Your few steps from the beach and the pier so on a nice day it doesn't get much better especially if you're stopping in for a morning bite to eat while enjoying your coffee and company. Hermosa Beach is one of my absolute favourite areas around LA even though I've only recently started spending time there. Last weekend we took my in-laws to see the water and check out the area when they were visiting and when it came time for lunch Cafe Bonaparte was the place they chose. This cafe has a very beach style vibe and a menu that seems perfect for breakfast and lunch if you are in the mood for salads, baked goods, and sandwiches so that's exactly what we ordered. I kept it simple and ordered the Chicken Panini which has Marinated Chicken Breast, Melted Provolone Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Brown Mustard, and Mayo. I also got a bag of chips on the side but those were just lays so let's keep that out of the review. The food came out pretty quickly (that tends to happen with sandwiches and salads) and it was a perfectly fine panini. Even though the food was good, it didn't have any qualities that stood out, but it was solid and that's really all I can think of saying. Overall, Cafe Bonaparte is a solid little spot for sandwiches and salads. The service here was solid, the place itself has a nice environment, and it's location right next to the beach will have be back in the area many times, and maybe, just maybe, I'll have to check out the large baked good selection in the front. read more

I was very disappointed with my experience here. On July 7, shortly after 2:00 PM, I politely asked the employee at the register if they had any sugar-free desserts because I am diabetic. Instead of answering professionally, he laughed and sarcastically said, "Yeah, yeah... this is a café, of course everything is sugar-free." His response was disrespectful and made me feel embarrassed. I then explained that I have diabetes and that was the reason for my question. This is a café, and nowadays many cafés offer options such as sugar-free, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary choices. I honestly don't understand why asking about a sugar-free option was so funny to your employee. There was absolutely nothing unreasonable about my question. Customers deserve to be treated with respect, especially when asking questions related to a medical condition. A little kindness and professionalism would have made a big difference. I hope the management addresses this issue so that no one else is made to feel the way I did. read more

Immediately when I walked in it felt like I was walking into a furnace, it was already a hot sunny day but it felt like the heat was cranked up or the AC was broken. I saw their pastries and wanted to try one of them but when I saw the amount of flies in the glass compartment where the food is held, I walked out immediately. Unfortunately they closed the Cafe Bonaparte in Redondo Beach, which was closer to home. Felt like catching breakfast, so I came to this location. It's right off of Pier Avenue, on the way to the pier. You order and pay inside. You're given a number on your receipt, so before food and drinks are delivered to your table, staff call out your number. Staff are friendly and efficiently ring you up at the counter. I sat outdoors in their patio. There are mostly small round tables for two, so it's not really good for large groups, unless you want to move tables around and hog up all the outdoor space. There's also free entertainment, whether you want it or not. When I was here, it was a singer/acoustic guitar player. Fortunately, not bad or annoying. I ordered my usual, oak milk latte and avocado toast, which comes with a side salad. Get ready, it's a lot of hard boiled eggs strategically placed on a slice of toast. Café Bonaparte is this great café located just a few steps away from the Hermosa Beach pier. What you will find here is a great business offering a nice selection of bakery items, lattes, interesting meals, and a little bit of other stuff. The food here is always prepared very well, and it's a fun place to take a break during your day and enjoy a drink or a meal. In terms of seating, Café Bonaparte has a great outdoor patio. There's a number of tables, and it's really a great place to sit back and enjoy the air of Hermosa Beach. The one thing I will say, is that every now and then, particularly on the weekends, you're gonna get some musician busking right next to this patio. If they're a good musician and a good singer, this isn't too bad. But, on the other hand, sometimes there's some busters in the area that just are not very enjoyable to listen to. This can really kill the experience. They also have a few tables for interior seating if that's your choice. Overall, this is a really great place in Hermosa Beach to grab a latte, maybe a bakery item, or a small meal. I ordered at the register and they brought my order to the table. They have a single coed restroom and small patio which is right under Tower 12. Visited last Sunday for the Tree Lightning Ceremony. Pastries looked delicious and decided to get a few items. Among these was a chocolate croissant, hot mexican cocoa and an iced coffee. The iced coffee was the most disgusting of its kind I have ever had. The croissant was probably the best item. However for a coffee shop, one would expect the obvious beverages to stand out. Not a chance I'd visit again with so many contenders in the near vicinity. Service was also very slow. They use a number system on your receipt and come out and tender items calling out numbers and walking atound premises. They could upgade and make this process more efficient. read more

Hello! I just wanted to put a warning out there that the so called "sweet" smoothie is anything but that. I'm not sure if it was intended to taste immensely bitter and undrinkable, but that was the smoothie I was served. It honestly tasted as if they had just ground up a load of grapefruit peels and called it a day. Multiple ingredients mentioned, they were all superseded by a bitter tartness. Now, If you're thinking that I may be biased because maybe I just don't like grapefruit, I assure you, no taste testing was run in the process of making this smoothie, because even grapefruit lovers such as I could not get it down. Super disappointing, and I don't see any future wherein I will be giving this establishment any more of my time or money. read more

I really wanted to love this place so it could be my go-to cafe when I'm at the beach. Met up with a couple of friends to have breakfast here. When I read the reviews prior I decided to still give it a try. Customer service wasn't as bad as other reviews stated. The girl who helped us was very nice. When we were deciding what to choose from, we saw a fly inside the glass with the pastries!! I told the girl in the front and she didn't seem surprised she just tried to get it out but did they? No. And they even kept selling those pastries to the people after us. I can't blame the workers tho, I'm sure they bring it up to the managers attention.. We ended up getting avocado toast and chai tea lattes, they were okay. Will not be coming back although their outside seating is just great to have a coffee with a friend! read more

I was REALLY impressed with the food here! Having our sandwiches on the croissants was a game changer. They were super big and they were just so soft and airy! Definitely one of the best croissants I've eaten, but then add all the delicious meat and toppings to make it into an sandwich and it was just heaven. Super filling but super delicious. I also appreciated how much meat they loaded into the sandwich, it was filling and I felt like I got my money's worth. While I really loved the vinaigrette dressing on my side salad, mom wasn't a fan of it so just be mindful of how much dressing you use. But I would definitely eat here again and just get another sandwich on one of their amazing croissants! read more

Came in with my family, toddlers and all and it was such a nice experience. You order your food at the counter and find a table to sit at (they have in door and outdoor) then food is taken to you. We sat outside because who doesn't like an ocean view while they eat?! Valeria helped us out and she was very sweet and helpful. Decided to try this place and order a matcha latte and ice coffee. The matcha latte was literally just milk and green food coloring, no taste of matcha and felt watered down. This cafe is fairly small and is located in that busy Hermosa beach pier area where all those bars and restaurants are. I came to meet up with a friend in the morning and we sat at one of the tables outside. I got an iced matcha with oat milk and it was one of the worst ones I've ever had. It tasted bland, super watery and came out lukewarm. Yuck! I would not get this again. They have a wide variety of pastries on display. My daughter enjoyed her chocolate croissant. I also got a yogurt and granola bowl with strawberries which was HUGE and tasted okay, nothing special. Service was pretty terrible... our server didn't smile or say anything when bringing out our food. She actually looked pretty upset like she was having a bad day. I was working in the area and wanted something yummy for breakfast so I stopped here because the menu looked yummy. The girl at the register was lovely and helpful and suggested a breakfast sandwich so I chose the bacon and egg on a croissant. I also ordered and ice coffee and a strawberry cheese croissant and ham and cheese croissant to go. I ate the sandwich inside which unfortunately had an unusual amount of flys which I'm guessing was due to being on the pier. When I was served my sandwich I immediately noticed the bacon was crumbled and on the plate not in my sandwich. I took a bite and the bacon was burnt so it had hard burnt bacon taste. I've never in my life have had a breakfast sandwich with crumbled bacon. Why crumble it? Why not just leave it in strips? The croissant tasted stale and my iced coffee tasted like water. The croissants. Brought home to my kids were as disappointing. Put it this way...I was jealous of my husband who told me he had instant oatmeal at home. Went here for lunch with a few friends. Service was fantastic - I ordered a yogurt parfait, and it was inedible. I asked the staff if it was yogurt, it didn't look or taste like yogurt. I asked if it was Greek yogurt, it was bitter and had a strange taste and it was firm. They assured me it was yogurt and it was new. My two friends both tried it and agree it was not yogurt. Couldn't figure out what it was until I was telling another friend about it, and they said maybe Cream Fraiche! Once they said that I was like yup, that is exactly what it was! You walk up to the counter and order your food and drinks. There are tables and umbrellas outside for seating. I ordered a regular large latte with oat milk and an avocado toast. In my opinion, it's kind of hard to mess up an avocado toast. I never had a bad avocado toast up until this point. This avocado toast lacked flavor. It was the worst avocado toast I've ever had. It needed more seasoning all around. We also got the flourless chocolate cake and that was not bad. It was cold but moist inside and had good chocolate flavor. The texture and taste were on point. Overall ratings: Location: 5/5 Food: 3/5 Service: 4/5 If you are on the pier and want to eat around there, and be outside with coffee and food, I would recommend this place. This is a little Cafe located right around the Hermosa Beach Pier. We've been wanting to try a little coffee shop & this spot certainly did not disappoint! Ambiance: The shop itself is small with a limited amount of indoor & outdoor seating. Due to its location, the tables will most likely be full, but people will come & go if you are patient. The employees are quick to service the tables when they opened up, so that was nice to see. Service: The employees were super nice. They promptly cleaned the tables as customers left. They use a number system, so you must pay attention when your number is called. If you choose to dine-in, they offer your beverage & food on real dishes & cups which I personally appreciate as it is better for the environment. Food: They had a large selection of pastries, sandwiches & desserts...much like a patisserie would. We ordered a Cafe Latte, a drip coffee & a samosa. The Latte was missing the milk foam, which we felt was odd, but it tasted right. The drip coffee was nothing special, but the samosa was very nice! It was potato with bell peppers & onions inside! This pastry was delightful & when paired with the mint sauce, the combo was perfection! We did not try any of the other pastries, but they all appeared top quality, flaky & buttery! The service was quick. Their restroom uses a key (if you need to go). We would certainly go back to try their pastries...maybe jot the Cafe Latte though. read more

Came to the cafe on 7/1/2025, at 6pm with friends, my order was taken by a young female worker with long brown hair and eyeliner. When taking our order, she seemed unfriendly and annoyed; since none of the prices are displayed, I have inquired about the price of the quiche and then of a matcha. Since both were $10 each, I have double checked, asking "this the price for 1 piece/ 1 drink? wow" to which the worker has responded "well, its a beachside cafe, what did you expect". In 15 minutes, I decided to purchase a chocolate croissant and asked "Can I place another order" to get the worker's attention, to which I was met with a little giggle. Personally, I have assumed that this condescending attitude was provoked by me asking about the prices and then changing my mind regarding the order. Regardless, upon exiting, my friends and I have all felt unwelcome and like a burden to the workers. P.S. The drinks and foods were nothing special. Very very sad... I was visiting this cafe every month with my boyfriend and really liked this tradition. I loved food and deserts, but what happened today made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I ordered scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, but instead I got basically an omelet with COOKED salmon. There is no way you can boil or fry smoked salmon which is always served raw. In any restaurant I went in my life and I've had it a lot since I'm a huge fan of smoked salmon. When the owner came out, he was mad with my complaint and I felt horrible. It felt very passive aggressive. He did not offer to change the dish, he did not give any explanation on why "smoked salmon" is fully cooked... he just returned money for the dish. This situation could have been resolved in a nice way and I would be able to continue being a returning customer, but this feeling is not erasable. Very very sad. read more

Staff was friendly and helpful in the midst of our unfortunate experience. we got 5 different pastries (all sweet) and NONE of them tasted sweet at all. It was so off. Thankfully the staff was nice in letting us exchange 1 of them for something else to remedy our dissatisfaction. The pastry we got also tasted like it wasn't baked with any sugar. Again such an odd experience that left us bummed out but again grateful the staff actually tried to help. We won't come back. read more
