It is definitely an "eat with a fork" kind of treat rather than an "eat with your hands" kind of cupcake. I was also told that the ube Madeline and skyflake cookie were delectable as well. I felt the cookie was a bit overpriced at $2.25 when it wasn't thick and was regularly sized, but if you do the yelp check-in with it, you're getting the hibiscus cooler and the cookie for $2.25 then it's worth it. The other treats I felt were fairly priced and typical, just the cookies felt a little high. The inside of Cafe 86 has plenty of seating, with 2 and 4 person tables, a bar top along the window and a couple of couches. They have WiFi and a rewards program as well. Overall, I really like Cafe 86. It's a bit out of the way for me to go often, but it will be a fun spot to go to when meeting a friend in the middle. I have to admit I am not on the ube bandwagon. I mean, it's fine, but like matcha and taro, it's just not a flavour I feel particularly strongly about. As such, I had heard about Café 86 for quite awhile before I finally gave it a try with a friend this week. The café was clean with a modern, industrial vibe and the girl working the counter was very pleasant and helpful in explaining their menu. (I believe her name was Abigail.) We ordered a Thai tea monster, jasmine tea, and an ube truffle. The Thai tea was a bit too sweet for my tastes, but it had oreos in it so I should've expected as much. My friend found the jasmine tea unexpectedly citrusy, but I found it bright and refreshing. It would definitely go well with their boba! Lastly was the ube truffle. This was very good, although I'm still not sure I'm entirely familiar with the ube flavour. I guess I just find it very neutral. Will I be back? Maybe. I'm definitely more a boba spot kind of girl, but if a friend wanted to go, I wouldn't say no. read more

One of the most welcome transplants from that place called Los Angeles! The fam & I were getting out of a shopping trip to IKEA, and for some reason we felt like a snack! Pulled up the handy Yelp app, lo and behold...Cafe 86 nearby it is!! Ube me, baby! Being Filipino, none of us were tourists when it came to ube. But WOW, Cafe 86 sure delivers that ube punch! Almost everything is ube related goodness! Gimme a spoon! Cafe 86 has been on the radar for a bit, but we finally were on this side of town to give it a try! And it didn't disappoint! We got only a couple things this time around to share: *Ube Monster Milkshake - ube milkshake with Oreo cookies blended inside *Halo Halo Bread Pudding - bread pudding made with traditional Halo Halo ingredients, topped with ube ice cream HOI HOI HOI!!! So MASARAP! Ube Monster Milkshake definitely tasted like cookies & cream, but with that ube kick added! Totally complimentary, very tasty! I'm not normally a shake drinker but I easily slurped down 1/2 of it. That Halo Halo Bread Pudding tho!! I love me some Halo Halo on those hot Vegas summer days, but was never a fan of bread pudding. Mixing these 2 together was a welcome revelation! Bread pudding was warm, with all the tastes you know from Halo Halo - but with the cold scoop of ube ice cream to tone down the richness...heavenly! I could easily see myself eating this particular bread pudding quite often! Very enjoyable. With checkin on the Yelp app I was also able to get a free cup of Cafe 86's Hibiscus Calamansi iced tea. Note: This place gets packed and they have limited amount of desserts offered, once it's gone it's gone! The staff was super friendly, but I wish they had descriptions of their baked goodies, I literally had to ask what everything was or what it has in it (which made me feel rushed and I was holding up the line ... I've walked into the Pasadena Café 86 several times, hoping to try the popular ube flan cupcake, but they've always been sold out. When I heard that Café 86 was opening up a location in Las Vegas, I knew I had to swing by to try that elusive cupcake. One thing I love about Vegas is that if the location is away from the strip, it won't be difficult to get there nor will parking be an issue. Café 86 is located in a very large plaza on Jones and Russell. It's actually nestled deep in the plaza, so the café won't be too noticeable if you're driving by. Interior is very artsy and cute - couches, IG-able spots, brick walls - complete with dim lighting and big open windows. There's display cases with the baked treats that are just begging to be bought. I believe the locations in CA usually sell out quickly, especially of the more popular items; however, the Vegas location actually replenishes their stocks so there's a better chance of getting your hands on an ube pastry if you're lucky! I purchased the ube flan cupcake ($3.60) and dug into it right away. I definitely think it's better to eat this as quickly as possible because the syrup from the flan will soak into the cupcake the more it's left out, making the cupcake turn soggier and soggier. For something having so much hype, I thought the cupcake was just okay. I really do enjoy flan, but I realized that eating too much of it gets heavy quick. The ube cupcake was light and fluffy - not too sweet, which was good because the flan was very sweet. I couldn't get much ube flavor from the cupcake, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I recommend eating the flan with the cupcake in one bite to get that flan and cupcake texture mixture and flavor. Ube butter bars: $2.99 I wasn't expecting to like these, but they were really good! I can't decide whether I enjoyed these more or the crack cheesecake but ... I was deliciously wowed by the flavor of the butter bars, especially the ube flavoring. It had the right amount of sweetness, and I loved that each bite was soft and chewy - almost like eating a very chewy cookie. The crust on the bars contrasted with the chewiness, which I enjoyed very much. There's probably a ton of butter in this bar, but the outcome was a very delicious pastry. Ube crack cheesecake: $2.99 these were amazing as well! If I could only buy one item from Café 86, I would probably go with the cheesecake. I'm not a big fan of cheesecake in general, but mixing ube with it was a great idea - not only was the filling creamier and more flavorful, I could really taste the purple yam. I believe there's a lighter ube whipped cream on top of the cheesecake with some graham cracker toppings crushed on top. I love eating icing on top of cupcakes, so I was pretty happy with that cream. And getting that solid crust in each bite - bliss! I ate this several hours after it was bought from the store and refrigerated, but it still tasted really good - there's a lot of creaminess in each bite, so it's definitely not for everybody. I would suggest trying it if you're a big fan of ube! tl;dr - Café 86 is a great addition to Las Vegas, but the decadent desserts and drinks make it an occasional visit rather than a frequent one. Prices are quite high and there's just so much goodness that it's hard to justify eating this every week! So while my fellow Filipino friends and family dine on ube, I definitely do not left out. Cafe 86 also offers various milkshakes, boba drinks, other pastry offerings like their red velvet flan cupcake and oh my gosh - COOKIE BUTTER milkshake. Believe me, I was a little taken aback with seeing this on the menu. A part of me was like "why" and the other part was like "WHY NOT?!" If you are craving for something more savory than sweet, they make sandwiches too. I'm usually not the kind of person who has a major sweet tooth, but I am very particular about certain desserts that I do enjoy having in moderation. On my first order, I was craving for something cold to drink and opt for the Jasmine Calamansi Iced Tea ($3.10). This iced tea has a WOW factor and it taste so refreshing. I've always had calamansi with pancit, but I never knew it would greatly enhance the flavor in the Jasmine Iced Tea. Not kidding, it really is that good! Now for the Halo Halo ($6.35), it typically would have bits of crispy pinipig rice flakes scattered on top. However, Cafe 86 added their own creative and clever fun way by using frosted flakes cereal. I admit I'm a little skeptical about cereals tasting stale, but the ones I had in my cup are very crunchy and it's tasty. My only suggestion is to not skimp from giving the good stuff and add a little more ingredients like gulaman, sweetened beans, and jellies to make it a Halo Halo. The two desserts I picked were the Ube Leche Flan Cupcake ($3.61) and the Ube Tres Leche ($4.75). Both has an abundant ube flavor and it's hard to choose which of the two I like the best, because they are uniquely different in texture. The Ube Tres Leche is more of a rich sponge cake and it's topped with crumbled ladyfinger biscuit, which taste great and it gives this dessert a perfect combination of soft and crunchy. Whereas, the Ube Cupcake has a light and moist texture and when adding Leche Flan on top of a cupcake, it's like giving yourself a double sweet treat. Both are fantastic desserts and I will definitely order these again. The environment itself is spacious. They have seatings near the entrance, by the wall, and there's an elevated lounge by the window. And if you're looking for napkins and utensils, it's at a table nearby the lounge. They do offer wifi which is a major plus. The décor is youthful and simple. I especially love how they model a Stormtrooper in their shop, it is rather humorous and I am a huge follower of Star Wars. I really like coming here for the desserts! Considering covid hit our economy, it's sad to see this place has no dine-in policy in place for for social distancing. They're strictly doing orders to take-out. It looks so dead inside which I'm sure saddens everyone that comes through. Besides that, I just wanted to share some suggestions that could bring in more business if it's not already doing great on its own. I love their dessert but I wish they didn't price it too much for such a small cupcake. For the ube truffles I bought, just one cost me $2.75. It would be great if they had a package deal. For example, a good price deal if you bought a dozen or held a dozen together. Assuming for economic decline or other reasons, they also got rid of their reward system. Ordered online to pick up right before my flight out of town. Online ordering was easy and my order was ready right away which I liked. I should've checked my package before I left but didn't have time. Just quickly glanced to see I had 2 containers of desserts because that's what I ordered only to find out one of my containers wasn't what I ordered. I don't even know what this is. I ordered Ube crack cheesecake and this didn't look like it at all. Waiting on a email response from them. Cafe 86 never fails. Their pastries are always fresh and amazing! We had tried almost every single pastry except for the crinkle cookies. Our favorites are the butter bars, ube crack cheesecake, turon pop tart, ube pop tart, and the milo cake in a cup (not to sure what it's called). I really wish they would bring back the white chocolate ube bars. They haven't brought them back since Covid. Their ube milk tea is also the best! After much anticipation, Cafe 86 has finally opened a location to get our ube treat fix without an hours-long drive! If you like ube, this place will be your jam- from cheesecakes to brownies, cupcakes and truffles, and even a milkshake, the majority of the goods here are made with the trendy purple yam. The truffle is my favorite, packed with flavor but probably the least photogenic option on their menu. On the other end of the spectrum, the Churrochi (mochi pancake/waffle with cinnamon sugar and ice cream) is probably the most-snapped dish but not something I enjoyed. You can't really go wrong with the Ube Leche Flan cupcake or the Ube Cheesecake Cupcake (though I wish the latter used a liner). They also have brownies (in ube, matcha, and thai tea), as well as a few lunch sandwiches (including, oddly, pastrami?), and a variety of drinks. Even if you just pop in to grab a photogenic treat, there's plenty here to find something you like. If you have your heart set on a particular item, you may want to call ahead as the full menu isn't available daily. Also, I hear the selection is best earlier in the day. Or you could just wing it and see this as a reason to stop by frequently! read more
