**Breakfast review** I came her after Easter Sunday Mass. Meyerland was pretty mucha Ghost town when we arrived and when we left. The breakfast is from 9am-11am. I ordered the Florentine Skillet. it had fresh Spinach, Egg whites, and chopped up thin sliced Chicken deli lunch meat, and sauteed diced white onion. then it had two slices of triangle toast. the Breakfast was really good. The menu for the breakfast is pretty long, they also have breakfast sandwich that looked really good. I'd go back to try it again. read more

If you're looking for decent food, for a decent price, you really can't go wrong with Cafe Express. This isn't the best food in the city, but they sure know how to make a burger that's worth coming back for and have a variety of other menu items that are sure to please. This particular location doesn't offer much in terms of variety compared to other locations but the outdoor patio can be a nice place to enjoy a meal. Granted, Houston's weather may prove otherwise. Service here is cafeteria style. Walk in, grab a menu or, if you prefer, linger at the counter and stare at the giant menu over the cash registers. The choice is yours.They offer salads, burgers, sandwiches, and a few special entrees. To the left of the cash registers is a bar with wines and whatever other alcohol they may have. I decided to relieve my hamburger craving and opted to go with the Danish bleu cheese & smokes bacon burger with a side of good ol' french (freedom) fries. It took about 10 minutes for the food to be ready which wasn't bad but it could take longer on their busier hours. A condiment bar is next to the counter that offers olives, pickles, sauerkraut, and a whole lot more. The burger itself was a little crispy around the edges but well seasoned. The fries were perfectly crispy but seemed to be prepackaged; not that that is necessarily a bad thing. For about $10, you get a pretty big burger and a side. A little on the high side but the burger is well made. Again, it isn't the best burger in town, but for a quick, unplanned dinner, it hit the spot. This particular location is okay and the service was okay, too. A nice place for a quick bite in the area. read more

I will say this--the food is really good here but it is a little pricey for a quick service place and I typically don't go here. With that said, I came here to dinner after I received an email for a buy-one-get-one deal. I ordered the grilled salmon and the rotisserie chicken and I think the bill came out to like $17, which was great for me. The cashier seemed to be a bit out of it when I ordered which made the ordering process a little labored. Once I ordered, it seemed to take forever for the food to be ready. Those of you who have read my reviews know that the quality and taste of the food outweighs any minor customer service issues. For a Thursday weeknight at 8PM, this place was pretty busy. I ordered a small caesar salad and fettucini alfredo (a little under $10), which wasn't too bad. The fettucini could've used more flavor though - cheese? parsley? basil? Because of the food, I cannot give this place four stars. Nothing on the menu reasonably priced jumped out and screamed, "Try me!" However, I do like the never-ending breadsticks, as well as the complimentary pickles, nuts, etc. With free wi-fi and a staff constantly wiping tables and cleaning the floors, I will probably return some day. read more

This place is getting four stars in my book more for convenience and great to-go options rather than amazing food. I love ordering online when I want to quickly pick something up and bring it home. I'm a very busy working professional so being able to pick up real food like healthy grilled chicken or pasta (and not just greesy burgers and fries) is really why I love this place so much. I typically get spanish chicken romesco, mashed potatoes,and sauteed mushrooms, with a pecan tart, and black currant iced tea (all for $10). I always add a few extras like roasted garlic from their specialty condiment bar. The food isn't mind blowing, but it will wake up your taste buds a bit (in a good way) as the flavors are always fresh and surprising. Very meh and blah. I came here for the second time today and left unimpressed. I ordered a BLT with a side of fruit and a drink. The BLT was nothing to write home about - loads of (read: WAY too much) bacon, one slightly wilty leaf of lettuce, two oddly stacked slices of tomato, and barely-there mayo between two slices of untoasted(!!!), grocery store quality bread. Usually BLTs have some redeeming factor about them, whether it be fantastic bacon, great bread, something. I suppose this sandwich was tasty enough, but I felt I could have done the same at home with Kraft mayo and my own wheat bread. The side of fruit was another story altogether. Fruit seems like something that's really hard to mess up, but the honeydew was too crunchy and not sweet, and the watermelon was mushy and cut into the tiniest pieces. My cousin got fettuccini alfredo, which she liked but we all felt that the portion size was NOT worth it. Pros: My friend's potato soup and garlic bread was great and the combos are a good deal. Nice environment, the restaurant is well decorated. Free condiment bar with olives, banana peppers, capers and the like. Free breadsticks. (more) Cons: $2.39 for a fountain drink?! It's refillable, but $2.39 seems like a rip-off. The table bussing system is a bit weird to me too. I'm not one to mind, but I'm sure many people don't appreciate a bus cart filled with dirty plates and leftover food rattling between tables, especially when the tables are so close together. Over the past 5 years I've been eating from this location I have observed the changes in their menu items and experienced a few nose-turning situations. Two instances in where I ordered my salad to-go, I found a dead fly in it the first time, and a chewed up piece of gum which was obviously intentionally put in there by kitchen staff the second time. Nothing can make your food experience worse than tasting mysterious bubble gum in your salad, not knowing where it is coming from until you find a chewed up piece of bubble gum at the very bottom. Manager did nothing but offer me half off of my next meal to comp my TWO previously ruined meals. When I am paying $12.50 for a salad, I expect it to be prepared in a clean environment with professional kitchen staff who do not spit gum into the food they are preparing. The past 3 years, this location has severely decreased their portion sizes, but had no issues with hiking up the prices of almost all of the menu items about $1-$2. The food can be tasty and staff is usually nice, but everything else factored in leaves it at a one star. read more

So I've been back to Cafe Express three times since my last posting. Two very good breakfasts and I just finished a great dinner sitting outside watching the rain but staying dry. I was in the Meyerland area with some colleagues and one of them recommended cafe express. I was hesitating honestly. I had never been to cafe express before and I didn't even know what to eat here. However, as soon as we entered The experience started to begin. The store manager (I think his name is Bulent) greeted us at the door, although it was pretty busy in there, he figured I was clueless on what to eat. He showed me the menu and recommended the avocado chicken Parmesan sandwich. Oh my gosh so darn delicious. From now on this is our new lunch spot. This place has seriously gone downhill. This was my third time in a row where the food that I have ordered is nowhere near as good as it used to be. The first time I thought that it may have been because the cook was just having an off day, but now I just think that they need a new cook. Simple dishes like a Bacon Burger or Chicken Alfredo, taste as though it was the cooks first time preparing it. I'm pretty sure it's not. Everyone in my party as well did not enjoy their food. After looking at the Cafe Express Meyer land location menu online I called in an order to go. One of the items I ordered was a cup of soup. Upon arrival to the Cafe Express Meyerland location and while paying for an order that totals almost $40, I noticed they have a display with a soup that was not on the online menu. I asked if I could swap out since I did not know they had the soup available. I was promptly told by, who turned out to be the manager, that I could not because the order was already put together and ready to go. I am not one who complains. In general I simply never go back! On my way out I did bring to his attention that there is an awful lot of competition in his industry. I'm guessing he isn't aware of this. I also shared my opinion that he had a bad attitude. There's an employee named Jose Lacal. Not sure what his position is because every time I visit I see him doing something different, extremely proactive and hardworking. He's the reason for the five star review. He always has great disposition to clean a table or open a door for the customers. The last time I went in with my 4 month old, he opened my door and got my food for me when it was ready. He understood how hard is too have a baby and car seat to carry. I didn't have to ask, he seems to always keep his eyes open for opportunities to stay active and productive and helpful to customers. I eat out often because of my work, he is a five star restaurant quality employee, I had to take a moment to share this. He deserves all the credit for his character. My husband and I have been eating at the Meyerland location since 2012. In the last couple of years, we have noticed a decline in the quality of their food. We haven't eaten at this Café Express in several months and tonight we decided to give it another try. unfortunately, it was a waste of our money. The food was not fresh, the lettuce was stale, and it didn't taste right so we made homemade sandwiches instead. Formerly loved going to any Café Express location, any time of day. Two to three times a week all over Houston. Now down to once every three weeks for our two groups; office and networking. New drink decisions? WHY?? None of my guests seem to like the new fountain drinks. A number of us just select water. Noticing some portion reductions. And what is with the new wheat bread? Meat patties seem smaller and toppings look smaller too. Thank goodness Café Express management has not changed or eliminated the sweet potato fries. Yesterday an unexpected girls lunch date took place at this location. Three of us choose the place because of the healthy food, the large dining space and location. I wish I could have given the rating a higher score. I ordered a half tuna sandwich and a potato soup. I spilt my meal with one of my friends I optioned for the tuna sandwich. I knew it was a half of sandwich and would not be a large portion but it was not even compared to a half portion. There was more bread than tuna. The tuna was so lighly spread on one side of the bread I ended up spooning the light bland tuna of the bread and leaving the bread behind I drank plently of fresh mint water with the zesty fresh orange rinds. I bought a mouth watering freshly baked chocolate chip square with pecans and coconut The location and customer service was fast and the cashier he was friendly and curtious. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE USING DOOR DASH: this is my story. After a long strenuous day of working and having to commute from Katy to Meyerland, I used Door Dash to place an order to be picked up on my way home. Expecting to enjoy my dinner to end my long day, I was instead met with a cancellation text as I pulled in to park. Going inside, I was sure the manager would have sympathy and understanding to remedy this misunderstanding. I was not contacted about this cancellation at all. Not once. Not twice. Not three times like the manager argued to me in a condescending tone. To her surprise, I assume, I was not wrong in "missing" their contact. They had in fact called three times....the wrong person, but I digress. Instead of at least comping me a meal that was worth the same price of my canceled order, I was given nothing but a nonchalant attempt of trying to blame me for "missing contact" that never happened. By the way, the cancellation of the meal was due to "being out of that meal" though the business is still open for another 3 hours at the time of my order. Door dash was no help either I might add, claiming that I placed the order too late when once again, 3 hours are still on the clock to make a dinner of roasted chicken and broccoli. Do not attempt to place an order for convenience here because you just might end up like me: a diabetic with no meal for the night, $15 drafted out of an account and not even a complimentary cup of water to appease my dissatisfaction. read more
