Ended up here bcs the Taqueria we were told to check out was closed and we aren't from the area. The bartender was helpful explaining how things worked and we took our glass/number to a table and sat down. Chips were brought out and drinks were ordered. Then it was a little bit of a wait for someone to stop by to take our food order. We ordered queso (which they were out of at 1pm), so we got a small guacamole, a wet burrito with shredded pork and enchiladas with carnitas. I ordered the half/half beans with the enchiladas and enjoyed mixing them and eating them with chips. The rice was hard and flavorless. The wet burrito and enchiladas were good. The green salsa is delicious and HOT - and this is coming from someone that enjoys habenero, jalapeños, and all types of spicy goodness. Don't get me wrong, it had excellent flavor, which a lot of the "hot to be hot" items don't, but most people would not enjoy it. I kept eating it bcs of the flavor and if you mix it with the guacamole that makes the guac taste a lot better. I think they need to work on their wait staff system. It is clear that everyone can/does check on whoever and do whatever, which is great when this actually happens. In this situation there did not seem to be lot of ambition to check on people and make this work properly. read more

Great find. We needed a quick toddler-friendly lunch, and Cafe Corazon nailed it. We were seated right away with a high-chair, crayons, and coloring paper/kids menu. Unasked, they brought water in a plastic cup with lid and straw. Best of all, service was fast, allowing us to get in and out in about 45 minutes. They serve brunch on Sunday afternoon but will provide a regular menu if asked (only seafood and fajitas were not available). Thank goodness, because I wasn't in the mood for eggs, and the regular menu abounded with tantalizing choices. I settled on the "Best Burrito" which contained pibil pork, avocado, beans, cheese, and a few different sauces. Absolutely delicious! Plus, my daughter's chicken enchilada was pretty tasty too. As much as I liked the burrito, i might almost say that the $3 guacamole with chips and salsa was the best item that we ordered. Redemption came in the form of brunch! I heard awesome reviews about their brunch and people were not lying. The variety of food and portion sizes are night and day from the regular menu. I had the torta and the pickled onion combined with the bacon and pork really set this apart. Imagine two fried eggs on top of this deliciousness -- oozing egg yolk over the other tasty ingredients! I chose the black beans and rice with my torta. The side was okay but they are probably trying to make this vegetarian which explains the lack of huge flavor...yes I know vegetarians everywhere will be mad. However, lard is what makes beans incredible and stock makes rice even better. The service was much better this time around. Maybe they read the reviews and amped up their game?? We had heard of the one in Riverrun, but never went. I got the burrito suizo and it was absolutely delicious. I also got some fruity beverage that was Devine, but I can't remember exactly what I got. As someone who has a very high bar for Mexican food, I feel the need to clarify that I really like Corazón but that it is most definitely "hipster Mexican." They have specials every night of the week and every special margarita I have tried here has been great. The restaurant itself can be on the loud side of things, so not a place to go when you need to listen and intently to your dinner companion. However, they have a great menu, awesome guacamole and fun drinks. If the noise is a problem for you there is always the patio. Unlike most Mexican places there are great options for vegans and vegetarians. I am partial to the tostada plate, the empanadas and the best burrito. If you save room for dessert the tres leches cake will NOT disappoint. Most of their items can be brunchified with the addition of an egg on top, and they also have a lot of fun brunch drinks and foods. Overall Corazón is a solid choice. We have had spotty service at times and occasionally the rice is under cooked, but that does not stop us from coming back! read more

We got the burritos delivered and they were not properly wrapped. We started eating and the burritos were super dry. There was no option to choose no beans in the burrito and the person I was eating them with was going through the burrito picking out whatever beans they could. The only saving grace of our dinner was the chips and queso. The queso was very good. Salsa that came with tasted fresh. Overall, we were kind of disappointed but I will be trying the food again in hopes this isn't an everytime situation. read more

Wow different experience than last two times. Came for taco Tuesday around 1. Not crowded but stood at host stand a few minutes. Finally bartender saw me looking, well not happy and he seated me. Waited another 10 min till waiter took my order. Then 14 min to get my tacos. I was hangry at that point and ate everything but sadly the tacos didn't wow me. We ordered take-out during the Stay at Home order time and our experience couldn't have been better! The food was ready for us when we arrived and the staff was very friendly. Best part- we ordered house margaritas to-go and they placed masking tape on top and labeled them "soup". "Don't drink the soup in the car," they jokingly warned. Those drinks are S.T.R.O.N.G. We're now big fans. We like how we had to add our own ice so it wouldn't be watery by the time we drank them at home. We ordered the Taco Truck Plate (Pork Pibil, Soy Chorizo, Shrimp) and the Best Burrito. The pork pibil taco was my favorite! It was flavorful and juicy. I was also a fan of the soy chorizo taco, with it's appealing texture and spice. Shrimp was pretty good as well and all the tacos were overflowing with the amount of food! The rice and beans were standard and filling. The Best Burrito was large and in charge. It was full of flavor and delicious. The sauces on top hit the spot. Came to this establishment for my birthday this past January 2020! I called one week ahead to make a reservation for about 25 people on the Friday night. The employee on the phone told me that she will have the manager call me back to confirm if they can do it. The manager called me back within a day or two and stated that they would be able to host me, and I could call the day before just to confirm my final guest count. Just from this exchange, I really appreciate the quick response and accommodation of my large group. On the day of the party, when we walked in, they seated us when a large number of us had arrived. This restaurant is small, so I understood why the manager wanted to make sure we would be coming because it was really busy on a Friday night. The waitress took each of our drink orders and food orders. They placed salty, warm tortilla chips with salsa on the table. I ordered three large guacamoles for us to share, and this was fresh as well! The food took some time to come out, but I completely understand that with a large group! The two dishes that stick out to me the most are: 1) Jicama Shrimp Tacos - Comes with 2 tacos, rice and beans. Shrimp is not overcooked or rubbery. 2) Naked Wet Burrito - a burrito without the tortilla, served in a small casserole dish. Super good! Has all the ingredients of a burrito and sauce throughout! This dish is filled with flavor and freshness. The waitress was very attentive to my large group and filled the chip bowl with fresh, warm chips when it was low. My husband and I recently tried this place for our date night. We enjoyed the Thai basil and jalapeño margaritas. They have a nice selection of margs and they do not taste like fake lime juice like a lot of places. It tastes natural. We enjoyed the chips and guac. The salsa had good flavor but the texture was a bit much for me. It had the consistency of ragú sauce. Guac was flavorful. If you like it really creamy, theirs might not be for you, as it was very thick/chunky. Great corn tortillas and flavoring in our main meals, pork tacos and enchiladas. Went here a little while back with a fairly large group. I felt like we were very patient in the hour it took to get us all a table outside. Our server was polite but clearly overwhelmed. Pros: Chips and salsa was free - I can't stand when restaurants cheap out on this. I'm concerned all of the Cafe Corazon restaurants don't offer free chips and salsa, which is strange and makes no sense. I ordered the taco truck platter: i ordered the meat that is made with red wine, white wine and then just a carne asada. I was not a fine of the wine meats, they were a little overwhelming, but the carne was great. I'm curious to go back and try other options. read more

Just like it's sister location in Riverwest, the Bay View Cafe Corazon always delivers a great selection of tasty Mexican dishes! One of the best things about the Bay View Cafe Corazon is that they will open up the windows when the weather is beautiful out. This allows a really nice breeze to sweep through the entire restaurant, plus it makes for great people watching on KK. The burritos are absolutely fantastic, so I would definitely give those a try on your next visit. But be warned they are extremely filling. :) read more

The staff was friendly and conversant and really went out of their way to interact and engage and encourage all to have a good time. This is one our favorite spots in Milwaukee. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. They are doing all the right things to address public safety concerns around COVID-19. I was so conflicted on rating Cafe Corazon I almost skipped the review. Seriously, I'm that torn. My husbands burrito was a 5/5; best I've had in a long while. Flavorful, the meat was super tender, and it was HUGE... awesome value for the price. I, on the other hand, got the tilapia tacos and they were more like a 2/5. They had basically no flavor at all, and were a small portion for the price. I make better tilapia tacos on a weekly basis with about 15 minutes total between prep and cook time. With how good my husbands entree was I'm willing to try again but I am SERIOUSLY disappointed based on what the Yelp reviews lead me to expect. read more

At lunch, I decided to try this place again great food. I had a lunch burrito (a little smaller than the dinner burrito) it had pulled beef and black beans. I do have to say the black beans were some of the best I have ever eaten. They were perfectly done with a little crunch. Great addition to Bay View. I love what they did with the space. It's much larger than the original Cafe Corazon. That's good because the original is pretty tiny. They maintained the same fun, funky vibe. The menu is not your typical Mexican fare they really do try to switch it up a bit. They offer several vegans items so there's something for every customer. I got the tostadas. They even included rice on them. As I was eating my first tostada, I remembered why I usually don't order them. They are impossible to eat without making a mess. But they were very good and I apologize to anyone who had to see my tostadas flying all over my table! Service was very friendly and attentive. Good little place with a laid back atmosphere. Service is fast and friendly, was here during lunch hours. It's nice that they offer brunch options all day too. Started with chips, salsa, and guac. Guacamole was a standard creamy texture, it didn't seem to have any heat but was good. I prefer a little bit of a chunkier guac but still worth the order. The red salsa was overloaded with cumin and also didn't have any spice. I did manage to find the spice in the green salsa which was very flavorful and my favorite of the trio. I went with the enchiladas 1 chicken with green sauce and 1 steak with red sauce. They came with rice and beans. You get a choice of refried pintos or black beans. The chicken was a bit dry and I would have liked a little more sauce. The steak was tender and the red sauce had a bit more flavor in my opinion. The rice was a little undercooked and the beans tasted like they came from a can. I will return but will more than likely stay away from the sides and order A la carte. read more

Service has always been great at Cafe Corazon. The first time I came here they put the wrong meat in my enchiladas (it must have been someone else's dinner), but they remade it for me right away. The enchiladas were really average, they seemed to lack spices and cheese. The second time time I ate here I ordered the wet burrito and it lacked meat. Overall both experiences were pretty mediocre. But I could simply not look past the attitude of the server my friends an I had while visiting Cafe Corazon. Firstly, we were greeted by a lovely hostess who seated us quickly and efficiently. Updating my review because this location has become a brunch favorite whether it's dine-in or to go! I'm really glad my SO kept forcing me to try this place over and over again until I changed my mind! The 3 taco dinner is amazing and you can get chorizo, steak and carnitas all in one!!! We also love the Chorizo breakfast burrito. It can come wet. The wet sauce is pretty good (red or green), but I prefer green on the side! The staff is so friendly, probably some of the nicest servers in the industry? Please keep that up! As an ex-service, people do notice these things and it really makes a difference! The food is always fresh and tasty! My ONLY comment is I do NOT like the salsa... no matter how many times I've tried it, it doesn't taste homemade. HOWEVER, everyone else that I have brought here doesn't seem to mind so it's just me. The green salsa is SPICY good. Almost too spicy. My first time here and i was not impressed. The place sits in a nice spot and its well decorated, gives you a comfortable feel. Wait staff is polite and helpful. However the food is not what I expected. I ordered a wet burrito with pibil. It was huge and very presentable but the taste was not there for me. It was stuffed with rice, beans, and avocado, but very little meat. Kinda felt like a veggie burrito. And was very bland. I don't think the burrito should depend on the salsa for its flavor. We have been here a bunch of times! Every time we are very satisfied with our meal. This week we had the nachos (added ground beef and black beans) and they were delicious. We were a little disappointed since the chips were burnt, but got over it - and that's not usually the case. Then we had the steak tacos. All the tacos come with cheese, onions, cilantro (ask without for you cilantro haters!), tomatoes and a radish. They are pretty good for being pretty "plain" and not like the specialty tacos at other places. So ask for some extra salsa or a side of avocados if you need to jazz it up a bit. What I really love about this place is it's great to bring our 2 year old daughter. It's loud, they have a kids menu, and she loves their food. We normally get her the kids quesadilla and add chicken. There are other great options as well for the kiddos! We will definitely be back! This is a great and fun place with delicious non-authentic Mexican food. Cafe Corazon is reliably fun and tasty and has great special offers each day of the week. I'm a personal fan of the taco truck plate but honestly have never had something that I didn't like. Great for a date night, weekday lunch, big group get-togethers (most recently we went for dinner with a group of 8) and their back patio is wonderful in the warm months! The decor and ambiance is great and their bar seating is separated from the "dining room" which I really like. I've called in orders to pick up and they are always ready in the time-frame I was given on the phone (usually ~15 minutes). Definitely a fan of Corazon! read more

I definitely like the BV outpost of Café Corazon and appreciate that they've taken the super-sketchy Club Carnival and made it into a great neighborhood spot. The space is much bigger than the original, so waits for tables should be less insane. First - margaritas are really, really good. They taste of fresh lime, are well balanced and pretty reasonably priced. Second - lots of options for folks who are vegetarian, vegan, or have other dietary restrictions. If you're a meat eater, there are tons of choices for you too. Third - friendly service. We never lacked for a refill, or waited too long for anything. I went with their taco truck plate and really liked it - the flavors are good, and the chicken wasn't greasy at all. I don't know that I'd be driving to BV to eat here but I'd absolutely come back if I were in the area. read more

Everything I love about the OG, now in BV! 1. The space is "yuge!" Upon entering you'll see the bar area and a handful of higher top tables. You check in w/ the host stand at the end of the bar, tucked back just aways. Once you do, you'll be seated in their very ample-sized dining room (unless you elect to sit at the bar, which I always do unless there's no room, which was the case on Friday night.) 2. Food: same menu as the OG RW Corazon as far as I can tell, which is a very, very good thing. Some of my favorites: BBQ chicken burrito, the ensalada Corazon and the tostadas. Brunch Sat/Sun 10am-2pm, too! 3. Drink offerings seem to be somewhat expanded, although I'm not totally for sure on that. Mexican beers, strong margs and a handful of other fun specialty drinks round out the offerings. 4. Décor: the opposite of the OG Corazon. OG is close-quarters and super-fun day of the dead/Roman Catholic/etc. art and accoutrement populate every nook and cranny. The BV Corazon is spread out both spatially and in terms of a decorative approach - large-scale Loteria art lines the walls accented by spotlights on blue walls, tin ceilings and old school light fixtures give a curated cool vibe to the dining room... it's all the fun and kitsch you love, but there's less of it in a bigger space. The wait is over! Now I never have to leave Bay View again. Strong showing for the first days open in the new location. Same menu as the old location, but lots more space. They did a great job renovating the horrible old scary clown bar space, keeping the charm and decor of the riverwest location. The large bar in the front room with some tables, lots of seating in the second room. Pass the bar to get to the hostess stand. (They may need to rethink this configuration as most people that came in didn't realize there was a whole other room.) Spacious bar (where we ate) with comfortable seats. Got in early for brunch and food came quickly. Mistake on my vegan order was fixed quickly (you may need to be extra clear on ordering vegan with some of the new staff that isn't used to vegan customers, but I'm sure they'll catch on. ) I got veganized chilaquiles, which are one of my all time faves-- delicious. Friend got the "jolly cakes," boozy amaretto pancakes (3 per order) that she loved. BF got the chorizo wet burrito, which totally lived up to the old standard. If you loved the old Corazon, you know what you're in for and you won't be disappointed. If you've never been-- 1) what is wrong with you?! 2) get here already!
