The Food Service understated Elegance is impeccable, the monochromatic color tones emphasize the importance of food...definitely not a vinyl covered corporate style restaurant. Ah the food, I've been 3 times already with each meal at Rare climbing higher than before, perfectly cooked steaks, seafood that was caught in the morning all prepared with spices that compliment each entree. Appetizers are amazing, salads crisp & delicious, a menu selection that will cover everyone's food preferences if you order medium rare steak that is what you receive. Dessert is best to be shared they are that sizable & addictive !! The wine list is superb with a waitstaff that is more than willing to help you choose the correct vintage for your taste. Well THAT was a little disappointing! Heard good things so decided to check it out. Inside the front door is quite congested, no room to wait, so had to hang outside for awhile. The dining area wasn't much better, just tight all around. Appetizers: wife had lobster ravioli which was incredibly good, I had the golden coastal trio, not bad, but over-breaded. Entree: wife had the revolution steak. For some reason, filet was very pale almost as if it was boiled! No sear at all. I had the delmonico, Was thin which looked like a steak from Weis supermarket! We enjoyed our anniversary meal at Rare, The wedge salads were the best we have ever had. Filet was excellent and done to temperature. Crab cakes with Saffron Rice lacked flavor. We made our first visit to Rare this week. We both started with the lobster bisque (good, but very tomato forward) and my wife had the beef filet trio and I had the Rockfish special of the day. Both meals were excellent. There is an extensive wine list at reasonable prices for the venue. The service was exceptional, even on a crowded high season evening. The ambiance is decent but it got more crowded and noisy as the evening went on (we were seated at 6:45). Came here the other day especially with all the hype....save your money. A big disappointment from the start with our waitress. We felt like all she wanted to do was get us in and out. We all like to start with cocktails; there's no list...She said that they are very capable and can make anything. Well, she had to check to make sure they had the liquor that we asked for...so she got stumped. Appetizers are not truth to menu. 2 of us order the seared lamb chops; one asked for well done, (she washed sure if they can do it)...The other asked for medium rare. They were pounded out super thin and were deep fried. No where did it say that...not very good. Steak we ordered all came out under cooked ( steak house needs to get the temps right)...Person next to be hers was so rare, almost blue. My barrel cut rib eye was also so undercooked. I asked to have it refired. The waitress told me people usually keep their sides; I told her no...take the whole plate away from me. The amount of Bearnaise sauce they serve you is like enough for the whole table but no one tells you that; essentially when they charge $9 for it. One person chose not to have steak because they were afraid that they wouldn't get the temperature right. She went with the rigatoni; which we all felt it tasted very odd. We also had a nice bottle of Cabernet. It wasn't worth the money when it's two couples and the bill is over 400 and we felt rushed and bottom line the food didn't live up to the hype. read more

Visited Rare with two other couples. Were seated promptly at our reservation time. Restaurant is pretty noisy and tables are fairly close together. Drinks and wine were served promptly. Raw oyster, ceviche, and wedge salad were very good. As was the oyster duo. Fish special was rock fish and my friend said it was ok, a little dry. Lobster tails were ok. I had the Delmonico and it was just ok. Cooked perfect but not a great cut of steak. My wife had the Barrel cut steak and she loved it. Someone had the lobster ravioli dinner and also liked it. The Rare giant chocolate cake is big enough to share. If we want back I would order the Barrel cut rib eye, and the ceviche or oyster duo. read more

We were seated on time even though they were busting at the seams. Our waitress was lovely and accommodating. The other waitstaff chipped in when she was otherwise occupied. We were well cared for. The restaurant is well decorated and the bathrooms were clean and accessible. The food was impeccable. I've eaten at Ruth's Chris, 1776 , harvest tide and others. My porterhouse was so delectable as was my husband's prime rib. My 92 year old mil inhaled her rack of lamb. The burrata and oyster appetizers were so good. It is rare that I don't have a criticism so here is one. Bring a jacket. Brrrr. Reservations should be made because the word is out!!! read more

We had our first meal this week. It was a very positive experience. The front seemed a bit clunky. Although we had a reservation, the staff seemed a bit uncertain as to where to seat us. The salads, steaks, and sides were done well. The mushroom demi glace was delicious. Even when my wine order was unclear, the staff resolved it without question. The front section is a bit noisy. Absolutely no complaints. Ambiance was nice, our server, Atanas, was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. Food was delicious. Warm rolls served with regular butter and honey butter which was a nice touch. My sister and I each got filets which were cooked perfectly. She ordered the Rare Pair which was filet and lobster tail. The lobster tail was tender and would melt in your mouth. The baked potatoes were served very hot which was great. I hate getting a warm baked potato. Believe it or not the stand out of dinner was the Maple Luxe salad. It is delicious. The dressing light and flavorful and the almonds, apples, cranberries, cheese and mixed greens paired perfectly well with each other. Also ordered onion rings which were very good. Server returns " we just ran out of the prime rib. OK. Orders the ribeye. Server returns again. "We just ran out of ribeye. OK. Now just bring a steak!!! Ordered a bottle of the Berringer cab. First visit and first impressions not all that favorable . Definitely was expecting more . Waitress was personable but not overly attentive . Four of the 5 of us ordered appetizers and main courses . When the main courses were served there were only four . The waitress didn't place the main order for the member of our party who did not have an appetizer. When the steak eventually was served it was undercooked . Meals and appetizers were 50 /50 . Half very good the others average at best . After all had ordered individual desserts the table was given a comp piece of cake with an apology from the waitress for her error . No table visit from the proprietor which we would have expected given a situation such as we experienced. The ambiance was great . I was looking forward to this dinner, especially after all the hype. We had a reservation. We arrived a little early and had a drink in the bar while waiting for our table. Bar service was excellent, and then it all went downhill from there. We were seated at a table with a view of a fan, dehumidifier, and highchair next to us, and a solid wall in front of us. It was hot as hell in there. It must have been 85 degrees. We were told that a bigger HVAC system is needed to cool the space and management was working on it. I ordered the filet mignon, which was tough and flavorless. Steakhouse chain restaurants have better filet mignon. The vegetables were fair and the baked potato was good, although I had to ask for butter and sour cream. My companion was satisfied with the scallops. Overall, I was very disappointed with the ambiance and food. I don't know why, but this place has polarizing reviews. I will not return. read more

A RARE New Gem on the Culinary Coast! Congratulations, Alex and Tamara, on creating a classic, fine dining steakhouse experience in Five Points / Lewes! Three of us went to dinner on Thursday, May 21, and could not have been more pleased! We were warmly greeted by the hostess upon arriving. Alex and a few other familiar faces from the old 1776 stopped by our table to welcome us. We began with cocktails and a glass of wine. The generously-sized cocktails were expertly made and served with a sidecar - a nice touch! Molly, our server, gave us plenty of time to peruse the menu while we enjoyed our cocktails. Our starters were the lobster crab bisque, the RARE wedge salad, and the Golden Coastal Trio - a mixed of fried shrimp, calamari, and scallop chips with a creamy horseradish sauce. The trio has plenty to share. Our dinners were the Revolution Steak, the RARE Pair, and the NY Strip. All of the entrees and accompanying sides were delicious! We finished with chocolate gelato, vanilla ice cream, and coffee. Service was friendly and well-paced. We are looking forward to returning soon! read more

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with a sleek, NYC-style ambiance that sets the tone the moment you walk in. This is not the case in many restaurants in the area. The staff are exceptionally professional and genuinely customer-focused, and the meat dishes are fantastic. My only constructive suggestion concerns the lobster ravioli. I'd love to see it reimagined as a true ravioli dish, letting the pasta and a great sauce take center stage, rather than mixing loose lobster in with the ravioli. read more

We heard so many good things about Rare Steak and Seafood in Lewes. Four of us ate there last night. Two of us had filet, one had Delmonico and the other had the NY strip. We all ordered our steaks medium RARE. All steakes came back just beyond medium. We did eat them and they had good flavor. We should have sent all of them back, but it was too late when we made the decision. I can't see how all four steaks were over cooked. If you are looking for a quite dinner, not here because it is quite loud. We found it very hard to carry on a conversation. Also there could have been a few less tables because it was very close quarters. We expected more for $50+ steaks. All four of us decided we will not be coming back in the future. I wish them luck and hope they get things straightened out. read more

I was at Rare opening night and gave it 4 stars, which for opening night is great. I dined there again this evening and have given it 5 stars. The lamb was delicious and cooked perfectly as were the steaks that were ordered. The vegetables are consistently excellent and flavorful. The staff are friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about the menu and preparation, although our favorite waiter Michael was not working this evening! I like sitting in the back room as it is quieter and will visit the bar the next time. This has become a favorite place! read more

Such a disappointing experience! I ordered a filet and asked for medium. It came out medium rare to rare. My husband ordered the bone-in ribeye and asked for medium rare. It came out medium well to well done. He and I ended up swapping steaks, but the well done ribeye was tasteless and hard to chew. We did enjoy our shrimp appetizers and baked potatoes. It's worth noting that the noise level in this restaurant is off the charts! We went for a date night, looking forward to great conversation and a great meal. We literally couldn't hear each other speaking across the table because it was so loud! Not the relaxing vibe we hope for. 100% mediocre in every way, from the service to the quality of food. Was it awful? No. Was it average? Yes. To all those who have said that the steaks are terrific, with all due respect...I don't believe that you have ever been to a true steakhouse. Just because a steak is aged does not make it a good steak. It all comes down to the quality of meat that you are aging, and this meat is not steakhouse quality. Among other things, the steaks that we ordered had very little marbling, the true sign of a steakhouse quality steak and from where the true taste of a quality steak is derived. The side dishes of mashed potatoes and asparagus were very pedestrian, no different than you would get at virtually any other restaurant. The baked brie appetizer was so sweet and sticky that it was barely edible. The service was patchy, at best, with us being forgotten quite often and having to ask for things from another server multiple times. One of the main downfalls and poorly designed aspects of Rare is the ridiculously small bar, consisting of literally ten bar stools. It's impossible to sit and have a pre-dinner drink at the bar b/c of its small size and the fact that almost all of the bar patrons were also dining at the bar, so they were going to be seated for quite a long time (certainly not their fault--they were absolutely doing what they are entitled to do). I have no idea who designed such a small bar, but it's ridiculous. Another negative aspect is the very cheap interior design. A dark green paint covers the entire restaurant from head-to-toe (some of which is already peeling), trying to create a speakeasy atmosphere. It fails miserably. There is little artwork to offset the horrible and uninviting color, and it feels way too claustrophobic. Also, the noise level is through the roof. So...the choice is yours. I see no need to rush back. read more
