We've been in the Tampa area five times in the last two months, and have tried several Vietnamese restaurants each time, for total of eight different places. We always order some type of noodle soup. If I'm grading on food alone, Cafe Bích Nga has been the best so far. Their soup broth has good flavor and most importantly the soup has depth (which means they use more bones for base soup than other additives). Their soups are oilier than most, which also suggests that they use more bones. Different herbs/greens are paired with different soups. Bích Nga has been the only restaurant in the local area that gave shredded cabbage for the Bun Bo Hue. They didn't give shredded banana leaf, but did offer shredded water spinach instead. Most other places just give you bean sprouts and basil and call it a day. Everything was actually very good, but each bowl is a whopping $16!! (I know it's post-Covid but still) That is pretty pricey considering it's a no frills restaurant in a no frills neighborhood. read more

Can't believe this place doesn't have spring rolls but they do have garden rolls for appetizers. The family came in for lunch. We ordered pho dac biet, bun bo hue, com tam bi dac biet and com thit bi. The family said it's better than most and it was delish. The tea that they served was pretty tasty, bro asked what was in it and the worker said it was a mixer of different types of tea, I definitely tasted Thai tea. Our lunch here was not a good experience. When we sat down to order I immediately let the waiter know I was going to use a YELP check-in code special for 25% off the bill. He said ok. Then we asked if the chicken was chicken breast white meat that came with rice. He said it was chicken breast. So we both ordered it, since all we ever eat is white meat chicken. The food arrived & the chicken was dark meat, full of cartilage, bone pieces, skin, & fat. This really annoyed us, but we ate around it. Then we went to pay the bill with the YELP check-in offer. The cashier said she wouldn't take it. So we said the waiter was shown it before we even ordered & said it was fine. The cashier wanted to argue with us, which was very uncomfortable & unprofessional. I just let her rant. Staff is very friendly as soon as I walked in. The young fella was extremely nice & thanked me for coming when I walked in. Lots of space to sit and spread out. I ordered spring rolls and spicy beef soup. Not a big fan of their spring rolls. They were warmer than what I've typically had but I ate them. My experience was tainted by incredibly slow service. And I pinky promise I'm not being dramatic. And sooooo I would highly suggest ordering ahead for takeout. It was a quiet Thursday night. 3 of us sat at 6:40pm, we our server finally out order after 20 minutes. And then nearly an hour later 2 of us got our soup, while our 3rd friend still had to wait to get theirs. We also didn't get any of the toppings we asked for (lime, sprouts, jalapeño). The service aside, my soup was very mild in flavor and none of the chicken was edible as it was alllllllll gristle and fat. Been meaning to try this place for years. They moved and I haven't been over to the Pinellas Park/Seminole area for a while. Well I worked there last week and stopped in. Place isn't much entering but the staff is very friendly. I ordered seafood Hu Tieu which was very good. Go ahead and put a crown on this Bich Nga. This place is the Pho King greatest. Bun Bo Hue seems to be the house specialty. They also serve up a corn gruel soup with pig parts that looked good. And they have several banh mi types, fresh rolls and Vietnamese coffees. Honestly the straight up water they serve with lime is good. I wanted to try their shakes (durian, jackfruit, or soursop) but the lady who makes them goes home at 2.. Very friendly service. I did have a mosquito bugging me. But this is definitely the real deal. If you want a more fusion gringo version go with Green Mint. I hate to give this only 1 star. The food was fantastic! But sadly, I will not return. Someone forgot to tell this business we're in the middle of a pandemic and that Pinellas county has ordered the use of masks inside. While here today, all 4 of the employees we saw walking around failed to wear a mask over their mouth. All guests that arrived failed to wear masks and during our lunch a table of kids were running around the restaurant barefoot and maskless licking their fingers in and out of the prep area behind the counter for employees. I know it's hard to follow all these new rules 100% of the time, but this business certainly seems to be giving the middle finger to it all. And you have to wonder if they are disregarding these safety precautions, what's being disregarded in the kitchen where we can't see it. I had a beef soup with noodles, not pho, I forget the number. It was good at the time. The bowls are super huge. It was filled with some veggies, I wish it had bok choy, but it didn't. I speak a little Vietnamese and was trying to communicate with him and I named the platter in Vietnamese. I got that across and I was asking in English how much the dish was and he would answer 15 minutes. I would then say no and asked him again how much the order was. Basically we went back and forth 3 times then he finally just hung up the phone. He literally got fed up with a potential customer trying to order food and hung up on me. Wanted to have some pho after a beach day. Decided to try this place out because it has a unique name. The restaurant is clean, but they use the dining area as a storage unit pretty much. There are boxes of food, condiments, etc. on the floor and also on the shelf on the wall. The pho was good, we asked for more jalapeños, and they gave us some even spicier peppers, which totally went to waste... I took a small bite of it and I was on fire. Each table had a tray of sauces and seasonings, one of which was shrimp sauce. I had never seen or heard of shrimp sauce before, so out of curiosity, I opened it and smelt it. I think it could have been a tad more spicy, but overall it was good from the mini sample I got from my friend. This seems to be the popular item to get btw. The bun mang vit was pretty good. The broth was sweet; my friend said it was too sweet while the other said it was good. The dipping sauce for the duck was bland, but the entrée itself was good in my opinion. This is a cute little modest restaurant located in Pinellas Park on Pinellas Boulevard. They have a wide selection of Vietnamese cuisine and drinks. Once you're seated, you're offered either a water or a free/complementary iced tea. Their iced tea is pretty refreshing. It tastes like a water tea version of Thai tea unsweetened. This location appears to be very well known to the local Vietnamese population, as I've observed the few times that I've been here. By that logic, the food must be very authentic and good, I assume. The wait staff is efficient with making sure your order is received and delivered within a decent time frame from my experience. The only thing that's a little different from other restaurants is that you have to pay up at the front counter. All in all, I've had a cozy and delicious experience. read more
