Ambiance is great for studying or catching up. Service is good, too! I have no complaints! Parking can be a hassle since this plaza seems to be poppin. I was so happy when I found out they opened here in Northridge! The location is in a busy complex which is actually good for the business. The place is clean and cozy, good amount of tables inside and a great place for catching up with friends and family over dessert, coffee, milk teas and everything they've got to offer. Very cute cafe with a relaxing vibe that offers unique desserts (a lot of desserts made from "ube" or purple yam) which I personally and reminds me of my childhood days in the Philippines. I'm a certified ube lover so I was super excited to try this place. It didn't disappoint, the ube truffle and the ube flan cupcake are two of my top favorites. The upside down halo-halo is good too, but of course it's not exactly same the halo-halo I used to have back home. The calamansi cooler is refreshing to drink! Missed this place so much! I used to frequent the one in Old Town Pasadena and was so sad when they closed down. I had an opportunity to come into the area and had to visit. The aesthetics were the same and I loved the updated menu as well! I had an ube butter bar, an ube cheese cake, and my friend ordered some type of brownie with ice cream on top. The only grip I had was that the place was pretty spacious but there was zero seating. I take my ube menu items seriously - meaning I just won't eat something that is purple claiming that it's ube, it must also have strong ube flavor or I won't eat it! The ube leche flan cupcake is also the same sweet ube cake topped with a deliciously creamy leche flan. My sweet tooth was raging this day. What I got was the Ube Poptart - the pastry was just right. Definitely what you'd expect from an elevated poptart. It wasn't too hard and chalky like how the normal poptart is. Soft and inside was the ube filling. Delivered the flavor without being too sweet! I would recommend this for all my ube lovers. I came at a good time and went straight to the front! Service was quick and easy! So glad they are now in the valley. I definitely am a fan of Ube and it's not easy to find one in the area. They are always consistent with their food quality and people are friendly. Parking is also very convenient in that plaza. Some of the lattes like the Ube latte actually does not have caffeine in it but you can always add a shot for extra amount, and we did and it was bomb. I am a HUGE UBE FAN! Their menu has a good amount of drinks, also comparable to BonBon. I've been here so many times & have yet to leave a review! This place is a great start to introduce a few Filipino treats to those unfamiliar. The cafe is modern with incandescent lighting, wooden tables & vintage furniture. The staff is the best crew compared to all of the other locations I've tried; they're much friendlier here. DRINKS: I've tried every single milk tea they offer here. The Rosie, green rose & honey b are the ones I would stay away from. The Rosie & green rose have very strong floral notes & it overwhelms the drink. Honey B is better than those two but the honey doesn't really mix with the milk or tea so it's a weird drink overall. The ube & milo milk tea are the best milk teas they offer. I know these are basic choices but they nailed the flavor down. The ube one used to taste better about a year ago (they changed the recipe to have less ube I think) but it still holds up. The milo is fine on it's own but you can add an extra scoop of milo to make it taste more chocolatey. If you had to choose which halo halo, definitely choose the upside down one. Obviously more ube flavor & a unique take on halo halo. Ube monster milkshake is one of the best things they offer here. Don't question it, just get it! All of their regular teas are pretty good. Hibiscus calamansi & mahalo mango are my top ones. Mahalo mango used to taste better but again, they changed the flavor. They said they had to change distributors so now it's just an okay drink. FOOD: I love their churrochi. It's such a fun treat to eat since no one else sells anything like it that I know of. Its like a grilled mochi pancake with cinnamon sugar drizzled with caramel. It's quite sweet so I wouldn't recommend to people who don't have a sweet tooth. Most of their pastries are personally not worth it to me for the price & taste. The Milo cupcake, ube truffle, ube leche flan, & ube tres leches are fine but it's quite boring & just tastes average, nothing stands out. The leche flan isn't very good either. Ube butter bar & ube cheesecake are the best pastries they offer. Today was such a hot day and I was desperately craving something refreshing to drink. I stumbled across Cafe 86 in a bustling parking lot very close to the CSUN campus. The inside was very nice and cool in comparison to the scorching heat outside with delightful notes of fresh pastries as soon as I walked inside. As I was wondering what to order, the cashier, Szi, offered me an amazing recommendation of the mahalo mango drink which was perfect to quench my thirst. He was so kind and patient with me although it was my first time here at the store. I was also feeling a bit hungry after my classes and wanted something to eat as well but a girl in the back, I think her name was Aiesha, also recommended me the pastrami sandwich. It was a perfect recommendation as it smelled so tantalizing and also came with a side of chips. Overall the staff were so kind and helpful, 5 stars in my opinion. Ordering went very smoothly and the staff are super nice and will answer any questions you have about the menu.
