This place advertises itself as African, Moroccan, and Mediterranean cuisine, but it's nothing more than a fancier iHop. My bf and I came for brunch Saturday morning, and we were definitely the youngest people there. No big deal, since the restaurant is cute with its blue walls and great view of... some wooded area? We ordered the bacon-wrapped filet ($15), torta de patatas ($9), coffee, and a bowl of fruit. Coffee was mediocre and came with a stale wafer. The fruit was soft and tasted like it'd been sitting in the fridge all week. My egg cake with potatoes, leeks, and onions turned out to be a dry egg frittata. It was just way too dense for what was advertised. It also came out lukewarm, and the salsa had a strange aftertaste. At that point, maybe I was just so biased that I started picking on everything. The only positive was the portion size. The bill came out to something like $35, a lot more than I wanted to pay for a really lousy meal. At least the service was good. I have a feeling their lunch and dinner menu will be a lot better than brunch, but I'm just not willing to drive back out there to try it. read more

First time here and I have no complaints. They have a nice selection for lunch. The chicken fettuccine alfredo is a must try. Everything was well seasoned and they give a pretty good portion. Staff and service was great, one of the best parts (not typical at breakfast/brunch) was the warm fresh bread with homemade jams when they brought out the drinks before the meal! We ordered the Tuscan Waffle with 2 poached eggs, feta cheese, spinach and tomatoes and my hubby ordered the Classic Eggs Benedict with a side of bacon. Everything we had was delicious! It's a little bit pricier than your average cafe, but well worth the money for what you get. We will definitely be regulars here now that we know it exists! read more

The first time I went for Brunch I had a friend from out of town. They kept us waiting at the door and then escorted us to a VERY small table for two. The waiter evidently had repeat customers there, that he totally catered to, neglecting our table. We were never asked if we wanted dessert. Brunch was so so. I decided to try it again and we met another couple there for Brunch. The waitress had on some cheap perfume that was unacceptable for an eatery. The WORST Bloody Mary I have EVER had and the muffin on my Eggs Benedict was untoasted and I had to look under the eggs to see if they actually put the ham on it. I was having a brunch date with my best friend and we discovered this place through yelp and decided to try it out. We made 1pm reservations just because it was a Sunday and the Sunday crowd is a busy one. When we arrived we were seated immediately, the first thing I noticed was the live music- they have a pianist in the restaurant. Our server took our drink orders immediately and delivered them to us promptly but then didn't come back to take our order for over 15 minutes. We didn't receive our food for another 40 minutes too, so we concluded that the service is slow. Our server didn't really give us the time of day, which I figured was probably because we weren't dressed as nice as the the church crowd, but the rest of the staff was very friendly so I just assumed we were stuck with the one server who didn't have the best attitude. I had the salmon tempura Benedict which was OK not the most impressive, but the waffle was absolutely delicious, melt in your mouth. Went here with the boyfriend for Sunday brunch and it was delicious. We had Biscuits and Gravy, French Toast with fruit, and the American Breakfast. All the dishes were perfect. Fluffy biscuits and creamy, flavorful gravy. The bacon was crispy and the French toast was to die for. My boyfriend said the coffee was also very good. Me and the old lady ate here about a week ago. It's a nice place, dress was at a minimum casual, and there were several coming in from church that were dressed to the nines. We started with mimosas which were good.they brought out a little plate a fresh bread with a couple of different jams which were both excellent. The old lady ordered an omelette which she really like, while I ordered the chicken fried steak with two eggs and hashbrowns. It was just ok. We've just had brunch here for the first time. The Eggs Benedict was excellent, and at $9.95, hard to beat. I needed more hollandaise, which they oblidged. Our server (Sonia) was attentive, and the $4 Bloody Maries were really good (rather large, too). I looked over the lunch and dinner menu and found an appetizer of Foie Grois, and they served it to us, even though it wasn't an item on the Brunch menu. This appetizer was beaiful and delicious, with small rolls to smear the foie gras, carmelized onions, portabellos, and apples....such a treat. We will be back to try this place during the week. My wife and I come here every now and then for our date nights. It's near our house and consistently good. The service is excellent. There is that fine dining feel, yet casual. Always a good place for conversation as the acoustics keep the ambient sound comfortable; except when there is live music. But even then we have never felt overwhelmed by the noise. We always get the hummus with ground lamb as an appetizer. To be honest, the portion they serve could easily be a light meal for two with drinks. Not a fan. Came here for brunch and the food took SO long. 45 minutes, really?? I understand when a restaurant is busy but having to wait almost an hour is kind of ridiculous. When my party asked the waiter about the status of our food, he responded in a very annoyed way as though waiting almost an hour isn't a big deal. This is a lovely little place in the Energy Corridor area. (It's owned by the same folks that brought Lynn's Steakhouse to the West side.) The decor is bright and inviting and compliments the Mediterranean fare well. The service is good, and the owners are often bustling about checking on the guests which is always a nice touch in my opinion. One of the coolest things about this place is their approach to wine. They use a 2.5 ounce serving called a "point", and you can order ANY wine on the menu in this size. This concept was devised is to encourage patrons to try many different wines without the commitment or price tag of ordering by the bottle. To quote the website, 'Let the juice speak not the bottle!' As you may have guessed, I'm all for the point system - it's brilliant! Most of the wines are on the lighter side in order to compliment the food they serve, but there are a few "bigger" wines there too. The food is a fusion of different Mediterranean influences - African, European, and Middle Eastern, with a definite nod to the American palate. They've done a good job of creating enough choice that there is really something for every taste here. For awhile, I struggled with an addiction to their Chef Sandwich, which was quite something considering that the sandwich goes for $11 a pop. In fairness, it's served with fries (twice fried frites style - yum!) and their delicious Persian salad which is very similar to fatoosh. There is something about that sandwich that just cannot be duplicated no matter how I try.... While some of the menu items might be a tad overpriced (did I mention the $11 sandwich?), it's not terribly expensive - especially given the great ambience and service. Enjoy! read more

Cafe Benedicte is tucked away in the corner of a shopping center on Memorial drive. I was most surprised how classy the atmosphere is. White table cloth, piano player, a beautiful patio; the most picturesque breakfast I have ever had in Houston. What made the experience is the pianist. He walked around the restaurant every once in a while to say hello, see how the meal was, and ask if there was anything anyone would like him to play. While the piano playing was nice, it was the experience of him coming up and talking to us that was most important. He had one of those congenial, warm personalities that remind you of a grandfather, or favorite uncle. I went with my parents for a pre-Mother's Day celebration (I got the day wrong). My parents ordered Eggs Benedict and a Chicken Crepe or some sort; while I ordered the skillet with sausage. I have very strong opinions about what a skillet should be and it is based on the first skillet I ever had. Benedicte's skillet wasn't for me, but it may be a good choice for you...if you're hungry enough (every skillet I have ever had is huge). I typically prefer skillets to be comfort food. Benedicte's skillet uses a lot of bell pepper, that gives the dish a sweeter, fresher taste that I think does not contrast well with the savory flavors of the potatoes, eggs, and other ingredients. If you like bell pepper, you will definitely like this dish better than I did. I would give the dish itself a 3, just fyi. What disappointed me most was that I forgot to tell the waiter that I wanted my eggs over easy, and he didn't ask me how I wanted my eggs. As a rule of thumb, I never want scrambled eggs and I would have likely been much more pleased with the dish had it come with the eggs fried. My Mom ordered the crepes and offered me a bite. From that one bite, I can tell you that they were fantastic. The most prominent feature was the crepe itself - very thin, which is always a critical factor in making a good crepe. The flavor was creamy, but not too rich. I like that. My Dad apparently was not a fan. He had the Eggs Benedict. I haven't asked him too much detail, but I think he just didn't like the portion size. I wasn't too impressed with the presentation either. He ordered fruit with his meal, and they were properly served in their own dish. The Eggs Benedict came out on a giant plate that made them look far too small. I've noticed that many restaurants have that same presentation problem. Overall, I have not quite decided on what the final rating will be right now, would put them at a 3.5, but I can't do that, so I will have to err to a 3 for now. read more

I work directly across the street at the BP campus so I've eaten here several times and had a few to-go orders as well. My personal opinion on the place is that it is very inviting and a great place to have a brunch outing every once in a while but overall I can't give the place more than 3 stars. The prices are pretty ridiculous for some of their food. A ham and cheese sandwich will easily put you over $10.00, if not closer to $20 for dine-in that includes a drink and tip. If they would lower their prices for the lunch crowd I would probably eat there more. The food, however, really is pretty good. I have absolutely no complaints about their cuisine at all, top notch stuff, however when I want a quick and easy lunch, avoid this place. read more

What a lovely restaurant! Service was great, there was always someone popping in to check we were happy and our glasses were full. They were friendly, offered alternatives/substitutions with no fuss, were great about allergies/food sensitivities and the food didn't take long to come out. I had the "Houston Restaurant weeks" menu, I had hummus and pita as a starter - the hummus was plentiful and delicious, could have done with more pita. My entree was the lamb shank, which came with mash and broccoli. It was all delicious!! Dessert was the chocolate cake which came with a little ice cream. Also delicious! I'd happily go back!! My boyfriend and I just moved into the neighborhood and at the suggestion of our apartment manager, we tried Cafe Benedicte for a late lunch on a weekday. Our waiter was prompt and polite, and the owners were walking around greeting customers. Great customer service. I loved the food! I had a Greek salad and a Gyro. The Greek salad was traditional and the perfect size (not too big). The Gyro was simple with grilled chicken that had lots of flavor and a delicious tzatziki sauce. My boyfriend started with the gumbo, which he enjoyed, and he is a picky gumbo eater. He had the grilled chicken Caesar salad, which had the same tasty grilled chicken. Also the perfect size. The appetizer is a great start to the meal and they were very generous with the lamb portion. I had the Mediteranean salad (half portion) and it was wonderful My wife had the ceasar chicken sandwich, and it was also great Service from Pablo was great. He was very accomodating to our party, which included our newborn baby. He always had our drinks full, was very knowledgeable regarding menu items, and overall a fantastic waiter. Based on all the rave reviews for brunch, we decided to go try this place out. The restaurant itself is quite nice. Very open and lots of windows, along with a nice little patio for the cooler months. We went for noon on Saturday and it was a nice enough crowd there, so it didn't feel like a ghost town. I was underwhelmed by the food, I guess only because we expected some exciting menu options. We got a variety of things off the brunch menu -- the French Toast looked nice (and they give you melted butter in addition to syrup, yum), the omelet looked overflowing with fresh ingredients, but the two items that we thought would be the show stealers were lacking that inspiration we were hoping for. I got the Tempura Salmon Benedicte and it was missing an ingredient. The tempura salmon cake was pretty good, but it was just that and a poached egg with a little bit of hollandaise. The flavor profile just seemed off. The Brunch Sliders were as well a little disappointing. You get 3 different sliders -- a BLT, a breakfast one with sausage/egg/cheese and a Chef's choice. The BLT was probably the favorite. What was delicious was the side of breakfast potatoes. Yummy cubes of potato with garlic and (maybe) a truffle oil. A good dependable breakfast/brunch place, but nothing on the menu that I would seek out. read more

Four stars for the impeccable service and the delicious truffle fries. First of all, thank you, staff at Cafe Benedicte for making my friend's birthday such a memorable one. My friends and I have never heard of this place but we decided to give it a try and host a friend's birthday dinner there. The ambiance and decor of the entire place was perfect for an intimate birthday dinner with friends. We had a table for 8 reserved and we were in a private area so the noise level was perfect. Food: I ordered the truffle fries, the lobster bisque, and the mussels with white wine and garlic. The truffle fries were thickly cut fries and were made fresh to order. The aroma of truffles and garlic was enough to make me drool. The fries had a light, crispy skin and a fluffy inside. Fries were perfectly seasoned. They were also served with a garlic aioli that took the fries to a whole other level. Compared to the fries, my other dishes were just average. The lobster bisque tasted a little off, and tasted mostly of white wine- very little lobster flavor. The mussels were pretty good, despite being very small mussels- but they were not the best I have had. Perhaps a tad less white wine, and maybe more butter and garlic. This place WINS on service. The manager himself was our waiter and we never wanted for anything. Drinks were always refilled, plates were always cleared up, and they treated the birthday girl like a princess. The pianist even played her favorite song and also played/sang happy birthday, along with the rest of the staff. Thanks again, Cafe Benedicte for an awesome experience! We started breakfast with a complimentary trio of orange marmalade, strawberry jam, and butter with bread. It was a nice touch to this restaurant. The staff were very welcoming and really friendly. The 'feel' of this restaurant was great too. They have a patio, but there is no shade. The windows are covered in the landscape of Italy (?) and it added to the ambiance of the restaurant. We were probably 1 of 5 tables while we were there so it wasn't busy at all. Despite not being busy, it did take them almost 30 minutes to bring out our food. Good thing the bread held us over as we waited. Since I think breakfast is one of the fastest meals to cook, the speed in which (or lack there of) that it took for us to receive our entrees was less than ideal. I had their "Their Skillet" entree from their menu with chorizo. It was a good meal but I equate the chorizo as a seasoning that which you can buy at the grocery store that Taco Bell sells. The bright orange oil on the plate, and there was a lot, was what sealed the deal in my thought about this. Again, I don't know if I am correct but I was hoping for a more authentic chorizo dish. Other than the chorizo, the dish had potatoes, spinach, onion (which were cooked perfectly), mushrooms, and cheese. I passed on the "mixed peppers" that normally accompany this dish. All entrees came with a side of your choice, either potatoes, fruit, and another option I am forgetting. I would come back to this restaurant but I don't think I would order this again.My bf had the "All American" dish. It looked great and he definitely liked it. It came with two pancakes, two eggs, two sausages, and he chose the potatoes as his side. All entrees were greater than $10. read more

Some friends and I had a lovely dinner here on Saturday night. We arrived at 6pm and, although we had made reservations, there was plenty of seating and we would not have had to wait at all. The service was polite and prompt. The food was delicious. I ordered the ATM sandwich and sweet potato fries. The fries were some of the best that I have had...I may be back just for those:) The main thing that I liked about Cafe Benedicte was the atmosphere. It was a perfect blend of classy and casual. You could eat here for a quick bite to eat or get dressed up and have a nice date here. The prices are also flexible, allowing you to spend however little or much you would like to. This is an upscale place with a very reasonable price. We started with the seared scallops appetizer which were tasty but a bit pricey. The Mediterranean trio was great. Got the lamb shanks with lentil soup and the African tabooli salad. The salad was humongous but well seasoned. They did not skimp on the lamb shanks and it was very tender. It came with a yogurt dip and the soup was not bad. We skipped dessert because we were so full. Our water was never empty and when we asked to see the event room, they were very accommodating. A note on renting the private rooms. We found out there is a $100-150 deposit to hold the room which goes towards your bill. However, you have to spend $450 minimum in the room the night of your event. We were reserving it for the rehearsal dinner and I will update my review when that happens. read more
