No manager on site, when I asked who was in charge I was told the owner might be in tomorrow. The worst lunch in years and lack of service makes this a disaster. I really have no idea how this place is getting the reviews it is. The gyros themselves were good, but that is where stops. Saganaki was terrible both in taste and presentation. I have never heard of it taking 20 minutes, in fact I've never seen it take more than 5 minutes. P.S. it only takes 1 person to light cheese on fire, not 4. The avgolemono was a far cry from being respectable. I can see some of the veggies being tossed in there, but if your going to butcher the soup by putting them in there at least have the decency to cut them up to make them less noticable. The mixed vegetables as a side dish seemed like a complete after thought; oh no, somebody wants vegetables? Quick run to the store and pick up a bag of frozen Birds Eye veggies and no one will know. I've been to Cafe Athens several times. I don't know why I continue to go back...most probably because there really isn't any Greek restaurant available on the SouthEast side of Fort Collins. But I promised myself the last time I was in that it would be the last. Each time I go in, I always leave disappointed. This restaurant is really Renzios fast food disguising themselves as Cafe Athens. As Renzios, you know what to expect: descent Greek fast food. But as Cafe Athens, you would expect more, especially at restaurant prices. This is just overpriced fast food. If you still want to try this restaurant out, make sure you bring in a coupon, they're usually available and you can find them pretty easily. But even with the coupons, I will not be back. I've given them too many chances. So far now, I will hold off my Greek cravings or go elsewhere. read more

Food has gone down. I did not feel the meat was fresh and the sandwich was floating in sauce. But the worst was the Service. Pretty sure I would have fared better if I had been male. She finally came to my table to take my order...really appeared that it was a huge inconvenience. She took time out to open a package which was sitting at the bar. The gyro I've been looking for! Did takeout and ordered a gyro - the third place this week I've tried in the area. The pita bread is wrapped around the contents and is soft and chewy, not stuffed inside. The pita was perfect, the meat seasoned just right, the tzatziki smooth, it was easily the largest and most filling of the gyros I've tried this week. I wish they mentioned they put raw onions on it (I picked mine off), and a little more lettuce and a little less meat would actually balance the gyro better. I'll be back! read more

My wife and I go here all the time for lunch. They seem to be regularly busy but never to the point of waiting for a table. The food is consistently good. The falafels are excellent and never greasy. I have ordered the mousaka on a few occasions and it is quite tasty. Order the potatoes on the side (pass on the orzo). The greek nachos, which is actually a giant mound of pita chips topped with black olives, gyro and cheese is always a crowd pleaser. The service is pretty hit or miss. Sometimes you can't get a hold of you server for love or money. Nevertheless, the food makes it worth visiting. read more

Not allergy friendly :(. We called a few days ahead and were pleased to learn that the pizza crust didn't contain eggs, as our daughters are allergic. We went out to eat to celebrate finishing a big landscaping project - all of us hungry & tired. When ordering we asked our server to double check the pizza crust and were SO disappointed to learn that it "may contain" eggs. I'm glad we asked a second time, as a trip to another restaurant is easier to a trip the ER, but still, what a pain! We ordered our food to go and went somewhere else for pizza for our 4 kids as we couldn't find anything else safe for them on the menu. Food allergies can be a pain but we work hard to make sure ahead of time that our kids are safe and can have pleasant meals out. This wasn't one of them. Disappointing. On a side note. The fries were fantastic. Really, the only thing we liked. My spanakopita was bland & soggy, but maybe soggy b/c it was wrapped to go. read more

Don't bother to go. The service is horrible. Even trying to talk to the manager was a waste of time. They said there wasn't one working. The hostess, Morgan, was rude and would not let us sit at a table vs. a both even though there were plenty of tables. We have been here many times before and it was good, but there is all new staff and it is just not an enjoyable eating experience. Shame on the owners for leaving this group in charge! read more

Came here for lunch today with wife and 2 1/2 year old son. The menu was extensive and the food was delicious. I ordered the hot and spicy gyro plus the hummus trio for an appetizer. I verified that the tzaziki sauce was made with a yogurt base versus sour cream or mayo which was a good sign! I've been to plenty places that call themselves Greek, but make the tzaziki sauce all wrong, this place passed the test. The pita bread was soft and warm, the lamb pieces were thick, and the gyro got its' spicy kick from jalapeno slices and hot sauce; it was amazing. I agree with one of the other reviews that the kids options were limited, however our son simply ate the pita/hummus and had bites from our gyros. I highly recommend this place if you are craving Greek. read more

Normally the food I get there is alright. Gyros are pretty good, love the fries. However. Today I ordered a chicken gyro for the first time and am sad to say I completely wasted my money and ended up throwing it away. The chicken was so terrible it was exactly like canned chicken, it was extremely dry, stringy, bland and slightly fishy tasting and the pita was soaked in bland chicken juice so it fell apart. It was just absolutely disgusting and I won't be back. That chicken was a joke there wasn't even salt read more

I hesitate giving a review a little because I've only ordered a handful of items off the menu, and really always get the same thing. But it's really good! I order the Souvlaki Kabob Platter with lamb every time. The other items on the menu look great, but I always end up with the lamb. One of my go-to's for lunch. I love the gyro meal that comes with a side and a drink. It's also reasonable at $10. I always order the falafel gyro and a salad, though their fries are super good. They tend to go heavy on the onions so unless you like onion-dragon breath, ask for light onions. Service is always prompt and the food comes out quick. Best part...feta for days! Go read more

Have loved this place in the past but went to get takeout with my Mother tonight and had a poor experience. Ordered two value meals one traditional and one American chicken meal and heard the server confirm that back to us. We got our food and went home and when we got home we found that the order had been messed up and we had gotten two traditional value meals. The bag even listed the American chicken meal. When we called them they did not recover the mistake and even went so far as to question whether or not we were telling the truth. We drove all the way back to pick up the food and were not apologized to and were brush off back out the door. Now the other meal has gone cold while we were dealing with the mix up. Oblivious staff and poor customer service are two things that would make me unlikely to return to this establishment again. I enjoyed it for what it is, a Greek style place (not very authentic), which is more bar food than anything fancy. Service was good and very friendly. I was there a bit early in the evening on a weeknight so they weren't exactly busy but the staff made sure to make sure my menu questions were answered and I always had a drink. Very friendly but not pushy or annoying. The food was good, but nothing incredible. I had the lamb kabob with a side of the spinach rice. The lamb was decently cooked and not overly fatty. Very tasty. The hummus was a bit bland for my tastes, I wouldn't have minded some more garlic or maybe some added spice to it. Everything was hot and sizzling when served. My complaints were the side dishes. The kabobs were served with pita bread and a very large salad that covered over half the plate. The salad was kind of boring, just iceberg lettuce, feta, black (unpitted) olives, some tomato, and covered in Tzatziki sauce. It was really pretty boring and there was a lot of it. On the other hand the spinach rice was served in a tiny bowl on the side had some nice flavor. I would have much rather had a lot less salad and a lot more rice. Otherwise I enjoyed it, something different and not overly expensive (everything is under $10). I will be going back for a beer and a gyro. read more

We like this place pretty well. have been there maybe 10 times without a bad experience. It's one of the healthiest restaurants in its neighborhood - ie. way healthier than Famous Daves or BJ's Pizza. I think they could improve by increasing the portion size of the meats. We went here once with some friends who don't like Greek food - and they didn't like it -- but it's not really fair to criticize Cafe Athens for this. The lamb is delicious, and we always find the servers to be exceptional. We go once a month, however, we are really disappointed about how much styrofoam they use. All of the to-go containers are styrofoam (we will never get take out again), and in the restaurant they have styrofoam for any left overs. They even have styrofoam cups they gave my daughter for her milk. Its 2018, there are many options at a similar price point other than styrofoam, which never breaks down. We intend to boycott, and tell all of our friends to do the same, until they change their products away from styrofoam. read more
