Up until last night this was one of our favorite restaurants of 14 years living in Dunedin. Last night that changed. We were put on the wait list by a young female hostess. About 30 minutes later we were sat. The hostess was a little sharp when we checked on our wait, explaining why we were actually behind more people than we thought. Right or wrong it was the delivery that we perceived as her ensuring we knew we were wrong and she was right and the one in control. Finally, we sat. We ordered ribs the special we come for most Saturday nights. We ordered cocktails, got our bread and salad. As we were finishing our salads the waiter came to us to share he had bad news they were out of ribs. Really, we are told as we are finishing our salads and first round of cocktails?? We asked him to please ask the manager if we can select another menu item and not have to pay the difference. Most that would have been is 4 to 5 dollars. He came back quickly and told us the manager (come to find out the same hostess was the manager) she said no to any accommodations for us, it was unfortunate usually they give the waiters a countdown or warning but not tonight. They recommended the meatloaf to satisfy our rib craving( REALLY????). I shared with the waiter and said I understood he is just delivering her message. We asked if he could please send her over as we feel this is not ok, we were not told this when ordering, when drinking our cocktails or until our bread and salad was nearly completed. It is not the same as running out and being told upon ordering they are out of ribs ( that we would have understood) you have a choice then to leave or stay and select something else that may pair better with other sides/starters. This was not the case. She came over and said no she could not extend any accommodations to us. We can simply select and pay for something else. After 14 years we walked out and will never return. How you treat people makes a huge difference. We will not only not return, we will tell ALL of our friends and our kids sports parents that live local as well. Was it really worth the 5 to 10 dollars it may have cost you in food difference to lose this much in customer patronage and receive this review. Loved it! There was a sign outside that directed us to "wait here to be seated", however it was un-manned and I was hungry, so inside we went. A nice guy came at us quickly and seated us. The place was packed at 7pm. No idea about parking, we walked from our hotel. It's a small bar inside with just a few tables, then lots of tables past the first slider. There is also seating outside on a patio. Looked like the place to be if your dog likes to dine with you. The menu had a wide variety of choices. We had the meat loaf, buttermilk fried chicken, sides were mashed potatoes, asparagus. A small salad and roll were included. Roll was perfect, loved the salad w/vinegerette. Everything was great and the best meat loaf ever! The portions were large enough to share. We will be back. Since it was packed, our waiter was really having to hustle. Cafe Alfresco is a favorite for my husband and me. We enjoy going there for a relaxing lunch. The food is very good, with many choices from a wide ranging menu. We love to watch the people walking or riding bikes along the Pinellas Trail. Soups are excellent, especially the Sicilian White Bean. My favorite sandwiches are the grouper sandwich or the Buttermilk Ranch chicken. My husband had the Cajun meatloaf on a recent visit and enjoyed the gravy that contained Cajun sausage.We both like the Chicken Curry, but be warned, the curry can be a little too spicy sometimes. This is actually my first yelp review, I've been contemplating starting with the bad service I've been having lately and this one pushed it over the edge. Me and my daughter and my boyfriend came here to enjoy a nice dinner in the downtown of Dunedin because we are real familiar with this area and love the restaurants out here, We sat down and I must say the service wasn't that bad until I realized the server brought our salads with no precaution having her thumbs in our salads to carry them to us...we then noticed flys and mosquitos flying around us. So We then asked if they could move us to the table over for that reason and our server greedy for more tables and money said "I'm sorry that's my table for a party of 4/5" and brushed it off... minutes go by to realize my daughter in shorts has 6 of the terrible lump mosquito bites on her leg.. we are so furious because we had asked to move and got denied to move for the stupidest of reasons and now my daughter suffered. We got up asked to check us out in the salads and drinks with no intentions to EVER return, highly recommend you go elsewhere to get that downtown Dunedin experience. Absolutely awful!!! read more

Most aspects about our dinner here were average. The food was okay, but seemed a little generic. The our waiter was a knowledgable, charismatic, older gentleman with a send of humor who took our order (6 people) from memory. We had to eat outside, which stifled the evening due to an onslaught of flies. There are fans outside that did eventually turn on, which exchanged the problem of flies with the problem of what seemed like hurricane force winds - though the breeze was nice given the heat of the this particular evening. The location is perfect; next to the walking/biking trail and Main Street, which is riddled with activities on the weekends. More detail about the food: I had the Cuban sandwich and my wife had the chicken parm. Both were satisfying, but a little underwhelming. The sandwich bread was a little too tough, though I understand some people like a Cuban that way. The fries that came with it were delightful. My wife's chicken was okay, per her commentary. My mother-in-law's grouper seemed heads-and-tails better than our meals, based on the bite I swiped from her. Have eaten here many times, usually very good. Tonight it didn't start well. Two of us out to eat, no wait or line but told we would have to wait. Looking inside there were 4 tables empty and available Seating 4. I asked so why can't we sit there, told. We keep them for bigger parties. 3 or 4. It's a little place on the corner of Pinellas Trail at Main St in Dunedin, with superb food and service and ohhhh the desserts! They have a little of everything on their menu to make the "what are you in the mood for?" question obsolete. From Chicken Parm to Orange Chicken and if I may recommend the Sesame Salmon (salad or dinner) just thinking about it makes my mouth water. I can't say I've ever had something I didn't enjoy nor service that I wasn't happy with. This place goes above and beyond no matter what time of day. Also located right off the path of the Pinellas Trail. I usualyl wind up dining in the sunroom area that's totally airconditioned so you're not uncomfortable. Has a great bistro/cafe feel to it. Despite living in dunedin for basically my entire life, I haven't come to Cafe Alfresco in many years. My boyfriend and I came here today for lunch/brunch with my parents. We arrived around 11:30 and there was no wait, we were able to get a table on the enclosed patio right away. However it did begin to fill up very quickly after that. On the weekends they offer brunch from 9a-2p, but the menu consists mostly of eggs benedict and omelets, none of which really appealed to me, so I decided to stick with the lunch menu. Our server brought our drinks first but then took a while to return since we were still waiting for 1 more person in our group to join. While we were waiting I asked her to bring me an iced coffee in addition to the water I already had, but that never happened. The service was continually just average throughout the whole experience, nothing great nor terrible. When our whole group was finally together we proceeded to order our meal. I got the chicken club wrap with fresh fruit, my mom ordered the lobster roll with fries and we each shared half of our meal with each other. The chicken club wrap was the superior item of the 2 we ordered (she agreed with me on this) but even then it was nothing spectacular. A bit bland and it was lacking the nuts, celery and grapes I've grown accustomed to having in chicken salad. The lobster roll was also just okay, but once again not a lot of flavor. The fresh fruit served with our meal was very tasty though and I definitely like that they offer that as a side item. The others in our group also ordered sandwiches and gave them an "a-ok" verdict. One of the best in Downtown Dunedin! We were undecided on where we were going to eat and an open parking spot made our decision for us. Lucky Us. We selected a table that had the view of the Pinellas Trail and started with one of their coconut rum drinks that really made it "right". We had great house salads, get the raspberry dressing on the side, and their "bowl of Creole" Gumbo. The gumbo made you know that their kitchen is serious and working great, it was like eating in Acadiana. My wife had the chicken picatta, one of the best she has ever had served with great side veggies and all. I had the black & blue pork chops, grilled to perfection and not smothered in topping where you would lose the taste of the pork - the homemade mashed potatoes were "to die for". Finished off with an individual pineapple upside down cake that could not have been any better. Top all of this off with great service from Paul and we had a great Saturday night out. I travel to Dunedin for work a few times a year, and I make sure I visit Cafe Alfresco each time. Not only is each item on their menu delicious, but they have superior customer service. I brought my husband this trip, and he experienced and said the same, suggesting we eat there each night of our trip. We went to eat during a rush (due to a Christmas event in town), and still were treated well, had fast and friendly service. and the manger even pulled out my chair for me. Tonight we ordered to go, and they threw in a piece of delicious pie at no additional charge. Look no further for a great place to eat. read more

Came for brunch; home fries were under seasoned and needed ketchup to be palatable, poached eggs for the Benedict were over cooked.
