I've been here only twice since the name change from The New York Deli north. The only reason I came to Cafe Catron this second time is because one of my friends likes it. The three star review is based on restaurants in Santa Fe. Santa Fe seems to still be suffering from the post covid scamdemic event more than most places due the majority being very liberal and many still seem to be afraid. Compared to many other places outside of Santa Fe, I'd likely give it 2 stars. I give them a 1 star for value. The food portions are relatively small and the prices are relatively high even with the post covid hyper inflation. I didn't bring my camera phone into the deli or I would have posted an image of my meal. Most of the images posted here are from Cafe Catron and don't fairly represent what you actually get or what I actually got. The food is average quality and gets an a-ok 3 star. Service gets a three star. The servers are nice but both times we ate here, they didn't get my order right. I even told my server the problem I had the last time I ate there and still they messed up my order. I don't eat dairy. If you order straight off the menu and don't make any modifications, you'll likely be fine. If I do ever go back it's only because one of my friends still likes it. Honestly, I'm going out to eat much less than I used to because prices have gotten so high and quality has gone down. read more

I eat here pretty much every time I am in Santa Fe. Try the lox on bagel. Fantastic. It was previously called Bagel Mania but I guess a franchise label limited their offering and drained earnings! Great for bagels, coffee, breakfast offerings and lunch. The Eggs Benedict (more than 8 types) are divine. I like the one called florentine benedict with spinach and canadian bacon. Yummy. Great Pancakes. The sandwiches are excellent. Omelettes are perfect. People gripe about the service on Yelp but I have never had any problems. Take out works as well. The food was amazing! I had the Eggs Yucatan, I wish I had taken a picture but I was too eager to start eating. Used to be reliable and good only issue was closed at 3:00... WOW! Those were the days... I think the criteria for serving a Cesar Salad is having seen one somewhere before putting it on the menu. Nowhere in history has it had equal parts square 1"x1" croutons, square cut 1"x1" Romane lettuce with some shredded white cheese served undressed. When we requested dressing a small cup of a thick gloppy brownish stuff came to the table. I got up and walked to the counter and asked for Cesar dressing and was told that was it! I said it wasn't, the waiter said it was the only one... My eggs Florentine was disappointing asked for toasted bagel, but it wasn't! Since it was a bagel place you would think that was a non issue. Hollandaise sauce was weird a salmon color and tasteless- not even good canned quality! I can't even say if the bagel was any good... We had to get to a Doctor appointment so we ate it, paid + left! Very good - seemed like lots of locals and the staff was very good. Only missed the 5th star because the pastrami was tough and a NY deli needs a great pastrami. They were super friendly and accommodating of our 2 year old. We accidentally left our credit card and they ran after and gave it to us in the parking lot. read more

Wow, up in Santa Fe from Las Cruces. Not really in the mood for NM food and found a great place called "New York Deli".... Had a cup of Matzo Ball soup to start. Flavor was a bit dull, but being that I haven't had it in a while, it was good. Ordered the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs, WOW! The best I've ever had! It was amazing! To go along with it, had an Onion Bialy with a Nova Spread, it was really good! Service and atmosphere was really good! Sat on the patio, weather was great. The one and only complaint I have was that cars where parked in handicap parking without any placards or plates. I know it's hard to keep an eye out but mgt. should check every once in a while. We came here based on a friends recommendation. It seemed expensive and lacking much taste for the price. Chicken matzo ball soup tasted the best. The Grand Central sandwich was ok. But this time of year to have hothouse, unripe, tomatoes is inexcusable. The potato salad was not to my taste at all. Since Bert's Burger Bowl was closed we took a chance. For breakfast, this place had all you need. Nice wait staff, clean and the food was good quality. My husband had the bagel as his toast item. It wasn't his favorite. Since they toasted it, might have been day old (not as fresh as you'd hope for a place that sells fresh bagels). The staff were cordial and welcoming but didn't chat friendly at all even though it was a slower time in the morning. We went three time in the five mornings that we were there. I was in Santa Fe for business and one of my colleagues there mentioned that the New York Deli had fantastic matzo ball soup- "The kind with vegetables you can see in it," she said. She's originally from Chicago so I trust her. I walked over for lunch on my last day. My throat was feeling scratchy. I sat down at the counter and noticed that a man in fancy chef's whites was sitting across from me. You know a place is good when chefs from other restaurants eat there on their lunch break. The matzo ball soup arrived. My goodness... I haven't had matzo ball soup that good since the Edison Cafe closed (RIP). Matzo balls like angel's wings. Rich broth. And yes, signs that vegetables had indeed made contact. I'm a New Yorker. I'm particular about my Jewish deli food. My wife and I visit the NEW YORK DELI every time we're driving through Santa Fe, and it's always a treat! Whether we get the sandwiches, soups, or salads, we always enjoy a great meal. Usually I order the Rachel (pastrami Reuben), but today I ordered the Gyro, and my wife ordered her all-time favorite, the Chicken with Matzo Ball Soup. As usual, everything was absolutely delicious and mouth-watering! Those shoestring potato fries are amazing! Service was super quick and efficient - thanks to our wonderful server Mayra. I love this place. Friendly staff, outdoor seating, humongous variety on the menu, and quality food. What's not to like? My favorites are the sampler salad, which is enormous and tasty, and the Belgian waffle. Man, is it good! They seem to add a little extra vanilla or something to the batter, which makes it very yummy. I also like the sourdough bread you get with the salad (optional). Love that stuff. I've had one of the eggs benedict dishes here (they have about 8 varieties), I think it was the one with chorizo, and sadly, it wasn't that great. During covid: very safe feeling. The restaurant does everything they should to make it evident that restaurants can be and should be open. Felt sagger there at grocery store. Great parking, easy access from a major street, some shaded parking, convenient from downtown. Host/server greets you promptly when you arrive. Having to wait is unusual but if you have to, there's a comfy couch with current reading material. There are lots of baked goods on display and for sale if you're just after some bagels, cookies or whatever. There's also counter seating if you prefer. The place is clean and neat and with interesting graphics on the walls, large windows overlooking outside seating and lots of sky. Table seating either indoors or out depending upon the season is good with most tables seating four and two or three seating more. Your drink order is usually taken when you are seated and given a menu for each diner. The menu has a great variety of breakfast, brunch and lunch items, many featuring traditional deli presentations such as bagels, cream cheese and lox. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, etc. are offered for breakfast all the time with an excellent selection of well prepared sandwiches and salads. Coffee, tea or juice are the primary drinks besides water. Specialty coffee drinks are also available. After your order is placed, delivery of your meal is very fast. Typically less than five minutes depending on how complex you made it. I've eaten here for years and can't find fault with their service. The waiters and waitresses are friendly, knowledgeable and on the ball. As delis go, this place is amazing with quality food covering a broad range of styles. Every bit of it tasty, fresh and well prepared. They have soup...chicken/Matzo ball soup is everyday and during the warm months they have the best Gazpacho you've ever tasted,..or I've ever tasted. It's a wonderful departure from Santa Fe's heavier chili based stews. It's always very easy to overdo lunch here as the portions are large and everything I've ever tried is very tasty and well presented. The five star rating is heart felt. This is Santa Fe's only real Deli and they have all the bases covered, from good off street parking to excellent desserts with top notch service and in between, superior food of all sorts. My partner and I usually go for breakfast/brunch/lunch on Saturdays. It's a lovely way we usually spend our quality time since the weeks are usually so busy. We were starving this morning and were stoked to come here thinking it was still New York Deli. We have been going to this spot for 18 years, but usually go to the Southside location. This new version of the business kept the New York Deli menu, but increased prices and took off nearly every vegetarian item on the menu (Tofu Reuben, Tofu Scramble, Portabello sandwich, tofu salad, Veggie burger, etc). I had to get a bunch of sides of stuff and it was super expensive. I got three small slices of avocado for $3.25! A total joke. My partner, disappointed in the lack of options, lost his appetite and just ordered toast and a fruit cup. Their fruit cup is now tiny and more expensive and he got a tiny piece of bread with his toast order. The beans were hard and salty. They took off the hash browns and added some boring breakfast potatoes, half of which were overcooked. It took 15 minutes to get our order taken, and 20 minutes to get our check dealt with. Luckily my partner speaks Spanish because it was also hard to communicate with the servers. While there, the table next to us were complaining about the new changes as well. The new decor is boring and sterile, no music, just not a good experience in any sort of way. We were there at lunch time on a Saturday and the place was completely dead. It's no wonder why. Lunch time on a Saturday during Wine and Chili Fiesta, Aspen season, excellent Fall weather should be popping. We left 40- some odd dollars poorer, not full, not satisfied, and totally bummed out. Great little deli. A friend who lives here recommended it. We went for breakfast and really enjoyed what we had. My sister had steak and eggs. My dad had Huevos Rancheros. I had a Baja Omelette. They had close to a dozen different omelette options and the one I had was fantastic although spicy. They also served some toast with butter and jelly. The coffee was really great and was bottemless. They also had espresso drinks like latte and cappuccino. The service was top notch. Our waitress could not have been sweeter. And they were quick to get us what we need. We were obviously not the only ones that really enjoyed New York Deli. The place was packed. This was my first time trying a Benedict Dish and I have to say I am definitely glad that I came here to get it. It's a very family-friendly restaurant for sure. I wish they had some alcohol to spice things up on Sunday but no biggy. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It gets pretty packed and they have their own parking lot. They even have a patio if the sun is out and you feel like sitting outside. I ordered the Salmon Benedict because of a recommendation from my fellow yelpers. It came with hash browns and when I sunk my fork into the meal, I knew right there that I had made the right decision. The hollandaise sauce was amazing, salmon was nice and fresh. I ordered pastrami by the pound, a half a loaf of rye bread... We don't sell rye bread by the loaf? WHAT??????? I've bought it there before. It's a deli. That's what they sell at the takeout. Things needed to make sandwiches. I asked them to check. They came back with a price of $14 for the loaf of bread. I understand that the times are different. But the item is a core item. Plan properly. Don't gouge. I really only wanted the half loaf anyway. I suppose that would be $10? I walked out. No argument. Not comments. I wasn't going to argue. I have been on a search for the perfect Ruben sandwich. Where better to start than a so called New York Deli. Visions of piles of corned beef and sauerkraut. Very disappointed with what was served here . Tasteless sauerkraut, flat tasting corned beef. Small portion... I am not sure whats going on there but i have made NY Deli a spot to eat breakfast on Sundays, My family and i recently went in to wait 1 hour and 10 minutes for our order to arrive watching all of the tables around us who arrived 30 to 40 minutes past us get there food and eat??!! I dont know if this establishment has new management or staff but what a DUD!! I have been coming to this location for 17 years in its many incarnations (Bagelmania, New York Deli). It was a staple of consistency & quality service. That is no more. Went with my vegetarian partner & found that all 5 vegan & vegetarian options have been removed from the menu. Despite having all the ingredients to make some excellent vegetarian meals scattered around there menu ( they have a Turkey avocado sandwich but can't make avocado toast) all we could get was a fruit cup (tiny at $4.50), toast, & a collection of side dishes that all added up to an expensive, unsatisfactory meal. They taken all the charm & character from the space as well & replaced it with a sterile, white washed environment befitting a strip mall in California (except they would have vegan & veggie options there). While there, we witnessed other local regular folks shocked at the stripping down of what had for years been a busy Santa Fe institution. It was, not surprisingly, very quiet for a Saturday lunch time. Our bill for a tiny fruit cup, 2 sets of toast, a side of potatoes (the hash browns are gone too) a side of green Chile & 2 drinks was $32 before tip! We just moved to town and my NY husband was craving a bagel, so we headed to NY Deli for Sunday brunch and a bagel fix. The place definitely has a good diner vibe and the service was very good. We had an omelette and a smoked salmon platter and both were very tasty. The omelette featured fresh spinach (not frozen), mushrooms and cheddar. It was a bit heavy-handed on the cheddar, but now that I know, I can request light cheese. The smoked salmon platter was good, but there were no capers on the plate and that was a shame. Again, next time I can ask. We went back a second time and it just didn't seem to be as good as it was the first time. Worst pancakes ever. I ordered the Pinon pancakes and they arrived with packaged butter. They tasted horrible and doughy. They appeared to be raw. Didn't even eat them. My hub ordered pancakes and coffee and he said both were horrible. He said his coffee was the worse be had during or New Mexico vacation. We didn't eat our food and the staff didn't charge us either.
