Our daughter asked us to pick up some ube desserts for our granddaughter's birthday party. She had heard that they offered options by the dozen for a special price. Instead, we were quoted per piece pricing with very few deals. For a couple, buying several treats, no big deal. Contemplating a dozen with no real discount would be very pricey. We ended up ordering several pastry styles, including ube crack cheesecake, ube Leche flan cupcakes, ube butter bar, and milo (chocolate) cupcake. Dear Hubby also ordered their halo halo, which was good, but not the best we've had of this signature Filipino dessert. We recognized the location in a busy strip mall - it used to be a fancy soft serve place. The present decor is mostly utilitarian; nothing memorable. We stopped at this cute little cafe after we finished our KBBQ. There was like Ube everything. I opted for the ube- flan cupcake because I knew I seen it somewhere on social media. I tried it on our way home. My sister gave my a taste of hers. The flan wasn't as sweet as Filipino flan is. The Uber cupcake wasn't dry so that was good. The taste together was satisfying. Parking is easy to find and there are 7 tables for seating and the inside has a nice ambience. It's a little dim on the inside though, possibly some more lighting might help. We went on labor day and they had $2 drinks! At first we got the ube and milo milk teas. Both are creamy and the boba is a good consistency. The ube milk tea does taste like most powder taro milk teas, which isn't my favorite but I know others may enjoy. I'm already planning my next trip back here for the hibiscus kalamansi iced tea. First off, I had never had Kalamansi before so I didn't really know what I was getting into at first. The cashier did such an awesome job explaining all of the different flavors and they had SO many good options to choose from. Overall, it seems like a lot of their drinks are on the sweeter side. I am not a huge sweet tea fan, but OH MAN was the hibiscus kalamansi tea soooooo refreshing and flavorful. Slightly sweet, but just the right amount. They will also add less sweetener if you ask them too :) Unfortunately I didn't snap a photo of my tea (I added boba too!) because I sucked it down too fast. The inside of Cafe 86 is very stylish and lively, with industrial bulbs hanging from the ceiling and graffiti art on the walls. I also had the chance to try their ube butter bar. It almost had the consistency of cheesecake, but with a slight ube flavor and a buttery soft crust. I will definitely be back to try more of their ube sweets! The selection in the case looked incredibly. Next time I need to pick up a dessert for a party or family gathering, I will definitely come back here to swoop some up to share! I brought my laptop to do some work as well. I recommend that if you do the same, to bring some headphones because they are located next to a martial arts studio that is pretty loud. Stopped by this cute, casual cafe for a drink and some sweets on a hot afternoon. Service was quick and friendly! There was a variety of ube flavored desserts (tiramisu, cheesecake, crinkle cookies, truffles, and cupcakes, etc) that looked delicious. Cozy but limited indoor seating and potential study space! The hibiscus cooler was super refreshing and not too sweet, it was just the right amount of sour and tart (not overpowering at all). The ube flan cupcake was such an interesting and creative combo. The flan was very thick and rich (a caramel drizzle would have paired perfectly) while the cupcake itself had a wonderful ube flavor. I'm a big fan of Cafe 86, so when their Pasadena location closed during covid, I was bummed. Glad they finally opened one in Northridge, which is conveniently close to home. They're actually located in same strip lot as Bon Bon Tea House, several store fronts down and next to Katsu-Ya sushi. Indoor seating is available that's good thing....take-out only during covid is getting annoying. Cafe 86 is known for their refreshing Teas, Milkshakes, Slushes, Lattes and Espresson Bar, but their claim to fame is there unique take filipino ube desserts like ube-flan cupcakes, ube bar, ube cheesecake, ube truffle and ube butter bar which are all delicious. Their filipino halo-halo shake is my favorite and very refreshing. The base of traditional halo-halo is made with shave ice, cafe 86 is more like a shake. The scoop of ube ice cream and leche flan provides decadent feature. Boba and chunks colored jello are tasty side-kicks. Halo-Halo is about $8 with tax and shareable, but if you're with me you better get your own because I'm not sharing. Not only is it visually stunning with all the lovely colors (the purple ube, yellow flan, brown boba balls, red and green jelly pieces at the bottom) it taste delicious too. Love the corn flakes at the top for added crunch texture and flavor. My premenstrual self was very content and satisfied. Guy at the counter was nice, I minimally interacted, just ordered. I happily got my free Hibiscus Cooler drink when checking in to Yelp. Located in strip mall, there is lots of free parking. Indoor seating and couch to sit and chill too. I tried the Jasmine kalamansi drink and it was super refreshing. We also tried the Filipino ube desserts and they were all soooo good, we got the flan, cheesecake, truffle and blonde bar. I was completely unimpressed with this Cafe 86. I don't live in SGV and have been to the one in chino hills. I had high hopes because I assumed all locations would be the same. My uncle and I stopped by on christmas eve and I'm not sure if it was because of the guy that was working that night or if this was really their recipe. I ordered a matcha latte with almond milk, and my uncle ordered his usual coffee that he gets always gets everywhere and anywhere which is a hot oat milk latte. The guy told him that they actually don't have oat milk, only soy or almond, so he just chose soy milk. Then we got 1 ube truffle and 1 ube leche flan cupcake. After all 4 items, the guy asked my uncle again what his drink was and he said hot latte with soy milk, and the kid said "oat milk?" and my uncle said "no, soy milk, because those are your only options right?? soy and almond??" and for some reason, they went back and forth about 3 times of him confirming what kind of milk he wanted so I thought that was so strange because there are literally 2 choices and my uncle chose one of them and that was apparently very confusing. After a few minutes our drinks were ready. My iced matcha latte was so watered down but I was able to taste the tiniest hint of matcha. I can definitely get a better matcha latte elsewhere. My uncle tried his coffee and made such a scrunched face saying that it was actually horrible and tasted like dirty leftover coffee water. I've never ordered what he always orders, but I took a sip and I understood by what he meant about the taste being like leftover water. We were so befuddled as to how it could taste this bad. Unfortunately, we made our way to starbucks and he got his his hot oat milk latte and I got one of their fruity teas because I needed a punch of flavor to make up for the lack of flavor in the matcha latte. So good to see Cafe 86 reopen in a new location! Congratulations in the new space! I used to go to Cafe 86 when it was in Pasadena. I am happy to see that they kept much of the same design and feel. It's a cozy spot to get refreshing drinks, coffee/espresso and ube desserts. They are known for the ube drinks and desserts. To my knowledge, I believe Cafe 86 was one of the first places that put ube lattes on the map! I recommend trying that iced and with an extra shot of espresso. Their desserts were also groundbreaking. Again, to my recollection, they were the first one to introduce me to the ube krinkle cookie, the ube truffle and my favorite, the ube flan, which is an ube cupcake topped with an upside down flan. Cafe 86 also have alternative drinks in case you didn't want anything too heavy. I really enjoyed the jasmine calamansi with boba and their iced black coffee. I highly recommend Cafe 86~! read more

I had issues with the wrong card being used so she unfortunately had to reorder my items again. Have stayed clear of this place since it opened because it looked like it'd be pricy and not very good. I had time to kill before an appointment in the area and unfortunately the coffee I ordered proved me right. Few drinks on their menu are prepared with vegan-friendly syrups or powders, with the exception of their vanilla syrup. The only milk substitutes are soy and almond, and to my surprise, there's a $1.75 charge for a substitution, even in the small size. After the milk substitute, my total for a small vanilla latte was $8.70. It was bland, watery, and hideously overpriced. Service was prompt and kind, and the cafe itself seemed well-suited for studying and casual hangouts, but is otherwise not worth going out of your way for. read more

I love coming here for one thing only and that's their halo halo. I think it's the best around. I love that they use cornflakes instead of rice crispies. They give you a good chunk of the flan and the ube ice cream tastes really good. Only issue with this location is the parking. I had sampled treats from this business at the FilLed last summer and everything was delicious. But, there are some things you have to go to the cafe to try so I stopped by when I was in the area. The cafe was pretty busy in the late afternoon but not a long wait. I tried the ube bread pudding and took some crinkle cookies to go. The crinkle cookies are always delicious and I would fill a cookie jar with them if I could. The bread pudding was warm and delicious. It does have a lot of coconut in it and I don't think the ube flavor was very strong. Luckily, the ice cream on top has a lot of ube flavor. It was a great treat on a cold day. I like Ube and was really excited to see a new store pop up near me. However, after 3 visits, this place left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. Should be noted that I mostly tried their desserts. Their drink menu is diverse but I only tried one of their drinks. First time trying Ube milk tea and I found it pretty good. It's on the heavy side but you can definitely taste the Ube. My friend doesn't like "too sweet" things and found it way sweet for her and didn't even finish half of it. YMMV. Another friend got the Ube Monster Milkshake and enjoyed it. The desserts can be a hit or a miss, I've tried most of them. The cheesecake and cupcakes are tiny! The cheesecake was flavorful and delicious but I didn't care for their cupcakes. I didn't think the flan + ube cupcake were a good combination. The butter bar is rich, fatty, and tasty. May be overly oily for some. Personally I found the milo cupcake, ube truffle, and leche flan cupcake underwhelming. Milo cupcake had a big portion of frosting and a small cake underneath it. Subpar cupcake!! I liked 1. Ube tres leches 2.Ube butter bar 3.Ube cheese cake. (and in that order) It's a shame how much plastic they use for their desserts. Especially those cupcake containers seem very wasteful. Parking can be a pain for peak hours but just circle around the lot, you'll eventually find a spot. I believe they also have one or two 10/15 min spots in front of their store. We normally go to the Pasadena location so when my cousin informed me they have this location in Northridge we were so happy as it's closer to home. We can just stop by anytime and get our ube drinks and pastries fix on. As usual their customer service is excellent from the person taking the order all the way to the barista and the person handing the drinks. The Ube Latte Iced was perfect and not too sweet. You can taste the ube. The Ube Monster Milkshake and Kouki Monster Milkshake was delicious. Both shakes were perfectly blended and not too thick and not too sweet. 4.75 STARS Order: thai tea monster First time coming to this location, came right at opening. Service was quick and friendly, ambience was clean with plenty of seating. The thai tea monster is my go-to drink anytime I come to cafe 86, its just too good! The smoothie combination is thai tea and oreo, and its never overly sweet. You can actually taste both the thai tea and oreo, and somehow they really do complement eachother well. I'm pretty sure they use a really strong brewed thai tea, and not a powder for this drink. I didnt get any desserts this time, but everything in the case was stocked and looked fresh. So the reason for the 0.25 star deduction? Price. I know it's inevitable inflation, and here the drinks are pretty on par with most boba/drink places these days. Location is easy to get to, in a plaza with decent parking.
