I was hugely disappointed in my order here. I got a soup and a curry, the curry was ordered at the 15 spice level (extra hot) and the soup at 25 (Thai hot). The portion for both of these were quite tiny despite the high prices. Worse, my spice request was likely not noted, the curry was sweet, they must be adding alot of sugar to it. I love spice and was greatly disappointed by this. The soup tasted mild/bland as well. Another issue with the soup was that I only got 2 shrimp despite paying $6 for it! This was the chicken satay.. it not only looks bad, but also is way too dry and has no seasoning. The peanut sauce is also like terrible, which is unfortunate. So hard to believe how long this place has been here and how long it took for me to try it. Was in the mood for some Thai food and did a quick search on this place and read some of the reviews. Some friends had also told me about this place before too. I decided to give it a try. Walked inside around 7:30pm on a Thursday and the place was empty. I wasn't even sure that there was anyone even working there but I could hear something in what appeared to be the kitchen area in the back of the restaurant. It took several minutes, but then out came one of the workers and I went ahead and placed a to-go order for some vegetable phad thai w/o the tofu (and with a spice level of 5 out of 25), as well as the curry pops and the stuffy wing (which they were all out of due the price increase of them). I went with the spring rolls instead. It took hardly any time at all before my order was ready. The phad thai was really good, but it was definitely lacking on the amount of vegetables. It was a lot of noodles, which I do like as well. Great spice level and great phad thai flavor. Just wish it had a tad (not phad) more vegetables. Curry pops were ok - not sure I'd order them again. Our party of five met for dinner here at 6:15 pm on a Tuesday night and we were the only people in the place, which concerned me. But throughout the rest of our dinner many people came and went, which reassured me. This struck me as the type of place that only locals would come to, located as it was in an almost barren, run-down strip mall. The waiter was completely on the ball, easily accommodating all of our special food requests, diligent about keeping our water glasses full, and giving us rice as needed. For my entree I had the Clay Pot Shrimp and it was really good. The pot was filled with shrimp, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, ginger, and those glassy, thin bean thread noodles. The sauce had a nice, sharp, gingery taste. The shrimp were nice size and plentiful - my only complaint was that they were overcooked. Tried this restaurant with a friend who has been coming here for years. It was very cute and quiet inside. I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu and peanuts on the side. It was delicious! This place is a solid Thai place in the Gateway area. From the outside it may not look like much, but the quality of the food is good. The servers here are always friendly and will bring you what you need. The portion sizes here are also pretty good. Not too much where you leave feeling bloated, but also not so little where you leave feeling hungry. The portion size is just right where you leave feeling satisfied. I got the Masamam Curry this time. I love the several large chunks of potato that are in the curry. They do such a good job of absorbing all of the flavor of the curry and help in the process of making the dish a satisfying and filling dish. The toasted cashew nuts help provide texture to the dish and the onions and coconut milk help to give this curry some nice sweetness that balance out the other savory notes. Very disappointed with this place. Picked up dinner here. The curry had very little curry in it, it was mostly onions and about 5 shrimps. When I first opened it up, it almost looked like they forgot to put the rest of the curry in it. It was so low. For the money I paid (which seems to be standard at every Thai place) the amount of food I got was not worth it. Lastly, I don't know if this is what Thai food is supposed to taste like (maybe I've never had real Thai food) but the curry was sweet. Some of the weirdest Thai food I have ever eaten. Located in the same plaza at Cody's Radhouse, we walked over to try something new. There are many businesses and apartment complexes in the area, so most of their business is actually take-out customers. We dined in for dinner on a weeknight and there was a steady flow of customers in and out of the front door. Why was the food so weird? Because it was super sweet and filled with canned vegetables. I have eaten here twice cause I work near by. I've had lunch and I've had dinner, both to go. For lunch, which I had yesterday, I got the mixed veggies with tofu. It was fresh and delicious. At first I thought it looked like a small portion but it was actually the perfect portion for lunch (no one needs to be in a food coma at work). There was plenty of veggies including snow peas, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, carrots and onions. As for dinner (which I also took to go) it was slightly more expensive than dinner and you did get more food. I ordered the green curry. Food came hot with ginger salad. I ordered the curry with shrimp. I was slightly disappointed it didn't have more veggies in it because it was just peppers and onions I think. After discovering this neighborhood gem I have frequented it numerous times, the latest for take out on a football night. Had the stuffy wing, not greasy, very tasty. The pork laab, always good and served with spicy chilis. The sweet potato rolls (like little empanadas). For dinner had the chicken panang curry and the tofu pad thai. Good Thai food! I went for lunch and had their Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp, medium hot, and it was very tasty. I also ordered their spring rolls as an appetizer, their were perfect in size and cut into 4 pieces. I got a side of sticky rice which comes as a side from their lunch menu. The prices were good and the place was clean. I was seated a few minutes after walking in and the staff was fast. Great place to stop and have some great authentic Thai food. Never had the opportunity to dine in at Thai Wok, but have ordered take out from here a number of times. I am a lover of most Thai plates, and they offer up a good variety here. I love that they ask you what level of spice you'd like the dish to be. They don't play with the levels so just be extra cautious, friends. I can take the heat, but I usually play it safe and say "medium", smack-dab in the middle of the spectrum, which is perfect to my liking. My ultimate favorite goes to the penang curry, which I like to switch up and get either shrimp or chicken with. Both are executed really well and made just like the recipes back to my old stomping grounds in the tri-state area. Pad Thai and Pad See Ew are my other go-to's. I have yet to try their Thai basil fried rice which is on my list. I'm sure they won't disappoint. As I mentioned earlier, I will have to make time to sit down and actually dine in, but the host and hostess are always so friendly and accommodating. I am giving this this place a 4/5 because this place has great Thai food around the area. Also, the ambience is clean and welcoming. My family and I had dinner here with a friend. Apparently, they are regulars in this place as well as many other people. When we arrived, there were not as many people so it made me question whether the food is great but the food was great and possibly due to the very rainy weather that people were just ordering food to go and not eating at the restaurant. However, people started trickling in for dinner as we finished our food. 2 stars - for great food! I ordered the Panang curry and I wish it was more spicy so ask your server if you can have more spice to it if you like spicy food. The server can also explain to you the level of spiciness so just ask your server. Otherwise, the server can give you the spicy flakes as well if you were not able to mention the spiciness level. I also tried the Pad Thai and crispy noodles. I like the softness of the Pad Thai and I think it was just perfect. Also, THEY HAVE UNLIMITED RICE!! As the girl who grew up eating rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the unlimited rice just really caught my eye! So if you love eating rice, this is the place to be. 1 star - for awesome service. Our server was pretty helpful and they already know my family and the food they order because they are regulars. It is always nice to have servers remember their regulars. It just shows how much they value their customers. 1 star - for a welcoming and clean ambience. Also, clean bathrooms! -1 star - just because they did not have big servings. The food is so great that it needs to come in bigger servings. I wanted to try their Thai tea but I don't think they have it or I just did not look close enough. LOCATION: It is next to a barber shop that is close to a brewery house in a shopping plaza. I am not really familiar with this area. However, there is a huge parking lot because it is in a shopping plaza so parking is not an issue. Overall, I recommend this place to everyone. I had gone to this place before but I just recently learned that it is Cambodian owned by family friends of my Cambodian sorority sister, who are in-laws of the Janet Mittendorf owners. Small world! I am so happy that they don't force an obligatory, waistline-threatening glob of white rice on you and politely ask you how much you would like. I ordered the Pad Prik Kaprao (basil stir fry) chicken and it was on point. My friend had the Thai Wok delight which also looked quite good. A decent Thai place... I've never dined in and have only gotten take out. My 3-star review instead of 4, is simply because a Thai joint just minutes South of this place offers the same size, quality, and taste chicken Pad Thai dish for $2 less. Also, the Tom Kha soup here that I normally love elsewhere is VERY heavy on the lime juice. By heavy, I mean almost instant-heartburn-inducing! We ordered the spring roll and curry pop appetizers, chicken pad see ew, and chicken fried rice. Spring rolls were nice and crunchy. They came out nicely presented- two egg rolls cut into threes. The curry pops- ground pork and sweet potato filling seasoned with curry wrapped in a won ton skin and then fried. Yum! My pad see ew was good. Seasoned in a light, sweet sauce. I'm used to the sauce being a bit darker and more flavorful, but I still enjoyed it. My son liked his fried rice- it was a little bland to me and tasted kind of burnt maybe? But he ate most of it and he's pretty picky lol. Service was excellent and I guess it's supposed to be more fine dining than those other places (cloth napkins here, no paper!)
