"Bích Nga, that's that sh*t I don't like" - Chief Keef. Really didn't want to have to use that quote but I was pretty disappointed especially reading all these gleaming reviews. This place has its own building but is deceptively small. There are also only a few parking spaces, but it's probably enough because the restaurant can fit only a few people anyway. Despite the small size, it wasn't crowded when we went. I also never see a lot of cars parked in front when I drive down 19 so space is probably not a problem. When we walked in, however, the place looked really clean. The tables, wallpaper, chairs, etc. looked relatively new or at least well taken care of. However, when we were eating, there were several flies flying around, which is the reason why it's getting a 2 star rating from me. This has been mentioned in another recent review so this may be a new problem. I hope they fix it because I would really like to come back and give this place another chance. The service was pretty meh. When we sat down, we were quickly brought menus as well as iced tea/water mixture thing (complimentary, though I would have preferred just water). After we were brought our food, the server never came to check on us again. However, Asian places like these aren't known for having the best service and I don't think this place is severely lacking compared to others so I will let it slide. As for food, I ordered the bun bo hue, after reading some of the reviews and I gotta say....it was only ok. Though for the price, it was fair. The portion was decent and they give you a decent amount of meat as well. First time having bun bo hue so I have nothing to compare it to though I think I'll be getting something else if I ever come back. I've been to Vietnamese places where the garnish that comes with the dish was soggy but fortunately this was not the case with Bích Nga. So overall, my first experience with Bích Nga is a 2/5. Having flies all over the place is a pretty big deal for a restaurant and I hope they fix it immediate. I also think I just happened to order something I didn't particularly enjoy because the picture of the other food looks delicious. I think this place deserves another chance and if I come back, I will write an update so stay tuned.. PS. I have visited this restaurant twice in the past few weeks, on a quest to find the best pho in St. Pete. The stand alone building is a bit worn. There is plenty of parking. A major clean up in the garden would be a good start. Upon entering, unfortunately the smell the greets you at the door is not pleasant or appetizing more reminiscent of a stadium urinal. Again a major cleaning would do wonders. Undeterred I found a seat and ordered what I came for pho tai. The service was very friendly and promptly delivered a steaming bowl of soup. The broth here is very good with more depth of flavor then most others in the area. The unique flavors of cinnamon and star anise come forward and are complimented by fresh herbs and citrus. The noodles are cooked nicely and a fair amount of rare beef was served. I returned with my BF a week or so later and found the same result. The food at bich nga is always made with the freshest ingredients, and is located in a quaint little quiet strip mall right on park ave & off us 19. The food is always made here fresh to order and cooked & served by this small little elderly couple. When ever I eat here it just takes me back into time and gives me memories of my grandparents making one of my favorite home cooked dishes just for me. It's seriously the cutest thing ever as once you sit down and order once you get served as you are guaranteed a great meal from anything you order. I was craving Bún Bò Huê and decided to try this place out. Thankfully they were open and had seating available upon arrival because I tried calling prior to going but they did not answer the phone. They got pretty full after I was seated and a few people had to wait outside. Parking is limited here. The Bún Bò Huê was alright. I got the extra large bowl and it was a good size. Prices here are reasonable. But my noodles were short and choppy. They were most likely the noodles left from the bottom of the package. The service here was not the best. Getting closer to the restaurant, I'm still getting the 'this restaurant could totes be a front' vibe. However, when I opened the door, I understood, and I proceeded to order a solid meal. The wait staff is late-middle aged, and speaks poor English, but if you ask me, it adds to the authenticity of the food. They certainly aren't going to put an American spin on Viet food. I ordered a Banh Mi sammich to go, simply because I'd rather eat on the beach than inside. While my order was being put together, I observed some of the best looking Pho I've ever seen. I have been wanting to try this place for a while now since everyone tells me the Bun Bo Hue is really good here, so I decided to stop by and try this place out. Walking in, the place was really small. There were a handful of tables, most of them occupied already. There were only two people working and one guy seemed overwhelmed, but they managed. We sat down and quickly ordered our meals; bun bo for me and my sister; banh canh (tapioca noodle soup) for my dad; and bun mang vit (duck noodle soup) for my cousin. The food came out really quickly considering the guy was telling us how overwhelmed he was. My dad, who is a pretty picky eater, and will tell the restaurant if he liked it or not to their face (Vietnamese old man tells it like it is); thought his banh canh was really good. He said the broth was flavorful with a good portion of meat. I agree, as I also tasted the broth. My cousin who ordered the duck soup had the same sentiments regarding the broth and portion size. As for the bun bo-good portions of meat and the broth was seasoned well. It had a nice spicy kick to it (and they had a side plate of shrimp paste and hot spices to put in it). You can tell they simmered the broth in lemongrass (which is one of the main ingredients in bun bo, and a staple) of bun bo. Another ingredient in bun bo is shrimp paste which I love, and was happy that they brought out extra for us to add. Was this bun bo the best I ever had? No, because that honor goes to my dad who makes the best and everyone raves about his, but if I had to go to a place to get some, I would recommend this place. Vietnamese food isn't on the top of my Asian favorites, but I would have been one serious Bich Nga if I skipped out on this place. Now my first impression was pretty bad. The outside dining patio tables were all covered in soiled plates and upon entering I was greeted by an old friend. "ah, hello dangerous amounts of yellow curry, so nice to taste you with my mouth and eyes" I said to the air. Shortly after a small man weathered by 40 years of restaurant experience came to my table and wiped it down in front of me with a rag. He brought me water with lime and I ordered an iced coffee. It was thick, sweet, and very strong. Perfect. Never been to Vietnam but if that's what all of their coffee is like then why did we pull out of that Bich Nga in the 70's? I ordered the Ban Bo Hue or something everyone was raving about on yelp. It was good, had some spicy broth and the meat was tender and most of it was a little fatty without being gross. My lady half got some sort of chicken pho with egg noodles. Now that shit was delicious. Best broth I've ever had in a soup. Wish I ordered that instead, but there's always next time. Give it a try. There are several pho places in the area near Bich Nga but I'd find it hard to believe any of them make a better broth than our guy and the woman in the back endlessly tearing cilantro. And no, I don't think they have any idea that Americans get the giggles when they see their sign out front. read more

I'm Vietnamese and I can say this is the BEST Bun Bo Hue I've had at any restaurant. Honestly, we came here because on the way to a Yelp event we saw the name and, well, it definitely stood out! My Viet friend Alex taught us the proper annunciation, and we also learned how to order the traditional Vietnamese Iced Coffee as well. Their ca phe sua da was good and much-needed after sitting outside to wait for it. Three stars because the wait was pretty long for just 5 iced coffees. Although they warned us it'll take 15 minutes because they had to make a new batch, we waited much longer than that. Luckily we weren't in a hurry but we did have a long drive back home to SoFlo. Ordered the bun bo hue along with a special pho and both were okay. Nothing that I would really rave about. This place is located at a cool spot and the people there are nice but I don't think they know how to handle a big crowd. Wait times were bad, each table got their dish one by one depending on who came in first and you practically have to wait your turn on your dish unless you got an appetizer which thankfully we did or else we would've starved. I ordered up the combination pho with rare beef, brisket and Meatball which was delicious and an order of the Bun Bo Hue. The Bun Bo Hue, although I can appreciate the compexity of the dish just wasn't my cup of tea. Too much going on. The Pho however was excellent and priced very well. The little old lady behind the counter was kind and even served me water while I waited for my to go order.
