I CAME WITH A FRIEND FOR THE STEAK SPECIAL AND GOT GREAT DUCK My friend invited me to dinner for the $25 steak special, but Seared Duck Breast Steak with duck fat fried baby yukons, port wine demi reduction, baby carrots for $26. When they both came out to the table I was delighted. The duck breast was larger than my friend's filet and mine came with much tastier vegetables. The only thing that could have been better was the service, which was a little slow, especially when we asked for the check and it took them more then 15 minutes to come retrieve the check with our credit card. Went here for breakfast. It is 1 block away from the main street and seemed to be the only place where I could get a non-american meal for breakfast. I got the chorizo and eggs and my wife got scrambled eggs with cheese. They served both dishes with a couple slices of a bread that resembled a french baguette. The bread was divine. My chorizo and eggs dish was absolutely amazing. Perfectly spiced crumbled chorizo. Two over easy eggs on top, with runny yolks to dip my bread in. This is probably one of the best, if not the best resto in Rehoboth. I've been there for paella night, which was off. the. hook. I want the paella! Mmmmmmmm. Other items of wonderfulness: the bruschetta. Really? plain old bruschetta? Oh yeah, if you put grilled artichokes on it & other way yummy stuff. Shrimp a la plancha w/green herb sauce was grilled shrimp w/a fresh drizzle. Also had shrimp saute in a naughty sauce w/tender spinach gnocchi. Oooooh! The asparagus was seriously awesome. Why can't I make asparagus that tastes like that at home? Beautiful scallops. Very nice salade nicoise. Very nice selection of wines by the glass. Really outstanding. No room for dessert. I go to this restaurant all the time for lunch and get the baked brie salad. Today, I ordered it for takeout for the first time and that's why they are getting three stars instead of five stars. The salad was missing components. There were no olives, there was no bread, and the portion was much smaller than what you get at the restaurant...so disappointing because I had been looking forward to that salad for at least a week. So if you're looking for a good salad, eat in and don't take out. read more

The waitress barely came to our table and acted annoyed whenever we asked for something else. The food and drinks were CRAZY over priced and we barely ate any of it. Went here for breakfast one morning and I must say its been the best tasting breakfast I've had all week, I ordered the huevos rancheros and it was very delicate and delicious with a slight spice that hit just right. The only reason this review didn't get a 5th star was the waiter was very slow and seemed to have a slight attitude. When we entered the restaurant we stood around for about 10 minutes by the front door and there was no one working in sight. Would definitely deal with it for the food though. read more

Had dinner Thursday march 19. It's more like 3.5 stars but I went on side of caution in rating since some interesting issues. Alex was our waiter, they have live music and a bartender who walked around doing restaurant work the whole time singing, I wanted to sit in the front window seats but with the music there we couldn't hear a thing so we got seated in the back. Alex was our waiter and was good. We ordered a chirozo sausage appetizer. I was with a person from Spain and he decided not like a Spanish one at all. I passed based on his review. We both ordered the Thursday steak special of ribeye rare. Both were cooked to temperature but mine wasn't as good a cut as my friends, I didnt want potatoes and asked for double vegetable, I was given ratatouille ibut I wanted double broccolini. They bought me more and it was good and hot. My original vegetable was cold. It was good just not great. The salad and bread and olives were included, we enjoyed the salads. We had drinks. I had a kir royal and he had a sunburn martini which is made with jalapeño vodka. He enjoyed it but wasn't wowed by it either, dinner overall was good, I love this place and used the Lewes one often when it was still open. Some more attention needs to be paid to the food in the kitchen. read more

This was our best meal in Rehoboth Beach over an extended Labor Day weekend. We had a variety of tapas, each of them delicious. The haricot verts with Gorgonzola and hazelnuts were wonderful. The ratatouille was the best I ever had. And my favorite was the veal sausage with white beans. Unfortunately we had not planned ahead to save room for the fabulous sounding desserts on the menu. He had great experiences at all the other restaurants we went to in Rehoboth and on our second to last night we came here. We probably would have had a much better experience if we didn't have a new waiter but we did. 45 minutes after the time we were seated and after finishing all of our appetizers our waiter still had not taken out orders and since we had others thing to do that night we decided to just get another round of appetizers instead of waiting at least another hour for a full meal. The appetizers were good but not amazing they were a little bit bland. Overall, I would not recommend this place but I am skeptical as whether or not to return next year and see if the experience will be different with a more experienced waiter. read more

Went to this restaurant on Sunday- with the belief we made a reservation thru Open Table. Once we arrived we were told that we had the incorrect place - no tables available and " we don't use Open Table". You can sit at the bar- no offer for an available time to have an open table. Turned out fine went to another restaurant and had a good meal with good service. There is a lot to be said about something as simple as good customer service.- easy to do unfortunately not everyone does this. read more

We had a small wedding reception (of about 35 people) on the back patio on a Saturday night, and it was wonderful! The patio had a nice, relaxed, private feel to it. The food and the service were both fantastic. We did the meal tapas style, and the dishes were all tasty and creative, and the pacing was perfect - the dishes came out one after the other with just enough time to relax and chat and have some more sangria before the next dish came out. Considering that most of our dishes were seafood (scallops, calamari, shrimp, etc.), the total cost was extremely reasonable. I love Azafran's and when they opened in Rehoboth, I thought I died and went to heaven. Was there New Year's Eve again this year. Meal was superior from beginning to end. Only complaint is the music. While the pianist was phenomenal, and the singer behind the bar was great as well, the venue is so small that the music became the event and you couldn't enjoy your meal or your conversation. It became all about the music and you were forced to pay attention. That was a bummer. It was intrusive. Thank god they took a break. Again, talent was clearly awesome, but I was so looking forward to visiting with my friends that I was really frustrated. read more

We stumbled upon Cafe Azafran as we were trying to get into another busy Rehobeth restaurant on a Saturday night. They were so gracious and sat us right away. Although it wasn't your typical kid friendly restaurant, they could now have been nicer to our almost three year old accommodating all of her needs. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome. On top of that, the food was absolutely delicious, the staff was friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant was wonderful. We went to dinner and was pleasantly surprised with a post season seafood fixed price menu for $26.00. Since my mother and sister and I all love seafood, we ordered two full course dinners and shared it. The appetizers of Spanish Garlic Shrimp and Seared Scallops was delicious. The grilled salmon was perfectly cooked, and the other entree of pasta with scallops was also very good. An organic Cote de Rhone was a fine accompaniment. Stopped in around 6:30ish on Wed, June 29th for a few appetizers an cocktails. Shared the bruschetta with artichoke, the baby lamb chops, spinach gnocchi, and the grilled corn. We were treated to a sensory explosion. Vibrant colors and presentation, delicious blending of herbs and spices. Perfection. It really was a wonderful experience. It started with the hand crafted cocktails that were well balanced, extremely refreshing, and made with care by our bartender whose name eludes me. (He was blond and very friendly.) Great food and ambiance! A great variety of light salad offerings with protein of choice. Our party had the salad Nicoise with seared scallops done to perfection, the offering of the day with fresh strawberries and Brie, the beet salad with fresh halibut, and the Azefran crab cake. I had the crab cake, which was very well prepared, tasty crabmeat with very little filler, probably about 8 ounces of crabmeat served with fresh succotash and mashed potatoes. Drinks were generous and mixed well. Great desert. Servers were knowledgeable and attentive. We had reservations and were were seated on time. Highly recommended. read more

We went exploring with our Groupon coupon for a new alternative in our local area. There were three of us in our party. We had three Groupons, but read after printing them that we could only use one per visit, per table. We have encountered that before, no problem. We had an early reservation and entered a sparsely seated restaurant. We were seated at a table about five feet from the restaurant entrance. This was not a problem initially, but as people started coming in, it was. The outside temps were around 40 degrees and it felt like a deep freeze every time the door opened. We didn't ask to be moved because we had started to eat and had other issues surfacing. Those issues took precedence. In retrospect, we should have asked to be moved. When we received our menu, we were informed that the Friday seafood offering was not available on our Groupon (the ONE we were now going to use), because it was a "promotion". It didn't look like a "promotion" to us. The pricing was consistent with the rest of the menu. Of course, all three of us desired that offering so we then decided to just cash in our Groupons at face value, not utilizing them for any discount at all. When we told our waitress, she disappeared to talk to "Chef" to see if this was OK. I observed her talking to a man in the rear of the restaurant for 5-10 minutes in a rather spirited conversation. She finally returned, saying "Chef" would agree to this. We couldn't understand the issue, since we just wanted to collect on the money we had already spent. When the meals arrived, they were nicely presented and of good quality. We all had the crab cake, which was delicious and Maryland style. The appetizers (scallops and calamari) were also very good and done to perfection. The only issue with the food was when unknowing customers decided to hold a conversation with the entrance door open our meals got cold. Our waitress was very good, attentive and non obtrusive. It was obvious that she was put in the position of having to deliver bad and what we considered to be unreasonable news. I rate at two stars because of the overall experience If the experience had been better, I believe I would end up giving them a 4 star rating. If the purpose of programs such as Groupon is to get folks in the front door to discover who you are and what you had to offer, they failed miserably by making it a bad experience by their obvious reluctance to participate in the program. We will NOT be back, based on that attitude. read more

Here's the thing. It's 5 stars for food. It's 5 stars for ambience. It's 5 stars for how nice staff is and how competent they MIGHT be. But we go to this restaurant several times a year. It's the first place I think of to recommend to people looking for a nice place. So why 2 stars. Because whoever manages this place staffs it horribly. I. Mean. horribly. It is always a long evening. Ok. I prepare myself mentally for long although I question why it is sooooo long an evening to go there. But now, on multiple occasions, we've had truly inexcusable delays there that are the fault SOLELY of poor management. And we are spending, typically, with tip $300 at this place for 8 people. There's no sales tax in Delaware. That's actually what they get from us. None to the government. We know this place well, so: I expect several things from them very, very promptly, despite the lousy staffing. Water all around. Bread with olive oil and olives. Oh. and an acknowledgement we exist. With luck, though very, very mixed experiences, we might get our beverages on the early side too. Tonight? It took over an hour to get the water and that's cause a member of our party went out in search of anyone? anyone? Her first time through the dining area, she found no one who worked there was visible. We saw at least two tables of two just leave. Then, we got water but no bread or olives. Eventually, I mean close way, way later, our beverage, food and dessert orders were taken by the only person serving in the outside area who was doing triple or more duty. Still, our beverages did not show till just about the time our food order trickled in slowly not in a way that served everyone something at the same time and with apparent mix ups in what was coming to our table. It's tapas in part, but at this point, they owed us big time. We actively asked for the olives and bread which COULD have staved off this review had they been served as usual, but I get grouchy when I'm hungry. Very, very grouchy. The thing is, it wasn't just a bad night. On two occasions, we've actually waited 30- 45 minutes there for a favorite dessert. We've waited over half an hour for our check on more than one occasion. We've had nights when the kitchen was so slow we didn't get served for a long, long time even though we'd been served the bread, olives, water and beverages and had our orders taken. How does this place stay in business with such lousy, lousy, lousy timing/staffing? We have returned and returned. Is this an abusive relationship? What would it take for you to go back again, knowing, knowing the risk is huge that you are going to feel actually angry at the place and TOTALLY unappreciated say 1-2 times out of every 3 visits? read more

Went in for breakfast, as it was right down the block from my hotel. Sat at a table, after being told by a voice that came from nowhere to "seat ourselves." Had a waiter come up after a couple minutes to take our drink order. My husband and I both order a coffee and orange juice. A waitress came to the table a few minutes later with coffee and water. We never got the orange juice. First, my coffee was cold. Cold enough that any wait staff would notice. My husband had to take my coffee to one of the staff to point it out because there was no one paying attention to us at all. Finally, after I had a hot cup of coffee brought to me, our orders were taken. My husband got an omelet, and I ordered a "European waffle." I figured it was like a Belgian waffle. I was wrong. I'm guessing it was European because it was flown, frozen, from Europe and microwaved. It was cold, it was soggy, it was bland, and the size of an eggo. I could have gotten a better waffle at a holiday inn express. In short, 2 different waitstaff, who didn't communicate, cold coffee, bad food, and forever wait time. Have never been there for dinner, and never will be, but breakfast is a definite no go. read more
