I wanted to take My parents and family here for a lunch to celebrate their 50th year of marriage. I wanted everyone to be able to order their choice of food so we went to the regular dining room. We were seated behind the bar area which was like a separate space. Which was perfect. We had our privacy yet the staff was very attentive. Everyone really enjoyed their food and drink. To start, I am going to admit that it has been years, many years, since I have been to the Cafe Escadrille, but I had always remembered it as a very good, more upscale restaurant. My first reaction was how amazed at how large the building had become with the addition of a banquet facility. The parking lot for our 7PM Saturday night reservation was packed. How packed? After circling for a little while we parked in the overflow lot next door. My only issue with that is that they should spring for some stairs on the hillside in back of the restaurant to prevent needing to backtrack for an already long walk to the front entrance. We were greeted nicely by the hostesses who brought us to our table in a quieter room than being closer to the bar area exactly at our reservation time. It is really nice to see people out especially around the holidays and certainly enjoying themselves based on the decibel level. We were happy to be in a more secluded, and definitely more quiet and refined room for this particular evening. The staff was pleasant and helpful in describing some menu items as well as bringing drinks and our food. On this night, we went rather simple and light. She ordered the salmon, simply grilled and with a choice of starch or vegetable. She went with the rice pilaf which was good, but didn't look like a more traditional rice with a combo of lighter and darker grains. I went with the baked scrod which was a local haddock baked/broiled with a light cracker and butter and lemon topping. For a side I went the the green beans which were sautéed, but not in too much oil. Both we good size and well prepared and worth their mid $30 price tags. The ambiance was a solid 4 stars with nice infusion of holidays decorations, the staff was also 4 stars and the food 4 stars. The only negative 3 star would be the dinner role and cracker which looked and tasted like they were from my last visit to Cafe Escadrille. Overall, this place is a quality restaurant well deserving of this rating. I look forward to my next visit and may even try the sushi menu, I just hope it is not years before I find myself back there. read more

They dropped the ball tonight. Not a regular I guess, but we frequent here often to say the least. Sat at the bar as we usually do. Never told the specials even though both couples next to us were informed of them. Forgot my beer until walking by seeing the empty glass. Asked for bread like everyone else had. Had to ask another bartender since ours forgot we asked. Cashing out, took our check and card but processed someone else's ahead of us. And we had just purchased 10 gift cards a month ago. read more

For my 2nd place to try out during restaurant week, I chose Escadrille. This place looks homely and based on me being the only youngin, the clientele is mostly seniors. Although I feel like there was nothing to rave about on the Dine-Out menu, this place must be doing something right to last 45 years. App: Clam Chowder - meatier of the app options, but pretty basic. Entree: Tournedaise a la Bordelaise - I liked the first few bites, it was very tender and sweet. The mashed potatoes were a little hard for me. As for the spinach, I was too full from the steaks to finish. Dessert: Chocolate Brownie Sunday - best part! I was surprised at first because it was so small, but the walnuts added a nice kick to the brownie. I recommend Escadrille as a place you would bring your parents to. It looks fancy, but it's actually inexpensive for a nice day with the family. read more

Visited Cafe Escadrille yesterday for my birthday. We went at 3:30 so it was a late lunch. Let me just start by saying that our server was amazing. Very friendly and got us what we needed in a timely manner. Okay, now on to the bad. The food was terrible. I've been going here for years and this place has really gone very far downhill. I ordered the NY strip medium rare and it came well done and tasted like it wasn't seasoned. Very dry, overcooked, and bland. I'm on a special diet so I got the salad with blue cheese dressing and Brussel sprouts as my side. The salad was more blue cheese than there was lettuce. Very skimpy on the salad (lettuce is cheap). Now the Brussel sprouts, they were absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. They seemed to possibly be very old and reheated. The were so mushy, weird coloring inside, and they tasted terrible. I love Brussel sprouts and eat them often. I know they're not for everyone but these were very bad. I told our waitress and she offered me broccoli as a replacement. She agreed they were gross by the look on her face when I handed them back to her. When the broccoli came it was just steamed with raw garlic sprinkled on top. All you could taste was the raw garlic. Very bad and I still can't get rid of the taste. All they had to do was heat it in a little oil before topping it on the broccoli. My mother had the surf and turf shrimp/fillet and had to wipe the bread crumb topping off the shrimp because it tasted strange. My dad had a burger which was tasteless and looked like a frozen patty not made from fresh ground beef. Very sad that all the once reputable restaurants have all gone so far down hill. I doubt we will be back any time soon. Good service. Terrible food. Don't waste your time. read more

The Cafe Escadrille is a well established restaurant that has been in Burlington over 50 years. Their food is awesome. I have never had a bad meal. Their prices are very reasonable especially compared to other high end restaurants in Burlington. it is my go to place for a nice meal. read more

If you are looking for a restaurant that transports you back to a day before the expanse of higher end chain restaurants then this might be the place for you. There is certainly a variety of menu items and covers very traditional dishes. Have been to this restaurant on several occasions prior to COVID and the most recent visit during COVID restrictions. In the past had been a fan of the Gourmet Room for a higher end restaurant feel but that has since closed. Not a fan for their holiday buffets we have been to in the past. Ambiance: the restaurant is a comfortable feel and vibe however on this visit we were put into a function room for social distancing purposes. My issue with this is there were so many other open tables throughout the restaurant that we felt a little bit like the gay outcasts being put off in the far reaches across from the kitchen. The room was empty and cold. Service: our waitress was Patti and she was absolutely lovely. A true professional waitress and appreciated her attention to service. Was surprised she didn't ask if we wanted dessert or coffee at the end of the meal but maybe because I did not finish my meal she did not bother asking. Food: opted to upgrade to the caprese salad which had burratta instead of the traditional mozzarella slices and also a beet salad. These were instead of standard entree salads for a small upgrade charge. Both we a good size with fresh ingredients and nicely chilled. The beet salad was a bit overdressed to the extent that some of it became a bit inedible. The duck was a deboned half duck with traditional orange sauce. The duck was a large mass of skin and meat. Relatively tasty but not the best duck I have had. It was served with marinated pears which didn't really seem necessary. The baked stuff shrimp were a decent size and were tasty. There was a choice of side dishes. We opted for rice pilaf which was the typical box pilaf with diced carrots added. The sweet potato was well baked and served with butter. Drinks: a nice option are wine by the glass that normally would be bottle only but because they use a sealed dispensing system they offer by the glass. I had a Stags Leap Chardonnay which was enjoyable. Not necessarily a top place on my list to go but my husband wanted to go there so that was the selection for the evening. :) read more

Made reservations for Easter thru OpenTable. I called the restaurant to make sure it was a sit down dinner and was told it was with a limited menu. I then got a call confirming reservations for a buffet. I called and was told I reserved the buffet. The manager got on the phone and I told him I had two handicapped people in my party and the buffet wouldn't work. I could not make reservations any where else so we went. 4 of the party could not come due to illness. They added those 4 in the bill. The manager took that off but charged us $20 per person for a late fee. I will never go back. read more

Firstly it was excellent and speedy Service, Toni was a wonderful waitress, she reminds me of some you see in high end Boston restaurants. It's a beautiful place. As for the food the Lamb pops were delicious but the shrimp scampi was honestly disgusting, the shrimp was ok but the sauce was weirdly sour yet otherwise tasteless, very faint hints of garlic and cheese. The noodles were mushy, definitely well past overcooked. Even the toasted bread it came with was rubbery. While I would eat there again I would probably never order that dish ever again. read more

Service at Cafe Escadrille Is impeccable from the moment you walk into the restaurant. The atmosphere is outdated, but don't let that dissuade you from coming to this restaurant, if that doesn't bother you. I started the evening with. New England Clam Chowder. It was a perfect start to this cold night. The thick and creaming soup came almost immediately, along with a basket of assorted breads. I did not even touch my oyster crackers because the bread was so delicious. The soup was full of oysters and perfectly cut potatoes. Every single scoop had at least one oyster. The salad was second. Your typical house salad with champagne vinaigrette. It was over dressed, but still decent. The shrimp scampi was a let down. The shrimp was over cooked and rubbery. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the wine butter sauce needed more time to thicken. Lack of salt also took away flavors from the dish. read more

My family went there with a reservation. It was a memorial service lunch for about 15. We had a separate room with our own waitress. After dinner when having coffee and dessert, my sister asked for a second cup of coffee and was told it had already been taken out of the room. We still had 45 minutes left in the room. Why are they clearing stuff out? That's ludicrous that the coffee was not available to us for those who wanted more. Most places will ASK if you'd like a second cup. As for the food. The chicken marsala had no taste and the sauce seemed watered down. The ceasar salad was very good. The cheesecake was bland also, no taste. read more

Compared to other "upscale " Boston restaurants I would always choose Cafe Escadrille for food. I used to love this place. Not any more. Hubby had the chicken piccata: too much lemon, pasta a little over cooked. I went safe because my last two visits were not good. I had the smoked salmón and thr crab cakes. The salmón was ok. The crab cakes too. But nothing exceptional. My negroni was bitter w too much campar. Perhaps I will try once more because I love the ambiance but they seem to have changed the cook because the last three visits have been an invitation not too return. We used to go to Cafe Escadrille twice a week, now we haven't been back there, nor will we be going back anytime soon. It's time for a new chef or line cook, the food is no longer consistent and drinks are basic, never two are made the same. We never minded paying a little bit more for good food and properly made drinks (martini's) but, that hasn't happened since Covid, now they're just another restaurant, mediocre at best. Pre-Covid visit but just posting now. Bartender who is a regular staff member likes to get rude with you towards closing time. He hates people under the influence of alcohol. Lol. Hence, get a new job buddy! He's physically touched patrons glasses at last call while the glass is in their hand. He gives menacing rude comments and is aggressive. Quite frankly he's abusive towards anyone that is buzzed, which is pretty much everyone! He will let you order a drink and pay the huge cost as they're not cheap at this place but will sell it to you even though he knows he's closing up bar. So yes, he's a piece of crap. Manager doesn't reprimand behavior as a call was placed to restaurant after the abuse from this bartender w dark hair, shorter guy. He's there every weekend. This bartender even confronted an acquaintance and asked about said victim. Pretty threatening guy to ask about you personally as to deter you from ever going back. Service is excellent, drinks are wonderful and the sushi is fantastic. We've also done the fried clams which is a Friday special and the dish never disappoints. Went on Fathers Day seated upon arrival. Relaxing time enjoyed a nice glass of wine before ordering. I had swordfish and it was perfectly cooked. Went a few weeks ago for the first time with my two aunties for a late lunch/early dinner/catch up. One of my aunties has celiac so this is one of her favorite restaurants with a lot of gluten free options. Agree with previous posters it is very nice, old school ambience-suburban chic. My aunty made a reservation because it was a Friday and I guess they get busy but it was a sort of in between time so there was a decent amount of folks but not crowded and we were seated right away. All the staff were friendly and kind, especially the waitress who took all my aunty's questions about the gluten free options--it takes a while for her to decide and order. We shared a calamari appetizer that was very good. I got a monte cristo--sandwich, which was a different style than I've had before and very good challah bread. My aunty and I shared the flourless chocolate cake, my gluten free aunty had the sorbet of the day with lots of fresh raspberries both were delicious. Service was very good, the manger also stopped by to check on tables as well, and the ladies room very clean. The prices I think are moderate to high, if you are having an entree instead of sandwich or salad, it will be higher, but overall, I think they are consistent with greater Boston/suburbs pricing. To note, I do not live nearby but I think it is a very nice, solid place to go especially if you have someone with gluten sensitivity issues or celiac in your party. read more

My parents had lunch today at Cafe Escadrille, an annual tradition in celebration of their wedding anniversary with today marking 66 years. My sisters and I had their 50th anniversary party at this restaurant, which makes Cafe Escadrille a special place. Unfortunately, today's meal was a real disappointment. The salmon was overcooked & dry and the apple tart was inedible due to the undercooked apples and gummy pastry. Their server apologized, but she was clearly spread very thin... alone taking care of an extremely large party who were seated after my parents, causing their lunch to extend over 2 hours long. In spite of all that, Mom highly praised the server, "It wasn't her fault; she did her best with no help at all." It's just a shame that a couple in their 80s had a sub par experience on their cherished day. read more

The Café Escadrille has been around forever it seems, and I have been a regular patron for many years. The menu is diverse, ingredients fresh and always well prepared, and the environments comfortable while supporting an "upscale vibe." But tonight I realized the thing I love most is the outstanding quality of service one may generally expect to receive while there! Tonight we had the good fortune of meeting Brian, a 29 year old young man who greeted us with a bright smile and engaging personality. Yes, I did ask his age because his skill and style seemed well-beyond his youthful appearance (and he somehow delivered a text-book perfectly grilled medium rare fillet mignon to our table!). At every stage of the meal Brian added to the overall value of our dining experience with humor and grace. His knowledge of the menu was outstanding, and as I said before, he executed his duties as though he had been classically trained during the "Golden Age" of the Waldorf-Astoria. No food auctioneering or "Do you need any change or is this all set?" tonight! A true class act! Thank you Brian and Café Escadrille for a wonderful experience that will keep us coming back for more! read more

The ambiance wasn't very pleasant because our server would not stop talking to the table next to us during the entire time we sat down/ate and he was very loud. Came for a thanksgiving meal and informed in the reservation, at the host stand, and to the server that I had celiac disease and had to eat gluten free and was assured it would be no problem. I ordered the turkey dinner with no stuffing and gluten free gravy. Everything tasted great but there must have been some mix up on the gravy because my meal was definitely not gluten free. I've been having stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, which any celiac knows means severe gluten exposure and will last several days. read more

Unfortunately, the price paid is not worth it. The food quality is more diner style, but the price is a high end restaurant. For example, we ordered the artisanal and farmstead cheese plate - it was cheeses that were definitely not what you would expect given the name of the cheese plate and the price of $25 - it included cheddar, gouda, etc. (Think grocery store precut cheeses.) We also ordered the scallop appetizer special which was $37 and was disappointed by the quality and taste of the dish. We would have expected them to be seared but rather they were more of what you would expect to get at a fried seafood stand. We love to try new restaurants but will not be returning to this one. read more

This was a go-to local restaurant for my wife and I when we wanted to celebrate a special occasion. Not any more, though. The fried calamari appetizer and Veal Marsala main dish were so drenched in sauce it that I would have guessed the chef was new to cooking. The service was quite good, though, I admit to getting 'lulled' into ordering a portabello mushroom side instead of the vegetable of the day which came with the dinner. The portabello side confirmed my contention of the other dishes I described above as it seemed like it had been marinating for months and tasted too 'potent.' I'll likely never return. read more
