We checked this place out by chance as we are new in town and haven't nailed down our local honey holes. We had a party of 6 and everyone at the table was pleasantly surprised. This place makes food like it should be made. Everything we ordered was made from scratch. Absolutely amazing. As for a recommendation, take your pick. You can throw a dart at the menu and you won't be disappointed. While the food was great, it might have been beat out by the service, which is hard to do. Kind, courteous and attentive. The staff was incredible. I am a coffee drinker and when they knew it my cup was never empty. I has the 2 eggs , bacon, hashbrowns and my Choice of pancakes or toast for only 10.00 and it was all delicious. It was the first time there but the staff is so friendly I felt like an old time customer. I can't wait to go back. I am new to the Papillion area and wanted to explore diners close to my house. The reviews on Café Diem were good, so off I went. I was surprised to find it fairly busy at 10:30am on a Tuesday morning, but there were still quite a few open tables. I ordered the Fried Chuck Steak breakfast, I forgot to ask if it was breaded and fried as ordered of popped out of a freezer. I am particular about my chicken fried steak, but if this was popped out of a freezer, it was very good and fork tender. To sum it up, I will be back. It is a little nondescript, tucked into some retail space under an apartment complex, but the inside is nicely sized and the interior decorated nicely. read more

This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Nebraska! The menu is large and varied and the food is always off the charts excellent. I love to get a scramble (love the veggie one) with hash browns. It's a lot of food that I can never finish, but I keep trying. My best friend gets a half order of biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon and she can't finish her order either. I took my family here for father's day (there were 12 of us on a holiday) and we still had amazing service, hot, delicious food, and can't wait to go back. My kids love this place, my parents love it, my husband loves it, and so do I. If you are looking for great food, great prices, and off the charts service (ask for Gail), you are in for a treat here. A bunch of us from our Hot Rod Club stopped here today. I usually don't like eating with a big group at a long table because you can't talk to every body and servers are hard pressed. Nice time here, tho. First time here. Service was great and friendly. I ordered a scramble....3 eggs, cheese, hash browns and toast or 2 dollar pancakes (I tried the cakes). You add, for extra cost, your innards. I ordered onion and jalapeno. Fabulous. Hash browns were just like we like em, DONE. Crispy and delish. Sue ordered The Classic. Yeah, she likes to go off the rail. 2 eggs, hash browns, sausage, toast. Said it was really good too. A couple in our group ordered The Hungry Man...a loaded plate with, what looked like, every thing in the kitchen. They ate it all, too. Okay so my five stars really come from the service that I received at Cafe Diem. The waitress was extremely nice and made sure I had everything I needed. Not only that but the hostess was also extremely nice. The atmosphere is pretty relaxing for the most part. Also most tables are set for parties of 4 so im sure a group could eat here no problem. I think the trickiest thing about this place is trying to figure out how to get into the parking lot but they also have a drive through which is super convenient ! Start with the good. Service was great. Very friendly staff and very attentive. Clean and welcoming environment. Now for the bad... most of the food tasted premade and processed. Cinnamon rolls clearly frozen and baked in house, Gravy is certainly packaged. Not very many restaurants I have left food on the table without accepting to-go boxes, this was one of them. I felt stupid for spending 100$ hard earned dollars on the equivalent of hospital food. read more

Coffee was honestly weak, and came in a styrofoam cup. I don't like being negative but it was just too watered down, and something about hot coffee in a styrofoam cup just doesn't appeal. This place is awesome! Went here for breakfast. I ordered the chicken fried chicken poached eggs hash browns and a side of French Toast. My poached eggs were cooked perfectly which rarely happens when I order in a restaurant. The chicken friend chicken was hand breaded and the gravy was amazing. The place isn't modern or luxurious. It is a good, family-run cafe with great food and and great friendly service. When I substituted a side for one I thought I would like better, the owner told the server to bring my choice plus a sample of his, so I could see what I was missing! He came out to the dining room later and asked what I thought. I loved that he was proud of his food, and that he would come and ask my opinion. Good place for basic breakfast or lunch. It was my second time here (first time for breakfast) and hubby's fourth. Food is consistently good, service is excellent. I always get a classic breakfast to test the waters, and the eggs were perfect, sausage patties very tasty, and hash browns nice and crispy. The staff greets customers upon entering and check frequently to ensure everything is fine at the table. The food came out fast. I'm only giving three overall stars as it's not until you get your check that you see they charge extra for using a credit card. Ticket showed both credit total and cash total. Credit card fees are a business expense; why charge the customer more and have them pay for your business expense? That just isn't right. read more

My husband and I went in on a Saturday morning. The café was about half full. Everybody was eating or finished already. We sat for 10 minutes before anybody even acknowledged us and brought us coffee. We then waited for our breakfast, with some items that were cold, the hashbrowns were hot, the eggs were hot. The bacon was cold. The sourdough bread was not sourdough, but was simply white bread which was also cold. Several times while we were waiting to even be acknowledged, waitresses and bus help were visiting with one another, or with other customers. They glanced over at us. but nobody made a move to come help us. We will never go there again. My husband felt strongly that all of the people in there were regulars and had a friendly relationship with the staff. We were not regulars, and he feels that this is the reason we were basically ignored. read more
